Tweet of the Day: "RIP Lorenzen Wright. I was blessed to know him." -- RealLamarOdom (Lakers forward Lamar Odom)

Reader Comment of the Day:"love our off-season so far. the Steve Blake signing was all i had asked for this season in addition to retaining Brown and Fisher. the Barnes move is ok considering the toughness he brings to the table. Farmar never fit the system anyway and should do pretty well in New Jersey i think. i would've liked to have gotten Bell as another defensive stopper but oh well. also i love the upside of our draft picks after watching summer league. Ebanks is an Ariza clone, which is great and Caracter is the hustler we so desperately need off the bench. i feel the Ratliff deal was fairly irrelevant but he can at least do what Mbenga did for us. i feel like we addressed our most glaring need, bench production and intensity. i mean i cringed every time the second unit went in because they would constantly blow double digit leads and Phil would always leave them in to "let them work it out" as he puts it. then Kobe has to come in and play hero for us to win. i feel like we have to still be the favorites either way you look it regardless of what everyone else is doing. Artest has a full year of the triangle under his belt, Odom has big games when we need them, and hopefully Bynum can stay healthy. the other guys go without saying." -- SoCoolCurt

Quality or quantity?

=================

Well obviously, this thread is all bout quantity!!

Wow.

Why are we so excited about 500 posts? Just because? That's a good enough reason for me. I have no problem looking into the face of time and history and screeming, "We were here!", like the builders of our most ancient civilizations.

Because we can, because we wanted to, because we're human, because we were here.

Wes

Looks like Mamba got the 500th!!!...Or was it Art? Either way, they both deserved it.

We did it, Laker Amigos. The record is OURS!

GOD@@#$$^^&&&* I don't know who the Frak won! It could be Joe, It could be Art, it could be Tom Daniels...It could be Me!!

That was some hard work. Let me say thank you to Corner J, Art- FL Laker and of course Mamba. Proud to help log in 500 post and counting. I almost gave up. Now i can go to bed and sleep soundly.

Let's Go Lakers!!!!!

I don't know who the Frak won! It could be Joe, It could be Art, it could be Tom Daniels...It could be Me!!

Let it be said,

that today,

we ALL won!!

mamba,

We won as a team, as it should be!!

600! Who's with me?

Wes

Are we trying to break a world record here as in number of posts for a single blog entry? Sorry to come late to the game, but better late than never.

I'm impartial about UPS Brown. I think he's a decent player - athletic but not great on defense, with the Eveready battery bunny hops but makes some boneheaded plays occassionally. Having never had a big payday (as compared to other similar level players), the offer from Knicks looks real good. He gets more minutes, bigger paycheck, and can develop his game further. He's already got 2 rings and as a young player, he should look at expanding his horizon and opportunities. I would understand if he picks Knicks.

I'll miss him a little, Shannon(the black dude with the Irish white chick name), but wish him well if he goes off to greener pastures.

And now, to sleep, perchance to dream...

of ...

#17, BABEEEE!!!

Ave atque vale...

I agree, we all won. Let MM take the time to count the post. He should be proud of what was accomplished today.

MM whats the next challenge?

600! Who's with me?

Wes

==========

Wes,

You really want to pour it on huh!

Like being up by 30 with 3 minutes left in the game and you put the starters back in!!

Crush them!

Now about Sasha (I'm trying to do my little part of adding to the 500 posts here), his shooting is God awful over the last two seasons, but he made those two BIG shots in game 7 and that dulls my annoyance. He's also a pesky defender even though he does stupid fouls (like foul someone 50 feet from the basket). I'd like to see him perform and do better in his contract year, so let's see Sasha's sequel, "Return of the Killer Machine".

LOL, I just thought of something.

Does MM have to read through all these to make sure there isn't bad stuff that needs to be deleted?

Good luck with that.

I love the Lakers DVD. It plays on the youtube loop, too, after you play the 1st part. I love the flute. That's epic.

Many bloggers on this site as well as other sites I won't mention, keep bringing up Terrell McIntyre...The sharp-shooting, penetrating Euro league guard thats kinda built like Fish -- he has been mentioned as though he is on the Lakers or w hatever..I don't recall ever having read that he's actually been offered a contract since its been written several times we only have 11 players under contract.

So can somebody clarify whats going on with this Terrell guy?? I saw his YouTube and thought his game was nice!!!

I would like Derek Fisher to dunk in ugly Lebron face when we face the Heat on christmass day...that would be hilarious...lol

on Christmas day...that would be even more hilarious. LMAO!!

Nice job on reaching the 500 plus posts everyone!

@JohnnyV I forgot allabout the Dune series! Replace number 5 on my list with DUNE. Stranger in a Strange land actually might not be all that great but it happened to be the first Scence Fiction book I ever read so I place it first.
And now that you mentioned Dune, I'm also reminded ofg the Dorsai sagas by Gordon Dickinson . I guess I'm going to have to have a top 10 list

wow wow wow. 551 comments. This is amazing! There will be a post edited and posted within the next hour. Like yesterday, that will serve as the only post for today unless of course there is breaking news.

I am going to be on vacation and completely removed from the blog starting tomorrow until and will return August 9. I'll take over for the blog again and keep it active until August 24th. After that, I'm going to take some more time off and hop back on Sept. 8. And then it's a full go. Lots of stuff to talk about for pre-season. OMGAWD that is bad @SS Lewsters! LOL.

I actually like the sayings in Dune very much. I still quote the book sometimes. "Beginnings are such tender times and must be treated accordingly". The philosophical/psychological captions all through the book were great.

There are many of them and I loved that in the book. Lots to love about it! My son is somewhat of a Sci Fi and movie fan (an aspiring director). When he speaks of Dune the movie I groan because I was so pissed. I thought they didn't do the book justice. It should have been a 4 hour movie and a blockbuster.

Good Morning NewMexicoLakerLifer...

I had an agent working with me from Las Cruces...

Everyone I have ever met from New Mexico...

LOVE their chilies...have great appetites and palates...high energy and love to PARTY...

Good morning,

"You know there were a couple of years there when I thought Kobe might be on roids or HGH.

Posted by: Troll Man | August 01, 2010 at 12:49 AM"

Back when Pippen was in Houston or somewhere, after his double triples with Jordan, they had worked out alot on weights together, their was another partner in their gym club, but Pippen was really buffed, I remember because Kobe knew about their routine and was pumping iron and putting on weight, I think he got as high as 230-235 lbs, then there came a point where he decided to drop the weight so he could be quicker. Maybe he did it earlier, dropping the weight, I,m sure, but I remember seeing him in Hawaii for their 2 preseason games, and open workout, rare) and he was down to around where he is now, about 205......that preseason I saw him was the first year of Kwame, Smush, and Kobe looked good, he looked like he was fresh out of high school. His wife was around, she needed alot of attention.

Mamba24, I'm just curious, is Justa your daugher? Hope I'm not being too personal, but sometimes I think so and some not. What a dreary day in Albq.!!!! First Go Vikes? I take that to mean you are certain Brett Favre is going to sign?
Second, ROTFLMAO! OH SWEET JESSUS! DAUGHTER? No, No, No! It's kind of an inside joke! See supposedly we ran away and virtually Eloped and got Virtually married. After that there has been one soap opera moment after the next, all my doing. After awhile the Virtual marriage thing as well as I started to become a pain to Justa so we had a Virtual divorce and now are Blogging Buddies again. The villian in this entire piece was I, yes I mamba24. Now NewMexicoLakerLifer aren't you glad you asked? ROTFLMAO!! OH SWEET JESUS! Justa is never going to speak to me again when she reads this. Much less give me my priize if I'm the 600th Blogger! And I wanted that prize DAMNIT!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!

Did you really mean to leave off Hank Aaron from your top baseball players list??

I think there are 50 posts per thread. You know what that means?

Posted by: Art - FL Laker Fan | August 01, 2010 at 09:26 AM

(1) These lists were my personal favorites not who or what I thought was the greatest of All Time. Ohterwise of course Hank AAron MJ, Wilt and a lot of others would have been on those various lists. Hank was a lil before my time but the fact he was as skinny as he was and hit all those homeruns puts him right at the top of the list.

(2) 50 posts per thread? Call me slow, call me stupid but...I don't for the life of me know what it means so... could you please help a brother out and tell me? LOL!

I pushed hard to get as many as possible yesterday, I got the 300th right at midnight PST., (honestly, I forgot we still had Sunday)

Mamba24, I agree with your picks, also can't leave out "Fahrenheit 451

It's not really sci-fi, but one of my top picks and authors is Thomas Pynchon
1-Gravity's Gainbow
2-V
3-Mason and Dixon
4- Crying of Lot 49

I'm trying to read alot of the old classics I only skimmed in school, such as Moby Dick, Canery Row, Grapes of Wrath, etc..... I can see why they are classics and will be immortal....the authors could write so descriptively.....

Don't forget the Governor...

Terminator
Predator
Total Recall

Mamba24 you are hard core. I overslept because I was up late. You guessed it, blogging and looking at possible trade scenarios if we lose SB

Magnificent job in reaching 500 and now going for 600.

I'm with you on this one. I refused to take a break from watching the movie. Watched it from beginning to end and slept all night.

"Why is AVATAR not on anyones list...

@ JohnnyV - I loved the book Dune and the original movie...Mamba24 and I had a good discussion on it before...

@ Fatty - Your sandbag defense is as impressive as the Laker's defense in the Finals...Still wondering why we don't have the rains here in Vegas...Lord knows we could use some, we are way below rainfall levels for the year...

@Mamba24 - your dedication is second to none...I think you should get the Phil Jackson Award....

Bottom line...GREAT TEAMWORK LAT Lakers Blog...

I see 700 right around the corner....

It would not be on my list because I have not seen it, will see it on dvd....I'm not the biggest James Cameron fan, he lost me early with "Terminator" and "The Abyss"(but I may rewatch this one, maybe there's a new cut out of it,.......my god, Cameron went to college at Cal State Fullerton, that's like 5 miles from my house, I drive by it every day.....I think Costner went there as well.

Lewstrs and Mamba24........OOPS...I think I may have started something with that JUSTA DAUGHTER thing. TOO funny! We do LOVE to party here, I mean, what else is there to do[write grafitti on walls, go to redneck parties,Isotopes baseball] now you know why I blog. Favre will be back... or maybe not.

Good Morning LakerJ! Count yourself in on that hardcore blogging sir. That was a magificent effort everyone put in. And the things revealed. WoW! LMAO!

Don't worry he'll be back. Surgery was successful. The Doc says when he heals he'll be better than he has been in years. Last year was an MVP performance with just one pass away from the SuperBowl. He just doesn't want to go to training camp. But NewMexicoLakerLifer I promise you baring injury the Vikings will win the Superbowl going away. I say this even though they are not my team.

Would you laugh if I said my favorite movie of all time is...

Forrest Gump...

That is so weird, because, I remember back in september of 81, I was going to school in Oregon, did not know anyone, so I read that book in 3 days....it was hot back then because a few years earlier there was the TV miniseries with someone, Richard Chamberlain, and the then super-hot Rachel Ward ("Against All Odds""....it passed the time then I acclimated.....as classes started.....

Shogun, Greatest book I ever read. Loved Tai Pan and Noble House as well. Whirlwind? Not so much.

M-24...

Forrest Gump was my favorite, not only because it was an awesome plot, great acting and directing...

But I can relate to the history timeline that unfolded in the story...I remembered exactly where I was when each event unfolded...

And the soundtrack was excellent...

Nice List. Chuck Foreman, another one of those under appreciated football players like Marcus Allen. Not only was he a great receiver but the boy could throw some vicious blocks. Kirby Puckett also under appreciated in baseball, it seemed like every year he hit at least .330 or more the guy was Great. Michael Coooooooper. I know, I know I'm going to get arguements but I say best defensive stopper ever. And he could dunk like Shannon Brown! Great List.

"Here's mine:
(1) Magic Johnson - Endless excitement, year after year
(2) Fernando Valenzuela (1979 thru 81 were so exciting!)
(3) Marcus Allen - Watched him at USC and then the Raiders
(4) Kirk Gibson-"The Home run."Stud all yr but that homer..
(5) John Elway - Absolute stud. I hated him, but admired him greatly. Vince Young should have become then next Elway but failed.
Posted by: JohnnyV | August 01, 2010 at 09:17 AM

Not bad JohnnyV, Not bad at all. A lot of people Forget how Great Marcus Allen was. If he was anywhere near the Goal line, that was money! And the guy could flat out run. Speed, Power he had it all.

Posted by: Mamba24 | August 01, 2010 at 09:25 AM"

I have a favorite athlete, that I'll throw out....Eric Dickerson when he was on the Rams....I had nothing to do one day, and so I went to go see the Ram's preseason game at the Big A, I know, they call it many other things now and between, but when I saw Dickerson, the size and speed and running style of this guy, I was in love, he showed greatness in his first rookie pre-season game. His career will never be put up there with the others, the 2 small guys, Emmit Smith and Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, and Jim Brown, but in my opinion, if I were going to run that system which John Robinson used at USC and then with the Rams, the perfect back was Dickerson, his acceleration through the hole, once he picked out the hole, through those outdated goggles back then (I guess Oakley did not exist back then) was amazing. As a Ram, he was rarely ever run down by a db or a safety, and being 6'4" and about 225 lbs, that says something. Even if he were run down by a gnatback, it would take more than one to bring him down.

I almost included Cooper in my list too. I LOVE me some Coop! We need to hang his jersey from the rafters.

"I'm sorry I ruined your Black Panther party..."

I'm not talking about Forrest Gump...

This is what Kobe will be saying to Wade-Bosh-James...LOL

If shannon plays with the knicks kobe will dunk on his face to show him why he is a former slam dunk champion...

Okay we are at 596! Who will be the lucky 600?!!!
