Tweet of the Day: "RIP Lorenzen Wright. I was blessed to know him." -- RealLamarOdom (Lakers forward Lamar Odom)

Reader Comment of the Day:"love our off-season so far. the Steve Blake signing was all i had asked for this season in addition to retaining Brown and Fisher. the Barnes move is ok considering the toughness he brings to the table. Farmar never fit the system anyway and should do pretty well in New Jersey i think. i would've liked to have gotten Bell as another defensive stopper but oh well. also i love the upside of our draft picks after watching summer league. Ebanks is an Ariza clone, which is great and Caracter is the hustler we so desperately need off the bench. i feel the Ratliff deal was fairly irrelevant but he can at least do what Mbenga did for us. i feel like we addressed our most glaring need, bench production and intensity. i mean i cringed every time the second unit went in because they would constantly blow double digit leads and Phil would always leave them in to "let them work it out" as he puts it. then Kobe has to come in and play hero for us to win. i feel like we have to still be the favorites either way you look it regardless of what everyone else is doing. Artest has a full year of the triangle under his belt, Odom has big games when we need them, and hopefully Bynum can stay healthy. the other guys go without saying." -- SoCoolCurt

Inception was outstanding even for a non Sci-Fi guy like me.

Feels like Game 7 after the last seconds ticked off. Total team effort.

I'm outta here to sip some champagne.

Thanks folks, one and all. Couldn't have achieved w/o you

Uh, some time away and then the blog hits 1000 comments? without me?
Being in a couch and reading the blog is more productive than go outside and take some air.
And this post must be renamed after "The inception".

And This folks is your number 1,000th post! Congrats Mr Nano!!!

Figures. Had to be the person who was gone the whole day. LOL

Kinda like Thrilla being right there at the end sticking back KB24's airball.

1,000...NO PROBLEM.

Gotta go guys...Nano, Justa, Sensei, DaveM, Johnny V, LakerJ and TroyB...hold it down. Laker for Life. 3peat on the way!

Yeah - I'm done too.

MM - I guess your wish is our command LOL!!

See y'all on a newer thread - but prolly not til tomorrow.....!

Uhhhh... I dunno if Mamba24 is gonna want to offer that virtual kiss to Mr Nano. Maybe we should just....move along folks.

-human/dickerson; 79-80 was before my time, I first remember Dickerson playing in maybe 83 or so, I remember him, Tony Dorsett and Walter Payton, and Payton just got more popular while Tony and Eric got hurt and had contract issues. But hey, Eric Dickerson held a lot of those records, and he and Earl Campbell (totally before my time) were the stats standard until Emmit Smith put a dent in some of them, and then Faulk and Tomlinson (and probably some new rules) rewrote them. But Dickerson still holds a few;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_records_(individual)

Also- I remember when Terrell Davis was going to shatter everything, him and his chop blocking line in Denver, until he completely fell apart. There were a lot of guys comparing him to Dickerson, I never was sure if there was any real similarity. I thought Dickerson was a lot tougher.

What is the record for most posts on a single thread?
I recall we went over 1000.... 2 or 3 years ago.

Did we get to 1000?

1016!!!!!
GOD BLESS THOSE KIDS!!!!

Classic. And so true.

Okay, we are at 1021 so far. I am TIRED, but this was alot of fun. I officially turn the batton over to the late night crew and retire for the night.

GREAT job everyone. I will check in again in the morning.

I officially turn the batton over to the late night crew and retire for the night.

Okay, fine. Baton is spelled with 1 "t". Sorry guys.

I am very curious if we can reach the 1100 plateau. See you guys in the morning.

I tried to do a favorite movies list on here once, it went to like 25 movies and I was still thinking of ones to add, I just had to stop somewhere. There are too many good movies out there, I can't really do a "Desert Island Top Five' or anything.

Best Albums (Cue Jack Black in 'High Fidelity' throwing a hissy fit)

1)Kind of Blue, Miles Davis. Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, some other guys...best jazz album ever.
2)Blood on the Tracks, Bob Dylan. I figure I have to pick one Dylan instead of five, or that would probably be the list, but I think Blood on the Tracks combined his classic sound, but at a very tightly constrained, sophisticated and well, more emotional. Really could go on and on on that one.
3)Are you experienced? Jimi Hendrix. Has the classic Jimi, "Purple Haze," the Woodstock National Anthem, and the greatest performance of the greatest song ever recorded, Jimi doing Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower.'
4) Paul Simon, "Negotiations and Love Songs." A cheat, because it's a greatest hits album, but it is crafted and put together quite well, it holds together better than any of the original albums the songs came from
5)The Beatles should be on this list, but they aren't. They will get over it. The fifth selection is the selection of the unknown song, the great inconstant, the one hit wonder of the moment. Obviously, the song "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung has to be one here somewhere.

I don't know phred -- you've got the right artists, wrong albums. For instance, Bobby Z. has to be Subterranean Homesick Blues, no? And you're right that Paul Simon shouldn't be a packaged set. So, what about Rhymin' Simon, which I always felt was way underrtated -- considering the range of styles, the arrangements, and lyrical power. Spot on with Miles, but my favorite (despite it perhaps not being his definitive/standard) is Porgy and Bess. Have to put the Beatles up there--and it would have to be Pepper (unless you take the best 12 cuts of the White Album or else the 2nd side of Abby Road).

Still, you got a great list there, even so.

LEW- I didn't have anybody on my list. I dislike Dances with Wolves. One, I hated the book. Two, Kevin Costner can't direct his way out of a paper bag. D, they filmed it right in Western South Dakota, and for a couple of years you couldn't take out your trash without tripping over a little plaque 'Some Damn Random Scene from "Dances with Wolves' was filmed here, and you should bow your head and genuflect to the movie that put South Dakota on the map. But frankly, I won't accept a movie as truly treating the subject of the Plains wars unless they actually can get around to making a movie with an actual, you know, Native American in the lead role, not some 'white man's burden' dinglewit.

I loved Costner in his baseball movies, don't get me wrong.

Ah -- my bad: "Bringing it all back home". I conflated the masterpiece with the oeuvre. I tend to do that occasionally when I get excited. Apologies.

Best Westerns

1)The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
2)Once Upon a Time in the West
3)Unforgiven
4)High Noon
5)The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

To be fair, "Stagecoach" was very influential, and I haven't seen 'Tombstone"

And I loved 'The Magnificent Seven' But I loved "The Seven Samurai" so much more, and when you subtract all the stuff that was so much better done in "Samurai" All you have left is Yul Brynner and Charles Bronson's accent, Horst Wilhem and Robert Vaughns hilariously odd casting, and James Coburn scowling at everybody. Oh, and Steve McQueen playing Steve McQueen, somehow moved to the old west.

Oh yeah, I really don't consider "The Wild Bunch" to be a true western. Or "El Mariachi and Desperado, which had some appeal. "The Treasure of Sierra Madre" wasn't included for technical reasons.

Bad Day at Black Rock? Does that qualify as a western? How about The Thing (V.2). That's a Cold War Western in Alien dress, right?

LRob- I will totally play you in Stratego. I think they need to have books dedicated to the strategy in that game, sort of like Chess.

Holy Cow- I am staying at my Aunt's place. She can't figure out the whole 'typing endlessly into the internet thing. I told her there were literally hundreds of people waiting breathlessly for my next words, and that we were involved in a great effort, an effort on behalf of humanity, and effort which will forever be spoken of whenever people speak of great efforts. Effort effort.

A challenge for the great wits of the blog, something different to keep us going when we reach past 1000.

Funniest thing you can say when you can only use three words.

Funniest with two words.

Funniest with one word.

I suggest "None more Black"

Then "Discount Vajazzling"

and "Spam!"

Oh sure, everybody leaves just before I begin posting. I guess I'm just superphlous to the whole effort, huh. Well, fine. I will just sit here, rambling endlessly to myself about my views on the Kama Sutra, the secret messages in Dylan albums, Kobe's real explanation behind his ill fated "white quaker hat" photo shoot, and Jeanie Buss's turn ons.

or; O'Reilly's Falafal Boutique.

I'm Cornholio!

O-Face.

phred,

>>> 1)Kind of Blue, Miles Davis. Miles, Coltrane, Bill Evans, some other guys...best jazz album ever.

I would say, it's the best album ever of any kind.

Close would be "A Love Supreme" by John Coltrane.

Best group ever: Depeche Mode.

Best male vocalist: Sinatra.

Best female vocalist: Ella

Depeche Mode are definitely good.

Darn it, I had another thought I wanted to post. Gone from my mind. Well, here's this.

Sex: Yes
Location: Oh, shut up.
Marital Status: Nope
How Long Laker fan: 27 years, give or take
Favorite Active Laker: Ron Artest
GLOAT: Magic
GOAT: Not going there
Laker Wish 2011 - The Remption and Comeback of Luke Walton!
Hobbies: Pasty construction, finishing other people's sentences, phrenology. Oh, and watching basketball games. Also see question #1

Wow over a 1000 posted already...

I would love Jerry Buss to build a statue of KOBE outside staples much more bigger than Magic...

My greatest lakers of all time is KOBE,my greatest player of all time is KOBE and he's not even retiring yet...

"I loved Costner in his baseball movies, don't get me wrong.
Posted by: phred | August 01, 2010 at 10:45 PM"

"Bull Durham", "For the Love of the Game", "The Upside of Anger" and of course "Field of Dreams".... Bull Durham is one of my fav of all time regardless of baseball, For the Love... was pretty good, about a guy on the downside of his career really trying to hang on....

The first Costner movie I ever saw was one of his first "American Flyer's", a movie about pro cycling, family love, ....it was a little low budget, but worth the watch. Always fun to watch in the summer around the time of the Tour de France......

For me "Depeche Mode" is no, due to something that happened at a DM concert at Staples, years ago...I destroyed all my DM cd's and deleted their songs from my iTunes library.

Starting a new day, had to see where this thread got to, +1000, holy moly.

People, people, I think a worm traversing the internet has somehow slipped into everyone and made you addicted to this thread.

2000?

Oh, more about Costner, "TinCup" was funny, Don Johnson was an underrated actor, I think he was just too damn good looking he thought, and the directors thought that would get him by, it didn't. I never saw the end to the Miami Vice TV series, maybe Netflix has it. Costner had that droll, methodical voice....in movies like "Robin Hood" he started with an accent, but it would fade after about 10 minutes, hey.....maybe intentionally.

From Majorca Island with love. Lakers will win NBA championship one, two, three years more.

Salud amigos !!

Laker Tom,

Saw the request. I have read through some of the old threads, obviously.
One thing that surprised me a little is, for the most part, how "on topic" the threads stay. There is some off beat stuff occasionally but mostly it stays pretty much on target. So, that being the case, most of it is pretty boring to go back and read now.

I try to speed through but almost fell asleep a few times, yawn. I will keep my eyes open when I get a chance to look back, but it's pretty time consuming so odds aren't good for that.

I think they blog, in general, is more interesting or fun now as it seems to veer off target more frequently and gets pretty funny. Or maybe it just seems more interesting now because it's talking about current stuff. That's probably it.

THE MAGNIFICENCE OF THIS (1000+) POST ACHIEVEMENT IS ONLY ECLISPED BY THE OUTSTANDING VIRTUE OF EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF THE LAKER NATION WHO CONTRIBUTED TO IT.....OUT FREAKIN STANDING LAKER NATION!!! CARRY ON!!

GOD*(&*&^%$$#$!! LETS GO FOR (2000) LAKER NATION!!!!!!!!

(1045) AND COUNTING CHARGE!!!!!!!

Good morning Lakers blogster......

Lakers blog family rockssss.......

(1047) INCEPTION: It is nothing more than just a man having an unrequited dream within a dream. Much as I have with Justa...Strike that Justa part. The secret to the whole film is the WIFE not the damn spinning TOP and whether it SPINS or STOPS. That is nothing more than FLIM FLAM nonsense intended to fake you out. The WIFE, it's the wife that is the key. I shall reveal no more so as not to ruin the viewing experience for those who have not seen it. But it makes no difference. Even if I explainded the entire movie once you are in there you will forget everything i posted. Shoot the movie even tries to perform an Inception on the audience. Don't worry I haven't ruined the experience, if anything I have enriched it by relating this to you. Never let these movies Freak with your mind. they are insidious that way. Just ask Neo. The MF is a computer program and does not even know it! ENOUGH!

LakersNation:

Well done. I felt asleep at 989 last night...lol!

My greatest losers list of all time are 1.Karl Malone 2.Charles Barkley 3 Reggie Miller 4 Allen Iverson 5 Patrick Ewing 6 Lebron James......

ROTFLMAO!! You got me bro! OK, my favorite, favorite female singer of all time is Minnie Ripperton. the woman had the greatest range of any female singer EVER! Mariah Carey although the source of jokes had a range very close to Minnie Ripperton. These 2 ladies are what you call real Singers. Whitney Houston had real range too before she started fraking around with Bobby Brown. then her range was about as long as her nose. The rest are very good singers also and very nice to look at! LMAO!

And we are proud to have you as part of this Laker Family Adrian!

Lets's see where shall we go to now. OK I'm thinking about remarrying my former wife. We already were married twice before so if I do this thing again I guess that will be a 3-Peat. I also have 3 daughters so I guess that's also a three peat. My Mom had 3 daughters and 3 sons so I guess she had a double 3 peat, she also was one of 3 sisters. So as you see this 3-peat ISH is very ingrained in my family.

Uhhhh... I dunno if Mamba24 is gonna want to offer that virtual kiss to Mr Nano. Maybe we should just....move along folks. Posted by: JohnnyV | August 01, 2010 at 10:21 PM

Okay, no one is saying it so I will put it out there. Justa mentioned that if one of the "Real" Lakers Girls makes the 1000th post, that they will need a worthy prize. I, Johnny V nominate Mamba24 "Blogger extraorinaire" as the only one among us as humble enough, noble enough and downright worthy of the virtual kiss to the lucky "Real" Laker girlfan. Good Morning Noah sir. How are you? Hope the camping trip went well. Yes I read Venus on the Half Shell but for the life of me I can't remember what it was about other than it was satirical Sci/Fi. Could you help a brother out and give a lil more details about it. By the way, FYI the secret to INCEPTION is the WIFE not the damn spinning TOP! Lol! Just thought I'd throw that in.

Thanks again and oh...The checks in the mail, LMAO!!

Mamba24

Just threw that out there.. was it in "Breakfast of Champions"? Kilgore Trout would only get his scifi published if it had lurid covers and pornographic photos inside.. anyway one of the fictional novels was Venus on the Half-Shell. Some guy then actually got Vonnegut's permission (reluctantly) to publish it. I have no recollection of its contents.. but actually have a copy somewhere..

Are you keeping this thread open all summer?

JohnnyV - we're all flawed, brother. All we can hope for in this life is to find someone who's blind in one eye and can't see out of the other LOL!!! Posted by: justanothermambafan | August 01, 2010 at 07:00 PM

Meaning you can post any ridiculous, outlandish thing you want and won't be hammered. It's also very theraputic. I, yes I have had 3 , yes 3 breakthrough moments while posting here! LMAO!!!

Good morning to you as well Mamba24! Thanks for the well wishes and yes, the rest was great.

As for yesterday, Justa appeared to need an answer to the request she made (maybe she was just joking?). My apologies to you sir... Her request sat there for what seemed (to me) an eternity and as we approached the 1,000 post mark, she still had no answer.

So, in my limited wisdom, I nominated you to be the prize giver. I apologize if it put you in an awkward position. I offered up the idea in the spirit of fun. Didn't mean to put you in a weird position. I chalk it up to one of those "It seemed like a good idea at the time" moments. LOL

GOD%%#$#^&**!!! OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!! CARRY ON!!

LOL Posted by: JohnnyV | August 02, 2010 at 08:49 AM

DAMNIT THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL!! As I said you are good people. Thank you and I guess you didn't realize I was just playing with you in the prior post. I really appreciate it! Thanks!

LMAO! Can you imagine the technical problems that it would casue? MM having to explain to his bosses why we aren't going to any of the new posts. MM's bosses trying to explain to the advertisers, "They're just going through a phase".

Groups can experience "Synch, Think" and can go in a direction no one could have imagined. As for me, I consider this thread an opportunity to post on things unrelated to Basketball.

Most of the time I am reading and trying to keep up with the great basketball minds here. THIS thread has simply been pure fun and frivolity.

(1094) SCOTTIE WE ARE NEARING THE (1100) BARRIER! WE NEED MORE POWER!!

I told you guys I was done with the virtual smooching - giving or receiving. Also - the prize should be blog t-shirts - don't you think?

LOL at keeping this thread going until MM gets back. However, in the interest of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, shouldn't we just let it go? Put it out of it's misery? Hell - put it out of OUR misery? It's gonna take WEEKS for peeps to catch up on here. Think of their EYES. Their SANITY. Their VODKA CONSUMPTION. I don't want to contribute to the delinquency that's sure to be a result of this mindless, aimless pursuit. There's not enough percoset in the entire USA to help with this one....

It may have been simply fun and frivolity for you Mr. but for me this thread has been very theraputic. I have had three, psychological breakthroughs thanks to this thread. Not to mention thanks to this thread the innermost secrets of myself are not printed in posterity for all to see. ROFLMAO!! Actualy yes it has been fun bro hasn't it. You can wake up in the middle of the night and know that your old dependable thread is there waiting for you to post. Why I say we never release this Thread!! Let's keep this thread going forever!!!! YESSSSS!! LMAO!!!

(1098) ONLY 2 MORE! COME ON PUSH, PUSH!

Kirk and Spock need to beam over to the nearest blog and see if they can bring back more resources to keep things at warp speed.

Ohhhhhh.... Uhhhh.. Then I nominate as the prize for reaching the 2000 post level... that all of the participants send Justa one of our T-Shirts. Not the ones we use for yard work or the honey-do list either. It has to be one that we like.
