Reader Comment of the Day: "I’m not sure I approve of how Kobe researches free agent talent. First Ron Artest and now Raja Bell, two guys that he has had altercations with in the past. Our rookies are looking and staying impressive in summer league. Caracter remains in the top spot on the rookie ladder ahead of Cousins, Wall and Ebanks, who is fourth on the list. Not bad at all for two second round picks with character issues, huh? Two more reasons to be excited about our Lakers now and in the future!

CONGRATS PHRED!!!

You busted through the "glass ceiling" on the Freidman-Fatty award!!!!

How can you not like a guy that had a song made in his honor.

The Raja flop!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BjhfwVY_p8

Many so called 3 point shooters have gone cold or lost their ability to hit from the outside when they've put that Lakers jersey on.

Fisher, Sasha, space cadet, Ron, Farmar, could Bell be the next.

*?

Phred did bring up a very interesting point and illustrated it nicely.

How do you get Kobe's respect? By playing him tough and dirty?

With Kobe, its all about playing your best and winning. And if that means having a player that wasn't hugged enough as a kid, then so be it.

Perhaps he feels the same way as a long-time wise commenter once mentioned on the blog.

"Hey, I don't care if we sign Charlie Manson, as long as he makes us a contender!" - Laker Tom

And Phred, before you let this award go too much to your head, remember....it was you, a fellow South Dakotian, that couldn't deliver Mike Miller from Mitchell, S.D to our Lakers.

Magi32 -

My wife said the same thing.

WTF? PHRED RCOD, WELL GOD$$^&*^%$#@!@ IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME!!! Phred Congrats & Kudos my Brother!!
.
Good Morning JustAnotherMambaFan. How are you and what camp are you in TMAC YES or TMAC NO? No presssure, just the fate of the civilized world depends on your 1 vote so take your time deciding. Oh but just to put the pressure on you...You have a BFF in each camp. Choose wisely dear. And you have to vote. Not voting is a "NO" vote. lol!
Mamba24/larry

I STILL DON'T LIKE RAJA BELL...I HATE RAJA BELL...I CAN'T STAND RAJA BELL....WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO AFTER RAJA BELL??? UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! CAN'T HE JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE? I THINK I HATE THE GUY AS MUCH AS I HATE THE CELTICS AND THAT WON'T CHANGE IF HE BECOMES A LAKER...I CAN'T DO IT, I JUST CAN'T.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

T-Mac?

If we can't get Bell, then give him a shot, but Bell first.

So, I guess that's a maybe.

Congratulations, phred. South Dakota now has almost as many ROTCD's as it does electoral votes.

Good morning Mamba, justa, Fatty, and the rest of the Lakers family!!! I'm really gonna need some counseling if Bell comes to the Lakers folks.

And you have to vote. Not voting is a "NO" vote. lol!
Mamba24/larry

I'd be happy to join a "Give the old guy a rigorous tryout to see if he can function before deciding bandwagon"

Uh, thanks guys, but I have won the COTD before. More than once, even. So far as the electoral vote thing, SD only has three. So far as Mike Miller goes, hey, if Mitch thinks we needed Blake more, that's good enough for me. I won't try to convince Miller to sign for way less than his value. He values my advice way too much for that. Well, that and the guy is from Mitchell.

I think FCM is picking a few more funny entries lately, you guys better be nice to me, or I'll actually start trying to win the dang thing.

Good morning Mamba, justa, Fatty, and the rest of the Lakers family!!! I'm really gonna need some counseling if Bell comes to the Lakers folks. Posted by: EastCoastJessie | July 14, 2010 at 09:37 AM
LOL! Take that back! You are a Princess yousend others to counseling but a Princess, never, never, NEVER takes counseling. Lol! So how are you on this wonderful EastCoastJessie?
Mamb24

For those not familiar with this incredibly gifted, high-tech machine. It gives you the probability of a Free Agent signing with the Lakers and analysis of all the rumors posted on the net.

Although it has a bad attitude, drinks, smokes, and occasionally cusses, I feel it is just as accurate as any source on the web.

God Fatty, Until I read the smoking thing, for a minute there I thought you where describing me.

I'd be happy to join a "Give the old guy a rigorous tryout to see if he can function before deciding bandwagon" Posted by: Noah | July 14, 2010 at 09:38 AM

LOL Mamba, I'm doing good Mamba, and you? I just can't fathom the idea of that man in a Laker uni...why are they doing this to me??? To me, that's like Ray Allen becoming a Laker...NOOOOOOOOOOOO please don't do it.

Yeah - no pressure - *cough cough* *choke*.....

Alright then - here's Justa's Decision....

*pause for commercial announcement*

I've decided to vote for

*we interrupt this important Decision for the following special announcement: All proceeds from Justa's Decision will be forwarded to Fatty's offshore account in the hopes of justa one day being awarded the Freidman-Fatty Award... or is it the Fatty-Freidman Award?... anyways... thank you for your kind attention and now back to Justa's Decision."

*ahem... cough.... clearing throat*

Thank you blog family for your rapt attention. I know you've all been waiting on pins and needles for me to give you my decision and now the time is finally at hand. My decision is

*one more commercial announcement in order to fleece as much money as we can out of the adoring public*

Alright - we're back. In light of the tremendous amount of pressure being exerted on me by Mamba24 to make this Decision. I've wrestled with it for months.. ummm no that's not right... DAYS. Yeah. I've wrestled with it for days now, and I've finally decided to take my talents to... wait... ummmm... that's not right... no - I've finally decided to vote NO to TMac.

Thank you everyone who's supported me in this momentous Decision. To all my family and friends out there who love me and want what's best for me, I please request that you now act as my bodyguards cuz I'm pretty sure Mamba24's gonna put on his thong and come after me now. And that is a pretty scary proposition - not to mention sight.

For all of you who are disappointed, hurt or otherwise pissed off about my decision, well I have 2 words to say to you: WHO GIVES A CRAP what you think. This was all about me.

Thank you very much.

Dexter Fishmore's article was a good read. The Cold War really is a good analogy for the Lakers-Heat rivalry. It's good vs. evil. Freedom vs. tyranny. Riley is a Stalinesque figure. And Kobe is our Ronald Reagan.

It's interesting that most assume the Heat will eventually dominate in a year or two. It's also interesting that the article suggests that we can reload in a couple of years with LO and Luke coming off the books. I guess that would mean not keeping Drew, since he, Kobe and Pau themselves put us over the cap?

Does Durant have an opt-out clause in his new deal with OKC? If so, that would be the best way to reload in a few years.

STILL DON'T LIKE RAJA BELL...I HATE RAJA BELL...I CAN'T STAND RAJA BELL....WHY DO WE HAVE TO GO AFTER RAJA BELL??? UGHHHHHHHHHHH!!! CAN'T HE JUST GO SOMEWHERE ELSE? I THINK I HATE THE GUY AS MUCH AS I HATE THE CELTICS AND THAT WON'T CHANGE IF HE BECOMES A LAKER...I CAN'T DO IT, I JUST CAN'T.

Cast one Yes vote for TMAC comming to The Lakers & I promise you'll be as good as new! Not saying you are bad, in fact I think you are...Fantastic!! lol!

Lol! Tell you what Art. If there is a tie you get to cast the deciding vote.
Mamba24

Watching Trevor work out tells me he has learned a great deal from Kobe's work ethic and what it takes to have longevity in this league. I wish Luke had that same mindset. Damn Mitch! We could have had Trevor and Ron, but your misguided sick alliance to the Lukester has created a one of the the most mind boggling 6yr 30 million dollar contracts since Jon Koncak signed with the Hawks! Now Trevor will continue to improve while Luke is moved to the front office with you! Talk about job security!

EastCoastJessie, don't worry. He'll probably grab the Heat's offer. I hear you. He's the kinda guy that will want to play w/ the 3 stooges instead of the Black Mamba.

Is Miller still available? Some sites are putting him in the Heat roster already...

LMAO Mamba...I just had to vent. The only way I give my vote to T-Mac which is basically picking the lesser or two evils is if RB stays away. I can deal with T-Mac coming off the bench for a few minutes or collecting a paycheck while in a suit at the end of the bench but I can't deal with RB in purple & gold...just can't do it babe!!

Repost:
I don't know about the last 2 prospects. The mention of Bell still leaves a sour taste in my mouth regarding the WWF style clothelines on Kobe. Tmac was still servicable a few years ago, now I'm not too sure. I just hope if signed he doesn't perform a " I hope to help the Lakers to Back to Back to... ouch, ouch my BACK..." and join Luke on the bench.
So I guess I'm the minority here, I don't want Bell here even if Kobe does, and Umm, not too sure about Tmac....

Agreed Magic Phil...I think he'd want to be Kobe's opponent on the Heat instead. I just can't let go of all the nastiness when he was a Sun.

Justa....

I'm sorry to inform you, but 'Fatty's Free Agent O-Meter' has frozen all my off-shore accounts until he gets more smokes and a better grade of Scotch.

He's feels insulted that I've been serving him Johnny Walker Red when he could have been drinking the Blue after reading a comment on the blog.

Whoever made that comment, "Thanks alot!" You just made my day more expensive!

Infamous El Guapo - Thankfully, there is only one 'Free Agent O-Meter'

Damn it! He pulled this same crap the last time I lit him up. He's impossible to live with...

DWade picking the Lakers to win the Championship next year............why you ask, cause it sure takes the HEAT off so called AMI-EGOS when they LOSE to the BEST team ever, closing in on 17 with the Celtic's and passing them in 2012!!!!!!!!

LMAO Fatty, he sure does. I just can't sleep with the enemy this time.

mamba24 we clal these banwagon hoppers HATERZZ!!!! lol

Wow Observer,

Stinky breath is one thing, but accusing someone of stinky breadth is quite another.

Raja Bell is a huge pick-up if the Lakers land him. Everybodies talking about Miami as the Lakers have added a 3pt threat to their roster with Steve Blake and may be adding more defence with Raja Bell.

raja ballz is no defense is a liability trust me... i bet the rookie Ebanks will be better than Raja as long as he learns how to shoot 3's, he'll play better defense than Raja and offense!!!

@justa - you crossed the lines ma'am... we will not tolarate Tmac haters in this blog!!! please take it in some other blog plz.

you went down couple of notches in my book :(
i cant wait for mamba24 to come after you!! ill be right behind him with a purple n gold G-string! woot lol

Is there any coincidence in the fact that the two players Kobe is wanting to go after (Mike Miller and Raja Bell) are both players he has had scuffles with in the past? I don't think those are necessarily the most useful guys available in free agency, so is it that these guys may be available at a cheap cost or is he just trying to prove that winning is so important to him that he'll team up with former enemies to get it done?

@ Bay to LA

will this work!? heres what MM wrote! lol

" Reader Comment of the Day: "I’m not sure I approve of how Kobe researches free agent talent. First Ron Artest and now Raja Bell, two guys that he has had altercations with in the past. --Mamba24: NO VOTE on TMac . . .

--EastCoastJessie: FORGIVE (see JAMF for personal advice)

--JUSTA: good vote

Hmmmm... this is interesting... Raja Bell and Ilgauskas have the same agent - Herb Rudoy. Methinks Bell would like to go to the Heat but since they're going to sign Miller and Z, they only have the veteran's minimum left for Bell. If my calculations are correct, the difference between what's left of the Lakers' MLE and the vet min is a little below half a mil, right? Well, just don't take too long to decide, Raja. I'm sure Mitch has a list of other free agents behind you.

@Magia 32:
"

Many so called 3 point shooters have gone cold or lost their ability to hit from the outside when they've put that Lakers jersey on.

Fisher, Sasha, space cadet, Ron, Farmar, could Bell be the next.
"

Look who you compared him to. Although you have a point, it's fair. But everybody except from Radmanovic, is either older or an inexperienced guy off the bench younger than 26. Ron Artest had become less of a 3pt shooting threat and never really was one. Raja Bell is a CAREER 40% 3pt threat when he used to shoot the open 3 with 11 points on the shot clock- when he used to play that run and gun type of offense. Ron Harper and Raja Bell have the same body build. But yet Ron Harper was never close to 40% even in 1996 when he had his best outside %. But he always was a high % shooter off the field. Even with the wrist injury he kept his stroke and 43~% FG in Golden State and Charlotte. That being said he has played 6 games in total since then and become a little bit more tentative in the ball handling end. Considering he still averaged +2 pts more than Shannon Brown but with 31 MPG, I don't know if its actually worth it. But considering he is a better grinding defender than Shannon on paper, he is still worth considering as a backup option to bolster the bench's D (the lakers never had great D off the bench and would often relinquish leads especially in the post season).

@ years out of the league basically which is enough to rehab a wrist injury- while a gamble it's a good one. So Kobe knows this, and he's willing to give him a break by pitching to him this reasoning: Play defense, hit the 3. Besides the pressure is on the Heat not the Lakers so how good he can get acclimated to the Triangle remains to be seen, but considering the competition in the West, and his years in the NBA, I don't doubt he has a high IQ to get acquainted with the triangle quickly.

Is Shane battier available on a sign and trade? Everybody remember how good he was defending Kob in the Houston series?

@"Is there any coincidence in the fact that the two players Kobe is wanting to go after (Mike Miller and Raja Bell) are both players he has had scuffles with in the past? I don't think those are necessarily the most useful guys available in free agency, so is it that these guys may be available at a cheap cost or is he just trying to prove that winning is so important to him that he'll team up with former enemies to get it done?"

Adults get into petty arguments. These guys could be had, and Kobe knows this. He had scuffles with Artest on the court, but off the court it never went far. People are looking way too much into this on the court stuff. What Kobe looks for in players is competitiveness. Maybe not the most useful but they have a nice repertoire of all-around skills which to Kob, is much better being a backup-starter etc, than just having a specialist. Its part of the reason the lakers chose Blake over Miller, combination of his lack of wanting to be here, and him wanting a larger paycheck. Other notable free agents would be Josh Howard for instance, who the Celtics and Bulls want. 'The Memphis Grizzlies have reached agreement with free-agent guard Tony Allen(notes) on a three-year, $10 million contract, a league source told Yahoo! Sports. ' As far as Kob eye-ing Miller he saw a great rebounding serviceable 3pt threat. I n Raja he sees a firey, mad-death-energy, gritty defender who is capable of putting up a shot in the playoffs, when it counts the most. You could say the same for posey, etc.

'Sources: Bell agrees to terms with Jazz' according to Marc Stein from ESPN. That opens the possibility for posey etc.

@phred,

That RCOTD was funny!
