MJ this year you must meet your mortality face on. This season Kobe Bean Bryant will have 6 Rings. This season Kobe Bean Bryant will have 2 3-Peats!. This season Kobe bryant will still have an 81 point game on his resume and you will not. This season you still will never have scored more points than an entire Team and Kobe Bean Bryant will have. This season the student...KOBE BEAN BRYANT, becomes the Master. Laker Nation give it up for the new GOAT, KOBE BEAN BRYANT!!!!!!

i owe u an apology for that link/ reference post i had the other day that opened the Pandora's Box and the Wrath of the Lakers Blog God. (between 2 football games in the morning and not enough coffee,my ADD acted up)
on a second thought: i'm not.
i really enjoyed how the old "decrepit" man put on again his "TUTU" and started to scream from the top of his lungs with his squeaky voice.
it reminded me how a few weeks ago he did the same gesture and threatened all of us that he is quitting the blog because of the "Reader Comment of the Day" is not awarded to him on a daily base.
and he came back "flaming" and asking for "RIGHTS" as a REAL Lakers Fan. (will mamba24 calling that Drama Punk or Drama …)

Htj- well, frankly, I was expecting someone else to point out that fines for overdue library books are usually paid to city or county treasuries, or just the library itself, and not the federal government. Obviously, I posted it anyway, because I was A) Trying to ‘exaggerate to make a point’ and 2)because that wasn’t the point of the post. The point of the post was that everybody was arguing with something they thought LTLF had said, not what he actually said. The fact that you are now actually arguing with something I said, instead of something he said, doesn’t exactly change that.
Here’s a statement you can actually argue with, if you want; ‘If Luke’s contract completely, entirely and mysteriously vanished into the Bermuda Triangle, it wouldn’t change what the Lakers could offer to free agents in the slightest.’
How’s that?
Actually, never mind. I’m sticking with my original point, that the whole argument is stupid. For the record, LTLF won a long time ago, and you guys are dragging it out by arguing about something else.
He says “statistically, Luke is a better rebounder than Artest’ and Y’all post something like ‘Why are you insisting that Luke is better than Artest? You are crazy and wrong!’
He wants to be right, you guys want him to be wrong, and he’s not playing along. He argues simple points that are basically impossible to refute. Pointless, perhaps, but that’s the game y’all are playing.

Latest news of Mike Miller and the Laker PG's
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/news/story?id=5347642
Still on a waiting game, a lot of teams inquired about Fisher and Brown, so chances are they will go for big bucks since they are no longer hungry for rings. If they use the MLE for Miller, how can they invite the other PG's with veteran minimum pay unless they go for trades.
Like what Ruud said, Lakers are forever bound by luxury taxes. They could minimize it but will never eliminate its existence.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | July 02, 2010 at 09:31 AM
miller would be a great addition.. another high bball IQ and nice triangle fit.. everything luke offers but with a killer J.
Posted by: yellofever | July 02, 2010 at 09:37 AM
"Luke is better rebounder than Artest"
That's a ridiculous statement. No sane NBA fan will agree with that opinion. However, being fair and square we will let it fly because no two heads are the same. If you want to test a statistical hypothesis, make a cursory survey at Nokia Live and ask every guy there whether Luke is better rebounder than Artest.

yellofever,
It is really pointless to compare anyone to Luke or else we'll be accused as a hater. It is obvious, they like him and therefore happy that he stays the same. I just leave Luke as an injured player and hoping he would recover and prove to us that we are all wrong. I would not compare him to Ariza, to Grant, to Artest, to Miller and in the future to Ebanks.....Luke is just plain Luke and he's no Walton either, the other Walton HOF'er will cringe in comparing his gifted abilities to this new version.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | July 02, 2010 at 09:46 AM
There is only one possible reaction to Phil recommitting:
WOO-HOO!
There is only one necessary thing to do next:
SIGN D-FISH!
There may not be a four peat because there may not even be a season in 2011-12, and it may well be time for the Zen Master and our point guard to move on anyhow. But THIS year? Phil +Kobe+D-Fish = THREEpeat baby, fo sho!

Phred,
Just when I though I was done with this Luke nonsense, you bring me back!
Since we are using analogies, here's one:
Let's pretend you make $1,000 a month. Rent is $500, car payments is $300, and utilities is $100, which leaves you with $100 every month to spend as you please. With that $100 budget, you buy a TV (without a warranty) on credit, paying $100 a month for SIX YEARS (not a wise decision by the way). After just two months, the bulb on your TV bursts, and the TV is now useless, leaving you with a $100 bill every month for something you can't even use. Other items that you could have bought with that $100 include a cell phone, stereo, etc., but unfortunately, you don't have the money to buy those items any more.
You are obviously upset that you are unable to buy what you want due to being over budget. Do you blame this unfortunate predicament on your $500 rent payments? Of course not. After all, you need a place to live. Do you blame it on your car payments? I doubt it. You need a car to commute to work and go out on dates. So where would you point the finger? I don't know about you, but I would blame the broken TV that's just sitting there being used as a huge and expensive paper weight. That TV is none other than Luke Walton.

MM,
I am honored and humbled that you have selected me for comment of the day. Thank you very much and keep up the great work.
Mike Miller would be a great addition, even more so than Korver, because at least Miller can defend a little better, can drive to the basket and is a better passer. He would be a great fit in the triangle and is deadly from the perimeter. already 10 years into his career, hopefully Miller sees this as his opportunity to win a ring.
What would be cool if if one or a couple of the Lakers big contracts(oft injured Luke and Andrew?) decided to restructure their contracts for a little less money so we can add a few more pieces, that would be great, but I don't see it happening. Go Lakers!!!

Actually there are many conflicting reports on the web today...
David Aldridge of NBA.com says
Lakers deny talk of deal with Miller
- The Lakers are shooting down reports that they offered Wizards free agent swingman Mike Miller a five-year, $30 million offer, telling at least one prominent agent that they have not given Miller an offer or a deadline to accept it. Los Angeles is looking for bench depth after guard Jordan Farmar opted out of his contract, and the 30-year-old Miller is one of the premier shooters available in free agency.
Reports Thursday said that the Lakers had told Miller he had until midnight Thursday evening to accept the offer, which would be slightly less than the expected mid-level exception for next season.

Nemaia -
".......hopefully Miller sees this as his opportunity to win a ring. "
I found this comment EXTREMELY offensive and rather short sighted. Especially coming from a RCOTD award winner.
It should be stated, "for his chance to win a boat load rings", not just one.
Have you lost faith in our Lakers dynasty already?
Now drop down and give us 20 push ups, say 10 'Hail Kobe's' and 10 'Our Father Phil's' prayers. Then all will be forgiven.

Good question.
Magic and Bird didn't like each other for a while, so would they play together?
Team chemistry.
I think they would have preferred to beat each other rather than play together.
Not sure about MJ.

Edwin Gueco,
>>>"Luke is better rebounder than Artest"
>>>
>>>That's a ridiculous statement. No sane NBA fan will agree with that opinion.
>>>However, being fair and square we will let it fly because no two heads are the
>>>same. If you want to test a statistical hypothesis, make a cursory survey at
>>>Nokia Live and ask every guy there whether Luke is better rebounder than Artest.
Awesome. Now we've got the discussion away from meta stuff and down to a specific measurable thing.
People's opinions of who is a better rebounder are irrelevant, mostly because they're biased by which player they like better, how many minutes each player plays, who they've seen play more, and many other factors.
But rebounding is something that is recorded in the statistics, and thus you can very objectively compare two players' rebounding prowess by how many rebounds they actually get. But clearly someone who plays twice as many minutes has many more opportunities to get rebounds, so to make a fair comparison, you can divide the number of rebounds they get by the total minutes they play.
That gives you a statistic of rebounds per minute. If you play this player this many minutes, you would expect them to get this many rebounds.
It's a mostly objective measure - it doesn't take into account personal bias for or against any of the players you're comparing, and it doesn't bias toward the player who played the most minutes.
In his career, Ron Artest has played 23,642 minutes and has gotten 3423 rebounds. That works out to 0.145 rebounds/minute. Or if you prefer, Ron Artest gets a rebound once every 6.9 minutes that he's on the floor.
In his career, Luke Walton has played 7980 minutes and he has gotten 1327 rebounds. That works out to 0.166 rebounds/minute. Or in other words, Luke gets a rebound once every 6.0 minutes that he's on the floor.
The only flaw with this statistic is that it doesn't take into account what other players were on the floor with each player when they were playing. If one player had Dennis Rodman as a teammate and the other was the best rebounder on his team, then that would certainly skew the stats. But even so, it's a more realistic measure than asking people's opinion.
Would you care to dispute their shooting percentages next?

@LakerTruth..
roflmao..great post great analogy of the great luke..
@ Edwin....
you tell am it's almost like your on a luke tirade but guess what I agree with ya, I figured out it was luke b4 you burst the bubble but who is the other waste of space..lol..
@Nemia...
great post also,it was slick how you spoke about luke and bynum restructuring their contracts, since most people seem to forget that bynum is oft injured too and is payed way more, and earkier in the season people were actually talking about Kobe taking a paycut...
So again peeps remember as far as luke goes sasha..and unfortunately Bynum ain't to far behind in terms of production, price, and injuries( is there another word for injuries..beginning with a p???)lol...........

What do you think about this? If Magic and Larry and Michael were in an opportunity to play together with a team, would they have? I think Magic would and probably Larry. Michael, I'm not so sure he would have? Thoughts? Posted by: D(erek)J(eter) | July 02, 2010 at 11:11 AM

Magic I'm sure would. Larry legend more than likely. Michael
only if he could be the Alpha Dog!

By the way, Edwin. If I want to counter some of the "teammates skews the stat" factor, here are Luke's and Ron's rebounding stats with the same teammates from last season:
Ron: 331 rebounds / 2605 minutes = .127 rebounds/minute
Luke: 38 rebounds / 272 minutes = .140 rebounds/minute.
So even last season, when Luke was injured and barely got to play, he rebounded at a higher rate than Artest.

>>>That's a ridiculous statement. No sane NBA fan will agree with that opinion.
And by the way, after whining about me calling people names, you just called me ridiculous and insane. Thanks for dropping to my level.
I know you are, but what am I!!!

Laker Truth,
>>>Let's pretend you make $1,000 a month.
One thing you left out of your model.
Now suppose that you can spend $1625 and probably still be profitable. (that's the difference between the 56 million salary cap and what the Lakers actually spent last year)
Then yes, that $100 still hurts, but not quite as much. In fact, the cost of the $357 house (Kobe), the $321 car (Pau) and the $223 other car (Bynum) pretty much ate up all of your $1000 income right from the start.

Edwin,
>>>and lastly from Hoopsworld, Tony Allen of the Celtics
Nice pickup. Hadn't seen that yet.
The irony is that Tony Allen is the anti-MikeMiller. All defense and no shooting.

>>>I saw in Hoopshype this morning that Houston is offering some sort of trade
>>>package that includes Trevor Ariva. Hmmmmmmmmm Posted by: JohnnyV

>>>Hmmmmmmm indeed! Mitch you diabolical genius you!
uhhh. If I'm not mistaken, the offer isn't to the Lakers.
They're offering Ariza, Battier, and s&t Scola to Toronto for Bosh.

Laker Truth,
I have been following the Luke debates with interest, here's another 2 cents.
Your analogy just doesn't work.
It should be:
Income - $1000
rent - 500
car pymt - 300
utilities - 100
new TV - 100
credit card bal 500 with a 100% tax penalty
total expense- 1500 (500 of that has a 100% tax penalty for going over your income limit)
Even if the place you bought the Luke the TV from said you didn't have to make any more payments,
so you could subtract the $100 TV expense from your monthly payments,
you would still be $400 over your spending limit.
And if you went out and bought other stuff like the cell phone, stereo, etc in spite of being over your spending limit, you would just be further over your spending limit and whatever you bought would incur the 100% tax penalty.
