Ron Artest unplugged at the NBA Finals

Could you ever imagine Ron Artest and Glen Davis (Big Baby) on the same team?

Yes, the Internet might simply explode.

For now, we'll have to settle with the Lakers' Artest and Big Baby of the Celtics in the same playoff series. A few days ago in L.A., Big Baby was wildly entertaining, talking about wearing earplugs on the bench and putting them in the wrong way at first. He was doing this to ease his post-concussion symptoms.

He joked about always being able to hear Coach Doc Rivers, no matter what.

Artest, meanwhile, has been raising his interviewing game to a new level during the NBA Finals. Mind you, the bar is set pretty darn high when it comes to Ron Ron.

Big Baby, who is 6 feet 9 and generously listed at 289 pounds, and Artest, a fan of Baby's, sounded as though he had a different number in mind when he was chatting with the media after practice Wednesday in Boston.

"He’s 300 pounds, maybe. He would argue that?" Artest said.

So Ron Ron modified his estimate, saying: "299."

OK, then ...

"295," Artest said. "He can move and he’s quick, and he can dunk."

The way Artest was thinking, Baby could be something of a sports renaissance man.

"He really should play football, and basketball," Artest said. "And box. And baseball. And I don’t know what else, rugby?

"And be a bouncer. And cook. ... He’d probably rather eat. He’s a great all-around athlete and, I guess, cook."

It eventually always does come back to food, doesn't it?

fellow bloggers...

still feel like i'm walkin on clouds.. what a gritty dramatic and hardfought win .. dont know if my heart can take any more of those.

-- mr derek fisher... i was one of ur harshest critics.. my sincerest apologies.. you keep defying all odds.. i dont often eat crow but thx to you i now remember what it tastes like again... you have just have earned yourself a 2 year regular season pardon from me free of any more bashing and criticism.

-- kobe... you didnt have a great shooting night but every one of ur FG were just poison tipped crowd silencing daggers... like every great champ some nights you just got grind through it and you were all over the floor and again shut down the much overhyped rondo.

-- gasol.. i didnt expect you to show up on the road but 2 more of those and you have permanently shed the soft label

-- bynum.. playin through pain.. a new found concept for you but master it and win back the hearts of all laker fans.

-- artest.. still believin in you... are you sure you are human?? your stout and bionic defensive performances are not going unnoticed here.. i still stand by my earlier remarks.. you are the difference maker! ur doin such a number on poor paula that he cant even score on luke anymore.

a great team overall effort... now lets win the next one and LOCK IT IN!!

Edwin:

You asked: Can he put up a thread to describe the Boston fans and the City.

Posted by: Edwin Gueco | June 09, 2010 at 01:34 PM

Response: Just in case you over looked LakerTom's lovely post and like I told you earlier, stop kissing Celtic's rear, they don't really like your kind in Boston.

Here is an excerpt from LakerTom to your query to MM:

So stop all the lovey-dovey fraternization and feigned fan commiseration. Neither the Celtics nor their rude and crude fans deserve anything but our disdain and disgust. Instead, try embracing the greatness of this Lakers team and our roster of great players. Try appreciating the inspiring effort by an injured Andrew Bynum, the consistent play of Pau Gasol in dominating KG, the shut-down defense Ron Artest dropped on Paul Pierce, the superb bounce-back game from Lamar Odom, the great clutch shooting of Derek Fisher, or the NBA Finals MVP performances of the incomparable Kobe Bryant. Because that’s what this team and players deserve.

ANYONE STILL THINKS THAT IT WAS A MISTAKE TO GET RON FOR ARIZA?

Beatings will continue until the morale improves.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HEART OF A CHAMPION !!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s one thing for opposing teams and their fans to fail to appreciate or respect the Lakers as defending champs but it has been very frustrating and exasperating to the purple and gold’s true believers to hear the rude catcalls and insults from Lakers fans aimed at Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, Ron Artest, Lamar Odom, and Derek Fisher. This team has proven over and over the last two years that they are more than just Kobe and a bunch of scrubs. You would hope that next year these same Lakers fans would treat this team and their players as champs.
~
Watching this series develop, which Lakers players would you be willing to trade for their Celtics counterparts? Would you trade burgeoning oft-injured beast Andrew Bynum for stalwart defensive center Kendrick Perkins? Would you trade the best power forward in the league in Pau Gasol for bald-headed has-been Kevin Garnett? How about former DPOY Ron Artest for an aging overrated Paul Pierce? Or how about Swiss Army knife 6th man elite Lamar Odom for an over-the-hill misfit of a player like Rasheed Wallace? Or would you trade Derek Fisher, the clutch hero of the last two NBA Finals, for a young Rajon Rondo who can’t even shoot free throws?
~
Personally, I would not trade any of the top 6 players on the Lakers for their Celtics counterpart, including the hugely overrated Rajon Rondo. Derek Fisher is in a class by himself as a point guard. Like Kobe so aptly put it, Derek is truly the heart and soul of this Lakers team. His impact transcends the box score. He does the small things and dirty work that usually go unnoticed or unappreciated – fighting through a screen, taking a charge, forcing a turnover, and making clutch shots. His ability to focus and perform in the clutch is second only to Kobe himself. And his inspiring leadership gives the Lakers team a future NBA head coach on the floor.
~
Almost as annoying as Lakers fans disrespecting their own players are the undeserved praise and respect that many Lakers fans are heaping on this version of the Boston Celtics. Frankly, this Celtics team is a weak shadow of the great Celtics teams of the Russel and Bird eras. The only thing this team has in common is the constant cheating and thuggery and espousal of cheap shots , bent rules, and other forms of dishonesty and trickery. That their fans are also the most clueless and classless fans in the NBA is to be expected. What other franchise would find pleasure in having their fans insult Lamar Odom by targeting his wife with “ugly sister” chants?
~
So stop all the lovey-dovey fraternization and feigned fan commiseration. Neither the Celtics nor their rude and crude fans deserve anything but our disdain and disgust. Instead, try embracing the greatness of this Lakers team and our roster of great players. Try appreciating the inspiring effort by an injured Andrew Bynum, the consistent play of Pau Gasol in dominating KG, the shut-down defense Ron Artest dropped on Paul Pierce, the superb bounce-back game from Lamar Odom, the great clutch shooting of Derek Fisher, or the NBA Finals MVP performances of the incomparable Kobe Bryant. Laker Tom...
That last paragraph is dripping with venom, my friend. You want to win badly, don't you? Well, so do I!!! Very eloquent post.
"Imma Be Me"
JUSTA- Trolls seem to be in hiding. Captain Smack, or whatever his name was, abandoned ship.
Love Ron's defense but a few more points wouldn't hurt, Ronny. We all know that Ron is the most interesting man in the world. But stayed focused, Ron. Stay thirsty. Don't let the surrounding media hype distract you.
yello -
"ur doin such a number on poor paula that he cant even score on luke anymore"
ROTFLMAO!! I almost spewed my mouthful of water all over my keyboard on that one!!!
Did you folks notice Ron making the Sign of the Cross during the performance of the National Anthem? Ron attended Catholic schools for high school (La Salle Academy) and college (St. John's University).
(01) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - OWNER - I'm so very happy for RonRon. He's sacrificed so much this year that people don't even recognize him anymore. Well after tonight they won't forget him. An unbelievable Laker moment for a great Laker. Kudos, Ron. You've just been to your coming of age party. I can't believe that ending. REDEMPTION is sweet. I love me some RonRon
(02) FATTY - ALT/DRIVER - "Pinch me justanothermambafan. I think I'm dreaming!"
(03) APPOLO C. VERMONT – DRIVER - That's Ron Artest, that's why he is a great player and one of a kind.....kudos to Sasha I am happy to see him play again, I think somehow he disrupted the flow of the game with regards to Suns 2nd unit..LAKERS IN 6...
(04) # 4
(05) HALOS ANT - RIDING SHOTGUN - Well RON RON, you DID IT!!! Today WE LOVE YOU FOR SURE!!!
(06) MAMBA24 – Ron Ron go on with your Bad Self!!
(07) XYZ - REFEREE - i think we were all watching the same game last nite, right??....ron ron's basket was not luck, it was a smart basketball play....he knew the shot was going to be short, so he positioned himself to retrieve the ball and shoot it....that is what is known as a good basketball play.....jrich's 3-pt shot from straight ahead but so off that it hits the backboard and drops in....now THAT IS LUCK!!!......please know the difference......
(08) PEACE - Now you all know why I've called Ron "Our Test" the whole season. He tested both our patience and our tickers last night. But we (and he) passed the test. Now we must wait for the next one.
(09) LAKER-LASS - RonRon has worked hard all year to be a true teammate to this squad and he came through for them last night. And they let him know they love him too. That was a pure moment. What was it Rudy T once said? "Never underestimate the heart of a champion." You go RonRon.
(10) ART-FL LAKERS FAN - Great to be able to see Ron and the team celebrate Rons good fortune
(11) WINTON DUPRE - That last play will go down as yet another amazing moment in Laker history. I was so happy for Ron!
(12) NEMAIA FALETOGO - As for Ron, he's an outstanding physical, strong, in your face defender capable of shutting down or containing the opposing team's premier perimeter scorer. To his credit, Ron never stops playing hard and is always relentless which makes up for some of his make you shake your head, what did you just do plays. Ron will show why as we move closer and closer why we took a chance on him and why he's worth it. He did last night
(13) NOAH - I think Ron got what he really needed. Ron got him some big love.
(14) LADYJEM24 - Ron Artest, all the Laker fans are so happy for you, NY is so happy and proud of you. If you couldve seen the NY laker fans gathered last night at some local bar, you wouldve shed a tear! Well of course we cursed at you for missing two crucial shots in a row. But redemption is sweet!
(15) FAN OF THE MAMBA - put me on the Ron Ron thank you bandwagon and the Sasha bandwagon.
(16) D(EREK) J(ETER) - place me on the Ron Ron Bandwagon, please. If there are no seats open, I will stand proudly!
(17) CJ GO LAKERS - And to RonRon, you have found a place in Laker History! And to quote D Fish quoting Phil Jackson. "You don't have to chase the moment, Play right, and the moment will find you."
(18) ZAIRAAMATERASU And of course, I wanna be put in the Ron Ron bandwagon. The Curious Case of Ron Artest is dear to my heart, actually. He's such a peculiar human being, so far, far away from anything you'd think would work in a team organization as refined as Lakers' and yet, like yesterday, he's capable of inflaming the hearts of the whole Staples like a lively fire that reaches mountain of papers. You know why Kobe hugged him so? Sure, because of the win. But I strongly believe also because, in his surely chaotic, often hard to get way, Kobe feels Ron wants to win in his same way. And Kobe loves warriors. He wants warriors. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY RON. I'm happy that you can now feel more entitled to feel pride in your purple and gold sweater. Keep working hard. I love to see what your determination can do.
(19) LAKERTRUTH - When Ron ran to hug Kobe, it reminded me of Vlade running to Magic. The embrace reminded me of Magic hugging Kareem as a rookie. When the entire team assembled around Ron, it reminded me of everyone mobbing Horry. There was just so much raw emotion, innocence, joy and love in that huddle. I feel so fortunate to have witnessed it, to have felt it. Ron's game winner might not have been the greatest shot in Laker history, but that celebration was as good as it gets. I love this TEAM.
(20) YELLOW FEVER - i'm watchin the replay over and over and over again... just brought tears to my eyes... i'm so frikkkkin happy for ron ron... this will go down as one of the greatest laker moments..common lakertom.. join the celebration.. i'm not big on mushy moments.. must be the alcohol talkin but here goes.. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! ALL YOU GUYS! THX FOR EVERYTHING MM.
(21) MAGIC PHIL - Put me in the RON RON THE ENTIRE LAKER NATION SAYS THANK YOU – BANDWAGON Ron, welcome to the Los Angeles LAKERS!!!
(22) BRONXLAKERFAN - One lucky shot (from JRich) deserves another (from Ron Ron). But luck is the residue of design. Just like Fish executed that .4 shot to perfection, Ron tracked Kobe's miss and gained position to be in the right place at the right time. Ron seized the moment. Ron Man saved the day!!!
(23) SAMLL - This time RonRon saved the day.
(24) MR. NANO – Who's missing Ariza now????
Just caught the thread about Doc's whining about the officiating. Probably just means he's taking a lot of heat for being down 2-1 in the series or deflecting negative attention to his players. When you have no answers, just blame someone else.
Benjamin Franklin once said, "He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else."
Doc should make sure the postage meter is ready to go for the tapes he'll send to the league office after Game 4.
Calli P! Mamba24, Vman, Manong Edwin Gueco, Justanothabrothafromanothamamba, (Faith and Rick Friedman on Facebook)
Thank you. That's love...
Add me to that ron ron bandwagon please.
When I first heard we were getting artest I thought "nooooooo, that guy's a head case he'll screw up our chemistry". Well I'm happy to say this is the best dish crow I've ever had!
Thought you all might like a chuckle since the trolls haven't shown face today. Check out their posts from the past couple days;
One reality is hard to overlook here: Pierce, Allen and Rondo bring more to the court than bryant, fischer, and artest. BOS is one team that can negate LA's perimeter playas.
The followers of the lakers are a few whiners. They are afraid to lose. They are idolaters of Kobe. They lack objectivity and courage is what defines them.
What a pity that some memos PauGasol game like you!
Perkins get a T.. only puts big baby and wallace .. into spotlight.. i wanna see dat.. twinky eatin monsta.. angry wallace .. backs to da wall..
LOL .. i think Gasoft might be betta den Kobe.. forget about Pierce .. he is on the other team.. i know y odom is always tankin .. he prolly thinks he is better also.. maybe he is.. maybe he is gloating all this time..
Posted by: CeltsInFive | June 08, 2010 at 11:12 AM
Boston very decisively clinched it at the Garden against LA in 2008.
In 2008 and 2010 Boston has closed 6 of 7 playoffs series at home. (They ended Detroit’s run away in 08.)
When Paul Pierce says he’s not going back, I believe him.
Posted by: flot | June 08, 2010 at 11:53 AM
Stick a fork in the lakers, they are already done. GO BOSTON !!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and quit blaming the refs for your poor performances. Whiners !!!
Posted by: Tom | June 08, 2010 at 03:23 PM
You better hope the Lakers don't score 93 points as the Celtics are undeafeated this postseason when holding the competition to 95 points or lower. The Lakers are NOT a strong road team as they were only 23-18 on the road in the regular season. In the postseason they are only 4-4. If anyone thinks a .500 road team is going to sweep the Celts in Boston they are delusional.
In 54 possessions by Kobe against Tony Allen and Rondo, Kobe has only scored FOUR points, they totally shut him down.
I am sure the Celts are concerned about how well Bynum and Gasol have done and they will be all over them in this game. Expect big games from Glen Davis and Rasheed. And maybe we will finally see if KG is ok. If he is not a big factor in this game then I would agree he must not be right.
Posted by: kevin tully | June 08, 2010 at 02:31 PM
The LA whiners are not going to win the series. It's not your time, season or championship. Your team if you want to call it a team bashes one another, the no class fans whine about officiating constantly and the throw the players under the bus if they do not perform well. Can't wait to see the thrashing the celtics put on you tonight.
Posted by: Tom | June 08, 2010 at 03:16 PM
I especially love the parts about whining fans and the refs. What goes around, comes around!
LAKER LARRY!!!!!
LOVE IT. I would have done it myself if I hadn't been so bogged down at work lately.
The trolls need their comeuppance, even the ones who are too cowardly to come back to the blog and admit they were wrong.
Count your blessings!
BACK to BACK to BACK !!! NBA FINALS !!! YEAH!
We Lakers fans are the greatest and we deserve every trip to the NBA FINALS! YEAH!
This is going to go down to the wire and I hope that Bynum's knee holds up long enough to get the two more wins we'll be needing to take the ring. But I have a feeling it's going to take four games to get this thisng sewen up, especially with the refs seemingly set on giving the game to whichever team just lost. In my eyes the refs absolutely intended to give the Lakers that game last night to make up for taking Kobe out of game 2. Every time the Celtics made a run there was a really bad foul called.
I'm hoping that the refs let this thing play naturally now that there are 2 games left on each team's home floor. We'll see. I have a real feeling there will be fantom cals on the Lakers all game tomorrow, b ut maybe I'm wrong.
Wes
Ron Ron is doing what we got him for, doing what Ariza couldn't do or Kobe for that matter. He's guarding the bigger 3's in the league, not to mention shutting down J. Richardson which went un-noticed.
He would have done the same to Carmelo or LeBronz had he gotten the chance. Ron needs to just move the ball and never shoot unless he is absolutely wide open, stick to what he does best-- shut down defense.
We don't need his offense, Fish will pick that up!
Oh, by the way, before I forget, I would like to thank Ron-Ron for giving Ray-Ray the painful 'Charlie Horse' early in the first quarter. Because of the hard screen from Ron-Ron, Ray-Ray wasn't able to recover and seemed shaken up the whole night. He was found down on the floor, in fetal position, and in excruciating pain.
Again, a big Thank You to you, Ron-Ron!!! And please, don't be too shabby, give some more pain as much as you want. Give some to Paula also. Sky is the limit! It's free for all! It's open season, baby!
Captain Jack (the Celtic one) has been noticeably M.I.A. after each Laker win. I'd put out an APB, but the last time I did so, my salvation nearly got revoked by the other Captain Jack (the Laker one). So, unlike Paula Ironside, I'll just shut up.
Kobe Bryant in Jan 2008, said with BYNUM we are a championship team!
Andrew Bynum 2008 injured did not play - NBA FINALS = LOSS
Andrew Bynum 2009 comingback early from injury played limited minutes with no confidence just his big body on Howard - NBA FINALS = WIN
Andrew Bynum 2010 - playing with one leg and determination -NBA FINALS = ????
Andrew Bynum 2011 playing healthy - NBA FINALS = ?????
I hope this Celtcs team can make it to the Finals every year so LAKERS CAN BEAT THEM every time.
I never thought that i will say this, but for some stretches the Lakers looked better with Luke than with Ron... But in the end we were better with Ron.
Finally i found Luke useful for something.
50% ready!!
Lakers in 6
GO LAKERS!!!
dont forget to text if you need me.
That game was beyond expectations -- I really didn't believe they could pull it off. But, I should have learned by now. The Laker leadership: KB, Fish, PJ have been through and have seen anything and everything playoff related:
Winning game 7 at home -- Portland
Winning game 7 on the ROAD -- Sac
Cinching championship on the road -- 3 times
Clinching championship at home -- 1 time
Sweeping teams -- too many to count
Being pushed to 6 games -- too many to count
Back door sweeping -- 2001
Being back door swept -- 2004
Being untouchable in the playoffs - 2001
Having trouble and still winning it all -- 2002
Game winning shots in the playoffs - 2002, 2004
Game losing shots in the playoffs -- 2003; and yes
Losing by 40 in the finals.
No team can boast that kind of experience and resume from their leadership -- and they unpacked it all for Game 3. If the Celtics want to know why they lost Game 3, on their home floor, being so close, if they want to know why the Lakers will take it -- it's not Xs and Os, it's not Fish got hot, It's not Gasol is playing better -- See above -- that's something the Celtics can't stratagize around or compensate for.
Artesticles is so funny-love listening to him talk. If he can keep shutting down PP and can score a few more points, I will finally forgive the Lakers for not being more patient with Ariza.
HA! Nice post Laker Larry. I think some of the trolls like "131-92" can sense their impending doom and won't even make the ridiculous comments we are used to them making.
Im kinda starting to believe PP as well.
How pathetic is it that they even try to make fun of our colors, but dont know that its Purple and GOLD (not yellow, genius). So uh puke green is better?
Bringing up Kobe's legal troubles?
Ugly sister?
Typical trolls. That's where the term troll comes from correct? Dirty little leprechauns talking nonsense, no?
Can any of our statistics guys came up with the proportion of bad calls against each team?
I think the Lakers had 2.5 bad calls to each one of the ceptics... and still won. That's remarcable.
Can anyone count those bad calls (fouls, fouls not called, wrong posessions...)?
Thank you!
You know I think this needs to be said, in the 2nd half last night I was screaming at the tv for the lakers to move on offense. Too many times Kobe had the ball and everyone else just stood there. It was like Kobe was begging his teammates to move, in fact on one play in particular Kobe was trapped with the ball and looking side to side for someone to pass to. When no one came to get the ball he was forced to jack up an offbalance turnaround that missed. Then in the 4th when DFish decided to man up and take over you could see the look of glee on kobe's face. It was like he was thinking finally one of my teammates decided to play some offense. For this game at least, kobe's poor shooting percentage can be blamed on his teammates, thank god fish came and saved the day! Other than that great job by everyone on defense.
LAKERS ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!
PATIENT UPDATE:
Captain Jack is suffering from severe depression and is under heavy sedation. Yesterday, during the day he was upbeat and then late last night he checked into mental clinic for severe depression, unfortunately very serious. I have no idea what may have brought his condition to deteriorate within a span of 12 hours. He is under medical watch and the latest prognosis is not looking good. We are going to wait until late evening tomorrow and see if it worsens or at least gets a temporary relief.
Ron Ron is making Paula Pierce like a false prophet, he is not the Truth....
Dear Edwin Gueco:
Thank you Edwin for volunteering your service to help some of my patients with recovery and you don’t care how obnoxious or foul they get, because you transcend all the petty stuff and welcome my patients with open arms. Is it possible that you are a saint? Could you be Saint Blotto? I looked Saint Peter’s name in the web and found your face in there.
Sincerely,
DP
So I was reading Ron's wiki/bio for whatever reason - it's not like I'm bored as I have plenty of work to do. Anyway, I found out he studied math at St. John's University. Crazy! Ron is a fellow math geek! Hah. Who woulda thunk it?
And, Ron, if you're reading, the Lakers offense is more like a Non-Euclidean triangle!
Im sure he will get back to you when he learns how to read.
Paula Pierce doesn't want to come back to LA, Ron Ron should fulfill his wish, make him stink more!
DP,
I know where you are going and I don't treat all your patients with hate. That is no longer in our vocabulary, we have been hating leprechauns since 1969 so just got exhausted with it. I believe u have to give us some space on our posts, don't interpret them literally because there is a trail of history attached to them. In fact, we have an unwritten rule here in this blog as long as you are decent and don't humiliate our team and its players vehemently in all your posting, then you are most welcome to blog with us. Opinions are cheap, all of us do not have universal accepted opinion on one thing. Learn to agree to disagree at all times.
The idea I have been explaining to everyone here: "We are all Laker fans in this blog except the visitors, trolls or leprechauns." All of us have our own ways, different experiences, opinions in reaching the same objective which is REPEAT. If our opinions today differ from yours or the main stream, please don't chastise these fans. Don't even bother to describe them as saints as a form indirect insult. It takes one to know one so please leave us alone.
Edwin Gueco, dont listen to UncleTom. He is an ignorant fool. Who else would say they wouldnt trade Rondo for Fisher? He is a bitter old man that hasnt gotten any in a long time. He has even seen his since the 60s when his boyfriend left him.
Celtic Nation,
We don't approve your type of posting in this blog, it is indecent, inappropriate and coming from an uneducated fool. Go back to boston blog.
justa - It's amazing. I miss the L.A. weather though that's for sure.
MM
Cuz Rick,
The comments from Doc about the refs are a desperate act. Doc isn't sure what else he can do.
I'm going to make another prediction. The Celtics don't win any two games in a row against us this series. I think we're a better team and we will find a way to prevail.
PP's comments today at the news conference were a thinly-disguised dig at Ron-ron's D as nothing special which then must mean he's frustrated that his chest-thumping at Staples on Sunday went for naught since his team also LOST on their HOME COURT.
Awwwww....the AWFUL "Truth"...lmao
