Lakers' Derek Fisher not amused by Boston's Pierce's comments

He stood before the media after the Lakers' shoot-around in preparation for Game 3 of the NBA Finals Tuesday night, his eyes wide, his jaw taut, his face stern.

Derek Fisher had been asked to comment on Boston's Paul Pierce's comments, but the Lakers guard just stood there in a stony silence instead.

"We ain't coming back to L.A.," Pierce had said in the late moments of Boston's victory over the Lakers in Game 2 at Staples Center on Sunday.

Because both teams flew cross-country Monday, no one from the Lakers had a chance to respond to Pierce's bold proclamation until Tuesday.

But Fisher just stood there for 15 seconds, never saying a word, apparently unamused by what Pierce said.

Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said he was told about Pierce's comments.

"We're going to have to make him a liar," Jackson said, smiling.

Then again, Jackson was told, the Lakers could win all three games in Boston.

If that did happen, the Lakers, who are tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven series, would win the NBA championship and the Celtics indeed wouldn't have to come back to Los Angeles for a Game 6.

"We could end it here," Jackson said. "That's right. He might be right with that."

But with Games 3, 4 and 5 at TD Banknorth Garden, the Lakers know that since the NBA went to the 2-3-2 format for the Finals, only twice in history has the home team won all three middle games.

The Detroit Pistons did that to the Lakers in 2004, when the Pistons won Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Staples Center and then won Games 3, 4 and 5 in Detroit to win the championship.

Because the Lakers didn't practice Monday, they had over a two-hour shoot-around Tuesday.

They watched film and did some work on the court.

"Guys sat on a plane for six hours yesterday and lost part of a day," Jackson said. "We came out here and didn't have an opportunity to work out, so this  is just a little activity for them."

YOU'RE A GENIUS!!!! OUT FREAKIN STANDING!!

Why are these games on a 9pm est?

Hmmm...

Wes

I expected Boston to win game 2. I mean these are the two best teams in the NBA. There is no way this isn't going at least 6, probably 7. I think it will come down to the final minutes of game 7, and with PJ and Kobe my money's on the Lakers!

THE ONLY FEAR WE HAVE TO FEAR IS

LAMAR NOT SHOWING UP FOR THESE PLAYOFFS.

So I will post the "Lamar Anthem" this always seems to bring the best out of him.

.....Remix longer version.

Original by 'You Ever Notice', verses 3 & 4 compliments of 'chikNstu', last 2 verses by yours truly.

Sung to the tune "If I Only Had a Brain" from The Wizard of OZ

I COULD BE A BETTER BALLER
IF MY HEAD WAS ONLY SMALLER
IT JUST GETS IN THE WAY
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD FLY THROUGH THE AIR WITH EASE
AND DUNK IT WITH AUTHORITY
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

I COULD REALLY GET MORE REBOUNDS
IF I DIDN'T SMOKE THOSE 3 POUNDS
I BOUGHT THE OTHER DAY
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD REALLY PLAY FANTASTIC
NOT A DAY WOULD I BE SPASTIC
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

I COULD BE A BETTER SHOOTER
BUT I'D RATHER BE A HOOTERS
DRINKING BEFORE A GAME
dodo dodo dodo

I WOULD MAKE ALL MY 3 POINT SHOTS
BUT HANGOVERS BLUR MY VISION LOTS
IF I ONLY HAD A BRAIN

THEY SAY I COULD BE MAGIC
BUT THAT WOULD BE JUST TRAGIC
TO DRIBBLE MY LIFE AWAY
dodo dodo dodo

SO I'LL SMOKE AND SMOKE THE CHRONIC
WHO CARES IF IT MAKES ME MORONIC
IT'S ONLY JUST A GAME

THEY SAID WHEN I GOT MARRIED
MY GAME WOULD BECOME SCARY
BUT LOOK IT'S STILL THE SAME
dodo dodo dodo

SO I SLEEPWALK THROUGH A GAME OR 2
IT'S JUST WHAT YOU'RE ACCUSTOMED TO
DID YOU THINK I'D EVER CHANGE

It's good to know that Derek is not amused. Now you and a few good lakers need to take that emotion and win game 3, then everybody will know the Lakers can handle the truth, and the truth does lie!

Go get'em Lakers!!!
This is our time, our season, our championship!

pp is right, he won't be coming back to LA
the lakers will win the next three

LO, it's time to wake up and do something!!! It is a sad day in L.A. when an injured Bynum outplayed you, LO. Are you a professional basketball player?

Lakers by 6...

So it is written... so it is done!!!!!!!

This bodes well. Let's hope Ron gets a taste of this intensity.

If I were DFish, I would be more pissed at LO for not showing up in this series.

I keep going over this whole thing and I still can't see how the Lakers lose this series, unless they just beat themselves.

The Lakers can dominate the Celtics inside, and Kobe, and to an extent Fish, should be able to hold their own on the perimeter. The Celtics have no answer for Pau Gasol, and the Lakers have beat the Celtics, in Boston, for the past 2 games.

And again, the Lakers shot horribly the entire 1st half last game, and they still should have won that game. Everything points towards a Lakers win, not just in this game, but AT LEAST 2 games in Boston.

Unless the Lakers really just stop playing well on their own accord, I can't see them losing this series.

Looks like the Celtics get to wrangle with a PO'ed Mamba and Lakers Squad tonight.

As a basketball I say this, the Celtics are a good team. I respect them. There is a reason they made it this far.

Now as I Lakers fan I say this...
There is a big ol' Purple and Gold Train barreling down the tracks and the Celtics are standing right on them. Phil is wearing his Engineers hat and Kobe is punching ticktets to Larry O'brien-ville and there aint nothing thats going to keep that train from ariving on time. AAAALL ABOARD!!!!!!!!

Paul Pierce is absolutely right, I'm just surprise it was coming from him. He knows the Lakers will end it there. The Lakers do not care if they celebrated their championships there. the Lakers fan will not mind it. The Lakers fan will celbrate it here with a parade.

When was the last time an old over the hill star made bogus comments his game couldn't back up? "Win a ring for the king" comes to mind. I hope they make him look like Mo Williams last year with the finals guarantee. Did i mention Pierce is over the hill?

The LA whiners are not going to win the series. It's not your time, season or championship. Your team if you want to call it a team bashes one another, the no class fans whine about officiating constantly and the throw the players under the bus if they do not perform well. Can't wait to see the thrashing the celtics put on you tonight.

Fish seems to play better on the road. I expect a clutch three pointer, charge taken, defensive stop or forced turnover from him tonight.
If we can control the paint with any resemblance of game #1, it's a win for the purple tonight!

Go get'em Lakers!!! This is our time, our season, our championship! Posted by: Fan of the Mamba | June 08, 2010 at 02:47 PM
OUT FREAKIN STANDING!!! WE WILL NOT BE DENIED!!!!!

kobe is not michael.

Fish is a class act. No need to feed the media with nonsense. Whatever needs to be said should be said on the court, period!!!

For the Celtics to repeat the outcome they had in game 2 at the Staples Center they're gonna have to hope that their bench can outplay us again and that Ray Allen lights it up again and that Rondo puts up a similar game to what he had that day.

Yeah, I just don't see that happening. They're gonna have to get waaaaaaaaaay more production outta K.G. and Paul Pierce than they've been getting, what the Lakers got going in their favor is that Boston hasn't really been having a terrific home record this season .

Here is to hoping that the struggling at home continues for the Celts!

Go Lakers!!!

When Portland won one game in Detroit (in 1990?), Jerome Kersey said, "we're not coming back." He was right. Detroit swept the trailblazers in Portland.

LetLamarPlay.com Dear NBA, please let Lamar play the rest of the series. These foul calls are killing the game.

Lakers have a lot to prove. We'll make adjustments from game 2. Come out and clamp down on Rondo, securing rebounds. Allen will come back to earth.

Lakers stun the crowd with a W.

Go Lakers!

I'm a little surprised that Phil doesn't know that if the Lakers win the next 3, they won't come back to LA. I know he has to be practical with his staff (i.e., coaches may know that this series will go to 6 or 7), but he can at least fake it for the players and fans. I guess that's not how he does things.

This is going to be a blowout. I can feel it. I can sense it. From the reaction of Dfish to Phil to Kobe it's like they have a little secret that is about to be unveiled. Don't forget where you heard it. This is going to be a number 1 @zz whipping of the Celtics by the Lakers!

I gave up on the NBA after game 2, Ive watched for so many years, but how do you feel the same after watching the instant replay and seeing the ball go out on Garnette and not Gasol, I mean EVERY camera angle CLEARLY shows Garnette pushing the ball out, and after the refs review it the say its still out on Gasol, that is beyond just making a bad call, 3 refs reviewed it, every angle shows its out on Garnette, so why do they not change their call???? I'M DONE, no longer watching, not tonight, not ever again, and I completely agree with the ref that retired and wrote the book on it, Donahee I think. The NBA is just maximizing profit by stretching the series, and its beyond obvious now.
DONE

I hope the Lakeshow realize whats at stake tonight, we lose this game, it will become much easier for those nervous shots to go down and we will get buried. If we put a whooping on them our confidence will go through the roof and our shots from the bench will start to fall. This is whats it is about, if you cannot get revved up for tonight's game we dont deserve the ring. 3 more, just 3 more.

40 years a laker fan...went to all home games when team set record for most wins in a row. had a tear with Fisher after the game. All is right in the Universe again-- lakers v boston--as it should be. live in columbus, oh now...this is bigger than buckeyes v michigan.

Fisher made me love being a fan of la since the finals of 91

Glad to see Derek, the Fish that BEAT Boston, have his actions speak louder than (no) words in his incredible gutsy 4th quarter...backatya Paulie Pierce!!!

LAKERS!!!

Video of Fish's response:

Perfect. Pierce makes prediction, they ask Fish. I saw Fish's face, and I wondered -- bluff or real huff? We got the answer in the Fourth quarter -- nuff said.

I wonder how the Celtics feel having to wear a Laker on their Jerseys ie. The Logo.

I wonder how the Lakers will feel losing on their home court...
