Bynum expected to play in Game 4, but will Lakers break Suns' zone?

Fabforum_500

Center Andrew Bynum will probably play in Game 4, but the Lakers had another dilemma: what to do with the Phoenix Suns' zone defense.

The Lakers said they had never seen so much zone in an NBA game, particularly in the playoffs. But now they say they'll try to find a way to beat it Tuesday by penetrating more often and, of course, shooting better from the outside in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

Pau Gasol had only one shot in the fourth quarter of Game 3 on Sunday as the Suns pulled away from the Lakers, 118-109, and pulled within a game of evening their best-of-seven series.

"The zone forced us to go away from the inside," said Gasol, who made 11 of 14 shots and had 23 points. "It limited touches in there."

Gasol sees plenty of zone defense when playing internationally on the Spanish national team, but the Suns' use of it from the second quarter onward was a novelty in an NBA game, Gasol said.

"That's the first time probably that I've ever seen it that long," he said.

Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said he had never seen that much zone defense "in a playoff game."

The Lakers set a franchise playoff record by shooting 32 times from three-point range and made only nine.

"Got to be more aggressive," Kobe Bryant said. "We're standing around the perimeter way too much."

Meanwhile, Jackson said he was no longer considering sitting Bynum in Game 4 after a string of punchless performances by the 22-year-old.

Slowed by torn cartilage in his right knee for almost four weeks, Bynum had two points and two rebounds in less than eight minutes Sunday.

"I think he's going to be fine," Jackson said Monday before the Lakers practiced. "I talked to him this morning. He feels like he's OK. I was worried that he was impinging his ability to play by being concerned about his health or his status. He said he's OK."

Jackson thought Bynum might not have been getting full extension on his knee because of the brace he was wearing, so the Lakers will look at adjusting or changing it.

Bynum declined to blame his injury for his recent struggles. Four of his last five games have been quiet at best, including Sunday's foul-plagued effort. He had four fouls and was never a factor.

"I'm not putting it on the knee," he said. "I've been able to play well with it. The pain has been the same. It hasn't increased."

Surgery had been out of the question, the Lakers reiterated, because Bynum's return this season would have been questionable when the injury happened April 30 against Oklahoma City.

"Everything he's done with therapy and procedures in the past have taken longer" than expected for his recovery, Jackson said. "Three or four weeks would have been six or eight."

The NBA Finals, if the Lakers get there, begin June 1 or 3.

In other injury news, Suns guard Steve Nash was diagnosed with a minimally displaced nasal fracture and also displaced cartilage in the nose, though he won't miss any time. He was injured in the fourth quarter of Game 3 after being fouled by Derek Fisher.

I'm glad Bynum is going to play. The high/low game of his and Pau's will be just the recipe that we need to kill the zone.

Lakers in 5.

Go Lakers!

Mr stu

Didn't know we were taking each others words literally here.. I suppose u think I owe u another apology.

Go pound sand!

Dear Laker fans,

I would like to apologize for not showing up in the playoffs, again....and again...and again. I am zero for five when it comes to helping out the team in the playoffs, and I would like to ask Kobe, as well as the fans, for their forgiveness. I am fully aware that I have wasted five years of Kobe's prime, but I am injury prone. There's nothing I can do about it.

I realize that if my #1 fan, Jim Buss, traded me for Jason Kidd, the Lakers might be going for a threepeat this year. I also realize that if Jimbo traded me for Bosh at the trade deadline, the team would undoubtedly be up 3-0 against the Suns. I would also apologize for being overpaid, but that isn't my fault, blame this one on Jim Buss for giving an injury prone player a bloated contract. My contract is no worse than Luke's, so please blame Luke before you blame me. There is one thing that can motivate to elevate my game - seeing Chris Bosh sitting courtside. If Jimmy was smart, he would buy Bosh courtside tickets for the rest of the playoffs.

Anyways, as the Chicago Cubs fans always say, "wait til next year".

Sincerely,

Andrew Bynum

Can't we all just get along?

Congrat's Edwin! Enjoy the day - it's once in a lifetime. Worry about the wallet later - it's only money!

Imagine what would happen if coby, odum, or gasal had their nose broken? They'd need an ambulance and a trauma counselor and lots and lots of babying.

Nash is tougher than the three of them combined!

the lakers got impatient last night. THEY CAN and WILL exploit the zone defense tomorrow night. they had flashes of brilliance in breaking it last night, but were not patient enough in the long run. bynum, please show up. you can definitely play better, if not, take a seat on the bench and let dj mbenga pick up some fouls on lopez. Damn, they made lopez look like a freakin' all-pro! ha ha. i'm sure d.j. can get 4 fouls in 7 1/2 minutes of play. odom and artest were way off, but unlikely they'll have two stinkers b2b!

Hahaha BUTLER...we knew you'd show up as soon as the Suns showed one sign of life. Welcome back!!! Glad you made it before it's all over for Phoenix in a few days.

Jim Bust,

I think you are right on target about the Bynum for Kidd trade. I've said that a few times myself. I sort of understand why when you look at (3 years ago) Bynum's potential, but that POTENTIAL is wearing VERY thin!

MAMBA24,

I want to be on the 1 loss-no big deal Bandwagon, butttt it does concern me just a little. I still am thinking Lakers in 7. I will admit I am a fairly cautious person. Obviously game 4 will show us a bit of what we are really made of.

Can we please drop the "zone" defense nonsense already? What good is a defense that allows 62 points in 2 quarters? Our achilles heal was the 2nd quarter when Bynum was out in foul trouble and Lamar followed suit. We just couldn't recover from a 15pt. quarterand that was it. Both Bynum and Odom were in foul trouble and unable to stick it to Amar'e. We couldn't afford to lose Pau to silly fouls either.

We will recover nicely at tomorrow's game and we can close it out in L.A.

Butt-ler boy,

You're talking about Kobe not being as tough as Nash??

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

You've been gone so long that you forget just exactly how tough the Mamba is.

If Kobe broke his nose, he'd have Vitti spray some Windex on it and he'd be right back in the game.

You so crazy, Butt-ler boy.

Really people, defense is almost always the key to championships! When we took the lead at 92-91 (?) we needed to clamp down, but didn't.

If Kobe broke his nose, he'd have Vitti spray some Windex on it and he'd be right back in the game.

You so crazy, Butt-ler boy.

LMAO Just, he sure would. Heck, he'd bend down grab it with both hands and put it right back into place at center court before the next play is up.

That's BUTLER just being BUTLER!

Free throw differences:

Game 1- LA-22 & PH-32, Game 2- LA-34 & PH-26, Game 3- LA-20 & PH-42!

he Lakers will hit our geriatric stone wall of green, and your darling Kobe will be looking up at the the scoreboard like a little boy lost once again. The Lakers have not been tested against a defense like Boston's circa may 2010. Anyone that thinks the Celtics can't win this knows nothing about basketball.

The Celts have dismantled James and Howard, as if they were playing a high school team, and while the Lakers are certainly deeper, if they underestimate the Green it will be over in five. No one knows this more than Phil Jackson.

Get your manicures and bang your C-List starlets....WERE COMING!

Yes.

It is Andrew Bynum's fault that the officials in last night's game practically fouled him out in the 1st quarter, and went on to hand the Suns 20+ more free throw attempts.

Which if you look closely, occured in each of the three losses, the Lakers have suffered through the 2010 playoffs.

GAME 3 -First Round: Oklahoma City 101, LA Lakers 96

OKC: 27-34 LAL: 10-12 - OKC + 22

GAME 4: First Round: Oklahoma City 110, LA Lakers 89

OKC: 17-28 LAL: 42-48 - OKC + 20

Last Night: Phoenix 118, LA Lakers 109

PHX: 37-42 LAL: 16-20 - PHX + 22

Hmmm....20+ extra free throw attempts for the Suns, and it occured in PHX.

Nope.

Nothing suspicious about that.

@ Butler - The only thing that impressed me about that middle-aged looking woman that plays PG for the Suns, I think her name is Stephanie Nash, is when she took a FACEFUL of Kobe's nether-region area on a spectacular dunk a few years ago.

When you get POSTERIZED with a another man's "junk" ALL IN YOUR FACE I guess that would be "tough"... in essence making Nash the "toughest" little PG in Phoenix.

Maybe you'll get lucky enough to witness Nash take more to the chin before getting wiped of the Playoff grid this year.

bynum is too concern about his knee to be effective in these playoff games. he's got his team mates on a cliff hanger wondering how he will play every night he comes to the court. he's a damn big distraction to the team.

No time like the present to get Andrew goin' for the next round. Glad to hear he and the staff thinks he can go.

EDWIN... “Thank you Mamba24 and I might be in the vicinity of LakerTom's territory by Sunday in San Rafael. Wish WCF is done by that time.” Congratulations on your new son-in-law. NOT UPSET AT ALL ABOUT 1 LOSS TO SUNS - BANDWAGON
*
(01) EASTCOASTJESSIE - OWNER - Surprisingly, I'm not too upset or surprised by the loss last night. Game 3 is always the toughest game to pull out for the visiting team simply because the home team is playing the 1st game in front of their crowd. I expected them to play with much more energy and aggresiveness on their home floor. I always said this would be a 6 game series but after watching the Suns play their best game last night and be tied or up by just a few points most of the game, I say 5 games now. This will most likely be their only win in this series.
(02)ROCKY - DRIVER - We will beat the Suns, then we will be in a position that we haven't been in since we had Kwame Brown; we'll be the underdogs. While it does not please me that the C's are back on top, I think being the underdog going onto the Finals will probably be a good thing for the Lakers. The Lakers under Phil Jackson have always played their best ball when there is doubt, when they are the underdogs.
(03) LONGTIMELAKERLOVER- RIDING SHOTGUN - Not worried, even a little bit. I expected PHX to get some home cooking, and despite how bad we moved the ball and shot, we still scored 108 and it was close 'til the end. To quote someone above, "Lakers in five still works nicely."
(04)
(05)PEACE - SECURITY - I'm disappointed after every Lakers' loss. But if that's what it takes for the Suns to beat LA the rest of the series, so be it. They're 2-5 against the Lakers this season. They'll have to win 3 of the next 4.
(06) MAMBA24 - REPLAY OFFICIAL - If they aren't that upset I guess I'm not either
(07) CALIPHILOSOPHER - REFEREE - Actually, IF we make the finals (since I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch), there is a possibility of our team winning the championship.
(08)TOM DANIELS - DIRECTOR OF TUESDAY WIN # 3 - Not worried. Lakers won 8 playoff games in a row. They lose a game on the road to the Suns, a great home team that did, after all, make it to the conference finals and had their backs to the wall. Lakers did a good job early on weathering the Suns' strong emotional start and actually winning the first quarter. But Amare's agressive game was effective in scoring and (more importantly) in getting the Lakers' bigs in foul trouble. The zone got the Lakers out of rhythm and gave the Confidence. And the game got away.I think this is Suns' only win.
(09) ART-FL LAKER FAN - Director Win # 4 Thursday - Game 4: take care of the ball, cut down on 3's, drive. Seems the Suns are going to dare the Lakers to beat them from outside. What else is new?
(10)HOBBITMAGE - BYNUMS BIGGEST FAN - had expected PHX's best punch this game. I had expected a fall off in the shooting of LO & Artest. Lakers in 5 still works nicely.
(11) TIM-4-SHOW - It was the difference between this being a 4 game series and a 6 gamer.Close out in PHX Hopefully I'm wrong and they find some heart in game 4.
(12)JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - KOBES DUNK COACH - Does anyone really think The Show won't make the appropriate adjustments and win Game 4? Really? I can't believe the Lakers will let a very close win by the Suns in 1 game to defeat them mentally for the rest of the series. Our guys are in it to win it. Period. The only question is how bad are the Suns going to get beaten by in the next game? And the one after that? We have a date with destiny people - and the Suns are not in that equation. We have a date with destiny people - and the Suns are not in that equation.
(13) HALOSANT - Look, I was hoping, as well as all of the Laker Nation, for a Sweep. But hey, the Suns came out with some heart. What do expect... we're the ALL MIGHTY WEST BABY!!!! Our teams have PASSION and PRIDE unlike most of the WEAK EAST teams... we won't mention any names, right Orlando, Cleveland, Milwuakee & Atlanta? Celtic Fans, don't get your panties wet just yet... who the hell have the Celtic's beaten so far? All of them essentially "One-Man" teams like the Lebron-aliers and now the Orlando Howard... you know damn well the Lakers are not just a "One-Man" team, although we do have "THE MAN". Keep up the DREAM that this "one" loss means you can beat us in the Finals... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
(14) KEIFO – PENALTY OFFICIAL - Lakers take tomorrows game by at least 15 go lakeshow!!!
(15) TODD – NO NONSENSE OFFICIAL - Ok so the Suns are not chumps. However, its unclear they can do it again. Amare was "lucky"
(16) MAGIC PHIL - put me in the NOT UPSET AT ALL ABOUT 1 LOSS TO SUNS – BANDWAGON The Suns went 42 times to the FT line, that's not gonna happen again tomorrow.
(17) MAYOR OF KOBE TOWN - THE MAYOR - I've heard of Home Cooking, but last night PHX had the equivalent of a 2 star michelin chef cooking a 7 course meal in their house.
A player (Lopez) INTENTIONALLY strikes an opposing player, in the HEAD, with his ELBOW (an ejectable offense to say the least) and is given only a technical foul, as is the other player who did nothing but get hit in the head. If Lopez isn't suspended for the next game we'll know something is up. The NBA can't be happy with these series all ending so quickly, unfortunately their attempts to extend it can't even be called "thinly veiled" when you look at the free throw totals.
(18)EDWIN GUECO - JUDGE/JURY/EXECUTIONER - tell the Laker nation not to worry too much of the loss. We need one in order to be humbled because we have a tendency to be over confident. It was just a month ago when Lakers were not given a chance to be in the WCF, it was Nuggets, Mavs but we're here.
(19) JON K – LUCKY STOOL OWNER - I can somehow live with losing by 9 when the opposing team has 22 more freethrows. 7. I'm worried about Andrew Bynum... a lot. I was impressed by Kobe and Phil's maturity and calmness during their interviews. They are not panicking... at all. . I originally picked the Lakers to win in six. I think that the Celtics' success and our domination in the first two games took my mind out of reality and I began to be affected by my fellow Lakeraholics' enthusiam and I assumed sweep. Now, back to reality. How the heck did Stoudemire score 42 points? Really? Onto the next game!
(20) MR.NANO –I expected our team losing the next one too, although they are totally cappable to win it. As yellofever said, it was similar to the game 3 in OKC... and i may add, a couple more from 2008 to the present. I can see a pattern there, so that's why i told that we'll win in 6. Is something mental in our team, and that is expected, in my opinion. BUT that worries me if we go to the finals. That can be the decisive factor confronting the C's. And that's the coach team job, to end those "lapsus". Is good to lose from time to time, it make us to have our feet on the ground.
(21) VMAN - ONE Game The outcome is still inevitable.
(22) TROY – Lakers in 6.

(23) THE SNAKE - At around the same time last year, we were 2-1 against DEN in the WCF. We'll be fine.
(24) D(erek)J(eter) - I want to be on the 1 loss-no big deal Bandwagon, butttt it does concern me just a little. I still am thinking Lakers in 7. I will admit I am a fairly cautious person. Obviously game 4 will show us a bit of what we are really made of.
(25)

breaking zones isn't about shooting 3s. Its about attacking the gaps between the defenders and making them commit.

Its just a change in mindset, which is often hard to do when your other game plan has dominated.

We'll see if the Suns can continue this level of competitiveness....

EastCoastJessie - Great to hear from you again!

HalosAnt sez:

"@ Butler - The only thing that impressed me about that middle-aged looking woman that plays PG for the Suns, I think her name is Stephanie Nash, is when she took a FACEFUL of Kobe's nether-region area on a spectacular dunk a few years ago"

That's just like an LA fan to bring up a coby dunk over a short white guy from canada to bolster his self esteem. Wow, you're right, that compares with the best dunks of all time! Forget Kevin Johnson dunking on Hakeem..

Of course, Nash led the SUNS past LA and coby in that series, which is the part you probably tried to forget. Also that our hero D'Antoni mastered Phil Jackson and Coby, who has yet to live up to his idol's (D'Antoni) greatness.

Butler good post...but try to at least spell one out of 3 Laker names correctly.

ROFLMAO!!

Thanks LakerTom, we're staying in Oakland tho' visiting a niece who just had a baby in San Rafael on Sunday pm. Thanks for the invite, perhaps I'll just email u. if I get it from MM. Will be very busy entertaining out of town visitors, driving them to the airport. I myself is an out of towner too. If Lakers win it this Tuesday plus Thursday then our weekend is made and relaxed. If they are still playing beyond the 29th, omg, we're back in the trenches we have no appetite to eat, no mood to talk and we are living dead. We'll hear endless laughter from Leprechauns. That is just the fairweather thinking. LMAO!

Justa, I know it is just money. We better spend it first before Goldman Sachs, B of A get hold of it and play with your money, their executives receive options while we just live with CD interest. What we can afford is Lakers Blog because it's free. lol!

Btw, our moderator said in the previous thread that he has a computer problem, anybody there who can help. LAT could not provide a replacement laptop. Perhaps, MM you can use a computer at a nearest library and blog from there. lol!

Now Now Edwin! Lol!

This is just something pasted from a website:

Attacking a Zone Defense
--
While strategies for countering zone defenses vary and often depend on the strengths and weaknesses of both the offensive and defensive teams, there are some general principles that are typically used by offensive teams when facing a zone.
---
*Many popular zones (such as the 2–3 and 1–2–2) have a gap in the middle of the lane. Getting the ball in this area can be very effective because the defense is often forced to "collapse" on the ball handler, freeing up other players for open shots. To exploit this gap, many teams assign a forward to operate in the "high post" area near the free throw line to catch and distribute the ball. A forward in the high post area can also set screens on the players at the top of the zone to allow penetration by the guards.
-
*Quick passing is an important element of attacking any zone. The defense will shift as the ball moves, but if the offense can move the ball faster than the defense can react, open shots can result. Quick passing against a zone often leads to open three-point shots, and zone defenses are less effective against teams with good three-point shooters.
-
*Dribble penetration is very effective in breaking down a zone. If a guard can dribble into the gaps in the zone, multiple defenders must converge on the ball. The ball handler can then often pass to an open teammate for a shot. This strategy illustrates why preventing dribble penetration is important in playing an effective zone defense.
-
*Short Corner: Attacking the "Short Corner", or baseline area behind the defense outside the lane, against a 2-3 zone puts the defense in rotation and opens up the mid post.
-
*Screening the backside of the zone: this opens up weakside shooters off a skip pass or ball rotation.

@The snake, as always you come through with the goods sir!
OUT FREAKIN STANDING SIR!!! and Thank you.
Mamba24

Bosh for Bynum please!

NO!

Zone may have given the Lakers some difficulty but the main culprit was the early fouls of Drew, missing lots of shots from Fisher, Artest and LO, then Amare was turned loose on rampage. This is good for Amare because he's not expected to come back with the Suns next season. Kobe can easily attack the zone provided the guy gets the ball can give Kobe an assist. If it is a brick shot, zone or man2man, it will always be a problem.

Suns choose zone for game 4, Lakers should go what has been working during those series of wins. POUND THE INSIDE. If you have two towers standing there and they keep on shooting within their range, the chances of getting a point has a higher percentage than settling for threes. Artest should go inside than going with threes. He is strong, he is quick and could put Amare in foul trouble if there is concerted effort in going thru amare. Fisher could not outfox Nash tho' because fisher's strength he could put Nash in foul trouble too.

Kobe had a monster Game.

Pau has a fantastic game.

Even Derek Fisher provided good points.

Lamar and Artest played like New York Bums (no offense to our Big Apple Laker fans though Brooklyn rocks minus Lebron).

THE RETURN OF MR. BIG MOUTH PART 2.
-----------------------------------------------------------

"PHOENIX — Asked about Andrew Bynum’s phrasing that “it’s going to be amazing to play against those (Boston) guys again,” Phil Jackson said Sunday it was “what we call a brain fart in our business. He wasn’t thinking very clearly right there.”"

-Phil Jackson

http://lakers.freedomblogging.com/2010/05/23/phil-calls-bynums-celtics-comment-a-brain-fart/36355/

And how did Andrew Bynum back up his words?

2 points 2 rebounds and a whole whopping 4 fouls in less than 7 minutes (seconds) or less.

Oh wait he told the truth now did he?? Appears he did considering his head wasn't in the game and somewhere else having a brain fart!

That being said I'm hoping he has a rebound game in Game 4 instead of having his biggest fans think he's the franchise player who runs his mouth to another series when one isn't done yet!

Do you know what DISGUSTS me more than a troll? All these FAKE @ZZ so-called Laker Fans that say BULL like "The Lakers don't have the match ups to beat the Celtics, but I'm a true Laker Fan..."

A TRUE Laker Fan would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER admit that another team could beat them even when facing 0-3 and down 30 points with half a Quarter left in an Elimination Game!!! Hell, any TRUE team fan for that matter.

I may not like when another team's trolls enter our Blog (ie. 131-92, Red's Step Child, Big Green in Boston... heck even Butler, etc..) but I respect them for the fact that I know that they would NEVER admit defeat for thier respective teams.

Please stow the "I'm a true fan, BUT..."

YOU ARE NOT A TRUE FAN AT ALL AND WE DON"T NEED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAMBA24

Interesting stat:

LA is 0-7 in the last 7 postseason games played in AZ

I just have this hunch that the celtics are going to lose tonight. I think I'll go bet.
Mamba24

Does it matter if Bynum plays Game 4? The lazy ass dude is more useless than Luke Walton, he's never won a game for the Lakers. And he never will. He embarrassed his whole team on national TV getting out hustled by Robin Lopez. What a disgrace.

Mamba-

Please say it aint so!

HalosAnt, that's the spirit.

Butler, 131, and RLC, I'd like to formally charge you with cruelty to expired animals. You're beating of dead horses has gone on for too long!

Fortunately we can grant you some leniency. We'll count the year long championship reign of the Lakers as time served, and we'll tack on another year for the coming Laker championship.

Mamba- Please say it aint so! Posted by: 131-92 | May 24, 2010 at 03:04 PM
Yes 131 I'm afraid so. I saw a lil twinkle in Supermans eyes. Tonight for one game and one game only the magic will match the celtics intensity. Then the Celtics will destroy them in the next game. But sad to say 131 and I am indeed sorry. there will be no sweep tonight sir. So put that confetti back up.

Snake should fill in the vacancy of the asst. coach. Did you see Mamba last night doing the coaching in between timeouts? Whe there is a t/o, PJ normally reviews the state sheet, discuss with asst. his thoughts before going to the players. Well kobe an fisher have been with this team for the last 14 seasons. there should be more of that, collective coaching among players who are on the floor. Both of the coaches in the West are just cool while in the East, they're hyper and on the verge of stroke.

2 on 2 time out.

So, hows about if the Lakers and Celtics win 3 each and game 7 is tied at the end of regulation.

I'd like to see them settle it with a little 2 on 2 action by letting Kobe and Gasol go against Pierce and Garnett in the overtime period.

Edwin,

Congratulations. Welcoming a son-in-law to the family is a joyous event. You'll convert him into a Lakers fan eventually. My own future son-in-law is happy to root for the Lakers any day we're not playing the Sixers. That's a good start. Have a fabulous weekend!

. Both of the coaches in the West are just cool while in the East, they're hyper and on the verge of stroke. Posted by: Edwin Gueco | May 24, 2010 at 03:11 PM

That is true. What's up with those Eastern dudes?

Interesting stat:

LA is 0-7 in the last 7 postseason games played in AZ

Here is another INTERESTING STAT:

Of the 11 times the Suns faced the Lakers, they have come out on top only 4 times AND are ZERO for 2 in the NBA Finals.

Serve up that stat Butler.

It wouldn't be fair man. Garnett might bite Pau and Paula would throw her pocketbook at Kobe if she lost.

Larry, I yawn at this loss and I fart in the general direction of all Trolls.

Put me on the "this loss ain't no thing but a chicken wing" bandwagon please.

TIA Mamba24.

This struck me as a too game: too many 3s, too many TOs, too many FTs for the munchkins. Seriously, when do the Finals start?

Blitz/hobbit

I'm sure bynum will be ready against boston like he was against okc/utah...

I wouldn't expect a big EFFORT game out of his gympy knees esp up 2-0 on the suns but expect his intensity to match the level of play or competition.. He will be better against boston... We're playin the freakin suns here.. besides per his statements to the press sounds like he's already moved on to boston mentally.

oh and hobbit... Not another mbenga campaign pls.. I'm a fan but u can't rely on a journeyman career 3rd string center to be a factor against boston.

Congrats@Edwin !

Fist Bumps @ Justa n Mamba... I couldnt agree more !!! Even tho I get a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever we lose a game, Sundays loss is easier to shake off because I expected a split in Phx and I personally, dont wanna sweep.. The more this team plays, the more well oiled the machine becomes.. I've noticed time off usually has us playing sluggish and disinterested once things began to go wrong.. we NEED 6 WINS for a title !!! For crying out loud, Tues nite to me will be the determining factor if this team is hungry this season or not... Lets EAT !!!

Mark G. I am sorry to tell you that because of the oil spill. The Finals were cancelled for this year! All able bodied men not in the military are ordered to report to Louisianna with buckets to scoop up the oil. Sorry the Top Hat, the Golf Balls, The Tires non of these high tech solutions worked.

Larry,

What about DUCT TAPE?

Any self respecting male over 12 knows that Duct Tape can fix anything?

ANYTHING!

Re Tonights Game:

I got a gut feeling the Magic "might" be a little inspired by the Suns attempt to compete and win a game snapping a Lakers win streak, and luck out in Boston tonight.. I know it sounds crazy seeing how they've been manhandled the last 3 games and yes, I think Phx is better than the Magic.. but I dunno.. I think Howard might go off if the refs let them keep playing physical ?? I'm going Magic tonight

DFish Please change your name, you coudn't even carry our DFishes JOCK STRAP What a disgrace to our Derek Fisher!!!!!!!!!!

(25) COMPLEX_BROTHA - I couldnt agree more !!!
(26) MARK G- I yawn at this loss and I fart in the general direction of all Trolls. Put me on the "this loss ain't no thing but a chicken wing" bandwagon please.

HalosAnt,

>>> Do you know what DISGUSTS me more than a troll? All these FAKE @ZZ so-called Laker Fans that say BULL like "The Lakers don't have the match ups to beat the Celtics, but I'm a true Laker Fan..." A TRUE Laker Fan would NEVER, NEVER, NEVER admit that another team could beat them even when facing 0-3 and down 30 points with half a Quarter left in an Elimination Game!!! Hell, any TRUE team fan for that matter.

Sorry, but I don't buy into the loyalty test. Myself, I'm confident the Suns have won their only game of the series, and I'm fine with our matchups against the Celts.

But when I became a Lakers fan, I didn't join the Laker girls (not that I could). A fan is more than a cheerleader. I want my team to play basketball the right way, something Phil Jackson said the players didn't do on Sunday. I want them to be mentally in the game, something Andrew said he wasn't on Sunday.

I'd like to see more critical analysis on this board, not less. A warrior discovers his weakness before his opponent does and counteracts it. Little League rules where every player gets a trophy even if he sucks don't apply in the NBA, especially at the playoff level.

Just like the trolls elevate the stature of this forum and make it more fun, fan critiques of the Lakers make it more relevant. Encourage critical thinking, even if you disagree with it. Blogsync, blogthink, whatever you want to call it, is dangerous. Diversity of thought makes us better and makes us stronger. I'm proud to be a Lakers fan. I'll think and say what I want and I hope everyone else does the same.

BUTLER, here's an even more interesting stat. Lakers 15 nba chmapionships, phoenix suns, zero, zilch, nada, donut etc. the lakers are taking down the suns tomorow night, even though they're lead by their "middle-aged looking woman!" thanks, HaloAnt.....funniest thing i've heard all day! has anyone ever counted the number of times in a game steve nash touches his hair? since sasha doesn't use his skinny, elastic headband anymore........think he could loan it out to the "i carried the olympic flag for my country in the olympics" point guard?

I got a gut feeling the Magic "might" be a little inspired by the Suns attempt to compete and win a game snapping a Lakers win streak, and luck out in Boston tonight.. Where you been? Thought you said you'd be doing a live chat...

Well - you got another chance tomorrow night - DON"T BLOW IT!!

Mamba24 - you need to change this:

JON K – LUCKY STOOL OWNER

It's Luckey BAR stool owner.

The other way is just disgusting.

:)

Match ups! Lakers - Celtics!

Perkins - Bynum (Bynum injured) Even!
Gasol - Garnett (Gasol soft, KG toughness) Even!
Pierce - Artest (who will come out consistent?) Even?
Kobe - Allen (Kobe's playoff performance) Lakers adv!
Rondo - Fisher (MVP of the playoffs- Rondo)Celtics adv.

Odom - Wallace (who will come out consistent?) Even?
Davis - None Celtics Adv!
Brown - Allen Even !
None - Farmar - Lakers

Score 9 total points:

Celtics Adv = 2 pts.
Lakers Adv = 2 pts.
Even = 5 pts

KEY! In the even scenario, Celtics has to prevent Gasol to win the match up against KG. Fot the Lakers, Artest has to prevent Pierce to win the match ups.

Kobe will win.
Rondo will win.

Gasol has to work hard and force his offense to work against a defensive behemoth Kevin Garnett.

Pierce has to force and find his ryhthm in offense against the toughness and quckness of the hands of Ron Artest.

If Ray Allen finds his shots, Fisher will have to make his shots as well.

Rivers and Thibodaue will rally the Celtics, Phil will prepare his team. Who will adjust the effective way WINS!

In 2008 Finals, Phil did not adjust and let Gasol handle both Perkins, KG, Powell and Davis! Gasol folded and the Lakers folded! PHIL could and should have USED MBENGA to muscle the Center and block and foul Rondo's attack to the basket. Mbenga was a willing banger, that was sorely needed in the series to help ease the punishment on Gasol.

Gasol never found his touch and Lakers loss.

This 2010 Celtics is pretty much the same 2008 Celtics only Rondo has become more confident and Perkins more bullish!

The LAkers with Bynum injured are riding AGIN on Gasol's offense inside, can he deliver. Cam kobe break down the offense prepared for him by Thiboduoa so he can find Bynum and Gasol inside and his shooeters inside. Or will Kobe forced to take diffucult shots and turnovers?

The Suns defense is nothing close to the C's.

My prediction:

Game 6 Vujacic ejected, Wallace ejected, Pierce ejected, Artest ejected. Game 7 Kobe takes the winning shot and win!

Lakers champions!!!

While not really Lakers related, this is or should be a candidate for RCOTD.
I was trying to think of a response to that one you responded to Rick, but you said it better than I would have.

So, hows about if the Lakers and Celtics win 3 each and game 7 is tied at the end of regulation.

I'd like to see them settle it with a little 2 on 2 action by letting Kobe and Gasol go against Pierce and Garnett in the overtime period.

Justanothermambafan,

>>> Mamba24 - you need to change this: JON K – LUCKY STOOL OWNER
It's Luckey BAR stool owner. The other way is just disgusting. :)

ROFLMAO.

You've brightened my day, dear BFF.

Majority of the sportswriters reported that the Lakers lost due to the Zone defense applied by the Suns. But if you ponder how the Lakers made adjustments in the second half they played good in fact they scored 62 pts. So this zone defense is non sense to consider in the Lakers loss last night. The truth is they lost because the Suns penetrated the paint with Nash orchestrating it. Also because Amare constantly drove to the basket it created a lot of fouls to the Laker bigs w/c took them out their game. The Lakers did a good job on their offense but they played terribly on the defensive end. I do not want to blame the refs about this loss that's a lame excuse, however the refs should allow the players to play their game, this is the WCF, I am not saying players should hurt each other but allows them to play like the way the ECF going on right now. Compare the fouls called on the Lakers and the fouls the refs called on the game between Boston and the Magic. All I am saying is let the boys play....42 ft in a game is ridiculous.....that's a difference in last night's game....anyway, we are still confident the Lakers will win the series. Go Lakers...

WELCOME TO TWILIGHT ZONE .................where..........

Many Lakers fans have been clamoring for the Celtics and now their worst nightmare is about to be realized, IF they make it past the Phoenix. Last time Lakers played against the Phoenix in the playoffs they were up 3 to 1 and ended up losing the series. Both Lamar and Bynum have proven unreliable due to mental and physical underpinnings. Compared to the Suns, Celtics are monsters defensively and have size and strength to push gimpy Bynum and soft Pau. And then emergence of Rondo and resurfacing of Sheed is timely as well. Celtics team is playing exceptional ball and are back in the hunt as a legitimate title contenders.

There is no gimme this title run and judging from the recent plays of both the contenders, I would give Celtics an edge.

I guess theoretically you could have lucky stool, but how would you ever know? I mean, who would keep such a thing around long enough to figure out it was lucky?

AND SO IT CAME TO PASS. The Lakers down by 2 with 3 seconds left in the 7th game of the Finals. The zen master calls a timeout to design a play for Kobe or Fisher. Both knew in their hearts that the only way this game could be won was to give The Machine the Ball. So out of the timeout and disregarding everything that the Legendary 10 time title winning coach had instructed Fish smiled a crooked grin. Mamba smiled a wicked grin and inbounded the ball to the machine....TO BE CONTINUED

Laker fan-

LOL ... You guys are always killing, beating or kicking peoples butts. Then you go out on the court and you cant stop Robin Lopez? You cant stop a guy named Robin. You cant stop a middle aged woman looking man. You cant stop a guy wearing glasses.

Thanks Rick F and Comple Brotha'

(sorry for typos on preceding post, hard to type, think when while napping. lol)

Rick, I may have to bribe him to cheer for the Lakers. I just told him this afternoon Mike Brown got fired, he replied "good, we have a chance of signing LBJ." I further added - I think the Cavaliers should be more realistic, go for young players who wanted to win with Cleveland than a marquee player who want to rake all money he can get and win a Championship too." He replied again, Cavaliers can't wait, they have been waiting for years, all we got is
COY & MVP, for the coach and the player, not for the team I would hear more whines from the family so I will be an attentive Laker fan this weekend.

Complex Brotha', nice to hear from you again. We missed your insights in the blog. Hope you keep on posting more.

Halos ant, for into., there are the lakerholics and there are the perfectionists. The latter are hard to deal with because they have low tolerance for mistakes. If Artest makes those shots, he's a good addition to the team and when he misses a ton of them like last night, he's a no-good bum, a distracted bum, where is trevor? hard to please the perfectionist I believe Fisher and Gasol have sustained multiple needle pricks while playing from their live witches in the blog. They can't slow down or go softer, or else another needle in the butt. lol!

Mamba24 - STOP IT!!! STOP IT RIGHT NOW!!!

I didn't realize I'd need a hazmat suit to blog here....

Mark G - you know and I know that you were thinking it...!

Art - yeah - I caught that right after I sent it, but didn't realize the spelling police were on alert! LOL!

Larry, "ME LUCKY STOOL" sounds like your typing with an Irish brogue. Posted by: Mark G | May 24, 2010 at 04:06 PM

Laker fan-

LOL ... You guys are always killing, beating or kicking peoples butts. Then you go out on the court and you cant stop Robin Lopez? You cant stop a guy named Robin. You cant stop a middle aged woman looking man. You cant stop a guy wearing glasses.

=============

It seems you are confusing the fans with the players. We the fans don't play the game, we don't go on the court.
As for the killing, beating and kicking of butts, yes, we are a violent species.
So what say you, are the Celts going to love us, give us back massages and lick our butts?
Well, maybe the last one.
Anyway, Celts fans set a very nice example of sportsmanship last time they won a finals.
Attacking a bus??
C'mon 131, admit that was pretty lame.

Mike Brown was in a no win situation.

He runs the team like he wants to, and Princess gets him fired.

He lets the Princess run the team so he won't get fired, but then doesn't make the Finals cuz of the way the princess ran the team, and gets fired anyways.

No win.

That's a shame. Considering last year he was COY. This year he's just POY (Patsy of the Year).

======================

I've heard people say Lucky Charms taste like, umm, crap, but I never knew it was literally true.
The things one can learn on a Lakers blog.

Larry, I thought your Joke was good, I just have this thing against Lucky Charms.

Speaking of falling flat though, I was really disappointed my Duct Tape line got nothing, but what can you do? You throw it out there and hope for the best?

Justa, I swear, I never put the "catching lucky stool" thing together. That was all Larry. Now, I admit, I kind of wish I had thought of it, but I didn't.
