Lakers get beat down by Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats 98, Lakers 83 (final)
The Lakers have lost two of three on this three-game trip.
They followed up an overtime loss to the Miami Heat on Thursday night with a poor effort against the Bobcats tonight at Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Lakers didn't play any defense, allowing the Bobcats to make 51.4% of their shots.
The Lakers turned the ball over 20 times and shot only 36.3% from the field.
Kobe Bryant had 26 points, but he was nine-for-21 shooting from the field. Pau Gasol had another tough game, scoring 11 points on five-for-14 shooting.
Guard Stephen Jackson scored 21 points to lead Charlotte, while All-Star forward Gerald Wallace finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

LongTimeLakerFan,
This was *team* basketball wasn't it? [ sarcasm. ]
My frustration comes from:
1. They've been coasting for most of the season.
2. The consistent excuses about why they're not playing hard.
3. The whining about not getting touches.
4. The *hustle* when Kobe wasn't on the court.
Such sloppy, uninspired basketball. Such *soft* play by our bigs
after getting nice contracts.
If one were playing a drinking game based on turnovers .... one would be
3-sheets to the wind and unable to type.
Pau's game in a nutshell: he goes for a dunk and blows it.

A comprehensively pathetic performance from players and the coach. This team must be broken up by the end of the year, I'm sorry but no dynasty with this one. Either Gasol or Bynum together with Artest or Odom will be traded for fresh blood. A new coach with new ideas and spark will arrive too.

i hope will have a video of that ONE. now that was pretty.
i was wondering if there is a stat showing players knocked on the floor. Gas-none will be the leader of the NBA. Gasol for SOAT (softest player of all time). common hollinger, do your job.

It is too bad and a shame that we can't transplant the hearts of these Lakers (and their coaches) with those of the Houston Rocket or Utah Jazz. Now those two teams have got to be the best over-achieving teams in the league. In spite of very meager basketball talents, they managed to stay competitive purely by playing their hearts out every night.
But then again what do we expect out of a team that has been poisoned into softness and complacency with all that book-reading, drum-banging, touchy-feely zen craps.
Give me some well-tattooed gangstas and thugs for basketball players already! Sick of this pathetic lack of emotion and dedication to win at all cost...

This team is not responding to PJ, tuning him out. Meaning he may not be back next season. Also something internal going on among the players, they loose on Sunday they'll be circling the drain.
Posted by: 2Phatt | March 05, 2010 at 07:13 PM
at the beginning of the game, after a whistle, Gasol had the ball. he tried to show his toughness and dunk by himself. he missed: PRICELESS.
at 4:05 1st qt. he missed point blank. the cats commentators where shocked.
at 3:38 on the next possession missed a left hook. whowwww got lots of touches.
when will anyone call this guy out? his charade of BB takes the notion of SKILLS to another level. is he a POWER forward? or just POWER back-word?
i'm expecting a nervous breakdown.
after demonstrating all the facets of his impotence, he pushed a player for an offensive rebound. he was caught by the zebras. and the cocker spaniel covered his face with his flap-able ears. back in his corner on the bench.
i'm not surprised he makes donations for all his scoring points. poor organizations. they get no money. what a cheap spoke person. but good PR. i hope he will request another raise (more touches) so he can overpass. but is pretty because it is TEAM basketball.
ohhhhhhh and the pinball sequence with his feet. that was pretty too.
and looks like his newer skill is to dribble the ball off his foot. this time the zebras did not give him the ball back like in miami. that was his pre-NBA point guard impersonation.
and the fade-away in the first quarter: nothing but air - 2 feet from the rim. from 4-5 ft. distance. another pretty move.
i love his relentless march for self-humiliation. what a masochist.
MORE TOUCHES. MORE TOUCHES. MORE

Another loss. I missed the game and based on comments on the live chat, it looks like an ugly loss. Honestly, I am getting a little concerned. Another loss on Sunday and it will not be good. Lakers looked distracted, uninspired and divided these last two games. I am looking forward how they will respond on Sunday.
Posted by: Jeanette | March 05, 2010 at 07:31 PM
Lakers are tired of winning at Staples.
Last night, they got drunk in Miami, truly lakerholics.
Tonight, they had a severe hangover.
They will be fine on Sunday because Phil Jackson will put them all in the doghouse for the 36 hours. It would be nice if Jerry Buss will not turn over their pay this month for lack of effort on recurring missed free throws, short of enthusiasm in defense and rebounds and committing lazy passes that leads to T/O's. The babies lacked sleep in b2b games.
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | March 05, 2010 at 07:33 PM
please do not misunderstand this sentiment: i want a loss on sunday. no, not for the team. but i'm tired of the myth that from the moment Gasol came on the team, the Lakers did not lose 3 in a row. it is false. even if it is true on paper.
it will also be pretty to see that after arroyo creamed the PG yesterday, dj augustin did it today how jameer nelson will school them on sunday. i hope that will be a real wake up call for mitch who is sleeping in trenches.
Posted by: ouchhhhhhhhh | March 05, 2010 at 07:36 PM
This team is beyond frustrating. Another ridiculous loss. With the level of talent they have, they should be routinely blowing teams out of the building. Instead, they hardly put forth any effort. Can't believe the stupid turnovers and horrendous shooting. The Lakers mentally and physically are just soft--they just don't want it bad enough and don't care. No killer instinct. In particular, Gasol and Bynum have been playing like garbage. Kobe's shooting has been off, but nobody else is stepping up. Let's face it, last season they were lucky to win it. This season their luck will run out....

All,
Sucks.
We all know we suck big time lately. But, I still have faith in our Lakers. I just wish the season is done, so that, we could all witness our Lakers play to their capabilities. It is pretty obvious our guys play lackadaisical during this entire regular season.
Sucks really. But I'm not counting them out yet until they play their last game of the season(playoffs).
Until there's no more games left to be played, I STILL BELIEVE.

Posted by: kensey | March 05, 2010 at 07:51 PM
Andrew Bynum isn't Shaq. He's selfish and uninspired. He's got his 6 million a year whether they win or lose, so why bother to really learn the game? He doesn't have the fire in the gut, and his attitude infects the team.
When Shaq said he wanted his "touches" it was to pass it to guys to knock down shots. Inside out game, remember? Andrew wants the ball to make some sort of finesse move to improve his stats. Period.
Watching last night's game was the first time this year I thought....might be LeBron's year. He's wants it bad. We don't. Also, Luke Walton is a huge part of the team, and now that he's out, he's missed big time.
Posted by: Sarah Smith | March 05, 2010 at 07:53 PM
Sometimes there is a fatigue after winning a championship. Hard to get that drive again for next year. Maybe it's LeBron's year. He obviously wants it more than the Lakers. They have their rings.
Andrew is just plain lazy. You can see the disgust and disappointment on Phil and Kobe's face. He's there for the paycheck. Never played in high school (8 games) never played in college. He's about the money. Period. Doesn't really love the game. If he was born short, he'd be selling insurance. So he's clogging up the middle and doesn't have the love, the fire, the desire to win games. He's got his bank account, his Playboy mansion invites, and really doesn't need anything more.
His selfish, lazy attitude infects the team. As center, the game revolves around him, and he needs to be traded, for his attitude if no other reason. Remember it was Jim Buss who wanted him; neither Phil nor Mitch wanted him bad enough to bribe him to stay. Ugh
Posted by: Sarah Smith | March 05, 2010 at 07:58 PM
Gotta say:
This isn't the Pau that was a main cog in the championship wheel. He's missin' shots he made with regularity last year. He's had a tough time meshing with Andrew. He's caught in between positions defensively. Teams have had a year to prepare for him, injuries, fatigue, etc.
Cleveland had a decent losing streak, no team is dominating this year.
Parody is good for the game, bad for Laker fans.
This too will change.

Leadership makes all the difference in the world.
Not so long ago, 5 games were beautiful to watch. Lakers were in dominating fashion and Laker teammates were energized and upbeat playing like a real TEAM.
The next 5 games after that, everything went south. Today's game is the worst of all.
What happened?
How long before this Laker blog open their eyes? This Lakers team can not be beat, only their Leadership can beat this TALENTED LAKERS TEAM.
It is obvious the TEAM does not like to play with their LEADER.
Kobe thinks he can do it alone, with his skllis, with his will and with his heroics, KOBE is wrong!
He needs his teammates.
Kobe deserves to have teammates like Kwame, Smush, Cook and Tierre Brown. So he can shoot and dominate the game all he wants.
You would think, Kobe has matured and learn from his past. But so quick he forgets after he celebrates his new ring.
Kobe does not deserve to have a Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom and Ron Artest. Kobe has brought out the worst in these magnificent players, it was not long ago for 5 games these players were special without Kobe. Look, what they have become with Kobe!
Kobe needs to play team ball, change his Leadership attitude towards his teammates and maybe, just maybe they might still believe in him.
Kobe's biggest weakness is his Leadership.

Every great team has a great Leader.
This is the problem of this highly talented Lakers team. This is why they are not consistently winning in dominant fashion like tghey should be.
No one can beat the Lakers except Kobe himself.
Kobe beats the Lakers, not the Bobcats or the Miami Heat.
Kobe will not jeopardize his championship aspirations, in due time he will play like a team player, focuses on defnse and not his offense, his teammates will play better when the stakes are all high.
But make no mistake this team does not like to play with Kobe Bryant.

Ouchhh,
Seriously, here is my positive spin on these losses why PJ is not really much concerned. It happens during the season and on the road.
Sometimes losses are teaching lesson during the playoffs that could change the dynamics of well-oiled confident players. It may cure their spoils like some bloggers here and become HUMBLE in their approach during their quest for another Championship. Those individual air heads "that we are cocky in flipping switches" mentality may disappear. They will communicate more, get together and assert their strength and cover each other individual handicaps. As it was mentioned for immature players, it could become a wake-up call. Individually, they are talented group but right now they are out of sync because they're individualistic in their approach in winning or rather losing games.
I read a quote about Daily Aspirations, it says like this:
Strong enough to gain mastery over ourselves
Humble enough to be willing to learn from others
Brave enough to choose the right roads
Patient enough to keep on in spite of obstacles
Wise enough to know our shortcomings
Honest enough to admit the excellence of others
Proud enough to get respect of strong men
Gentle enough to hold the love of little children
Careful enough to protect the good of others
Courageous enough to share of fortune to less fortunate
This should be our Daily Aspirations.

Sarah - if Phil really felt that way about Bynum, he would start Odom and bench him. The only way to get to Bynum is to put him in the second unit. If Phil puts him in the second unit, hoping *that* will motivate him, then your thesis stands correct.
Or, you are correct on your read and Phil simply does not have the starch or authority to make such a move.
Something needs to change. Getting Bynum out of the second unit seems to be the most obvious choice.

I have so very little to say after this loss, but I will write this much:
Kobe's jaw-jutting ferocity seems a very, very long time ago.
Someone needs to stand up and hold these Lakers accountable. And once, just ONCE, I'd like to see Phil stand up and YELL at them. Shake them out of their complacency.
I just don't see anyone on this team with any real DRIVE right now.

What they need is for the playoffs to start. They're obviusly bored and uninspired by the regular season. But let's remember people that Cleveland was a juggernaut last year only to fall to the Magic in the ECF. Besides, repeating is not always a walk in the park. All you "fake" laker fans please jump off the bandwagon now. When all is said and done, they're still the defending champs and will remain that way until proven otherwise. Purple and gold all the way!

The obvious assumption that the lakers suck is obvious. But what to do about it? Bynum and Gasol together doesn't work, as much as the wet dream of having two talented seven footers continues to intrigue. Bynum appears interested in only increasing his stats, while Gasol plays like a pansy while playing alongside Bynum. After watching his team play better without him, Kobe for the first time seems insecure and indecisive. Phil Jackson seems stuck also, perhaps pondering his future, and unable or unwilling to inspire a team that seems to play without any joy or passion. It seems to me that a team this talented almost has to try to play this badly, and they must really be stuck to play like this. Can they really be this bad? My gut feeling says no.

I still do not understand why PJ is playing Fisher ?? He was burned out...out of breath by the middle of the 2nd quarter. He has nothing left and is the slowest and poorest shooting PG in the league. I wonder if the team watches the games film and look at how they play ?? If I were Fisher I would really be embarrased. Kobe is turning out to be the "turn over" king. Shannon is getting bad and he looks like he is out of it. Long summer coming up.

What happen to the team that won 4 out of 5 games without Kobe? Why are they not playing together again? It's not just bad or poor effort and they also have a Bad chemistry on the court. I'm not sure if they want to send a message that they want Kobe out. Are they tired of playing Kobe's basketball? Pau is not himself as of late. Lamar is starting look like the 2nd best player in that team. Lamar led the team while Kobe was out. Pau had a couple bad games but Lamar was consistent. I'm really concerned about their chemistry. I know they can't win without Kobe. But it seems like they rather lose than win another game with Kobe. I think Kobe shouldn't bark at them at all. They have talk and comprimise collectively or they can forget about a repeat. Against the Heat, even though Kobe scored most of the points in the fourth quarter - the team didnt seem to care. Why stand around and watch him shoot for the rest of the game? Why not pass the ball around and let Kobe get the last touch? It's only a matter of time before someone speaks out. Pau spoke out but had but bad games after that. I'm almost hoping that they lose to the Magic so they'll realize they have work even harder to beat . Sense of urgency is a little overrated with their situation. They simply need to get along on the court and thru out the game. They're starting look like the Clippers (j/k). Too many careless for a veteran team or defending champs. They're not even having fun or playing with any passion. They raise the bar last season and they're not holding up to it. The Nuggets and Mavs are catching up. The Lakers winning record is deceiving. They can win consistently on the road. I hope they prove everybody wrong again. As long as Phil coaching that team, they have a greater chance than any other team. If Phil is not worried, us spoiled fans should chill til the playoffs. But we can vent or release our frustrations once in a while. That's what this blog is all about. Thanks Mark...Keep up the great work.

Hi guys:
I've been so busy with work lately and didn't get a chance to post or participate in the live chat. Any how, I realize how terrible all of you feel after the lackadaisical games we had in the past few weeks. Granted, Paul and Bynum will not be remembered as the second coming of the twin towers we dream of. DFish is aged by the minutes, Kobe's injuries finally caught up to him and our bench (Except Lamar) has not contributed as expected. But please, do not lost your faith in the team just yet. This team is currently caught in the quakemire and I hope they will find their way out of the doldrums.
I'm calling out anyone who made reference that Kobe is the cause of our sloppy play. Kobe gives us the heart and soul on every game!
Let's stay focus together instead of trashing this team to piece. It's just one game!
In Kobe, I Trust!

The reality is that KB and Farmer were the reasons they lost to the Heats and KB and Gosal were the reasons they lost last night. KB is a ball hog. He controls the ball 90% of the time or so it seems, hence he gets the most points. Gosal makes almost the same amount of good plays as he does bad plays, so he is a wash. SB is a little KB in the making. Because Artest had two solid games with the Lakers, I am detecting a bit of cockiness from him. Drew is still their best first quarter player and that's all he is. Fisher always tries his best for the team but I guess his best is not good enough. Has anyone notice that no one passes the ball to LO when he is in the paint and can make crucial baskets? I am still trying to figure out why PJ limited LOs time last night and only sent him out when it was impossible to win. Why PJ, why?????????????

I disagree and Bynum is not selfish and uninspired. He was hustling and was the most effective big out on the floor. Shaq wanted his touches so he could dunk ball and be the man. Sorry but BB is team sport and needs inside/outside game. That is why he resented Kobe and all perimeter players he played with. As far as Luke is concerned, yes he is missed, especially by the other teams which are sad not to see him on the floor.
