Lakers forward Ron Artest declines to explain reasoning he won't participate in free-throw contest at Fan Jam

Those looking for an explanation from Lakers forward Ron Artest on why he won't participate in Saturday’s world-record free-throw attempt at the Lakers' Fan Jam will be hard-pressed to find one. See the video below.

Lakers guard Shannon Brown will replace Artest, teaming with Lamar Odom to attempt to break the Guinness Book of World for free throws made by a pair in one minute.  A reason has been given.  It's due to Artest's sprained left thumb, according to Lakers spokesman John Black. In the video, Artest wouldn't confirm that.

The audio didn't pick this up, but one reporter asked Odom what he thought of the switch. Odom, whose locker is next to Artest, had a pretty laid-back attitude, and Artest joked that the media was trying to stir up division within the locker room. Nonetheless, Artest is excited to at least attend the event.

Good. I don't know why they're having a contest like this during the season anyways. It's not a good idea. We've all seen how devistating a few missed free throws have been to Gasol's game (He's basically sucked since he missed those two game winners a few months ago), so lets stick with the regulation NBA gme.

And Bynum, Mr. Gumby skin, please stop with the injuries after 4 consecutive quality games. This is the 3rd straight year Bynum has 4 good games, and then blows something out. Srop it!

Wes

If Drew's out for an extended period of time, maybe Ron should get some time at PF. He may be a bit undersized, but he certainly has the strength to hang with other PF's in the league. He can be like our Paul Millsap or Carl Landry. Playing Kobe or Sasha more at SF can give us a more explosive lineup on the floor.

I didn't watch the entire game last night, but from the parts that I did watch, Ron just looked completely out of sync on offense. He appears to be very indecisive on the floor, not knowing when to pass or shoot, which leads to bad decisions. I'm not sure what's causing this. He's played in the Triangle long enough to be relatively comfortable with the offense by now.

Seriously, Gary Vitti is a weakness on our team. He tends to prolong injuries. I hope that Bynum doesn't have to go to his own doctor in NYC due to a lack of trust.

GOOOooooOOO LAKERS !!!

Will Artest not be at the fan jam, or is he just not participating in the free throw contest?

Mark Medina,

Brother, just a little advice, in a lot of your videos it is REALLY, REALLY hard to hear all of the audio. I don't know what you can do about that, but if there is anything you can do about it, it will be appreciated.

Guys,

Sorry for any confusion. Whoever edited my story changed the original headline which I have since changed. Ron will be at the event, but wont be competing in the FT contest.

When's Bynum's MRI?

If there is a free throwcontest we should enter Farmar and Pau or leave LO in. We can use the practice for these guys. Less so for LO but more so from Pau and JF.

MM,
Drew's MRI should have been done this morning so is there anything to report yet since it is late afternoon?

Justa - there's a post above from Brad Turner that explains Bynum will be out for at least a week.

MM,

Thanks I noticed this after I posted. Sorry about that.

Ron is such a trip. Mark, from your prospective, has the local media adopted an appreciation or even kinship for his personality?

Odom and Brown...LOL...the record is safe.

the math of laker is great

Easy option to get useful information as well as share good stuff with good ideas and concepts.
