Lakers enter Portland with a losing streak they would like to end

Portland wants to go streaking.

And no, the Trail Blazers aren't planning on going through the Quad and into the gymnasium.

Lately, the word "streak" has apparently just been a media talking point and a pre-game note. It was mentioned with such frequency this week that it caused Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy to release his frustrations about reporters bringing up the team's nine-game losing streak against the Lakers.

That streak finally ended for the Clippers on Wednesday in their 102-91 victory over the Lakers, who now have their own streak to break.

That's the eight-game losing streak the Lakers have at the Rose Garden entering tonight's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, a bad habit that formed since the Lakers last won in Portland on Feb. 23, 2005.

Lakers Coach Phil Jackson jokingly cited Portland's dreary climate as the reason for the depressing results, but then he seriously credited the Trail Blazers' focus on forcing others beyond Kobe Bryant to score (not a bad strategy, especially considering Jackson's admission that Bryant aggravated an injury to his right index finger in Tuesday's win against Houston).

"It’s not the building," Bryant said. "It’s the team."

Jackson said he views the Lakers' 6-1 home record wedged between those road losses as diluting the substance of this eight-game losing streak. Nonetheless, the streak has prompted him to alter the team's travel arrangements and pre-game routines in Portland, but to no avail.

"Obviously not," Jackson said, laughing when asked if he thinks the approach worked.

If the Lakers think they have health issues with Bryant's finger, Pau Gasol's left hamstring (he will not play tonight, but he traveled with the team) Lamar Odom recovering from intestinal flu symptoms and Ron Artest coming back to full form from the Christmas night concussion, well, they have company.

The Portland cast is well on its way toward passing medical school, with season-ending injuries to centers Greg Oden (fractured kneecap) and Joel Przybilla (ruptured right knee), current injuries to forwards Nicolas Batum (shoulder) and Travis Outlaw (fractured foot) as well as guard Rudy Fernandez (back). Even the professor -- Trail Blazers Coach Nate McMillan -- is recovering from a ruptured right Achilles' tendon.

Though Portland lost two of its last three games and Thursday's practice featured a shouting match between McMillan and point guard Andre Miller, the Trail Blazers had won seven of their last nine beforehand with a depleted lineup.

Jackson said he suspects those aforementioned injuries won't deter Portland from further solidifying its home-court advantage against the Lakers

That's why Lakers guard Derek Fisher tepidly acknowledged this game provides extra incentive.

"I guess so," Fisher said. "But it won't win us anything."

If the Clippers can end their losing streak to the Lakers, the Lakers can end their losing streak at the Rose Garden.

Finally, the BS bowl is over, oops forgot to include the C. Got confused by all names ending with "oy's". McCoy was down and McElroy won the series. Great to hear that Ingram has no "oy" at the end of his name and he beat out Muckelroy in the 4th.

Tonight, our 3 PG's will again be tested by the BlazersRoy in a Oyegon rainy weather. lol! I have got the feeling we will win this one despite odds playing in unfriendly "beat LA" copycat Portland fans. To this day, they could not forgive the Lakers victory in '00 WCF.

I read on LAT that Pau may be back this Sunday, wow that's heaven for all fans who are at the edge of their seat watching the Lakers w/o Pau. However, Luke will also be back by next week. Oh, we're back to purgatory in the 2nd unit, Pfunk, Chuck 23 and Yellowfever are back in force too.

So M/M, if you're running out of subject matters, just try mentioning the beast and Luke...you'll get back full day topic on the blog. haha!

Bad Kobe, Black Mamba 24's evil twin showed up against the Clippers.

When Kobe is a volume shooter (rather than efficient scorer) bad things happen. Lakers should play inside out. Get the ball to Bynum down low.

Would take Jordan Farmar over Ranjon Rondo or Jameer Nelson any day any time.

LO is playing very well.

Mamba 24,

Read your post yesterday about the gunslinger, I still could not justify his guns in the locker room, gun toting on gambling dispute and smarting it with tweets and rappin' at David, the entrepreneurial & mercurial Commissioner.

I have read before that he entrusted his guns to Wizzards security people because of a new born baby. Whoa, Whoa! the baby could use the gun on his parents or just an alibi to impose a player's martial law in the locker room.

These players are getting special privileges, highly paid individual, they are within the definition of public figures and therefore should not escape scrutiny and punishment. They are what they are, just a human flesh with special talents.

I know a former handyman who got into jail for 25 years for just brandishing a weapon in self defense. All of those involved in the fight were given sentences but it was unfortunate on his part because he got a strike three record in CA. The other two offenses possessing mj. In the case of Gilbert, he brought all his guns at his locker box which is part of his work place; used it as alleged, to intimidate a teammate; and lastly, make a mockery of justice onthe Commissioner, the Federal and local investigators and his respected counselor, Al Sharpton.

No one should be above the law.

That's why Lakers guard Derek Fisher tepidly acknowledged this game provides extra incentive.

"I guess so," Fisher said. "But it won't win us anything."

will Fisher's TEPID play change the results?

Its interesting ...

The more things change. The more they remain the same.

We had these *EXACT SAME* comments about D-Fish, J-Farmar & S-Brown
last year. Feel free to go back and look.

Y'all are talking about D-Fish and *NONE* of you are looking at the defensive
play of the C/PF. Are y'all tired of applying lumber to Bynum? Perhaps
you're happy because he scored some points and grabbed some rebounds.
Did anybody bother to take a look at the points scored in the paint?

If you want to tell the truth, then please do so. The truth is this:

- The Lakers aren't playing team defense the way they did last year.
- Neither Pau nor Lamar are playing with the determination that they did
last year.

Don't look at the statistics. Those are just numbers. They can be made to
tell you anything. Consider these things:

How many games has Pau played this year vs. last year?
Is Pau playing as physical this year as he was last year?
Our defensive coach is gone.
One of our quickest perimeter players, Ariza, is gone.
Instead of the rotation of: Pau/Bynum/LO we've had Bynum/LO/?

I went back and looked at some of the LA/Magic games from the finals.
I would suggest y'all do the same. It's very educational in terms of
how we're playing now vs. how we were playing when we won.

Let's propose that we do make one of these *dubious* switches at the pg
position. If I understand y'all correctly you want to:

switch D-Fish with J-Farmar? haven't y'all been complaining about him
forever? I seem to recall: he's got a bad attitude ....

or

switch D-Fish with S-Brown? You want to have a NOVICE run a
championship team over a 4-time champion? And when his decision
making process breaks down, as everybody's does, will you throw him
under the bus as well? When he has a 1-6 shooting night, like he had
a week ago ( or so), will you feed him to the crocodiles as well?

I said this the year we lost to the Celtics. I said this the year we beat the
Magic. I'll say it again this year. We will do as well as the C/PF combo
does. Yes, our bench will continue to be inconsistent. Yes, our pg situation
is not what we would like it to be. [ I would love to have D-Will or C-Paul or
A-Brooks or etc. ] However, I am fine with the combo of D-Fish/J-Farm/UPS.

The team chemistry will be better after the all-star game because Bynum
will stop thinking about being an all-star and start listening to the coaches
again. Pau should be healthy. The STUPID/SLOW/TALL lineup will be
put back on the shelf. [ it belongs in the circular file ] & we can focus on
winning the championship.

The time to re-consider the pg situation will be after the playoffs not in the
middle of a championship run. Why? Because the game slows down in the
playoffs! [ Jeez, how many times has this been said by every basketball
pundit and their 80 yr. old grandma? ]

Y'all should know this by now. What's the matter with y'all? Act like you've
got some sense! And if you don't, FAKE IT!!!

Good morning CRUE!!!!

GAME DAY BABY - YYYEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Ok - enough Fish-bashing. Have you all forgotten what this man has meant to this team - not only in times past but even today?? Do you really think we can start Shannon or Jordy and not have even more problems because of their youth and inexperience?? Come on guys - hobbit says you should either get some sense or fake it. I concur. Fish is a wily veteran who sees the bigger picture and ALWAYS comes through when it matters most. When (and if) Shannon and Jordy have a history and record similar to Fish's then let's talk. Otherwise - give the man the respect he deserves.

GO LAKERS!!!

Nothing but another title will suffice.

Unitl the Lakers get an all-star pg why not let Kobe run the point and put SuperFly in the 2 slot? If Fishwrap is good enough to start then he must be good enough to come off the bench.

The way PGs are blowing by Fish needs to be resolved if they ever expect to lock people up in the closing minutes of a game. I am surprised that JF or SB haven't been able to take the pg position from Fish. It is clear PJ will stick with Fish till the end with all they have gone thru ( 4-titles) but as a fan I sure would like to get some new blood at that position. Fish can always hit his clutch shots during the playoffs when it is needed but 82 games at point...no way! There are to many quick PG's in the NBA today and something tells me Rafer Alston is not going to be in the finals this year to make Fish look good.

BD

Mamba,
-
Add me to the “I believe in Fish” Bandwagon. Who would you rather have on the floor in a clutch situation on offense and defense? Fish, Farmar, or Brown. Seriously, I agree with Hobbitmage that the time to address the point guard situation will be after the season is over. Fish is the point guard I want with the ball in the playoffs this year. Then I want him to retire and become an assistant coach.
-
Tom

After the Clipper debackle time to take it out on Portland and end this long losing streak to them.

Portland's walking wounded

Sat at the end of their bench against the Clippers, and couldn't figure out how they were even keepin' the score close. Even Nate was hurt. Their trainer told me and he'd never seen or heard of anything like the injury epidemic they've had to deal with. If Blake is fully back from pneumonia, he could make it interesting cause he was on fire, literally, before he went into the hospital, but this should be the first W in too long a time at the Rose Garden.

Just hope we don't catch their injury bug up there.

*sighs*
I have to agree with Hobbitmage. DANG brother! AWESOME post. I admit (speaking just for myself) I am impatient with the mid season. I continually project what is happening now to be what will happen in the playoffs.

It's not easy to stand the tension of letting things develop and accepting that these guys are human and as a group will go through difficult periods. I think Fish WILL be fine for the playoffs. I think by the playoffs Bynum will be fine as either a co-starter with Gasol or off the bench.

Another thing about the playoffs we don't often talk about is that there are no back to back nights. There are no long road trips. There is decent spacing between the games and there are short break between each series (most of the time). That works in our favor for Fish to keep fresher legs and shows the real team you have. Not the team that can play when fatigued which favors a deep bench.

Rotations shorten in the playoffs and the game slows down as Hobbit mentioned. In closing.... It's not EASY being a Laker Fan. We want Perfection and in truth, we are used to it! I will TRY and remember this. Let's see how long I last THIS time! LOL

Good Morning MAMBA24!

Please add me to the "I Believe in Fish" bandwagon.

We have WAY too many armchair ballers/general managers/head coaches here on this blog. Everyone who hates on Fish should take a step back and understand that this doesn't work like their fantasy league teams. There are plenty of faults that we have as a team, and yet still have the best record in the league. The only thing that people should be pushing for is consistent effort and good health for our players.

It's like some people won't be satisfied with the roster until it looks like the one they came up with for NBA Live on their PS3 or something.

Sheesh.

DFISH I BELEIVE
Down with Fish, Fish must go, I hear this crap and I say HELL NO!
You say he’s old, you say he’s slow, he wears 4 Rings that’s what I know
By saying replace him it would seem, You think a bunch of fools are on the team
Do you think Phil would risk History, Do you think he’s blind & cannot see
Do you think Kobe would give him a pass, and not say “Ship his @zz
If they didn’t know Dfishs value, I’m kinda surprised you don’t know that too.
I won’t mention the .04 second shot, I won’t mention the 4 Rings Dfish got
I won’t mention the moral fiber of the man, Moralities not too popular I understand
When the team is shaky & falling apart, it’s Dfish & Kobe that give them the heart
When Kobe dosen’t know when enough is enough, Only Dfish can say stop that stuff
Sure there are point guards with flash, but do they play for Rings, no they play for Cash
If Dfish had not come back here to play, I believe Kobe would not be here today.
Fishers no fool and Fisher has Class, when it’s time he’ll gladly sit his@zz

(13) JOHNNYV - It's on us guys, not Fish. You can be disappointed in our options at PG (I know we are) but Fish is just trying to play a bigger role than he should be doing at this point in his career.
(14) CALIPHILOSOPHER - you have to be willing to sacrifice maybe some of your individual shine to make sure the team is accomplishing the team goals. Now, I know he's not shooting too well lately, but I think this is exactly why our team needs him. He understands the big picture.
(15) JEPHTE - as far as Derek, get used to seeing him in the starting until he retires. As long as we have Kobe in our team, he will always be alongside him. Kobe has that much trust and respect for him.
(16) EXHELODRVR - Fisher's calmness solidifies this team. Probably made the difference in two of the four title teams. To this point, relative to the other options on the team, he is still the best choice.
(17) CORNERJ - Phil continues to play Fisher because he still thinks Fish will deliver in those moments in the playoffs when he needs to deliver. So he keeps Fish in there now, and he keeps letting Fish know that he believes in Fish, precisely because he wants Fish to be ready to give him that 0.4 moment that will earn him Ring #11. So, go Fish go. Go Lakers go!
(18) DOUG - Leadership, total respect by the locker room, a warrior, and a PROVEN winner. give it a rest on dFish
(19) LAKERTOM - Who would you rather have on the floor in a clutch situation on offense and defense? Fish, Farmar, or Brown. Seriously, I agree with Hobbitmage that the time to address the point guard situation will be after the season is over. Fish is the point guard I want with the ball in the playoffs this year. Dfish has the heart of a champ and he's the guy we would all like to have take (wide open) shot in game 7 of the finals.... Who's questioning that? I know I aint...

However since everyone also seems to agree on the following:

- at almost 30 min a game he is being severely overplayed
- he is a horrible man to man defender (way below standards) and as a result is also killing our team D
- his outside shooting (though clutch when it has to be) in still inconsistent and also way below par but then again his well documented offensive woes is the least of his problems.. Its his porous defense that deserves more scrutiny

I also dare to question phil but if he would utilize dfish correctly and know when to pull the plug then we wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation...
It was probably at this same exact time last year where everyone was questioning ariza and his inexperience that he shoudnt start over luke... Luke was the glue guy afterall who understood the triangle better than anybody so no there was no way ariza deserved more playing time... How is our pg position that much different than our sf position? You still need to make good entry passes, understand spacing on the floor, and hit the open jumper... Well ariza did finally start (much to phils chagrin) and the rest was history

So again maybe if we can detach ourselves a little emotionally from all of dfish great past heroics and give shannon a chance then maybe we can begin to utilize the HUGE UPSIDE that shannon can bring with more minutes.

Say what you will but in the end defense wins championships.... Kobe gasol and company have been doing a great job in covering up for dfish inefficiencies but at some point somethings gotta give.

Hobs made a great point about Trevor Ariza, he did so much for this team that really went unnoticed, his speed for one thing, decent shot, and could play a few positions. Ron Artest has not been a good fit for this team so far, we need to acquire another Ariza type player, we are too slow a team now.

And another thing before I sign off.... dfish is the least of our problems... We've got another guy by the name of luke who's back in practice (after being out for 1 month with a little pinched nerve) and he's just about ready to start wreaking major havoc again

@Caliphilosopher : you said it. Fantasy bball is not really what makes a true living team a winner. I completely agree with all you've said.

@hobbitmage, as usual spot on opinion.

Not that I am expecting DFish gaters to slow down any soon, but at least I find comfort in those included in the Derek Bandwagon (cheek kiss again to' you, Mamba ***). It includes all the names I wanted to see in it.

Tonight game is another lil step that pushes us nearer to Playoffs. I am curious to' see how it will go.

Hope Kobe's finger heals soon.
Hope Pau gets back with us soon.
Hope Ron Ron get his full energy back.
Hope Drew wears his *Beasty* Boy outfit tonight.
Hope Lamar roars in the field again.

This looks like a prayer... Ouch. Cheesy, I know.

Hope Derek knows we love him.
I do from the core of my heart.

I have arrived in the Alps with my crew, but no matter what, we will see the game of course.

No chat for me though. Just a pre-game and/or a post game post here.

So, whatever Zaira you may see in the live chat, know it's not me. But never doubt I am watchin games live. I sacrifice my beauty sleep happily to the Lakers. It's only fair.

Go babies!!! Let's shut up Portland annoying ^Beat LA^ dreadful choruses!

And... Bench Mob: we need you all. LakerLand is demanding, sure, but all is determined from our love for the team. Which you are included within.

Make us proud (and a bit relieved? ;)). Scratch Blazers Off.

I’ll take a seat on the “I believe in Fish” bandwagon. I can’t add much more to what so many other believers have stated; just reiterate. He’s our glue. He contributes so much to the team off the court. Kobe needs his presence. Kobe trusts him. Done.

When he does retire I really hope that he stays with the Laker organization.

LakerLass

McMillan and Miller were in a shouting match for 30 MINUTES?!?!?!?

Wow. Plenty of goodvibes in that locker room.

Considering the injuries the Trailblazers have, can anyone really stop Andrew Bynum tonight (except, of course, Andrew Bynum himself, that's always a possibility)?

If Andrew has a big night tonight, we win. I think it's that simple. I expect Andrew to have a big night tonight because it's about time that we beat the Trailblazers in their house.

Their fans totally suck.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Why are the Trailblazers plagued by injuries?

Vitamin D deficiency.

Portland has even less sunlight than Cleveland.

Unless these guys are supplementing, they're not getting enough sunshine for their bodies to naturally produce vitamin D, thus their bones and connective tissue becomes more brittle and succeptible to injury.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

phred,
"Ron Artest has not been a good fit for this team so far"

Totally disagree - overall, the defense is better this season than last season.

yello,
"I also dare to question phil"

LOL - you point to last season as an example of why you should question Phil.

Just to clarify, that would be the same last season where people were saying the same things about Fisher, right?

And the same last season as the one they won the title in, right?

Freaking Lakers make the Trailblazers Obey, Show them who is King of the NBA
At home the Blazers think they’re King, Even though we sport the championship Ring
If you keep letting them win at home like this, one day their shot at our backs won’t miss
Respect their team and their game, But make them respect the legacy from whence you came
Let them know in the NBA who’s king, and then just for spite, Phil flash all 10 of your Rings
You can win by 20, you can win by one, I don’t care how you win just get the freaking job done.
Don’t be timid and don’t be shy, Rip their hearts out make their confidence die
Don’t even give them a second of hope, or you’ll find youself sliding down a slippery slope
Just like in boxing some matchups don’t work, The blazers base their hopes on this quirk.
From the first whistle, let it fly, make them obey and them make them cry
You’re the Freaking Champion Lakers is that true, No team should have such a streak on you
Dominate, Destroy and then Depart, Leave the Blazers gasping rip out their heart.
It sounds mean, yes this is true, you’re the Freakin Champion Lakers now do what you got to do

Derek Fisher's contributions to this team totally transcend measurable statistical output. Quite simply, his body and soul are a wholly integral and key component to the competitiveness and heart of our championship team - he is a Laker for life. Please feel free to add me to the "I believe in Fish" bandwagon.

As a matter of fact, I bringing out the Fisher jersey for tonight's game!GO LAKERS!!! Posted by: PsychedLakerGirl | January 08, 2010 at 10:09 AM

That's it game over. Blazers may as well quit right now. When Psyched gets the DFish jersey that's a guaranteed win.

Jon K - Interesting take on the Vitamin D deficiency theory. Interestingly enough, I talked to Clips center Chris Kaman a little more than a month ago. And he told me that was the a big reason why he was going through a mini slump.......
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-clippers-fyi8-2009dec08,0,5249805.story

LOL! there's a "I BELIEVE IN FISH – BANDWAGON"???

- WHAT??? exactly does that mean? Kwame Brown was a great guy but... he wasn't getting it done ON THE COURT. Yeah, Fisher's a calming influence on Kobe, fine, he could provide that calming influence COMING OFF THE BENCH for less than 20 minutes per game, that would calm quite a few other people down too, LOL!

- Fisher still doesn't know how to make a simple entry pass into the post, other teams are barely guarding him hoping/PRAYING he starts jacking up shots and on defense... ohhhhh, mama mia... the other team's players start drooling like an "acid for blood" alien when they see him in front of them. You can see them thinking, do I blow past Fisher to set up a layup for somebody else or do I blow past Fisher to try and get a cheap foul on Bynum?

- LOVE the guy, but the Clipper guards were simply too fast for him. Willpower doesn't overcome SPEED. Craftiness can overcome young, undisciplined speed but against a veteran who knows Fisher's best defensive effort is the CHARGE... it's BRUTAL...

The TRUTH HURTS bandwagon:

01) PHRED- OWNER - oh yeah, d fish. No, i wouldn't bench him. He is definitely contributing to this team.
--FISH DOES NOT HAVE TO BE BENCHED, BUT THERE'S NO REASON HE SHOULD BE PLAYING MORE THAN 15-20 MINUTES A GAME, ESPECIALLY WITH THE IMPROVED PLAY OF SHANNON, SASHA AND FARMAR.

(02) JON K – DRIVER - Does anyone know that Derek Fisher has the highest cumulative three-point percentage in NBA Finals history? Cause he does. 52.2%. When it really matters, Derek Fisher has always shown up. This guy is a fricken warrior and has ALWAYS (ALWAYS!!!!) come through when the chips are down. He's a leader who makes his teammates better and represents the absolute best in Laker heritage.
--LOOK, NOBODY IS QUESTIONING FISH'S ABILITY TO MAKE WIDE OPEN SHOTS. THE 52% IS A RESULT OF SHAQ AND KOBE'S ABILITY TO DRAW ATTENTION AND CREATE OPEN OPPORTUNITIES FOR FISH. IT'S EVERYTHING ELSE IN HIS GAME THAT IS THE PROBLEM. IT'S FISH'S INABILITY TO STAY WITHIN HIMSELF AND CONTINUALLY FORCE THE ISSUE. HOW DOES MESSING UP FAST BREAKS, FORCING SHOTS, MAKING BENO UDRIH LOOK LIKE CHRIS PAUL, AND MAKING POOR DECISIONS MAKE HIS TEAMMATES BETTER?

(03) EDWIN GUECO - D' Fish is OK, a good man and has been a good Laker that delivered Championship from '00 to '08.
--AGREED

(05) MAMBA24 – Dfish is the man
(06) TOM - Derek is undoubtedly one of the leaders on the team.
--DFISH IS THE MAN AS ONE OF THE LEADERS OF THE TEAM, BUT HE IS NOT THE MAN WHEN HE IS ON THE COURT.

(07) DAVE M. - Fish will come out of his shooting slump in due time and he'll make a difference in big-time games. He has the confidence of the best player in the league and the winningest coach.
--FISH HAS BEEN IN A SLUMP FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. I ADMIRE YOUR PATIENCE DAVE M.

(08) LIVE RUGBY - He may not be the most consistent player during the regular season, but he has alway's stepped up big time in the playoffs and knocked down crucial shots I say continue things as is
(09) HECTORARTM - Everyone relax! Derek is fine and he will contribute big in a play off series.
--FISH'S 2 CLUTCH PLAYS AGAINST ORLANDO DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR THE OTHER 2,000 UNCLUTCH PLAYS. IF FISH DID NOT CONTRIBUTE SO HEAVILY IN GETTING BEHIND TO ORLANDO, WE WOULD NEVER HAVE NEEDED HIS CLUTCH SHOTS TO BEGIN WITH.

(10) BOB - All you need from fish is his leadership and for him to handle the ball and take clutch shots, which he is still doing. You don't need numbers from him. You just need his glue.
--YES, WE DO NEED HIS LEADERSHIP, GLUE AND CLUTCH SHOTS, BUT WE DO NOT NEED HIS BALL-HANDLING IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM.

(11) ZairaAmaterasu - His heart and mind are totally devoted to the cause and whomever attacks him on the personal side should always think twice. This man is a Laker Great. Respect to him (not blind devotion, just respect) is something this guy has gained MAJORLY from us all.
--ANY CRITICISM OF FISH IS BASED 100% ON HIS PERFORMANCE ON THE COURT, IT'S NOT PERSONAL IN ANY WAY.

(12)HOBBITMAGE - The time to re-consider the pg situation will be after the playoffs not in the middle of a championship run.
--GOOD THING MANAGEMENT DIDN'T HAVE THIS SILLY PHILOSOPHY WHEN THEY MADE A TRADE FOR PAU. CAN YOU IMAGINE KUPCHACK SAYING, "LET'S NOT TRADE KWAME FOR PAU GASOL MIDSEASON, LET'S ADDRESS OUR CENTER SITUATION AFTER THE PLAYOFFS". GREAT LOGIC.

(12)HOBBITMAGE - Why? Because the game slows down in the playoffs! [Y'all should know this by now. What's the matter with y'all? Act like you've got some sense! And if you don't, FAKE IT!!!
--JUST BECAUSE THE GAME SLOWS DOWN IN THE PLAYOFFS DOES NOT MEAN SPEED DOES NOT MATTER. ASIDE FROM FISH'S 2 CLUTCH SHOTS, HE WAS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL IN THE PLAYOFFS WHEN THE GAME SLOWED DOWN.

I must say in your brief Blog takeover, if this is the kind of laser objective reporting we can expect........then I look forward to your stay.

Outstanding job on taking the pulse of the blog community, questioning Dfish and then reporting back to us objectively allowing us to arrive at our conclusions based on the facts.

Yellofever,

"I also dare to question phil but if he would utilize dfish correctly and know when to pull the plug then we wouldn't be sitting here having this conversation..."

You hit it right on the head buddy! We can no longer blame Fish at this point, Fish is exactly what we thought he was.............The man in question should be Phil Jackson. Phil Jackson in my opinion is one of the worst x's an o's coach in the business........remember it took this man 9 years....count them 9 YEARS......... to begin implementing defensive strategies utilyzing the zone defensive rules adopted in the 2000 season.

I could go deeper into the psychological profile of Phil Jackson, his arrogance and false bravado and how it affects his coaching and decision making......but I will spare you....as you so eloquently stated in your above post and what most bloggers should realize about Phil is......LAST YEAR THIS TIME PHIL WAS STARTING LUKE WALTON AHEAD OF TREVOR ARIZA!!!!!!!

Ironically it was a trip to Portland and a subseqent blowout that prompted Luke to REMOVE HIMSELF from the starting lineup......BECAUSE PHIL REFUSED TO DO IT FOR GOD KNOWS WHAT REASONS.

We head to Portland tonight........... just sayin'

Good Morning Charles...Good Morning Everyone...

game day in the I never promised you a Rose Garden...all I can say is....wait for it...steady...GOT STREAK?

as far as Gibert Arenas and his ban--what a joke--it probably will indeed be temporary, as others have said, the NBA has never had a lifetime ban--everybody gets a second or third or fourth chance seemingly---

can you say Roy Tarpley? Can you say Shawn Kemp? Can you say Kermit Washington? Can you say Ron Artest? Can you say Latrell Spreewell?---and the list is somewhat endless (i.e. Portland Jailblazers of old) indeed, as it were...

and Spreewell (was a cast memeber in the Preditor movies) especially--the dude chokes (!) his boss not once, but twice (once wasn't enough apparently--had to go back fer more) and all is forgiven and is happily reinstated---how many of us would get rehired if we choked our boss (twice)?

And the same can be said about Artest as well and Kermit Washington... so Arenas will be back sooner than later...even if he would have actually shot someone he would get another go round I suspect...

and that's a telling and sad comment on our society today...we have to be so PC that nobody really is accountable or gets punished for anything, it's always someone else's fault---in this case Arenas' kid who can apparently handle guns at an early age...

but enough soapboxin'---I actually couldn't care less if Agent zero brains plays again or not, just hoping there's no more shanagins ("next guy that says shanagins gets pistol whipped") by dudes wearing Purple and Gold...

"I'm coming down fast but i'm miles above you.."

"and it went wherever I did go"

AS ALWAYS, AS EVER, YET ANOTHER GREAT DAY (AND CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON) TO BE A LAKER FAN !!!

GO LAKERS !!!

pfunk36 - Thanks man for the feedback. It's been a blast so far and it's not even been a week. I'll continue to try to find new wrinkles to make this Lakers blog awesome

Excellent posts from long time Lakers fans
(I've been a Lakerfan 1981)

Why not put Farmar in with the starting unit and put fish in with the 2nd unit when Pau gets back. Why?

1. Farmar learns to live in the triangle - he better hurry up and learn...what is fish has an injury? Farmer needs to learn how to succeed in the triangle not only in the drive and dish uptempo world

...btw what is wrong with driving and dishing to our bigs? Other than KOBE someone else needs to collect assists. Lakers always lose when assists are <20.

2. Fish can greatly stabilize the 2nd team. Especially if he is paired with Bynum. His entry passes and lobs can be the primary offense threat on the 2nd team (akin to Brian Shaw constant passes into Shaq).

3. Fish can go another entire season of shooting 1-4 or 2 for 5 with 2 assists. Nobody ever complains about that. Farmar can at least match that production if put in with the 1st team. He might defend at least as well.

4. While I believe in Shannon being the better long term solution at the PG, keep him as the 7th or 8th player coming in with high energy for 18-20 min (taking minutes from Sasha)

I love fish, but he can stabilize the team by increasing the play of the 2nd team. Sure keep Fish in for the last 5 min of the 2nd and 4th quarters (or if some muscle is needed). Farmar needs the chance to learn passing and moving within the triangle. The starters can make Farmarbetter. Fish can make the 2nd team better.

Your thoughts?

Awww Mamba... You cute :)
that is one of the loveliest nicknames I have ever been named with. Really, really sweet.

You always make me blush. You're a gentleman and a poet.

I promise to keep takin care of my sleep better. But nothing is "too much" when it's up to Lakers (or Milan AC) to me ;)

Save the Fish. Beat the Blazers. Share the Ball. Nuff said.

PROPS to LakerGirl for taking a Dfish jersey into a hostile arena !!

You go Girl !!

(and watch your back, Portland fans are somewhat *unhinged*)

Vegas line - Lakers -4 (was -3 last nite). This game is an excellent test of Laker road mettle - in very hostile arena where they have lost more than won over the past few years. WHen I wake up and there is a challenging Laker game scheduled, I am PUMPED UP! Portland, injuries or not, plays lakers hard always and the fans up there go nuts for their team v. Lakers.

Doug

and Spreewell (was a cast memeber in the Preditor movies) especially--the dude chokes (!) his boss not once, but twice (once wasn't enough apparently--had to go back fer more) and all is forgiven and is happily reinstated---how many of us would get rehired if we choked our boss (twice)? Posted by: Floyd | January 08, 2010 at 11:26 AM

FLOYD AS ALWAYS, AS EVER, YET ANOTHER GREAT DAY TO SEE A POST FROM YOU. AND...OUT FREAKIN STANDING BROTHER!!!

LAKER TRUTH - you countered my "patience" with the assertion that Fish has been in a slump for a year and a half. You're talking about just the playing seasons, right? Because you're obviously not saying that he was in a slump over summer vacation? So, by your count, he's been in a non-stop slump all of this season (which has been two months so far), all of the 2008-2009 season (another 8 months) and the last six months of the 2007-2008 season? Or, am I being too figurative - did you really just mean all of this season and all of last? Whichever is the case, it just seems like a really odd thing. I mean, why would Jackson start a guy for well over 100 games in a row if he had been in a slump the entire time? That's just crazy. I'm going to have to think about this though... because maybe you're on to something. Maybe there's some diabolical conspiracy going on... maybe the entire team, coaching staff, management and the players association (which Fish is president of) is in league to undermine their own efforts - trying to sabotage the Lakers seasons year after year by playing a guy that is going through a never-ending drought. Whoh. They should make a movie about it. Whoever "they" are. I'm getting scared now.

dave m,

"LAKER TRUTH" is one of those guys who thinks that reality is fantasy sports.

It's not.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!
