Lakers not expecting Artest to play

Artest Lakers forward Ron Artest had a short on-court workout with the team at practice today, but Coach Phil Jackson listed him as "very doubtful" for Friday night's game against the Sacramento Kings at Staples Center.

Artest, still recovering from a concussion that he suffered on Christmas night, experienced some dizziness during practice.

He saw a neurologist again today and will see him again Friday.

Meanwhile, some of the Lakers' players said they have missed Artest's intensity on defense in the last three consecutive games he has missed.

"He gets his hands on a lot of balls and he's always at the glass offensively rebounding, getting a second and third possession," Kobe Bryant said about Artest. "We miss all that stuff."

While Artest has been out, Jackson has started a big frontcourt of 7-footers Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol and 6-10 Lamar Odom.

Jackson hasn't liked the way they have played, saying they start the game slow.

Jackson said he might not start the big lineup Friday. He said he would sleep on it and decide before the game.

First things first,

I wanna send a shout out to the Laker Blog Fam and wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!

Next, We really miss all that Artest brings to the court but he shouldn't rush it, he needs to concentrate on getting healthy. His boys just got to hold it down until he's back.

If Phil doesn't start Lamar, who's he going to start at SF? Adam Morrison?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

Happy New Year Year Lakers Blog!

Time to count our blessings and be grateful for the privilege of watching the premier team in all of the Association.

Here's to mixing it up throughout the season on our way to the Finals. So for now I must say goodbye... time to head out for a festive evening in "The District," here in the land of the "Wintery Mix."

In closing... What do we witness? Greatness!

Who do we bow to? Mamba!

New blog survey:

What Really Happened to Artest?

1) He tripped over Christmas presents and had a severe concussion

2) He went snowboarding with Vlade Radmonovic for Christmas

3) Elin Nordregen misstook him for Tiger Woods and took a nine iron to his head

4) Lamar wanted to start and gave Ron Ron enough candy in his stocking to cause a sugar induced coma

5) I don't know, but the official stroy is total bull$#(^

I'll go for #5.

Tom Daniels

Others have mentioned this but I want to chime in:
Thank you LA Times for helping to keep our Blog going. Thank You Broderick Turner, Mike Bresnahan, and all the other writers/contributors for keeping the Blogging going. I look forward to the New Blog Hosts (I understand there will be an announcement after the 1st?) but I want to give thanks that we are still here!
Thank you for a great 2009 on the blog. Happy New Year to all the members/bloggers here on the board. John K, CornerJ, Mamba, the hottie Zaira (Ms "Z), phred, exhelo, Rick Friedman, #4, Justanothermambafan, Caliphilosopher, KobeBlitz, and yes, Laker Tom (hope you have fully recovered from your cold/flu). For anyone I missed, Happy New Year to you too!

Tom Daniels.........

I pick 5 but partly 4 as well....

More than 1 person had to have seen what happened or was involved...

Tom Daniels,

What I don't understand about Ron's story is that he fell down a flight of stairs after tripping over a Christmas present...

Okay. Kind of makes sense. I don't know what a box is doing right at the top of the stairs, but okay. But it sounds like he's inside, right? You're not storing your Christmas presents outside, right?

But then he fell down the stairs and hit his head on CONCRETE.

How many people have concrete floors inside their house, particularly in Beverly Hills? That doesn't make sense.

Am I the only one this doesn't make sense to?

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

Laker Nation,

I want to wish each and every one of you a most glorious, happy, successful and joyous New Year.

I think for many of us 2009 was kind of a tough year and I'm glad it's over. Time to move onto better things.

I hope everyone has a fun night tonight and I want to thank you for building this blogmunity together. It truly is nice to be able to (electronically) go some place that is filled with fellow Lakeraholics.

We've got a lot to look forward to in 2010.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Hey Jon K,

I say if PJ don't start LO then move Kobe to 3 and start Shannon Brown at 2 guard.

jon k,

you wrote: If Phil doesn't start Lamar, who's he going to start at SF? Adam Morrison?

my response:

1st. Happy New Year!
2nd. Kobe at SF. Brown at SG.

KB Blitz,

you wrote: Have to disagree with you. Bynum in my opinion will still be thinking about something that only he believes he is (like already a dominant center) and still have lethargic play with a few flashes of good games.

How do I base this? Try 06-07 when after having a very solid 10-10 January his play went down so badly that Phil has to put a man named KWAMAY BROWN back as a starter not to mention KWAMAY was still slow because of his ankle injury.

my response.

1st. Happy New Year.
2nd. Rugged.! [ *chuckle* ]
3rd. You're talking about 3 years ago. I'm going to give him the benefit of the
doubt and argue that playing in the Finals, albeit as a hobbled scrub, &
2 additional years of tutoring from Kareem & Kurt have made him a
better player.

you also wrote: Kidding aside Bynum still has to prove he can sustain his play in not only a full 82 game season but also in the playoffs as well. I'm looking forward to Jan when past Jan has been his good month. Also looking forward to some really good games production wise from him this month and will be cheering when he does.

Good to have a Mr. Big Mouth Bynum to think about eh Hobbit?

my response: I agree with you about what's left to prove. Don't we have to
look forward to Jan because Dec. sucked? He can't *really* play any worse
can he?

The 1st two weeks in Jan. will tell us what we want to know.

- home games vs. sac, dallas, hou
- away games vs. portland, san antonio, dallas.

so he'll be working against dampier, hawes, aldridge, & duncan.

Yes, it's nice to have a Bynum to think about.

I hope Artest recovers soon.

Neurologic injuries like concussions can take a long time to heal.

The Lakers are obviously thin at the small forward position.

The Lakers should keep Lamar on the bench. They can start Kobe at small forward and have The Machine at shooting guard. This will give the Lakers some size still, without changing Farmar's or Brown's roles.

Unfortunately, Adam Morrison can't play defense and is too small for many of the large small forwards - such as Lebron.

I wish Luke Walton was fit and can play. If anything, we miss Luke because he helps the offense flow more easily and helps the other players play like a team. Without him, the bench has been doing too much one-on-one play.

Lamar is best at power-forward. He can't start with Pau and Andrew because this makes the team much slower. If Lamar was more aggressive, then this trio can work. But Lamar isn't having a good year. Perhaps being married is causing him to lose his edge. His wife needs to whip him into shape.

Andrew is still lost. He is just not aggressive enough on offense. He doesn't move around without the ball. He doesn't body up on the other big. He doesn't go after rebounds - waiting for them instead. He just stands around. WTH. Move your big butt, Andrew.

I think he should start Sasha, and move Kobe to the SF position. Gotta give the bench an opportunity to play.

They don't need Artest to defeat Sac (especially with Tyreke Evans likely out) but could sure use him for Dallas.

I think Dallas is the second-best in the West right now. They dispatched the Cavs with ease 2 weeks ago and their first visit to Staples was the first "uh-oh" of this season.

Tom D, those are all good options.

I think the real pseudo-existential question is:

If a Ron-Ron falls down a flight of stairs and nobody witnesses it, did it really happen? Like you, I think the question and answer to that is a bunch of bull chips.

Happy new year blog fam! Thanks to the LA Times for keeping this going; its a great thing to have.

And let me just say, in our current writer's defense, they've done well at a job that they may not be accustomed to doing. They are professional writers, not professional bloggers. The Kam bros early stuff wasn't as witty or as refined as it had gotten, and lets face it, there were 2 of them doing a 1 man job!

Best of luck to all, and let's hope 2010 has brighter prospects for everyone one.

@Tom Daniels

I agree. Being a athlete professional and a good one at that is hard to believe you just "fell over some boxes" and NBA athlete has more coridination then that.

But maybe Ron ron doesnt know either? Maybe he is just assuming he fell over some boxes? I mean he doesn't remember...knowing Ron ron he probaly got down with an enemy from the hood and they bashed him in good.

Anyways, I wouldnt mind seeing Josh powell get more minutes. He's way more efficient then the others. He shoots OK, can sometimes shoot a 3 and grabs a decent amount of rebounds.

"I mean he doesn't remember...knowing Ron ron he probably got down with an enemy from the hood and they bashed him in good. "

Wait a sec... Where was Paul Pierce after the XMas day game? And all of the sudden he's out with a "knee infection"? Has anyone actually seen this? How do we know he doesn't have a RonRon-shaped bruise on his chest?

Was there a post-Xmas hood smackdown in Inglewood that we don't know about?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Happy New Years Lakers Fam!

Please be safe, and start the New year out right!

Ron getting back is far more important than the crap about his "story". It may be important if a Celtic fan played an April fool joke in December. As for Bynum he needs to go after the ball and be alert at both ends. LO, SB & JF ought to be driving to the basket far more than taking 3-pointers. That would also put them in a position to draw more fouls and rebound the way little Rondo of the Celtics does. Bynum's focus should be Rebound, Rebound and block shots, as the last line of defense, rather than fouling the guards! Aggressive bodying up is needed against the bigs only!! Key to defense is getting more possessions!! Bynum needs to dunk more on offense and not bring the ball down to be stripped. Watch Perkins of Celtics. Phil should think of playing Kobe or Josh at small forward with Ron out, and Sasha or Shanon at 2-Guard. SB ought to be able to play 30 min. and overelap with Farmar.
Bigs should get more shots based on shooting percentage. Kobe would be around 20 shots, if the others would stop passing up open looks and shoveling the ball to Kobe as the clock runs out. With Cleaveland or Celtic guards/bench Kobe would average 12 assists, 30 points and 8 rebounds!

A Note out to Jon K:
With as much energy we have all spent talking about Bynum this month AND with Bynum traditionally having good January's.... may I ask about a Bio-Chrono reading for Bynum for January?
In truth, I ask not really understanding the term, but I have enjoyed your insights in the past concerning Bio-Chrono. I Googled the term and most of what I found were your posts in this blog! LOL.
Here is a similar term in Wikipedia:
Chronobiology is a field of science that examines periodic (cyclic) phenomena in living organisms and their adaptation to solar and lunar related rhythms.[1] These cycles are known as biological rhythms. "Chrono" pertains to time and "biology" pertains to the study, or science, of life. The related terms chronomics and chronome have been used in some cases to describe either the molecular mechanisms involved in chronobiological phenomena or the more quantitative aspects of chronobiology, particularly where comparison of cycles between organisms is required.
GEEEEEZ! Not sure I can grasp that.

Post by Yellowfever:
"which OFTEN-INJURED laker(s) would you like to NEVER see in a laker uniform again?"
LOL, I was cracking up! Man, you have been on this guy forEVER! You're relentless! I bet even Luke knows about you! Come on now, Luke's alright, in short spurts and as a fill in. He's a back-up and he's overpaid. We have worse; see Sasha.

two things; 1) Luke - enough already with the "pinched nerve" in your back...time to man up, suck it up, and get your a$$ back out there - the team needs you. 2) this team needs a Thriller interpreter to make sense of what this guy says when pressed to explain things in his own words. I swear, that halftime press conference of his was more performance art than explanation.

Kobe would start at forward with Sasha and Brown playing SG. Both have been showing some good defense (for the bench at least). Having the three 7 footers they are just slow and I'm scarred one will get injured tripping over the others.

I don't know what would work best, but I bet the Laker Blog Crew never missed Luke Walton so much???!!!

Get well soon Ron and Luke. We need you.

Happy New Years to all! As for Ron's mishap, I'm going to go with.. that stupid concrete walkway jumped up and whacked him on the back of the head. Could have happened that way.

i wish FAIR-WEATHER fans Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough bashing of Bynum, I would like to see any of these posters play better. Bynum had huge numbers while Gasol was out and tailed off once Gasol returned so there is a connection.

Name of the game is to win and winning has been the Lakers M.O. Last game had Sasha & Farmar playing 4th quarter was a shock to both players as it was to fans posting on ESPN or Lakers Blog. Give credit to Phil Jackson for his belief in the young players which by the way is needed to help advance throughout the season and deep into the NBA Finals. Lakers will be playing in June.

Get well Ron Artest, we need both Walton and Artest to recover from their respective injuries. Anyone know the timetable on Cool Hand Luke's return to parquet floor?

Happy New Year Lakers Faithful!

"Ron Ron shaped bruise on Paul Pierce"

Either way, they screwed both our teams up so we are on the same path as rivals.

I think Phil should start either Sasha or Shannon. We really need to stretch the defense with the threat of a 3 ball so defenders can't collapse on Andrew and Pau and that what Artest does when he starts aside from the defense he provides. I think Kobe is strong enough to play the 3 until Aetest comes back. I know a lot of you are not enamored with Sasha but he is shooting pretty well from the 3 point line although his 2 point percentage us lower. LO does A much better job rebounding the ball when Andrew comes out. What do you guys think? I lime Ammo too but he does not look confident out there and although Sasha looks over confident at least he really wants to play and not pass up a shot.

I wonder who Phil is going to start in the place of Ron Artest? Looking at the depth chart, there is only one option at SF, and that's Adam Morrison. I for one don't think Morrison should start.

I suggest moving Kobe to SF and starting Shannon Brown at SG to alleviate this "slow start" thing the Lakers have been dealing with lately.

What happened to the K-Brothers?

mike t.

"Chronobiology is a field of science that examines periodic (cyclic) phenomena in living organisms and their adaptation to solar and lunar related rhythms."

Yep. As well as patterns as related to galactic cycles. But, yeah, cycles of time influence the patterns of life and how living things perceive things of relative importance, on both the level of instinctual (cellular) biological function and intelligent choice.

As was actually thinking about Bynum's Bio-Chrono reading (as I was taught to call it by the scientists who taught me the system) recently. His mental type is probably what is being influenced.

It's late here, but I'll give it some thought and write something up tomorrow.

In short summary, it is important for Bynum's effecient functioning for him to UNDERSTAND his role, especially from the perspective of the coach. Bynum has his own understanding of what he thinks his role should be, but if the coach thinks it should be something else, it is not functional for Bynum to simply be told, "You need to focus on defense" when he thinks he should be a scorer.

I know it would be NICE if that works for Bynum, but it simply doesn't. It's not a matter of whether or not it SHOULD work. It doesn't.

Bynum needs to be explained IN DETAIL the logic of WHY he needs to focus on defense when he thinks he should be a scorer. It is not a matter of him being petulent, even selfish, it's just if he thinks it should be one way, someone needs to explain to him with superior logic WHY another way is better.

When that is effectively communicated to him IN DETAIL, he'll simply be, "Okay. I get it." And fall in line.

That's just the way his type words.

The type can be frustratings for some other types (like my own) who are more comfortable with people simply accepting what they're told from someone of superior knowledge/experience, trusting what they're told and doing it.

Bynum needs things constantly explained to him and he also needs it to be communicated in such a way that he is made to feel that his understanding of this alternative strategy is EXCEEDINGLY important. They need to feel important in their social group. It's integral to their wellbeing.

So, it's something like that.

I imagine that the root of the problem is Phil Jackson who is known to be somewhat passive-aggressive in his communications. That will only cause damage with Andrew Bynum. He needs to have someone sit down with him and explain things in detail and be patient with his questions and need for clarity. Sure, it's annoying, but it's what's necessary for Andrew to be his best.

So, hopefully someone in the Lakers organization will fulfill that role. This type likes to be mentored and I'm sure the absence of Kurt Rambis and Kareem isn't helping things out much.

My suggestion? Bring Mychal Thompson to some practices to hang out with and talk with Andrew. Mychal could play defense and "gets it."

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

"I was cracking up! Man, you have been on this guy forEVER! You're relentless!"

Dude, yellowfever rips on everyone relentlessly except Kobe Bryant and Sun Yue. I find it to be a little weird. I'm not sure how someone who is such a fan can be so consistently negative against the majority of our Lakers roster. It doesn't make sense to me.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakes Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

"I say if PJ don't start LO then move Kobe to 3 and start Shannon Brown at 2 guard."

It's just crazy enough to work.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

Happy New Year to my fellow Laker holics!!

Again and once more, big cheer and massive "Happy 2010!!!!" shout out to all of you fellow and amazing bloggers peripatetics (that I have no idea if it's a correct translation: I meant the people who were attending Aristotile's ancient Liceum school in ancient Greece ;)).

I thank you for years of lurking enjoyment and even more for having been so sweet and kind allowing me in and posting along all of your well documented greatness, that is so inspiring to me.

Now after the good...

Not that I wasn't expecting this "doubt" surrounding Artest's really unlikely appearance tonight, but still, the expectation of it doesn't sweeten at all the bitter pill in its swallowing down.

Without Ron Ron, our team is weaker.
As simple as that.
The work he provides, also as a menacing presence to other teams, and not merely as what his statistic may tell, is huge and all of our players are gonna be affetced by its prolongued absence.

Then I hope (I am actually sure of this) he won't be mentally affected in his game by this struggling right now.
Ron Ron's undeniable energy and enthusiastic crazyness is a force on court. To be tamed in that factor due to "dizzyness" and some second thought that is not a strategically excercized convey of liveliness would be a shame for us and our renewing approach to the Road To Greatness Of 2010.

This is a MAJOR bummer.

I hope this unfortunate circumstance (and don't wanna dig in the dirt to better define it) will at least see some side good surfacing.

PJ is testing various scenarios for fullfillimg Ron Ron's missing, and if that includes give some of the bench guys their chances to fit in the team again, stopping being zombies with fat paychecks, I am all for it.

All I care about is winning and to win all fellas in the team gotta be effective part of the above mentioned Road To Greatness.

So guys... start doin' your 2010 work.

Believe me: even your harshes critics in this blog will bow at you when you contribute to another ring, cos all we care for, and all you must care for, is exactly another piece of jewelry adorning your personal, and our fan personal, history.

Let's do it, let's do it... let's do it all again... ;)

Tom D,

Definitely option #5 and I would add another one:

#6 a cut on his elbow, lost memory and a few bruises leads to think he had a car accident

Happy New Year and the very best to you and yours families!

Without big Ron isnt this the same team that won the Finals last year, except missing Trevor. So if now Trevor was still with the team and Ron was still with Houston, and Trevor was the one now not playing, would there be all this noise?
I mean, if Trevor got injured for some games last year, would it have made that big of a difference? Explain.

Happy New Year!

What a story to wake up to: Javaris Crittenton and Gilbert Arenas drawing guns on each other over an alleged gambling debt.

In their own locker room. Say it isn't so! And some who post here think RonRon is crazy? Puh-leeeze. Anybody still think it was a mistake to trade J-Crit away and that Agent Zero should become a Laker?

Not only is Mitch a genius, he's clairvoyant.

Enough ranting for New Year's morning. Time to administer some hair of the dog for my hangover. Hope you partied well and partied safe. Go Lakers!

Happy New Year, Laker Nation! Here are my wishes for my favorite posters here:

Mamba24 (our All-time, All-star Bandwagon Leader): a bugle ringtone that automatically plays on our computers to let us know he's just posted a Roll Call and we need to report for duty.

Laker Tom: not just a Word Processor, but a Word Cuisinart. The man is like a Greek writer/philosopher who just happens to drop in from Olympus with multi-page epics to enlighten us about the Lakers. Seriously, when Laker Tom speaks, the skies part, a bolt of lightning, and Kaboom! there's his post.

Jon K.: a Pastebot to autopost his trademarked signature ("What do we play for? RINGS!!! etc.) .

Zaira (our new, resident nubile Laker Goddess, not just Laker Girl, from across the pond): a Time Machine or Teleporter so she can watch her beloved Lakers at a decent time. Babe, seriously, 3am or 4am is a ridiculous time to watch the Mavs kick our hineys.

sonny belfast (our All-time, All-star favorite troll): an autographed picture of Robert Horry and an MP3 of the song "Robert Horry" memorializing the last-second 3 that sank the dagger into sonny's beloved Sacramento Kings in the playoffs. Dude, you don't come here often any more, but whenever you do, it brings back that Robert Horry moment. We miss you.

#4: an actual name, because you're not just a number to us.

hobbitimage: a wife, so you'll have someone besides us to argue with.

Tsphere: a guest tryout at Comedy Central. Dude, that piece on Kobe as "the most interesting man in the world" was an instant classic. Newby though you are, that automatically got you past the rope line here at the Laker Nation pantheon and verbal disco.

The Green Asterhole (that is how you spell your name, right?): a non-ending video loop of Kobe draining a 3 from 30 ft with Rondo, KG, and Paul Pierce (in a wheel chair) guarding him, and the clock showing 0:00.

Happy New Year, everybody!!!

This is an epic moment in

Celebrity PR spin that we should not let pass by.

Ron's pioneered the "I don't remember" defense. Worthy of a former defensive player of the year, crisis managers must admire it's simple perfection.

"I don't remember" and "I have no recollection of those events" has been a tried and true political crisis management technique but celebs haven't thought to use it much but Ron has laid the groundwork.

He "texted Kobe" saying he can't remember anything. Brilliant. He remembered who Kobe was but he wasn't sure about his wife. Think how the Charlie Sheens of this world could benefit. "I don't remember" stops the questions, focuses attention on the "next", on the "how you feelin' now". Easy questions to answer.

Can't predict, but someday soon, some "A" lister is gonna pull this one out again. It's like war. It might not be "the" answer but it's an answer.

JohnnyV -

Thanks for the shout out. :-)

I had to work at a bar last night, and I must tell you that it turned ugly late. I'll see if I can catch the game on TV when I'm working tonight.

I hope everyone had a safe NYE and is starting this year off right.

Well, except for all the Luke hatred....

Holy smokes. The wild west goes east:

From the NY Post:

NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas and his Washing ton Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the team's locker room during a Christmas Eve dispute over a gambling debt, The Post has learned.

League sources say the pistol-packing point guards had heat ers at the ready inside the Verizon Center, the Washington, DC, home of the Wizards -- whose name was changed from the Bullets over gun- vi olence concerns.

It was the three- time all-star Arenas, 27, who went for his gun first, sources said, draw ing on the 22-year-old Crit tenton, who quickly brandished a firearm as well.

FREEZE! Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas (above) and Javaris Crittenton had allegedly been arguing over a bet debt when they drew guns. It was not clear whether other teammates saw the shocking standoff, which happened on a practice day.

The duel in DC -- unprecedented in sports history -- was sparked when Critten ton became enraged at the vet eran guard for refusing to make good on a gambling debt, a source said.

"I'm not your punk!" Crittenton shouted at Arenas, according to a league source close to the Wizards.

That prompted Arenas to draw on Crittenton, who then also grabbed for a gun, league security sources said.

A playground pal of Crittenton's from Atlanta, Kendrick "Bookie Ball" Long, confirmed the locker-room standoff and said he learned of it directly from the third-year player out of Georgia Tech.

"He [Arenas] was f- - -ing with him; he [Crittenton] was just defending himself!" declared Long, who said the dispute was over money but would not elaborate.

The Wizards announced on Christmas Day that Arenas had admitted to bringing guns to the locker room and had turned them over to team security. No ammunition was handed over.

The NBA club's statement didn't disclose how Wizards officials discovered that Arenas was storing weapons on the job.

But a league source said Arenas' weapons were uncovered only after the confrontation with Crittenton.

Wizards General Manager Ernie Grunfeld declined to comment. "It's in the hands of [Washington] authorities," said Grunfeld, a former star Knicks player and president. "We're going to get to the bottom of this, if there is a bottom to this."

Washington police said they were investigating Arenas for gun-possession violations. But the Wizards' gun grab has also drawn the attention of the feds.

"We're working with the Metropolitan Police Department on the investigation. That's about all we can say at his point," said Ben Friedman, a spokesman for the US Attorney's Office in DC.

The feds have been investigating gambling within the NBA since disgraced ex-referee Tim Donaghy admitted betting on games and feeding information to bookies. It was not clear whether the gambling debt that sparked the Arenas-Crittenton duel had anything to do with league games.

A top players-union official said he was shocked by the allegations. "This is unprecedented in the history of sports," said Player's Association Executive Director Billy Hunter. "I've never heard of players pulling guns on each other in a locker room."

Team owner Abe Pollin -- his sensitivity heightened by the fatal shooting of his good friend Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 -- changed the club from the Bullets to the Wizards in 1997 because he didn't like the violent overtones of the original name. Pollin died in November.

Arenas, who has three kids, reportedly told team officials he brought guns to his Verizon Center locker so they wouldn't be close to his newborn at their home in Great Falls, Va.

He denied pulling a gun on Crittenton and even mocked the suggestion he would ever point a weapon at a teammate.

"You guys, I wanted to go rob banks, I wanted to be a bank robber on the weekends," Arenas said sarcastically after a game this week.

Firearm laws in Washington are among the nation's strictest. Until a recent US Supreme Court ruling, private ownership of guns was illegal in the nation's capital.

As it stands now, gun owners are allowed to transport firearms only within DC under very limited circumstances -- such as taking the weapon to be registered or to a practice range. There's no provision under current DC law for a private citizen to have a gun at work.

In 2003, Arenas pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon in San Francisco.

Arenas claimed the gun was legally registered in Arizona -- where he was star player for the University of Arizona Wildcats -- and said he forgot he needed California authorization to carry it there.

Crittenton hasn't played a minute this season for the Wizards and has struggled to overcome a bone bruise and strained tendons.

Additional reporting by Geoff Earle in Washington

I think we're going to have Artest-like suspensions for Arenas and Javaris. I really believe we'll see near season ending penalties for both players. Is that too much time? I don't think so. One fear I've always had, and I'm sure it's a fear shared by NBA administrators, is that some wacko will smuggle a gun into an arena and take dead aim at an NBA superstar from the second row.

This incident just brings that nightmare one step closer to the arena. I can't believe it, and I hope thunder bolts come down from mount Olympus for this.

Come on Times, we need an update. There's news to be made!

OK, Now Artest's injury is starting to worry me. Get Well Ron.

Guys stop banging on Ron Ron! The other day my washing machine (which is located in my garage) leaked all over the floor and I went out into the garage at night to get something and slipped and twisted my knee bad. Real bad... like, 'I've fallen and I can't get up bad'. These things happen and if Indiana fans or Houston fans want to talk stuff about Artest then thats fine. But laker fans? Guys are you in this as die hards fans or fairweather, run of the mill bandwangoners? Stay true and stay thankfull of all the things that God has blessed us with. Health and happiness (the Ron Ron accident could have been much worse). He slipped in his house while spending time with his family, not in some strip clup or in some after hours club parking lot somewhere. Doesn't sound like a drunk or crazy person to me. Sounds like a hardworking father trying to bring joy to his family during the holidays. Right?

Morning all...

So let me get this straight...Gilbert Arenas and the Critter get into a fight and pull guns on each other.....What is this?....The wild west...

The K brothers have moved to ESPN,and patrol a new blog called Land O Lakers...

Many thanks for the props... but I ain't no newbie. Let the others witness to that.

And welcome back Mike T... who has been much further away for a longer period than I have (actually I never left, just laid low for reasons of limited availability).

Yes, Mike, the K bros left a few weeks ago. We'd love to have you back.

One other point, I've only had one censored post in the years I've been here. The K bros wrote to me on that occasions saying they loved the political satire but couldn't post it. It was shortly after the resignation of a prominent female governor last year.

But today I seem to have been censored for a post about Shaq and Lebron. I guess we're all waiting to find out who the new Big Brothers of the list are, now that they're not the K bros.

Gilbert and Javaris should be kicked out of the NBA if they did what is alleged. That is ridiculous!

good point. Jon K was surprised that it happened on concrete. well, i'm sure there r a few staircases in his house and boxes and concrete one can be in basement, storage rooms, garage and so on. he does not live in a studio in Akron.

u r the newbie here: one, hobbit has a wife and maybe he screen name means that he also can have a hobby. i know u don't like his "arguments" that actually have lots of facts vs. posts by LakerTom under the influence of his "medication" and post delirium tremens anxiety that the Beast creates with every foul and missed pick and roll

and also you should know that Tsphere is an old "corespondent" from France and the only reason you don't see too many of his posts is it because it is hard to have a conversations when the K Bros or the LA Times stuff is sleeping and not posting or updating the entries till noon.

the BLOG should roll 24/hours. Lakers have fans all around he world in every TIME ZONE. they should have their voices LA TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so in the 2010, pay more attention to the "good" stuff on the blog and not to the "hype"...

Lakers can improve defense by getting Javaris Crittendon back. If someone tries to score on himhe can pull his gun out.

Gilbert Arenas needs to understand that shooting guard is a position and not an action to do.

Mike Teniente??!!! 'THE' Mike Teniente? Our brutha from anutha mutha? THAT Mike Teniente?

Bro, welcome home. All is forgiven. The K bros have gone to greener pastures. And hey, I guess you missed the news that Mitch has put together a deal...Kobe, Pau, and Bynum straight up for Kwame Brown.

Corner J,

you made me smile.

I'll give you 1 guess as to why I speak French.

First things first - I hope my entire Lakerholic family is well and able to watch the game tonight!!

However - i have some dire news. There is a troll on here using my name - and posting idiotic ideas of who the Lakers should trade for. Seriously - Randolph and Nate. WTH???? Anyone who's anyone knows that there is no way on god's green earth would I ever suggest such terrible ideas.

LA Times people - aren't you guys supposed to be watching out for stuff like this?? I mean, it's one thing to be a troll - but at least have your own name!! It's not cool to use someone else's handle. Hopefully you guys know the difference.....

That being said - I hope to see all the regulars on the live chat tonight!!

Nothing but another title will suffice.

Jon K thanks for the Bio-Chrono update. That sounds fascinating. Bynum needing to understand the why's of things seems to make alot of sense.
Thanks for taking a few minutes to address it!

Was that a post from the famous (infamous?) Mike T ??? I have been here for a couple of years and that may be the first post I have seen from him.
I couldn't tell you if him posting is a good omen or not, but I have heard MUCH about Kwame Calves postings. LOL.
Reminds me of a poem, "Have you seen the boy that used to come around here? He was full of mischief and quick to make a joke. What I would give for even a whisper of him ...." Something like that.

Anybody hear of this business of a Mexican standoff, guns drawn, between Javaris Crittendon and Gilbert Arenas in the locker room at the Verizon Center over a gambling debt? The NBA - where amazing happens!

the ESPM blog is rockin' (racially too) regarding the Arenas thing

the Washington Bullets r back

neither of them is a SHOOTING guard

one on one

and so on …

just another "index" swish,

Mike T,

It's been awhile. Hope all is well.

Dragonfly Daddy - nice post about Bynum.

Wes - got to agree, if this pans out to be true, the league's going to have to take a strong stand.

Hi everybody -

This is The Imitator. Over the past few months, I have been posting under your names. Some of you haven't understood and have questioned why. I guess it goes back to childhood. I was saddled with an unfortunate name and have always tried to escape it. I moved to the big city as an adult in an attempt to blend in... but then I got tired of being ignored. I began reading this blog and felt an amazing kinship... what if I was them? They write things and people read... and respond! I didn't trust that anyone would respond if I posted as myself, even with a clever screen name. So I just started copying all of you. I'm sorry that it's caused a problem but I just can't stop. I'm getting attention now and it's become really addictive.

Happy New Year's everybody!

Dave M...Wes...

These guys will get games and a fine...wait and see...

It happened on the 21st and just came out now,so someone has done a decent job of hiding this...

Gilbert should get the lions share because he originally bought the guns to the facility....

The Wizards are in a complete mess..Butler and Arenas have already had a argument and the team chemistry is really bad....

Mike Miller will be traded soon.....If the guy stayed injury free he would be a really nice outside threat...And Foy has had his minutes cut big time...

Justa..The blogger's entity theft is getting out of hands. It starts on the live chat after K Bros left us and perhaps taken the barriers they set up to prevent the identity theft! LAT needs to address this serious issue pronto! All they have to do is preventing these thieves from creating their blog name(s) under the names that are existed. Repeated violators would be banned from the blog (Block their IP address or email address).

Have a happy new year, everyone!

you should make your addiction The Los Angeles Lakers.

The rush is much bigger!

To the LA times,

Have y'all considered the model of logging in to post?
People can read as guest and post as a registered user.
It would allow you to find out who's posting on other
names, and then you could play: "Whacka poster"

Just a thought as I wait for the game.

CAn't wait to get this thing going. Time for some consistent defense - don't cha think???!!!

The Imitator - if that is indeed your real name - post as yourself & quit swiping handles. We can take whatever you'd like to dish out - just do it as yourself. And - if you truly are a Laker fan - then you've got nothing to be afraid of. Otherwise - speak your mind but prepare for a scourging!

I've always wanted to see Nate Robinson come of the bench for the Lakers.

just another "index" swish,

I have been to plenty of houses in Beverly Hills in my life. I can't recall one having a basement or concrete floors.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

Michael Teniente,

The prodigal son returns.

The Kamenetzky Brothers jumped ship to ESPN. Since most of us hate ESPN, the majority of the blog have remained and are waiting to see who the L.A. Times brings us before we make a collective decision as to what we will do.

In any case, it is nice to see you poke your head in here. Despite everything, you remain something of a legend here.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

It will be great to watch NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament: Rounds 1 & 2 - All Sessions Strip,i have bought tickets from looking forward to it.
