Artest out tonight against Phoenix

Artest Lakers forward Ron Artest will not play tonight against Phoenix, a team spokesman said Monday.

Artest will miss his second game because of a concussion he sustained Christmas night while falling down a flight of stairs. He also has a sore left elbow.

Artest consulted with a neurologist Monday morning in Los Angeles and was again told his condition was improving, but he was not cleared to play.

Lakers Coach Phil Jackson started Lamar Odom in Artest's place Saturday against Sacramento, though he might not use the same lineup tonight against the smaller Suns.

There you go. As expected from my prediction.

Ron... Oh well, we will have to deal with this.

It's gonna be tough on us tonight mainly due to the energy stack we may have erased lately.

And also due to the previouses match ups with our fierce opponents tonight: they are not dumb and they surely have learnt from losses.

I am expectin a show. A show broadcasted in my 3 am. Guess I better sleep sooner to sustain a new Laker Watch. Catch you all later: up, alive and kickin' ;)

IF YOU LIKE KOBE THEN LIKE BYNUM
I could understand it if things were falling apart, but it seems this Blog has no Heart
Bynum tries to be like a Warrior but can’t reveal, just how bad he really feels
Kobe gets hurt and plays through pain, And even though he misses he let’s shots rain
And do we blame Kobe for the miss, No we say we want a Warrior like this
So here comes Andrew also in pain, yet he adhere’s to the code and does not explain
That just like Kobe he’s hurt too, And just like Kobe he will try to play thru
And what does the get for trying to be strong, Rebuked, castigated, you know you Wrong
I’m not a Bynum idolizer no I’m not, but I can’t sit back & watch him take shot after shot
How many years did it take Jermaine Oneal, before he came into his own & was the Real Deal
Not all players came be a Kobe or KG, to comme straight from highschool & play like an MVP
It took years for jermaine Oneal to find his game, Don’t you think Bymum deserves the same
That’s it you gone do what you gonna do, but I’m Mamba24 and I say SHAME ON YOU!

THINGS EVEN OUT 2.0
Things even out just like they should, Clippers beating Celtics don’t mean the Celts’ no good
During a season you’ll have ebbs & tides, that why 10Rings emphasizes enjoying the ride
A straight shot thru may get you there fast, but will it provide any memories that will last.
A team is defined by the competition it plays, and it aint gonna win all the time always.
If you played every game at 100 percent, when the playoffs arrived your team would be spent
What did the Colts do in yesterdays Game, they said perfect record be damned, Superbowl is our aim
Look at the Patriots when they were perfect too, Then got to the Superbowl and they were thru.
All that I am trying to get across, Is that some good can come from what looks like a bad loss
In a game of players of somewhat even skill, the team that wins is the one with the strongest will.
Soft and Hard are just relative terms, they don’t take account of the fire within that burns
A wise man said be like Bamboo that bends in the wind & then springs back to see another day begin
And not like the Oak that is proud and Strong, till a stronger wind comes & the strong Oak is gone
Still some people are just never satisfied, they hate the scenery and can’t enjoy the ride.
All they want is to reach the goal & fail to take heed of valuable lessons as the ride unfolds
Laker Nation you just won a championship, have the Smush years from your minds already slipped
I for one am thankful for what we got, because it wasn’t that long ago we didn’t have a lot
I’m Mamba24, trying to write poems is what I do, it is what it is and what it is, is up to you

Without Artest, we need double efforts on Bynum. If LakerTom and Nemaia could help that would be fine too.

If Bynum makes another 3pts. debut, we lose or win hardly perhaps, in 3 OT's.

These are the dark times - looking forward to spring and summer

When is Luke supposed to get back?

Urgh.

Why am I concerned that with this head injury that Thriller will now be able to see dead people? With Wilt Chamberlain haunting Ron on the sidelines he might never get his shot back.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Oh thank goodness, a new thread. The last one was getting a little long in the tooth.

Now, let's all calm down and not nit-pick with each other. We're here because of the Laker love. There will always be bumps and hiccups. It's just natural. Just keep believing.

I get frustrated and want to complain too. In fact, I was preparing a long post on Bynum. And then I realized that the Laker front office is not beating a path to my door for advice. (I even checked first thing this morning - 'cuz I heard a noise. They weren't there. It was just a opossum.)

Let's have a good game tonight and have some fun. I love my TEAM and I accept the good and the bad.

LOVE,
Lass

Completely off topic to anything, but…

Hawaii D, and Hobbitmage: Howzit and Hau’oli Makihiki Hou! I’m a Kailua girl and fo’ school I wen go Iolani. I stay living on da Mainland now, but Hawaii no ka oi!

Spahk you laters,
Lass

With concussions, it is WAY better to be safe than sorry. I would much prefer for RonRon to take an extra game, or even two just to make sure everything is OK. Take it from me, I've had a couple of bad ones. It is no fun.

We can handle Phoenix. But, like ZairaAmaterasu so eloquently said, the biggest problem was that double-overtime game and what may have been an energy drain.

We shall see.

Plus, we love giving Phoenix hope only to dash their aspirations in the end. It is, you know, one of the Lakers' favorite past times.

--FEARless

i also need to comment on lakers/cavs game which i just finished watching last nite:

-- OMG!! MESSAGE TO THE LEAGUE: DONT TOUCH THE KING!! i am still sick to my stomach over the officiating. freakin STERN and his crew need to be crucified... i mean HOW OBVIOUS AND BLATANT to the viewers at home that this league clearly favors lebron over kobe?? what a better day of the year than XMAS for stern to SHOWCASE his favorite puppet to the world than on ABC... how many freakin touch fouls did lebron get when kobe was getting shellacked in the paint?? and the crab has the audacity to actually argue a number of calls that didnt go his way??!! WOW. talk about ungrateful..

-- another scintillating performance by the OPPOSING POINT GUARD... i mean MO WILLIAMS 28 pts 6RBS 7ASSTS... that a SEASON HIGH FOLKS I KID YOU NOT!! AND ANOTHER ALMOST TRIP DUB BY OUR OPPOSING GUARD... so you can keep defending dfish's clutch play all you want but just know most of those CLUTCH shots also come at his expense... i'm sick of harping about this guy.

-- farmar... hahahaha.. sorry but talk about complete hopelessness.

-- sac/lakers game post game comments still to follow....

Oh, Bynum will have a field day tonight, as will the 2nd member of the Softy-Bros, Pau.

The Suns don't come with a thug front court.

Mamba 24...that roll call sent chills down my spine!

Please put me on the "I support Andrew Bynum bandwagon". All he needs is to be more aggressive and put some emotion back in his game.

Lets take the positive spin on this injury and look at it as increased opportunity for the Lakers reserves to get some additional playing time. One of the FEW glaring weakness in this years Laker's squad has been there inconsistent bench play. My take is that the increase in playing time for the reserves will help increase there confidence and be better prepared for late season moments where they will be needed. If the Laker's bench does not improve they may want to look into a mid-season acquisition via trade or free agency to add depth to the second unit. Reason being is the other elite teams (Boston, Orlando, Cleavland, and Denver) all have superior benches. Of course when you have Kobe Bryant on your team there are certain things you can overcome, but it may only help.

"Why am I concerned that with this head injury that Thriller will now be able to see dead people? With Wilt Chamberlain haunting Ron on the sidelines he might never get his shot back." John K.
HAHAHHAAHHAHAHA! Excellent take!
I know I'm relatively new to this blog, but I've been a huge Laker fan since about age 10- so that's 24 years. I've only recently been frequenting this site since my work schedule has lightened up a bit. Since our team's biggest problem right now is a lack of defensive intensity, I wanna take a poll. I love D Fish, but he just can't keep up with most opposing guard's quickness. This causes a domino effect where a big has to slide over and leave his man open. Either our big gets called for a foul or his man is left open for a pass or easy tip in.
Can I get a count of who would be in favor of moving Shannon Brown into the starting lineup for this specific reason?

Wow mamba24,that was wack-way too much time on your hands

Mamba24 - please count me in as a passenger on the Bynum "Amare who?" bandwagon. .

2 hour Flught delay

Got some time to kill. Thought I'd tackle the latest Andrew Bynum debate.
I've considered both sides for a couple hours now and I've come to a pointless realization...
Andrew is the new LO.

Give a kid 60mil and y'all expect him to perform as if you paid him.
It's a lot easier to like Lamar after the salary cut. There were posts that would have traded he and Luke for a new shipment of practice balls.

Andrew's a big, rich kid now. If he's reading the blog, and I highly doubt it, he can take the criticism, it's probably nothing compared to what Kobe's yellin in his ear.

Blogwise, Andrew's got LO's target on his back, because there's been so much positive hyperbole slung his way. He's a future and we need a now. He, Pau and Lamar make us an opposition nightmare but when we struggle, he's the 60 million dollar man with weak stats.

Trade him? Not gonna happen. In the mean time, when he looks lost on D, lopes back down the floor and laughs at a joke you can't gear as we're gettin blown oueepieep screamin at the TV set, I don't know why but it seems to help.

the criticism or better learn to.

oueepieep" in the last post was an unintended typo but is funnier than the original idea so I went with it.

btw
holiday airports don't grow on you as the hours pass.

mclyne,

"Can I get a count of who would be in favor of moving Shannon Brown into the starting lineup for this specific reason?"

I'm not in favor of it, but I do like the idea of giving Shannon Brown more minutes than Derek Fisher. Still, Derek should start.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Mamba24,

You've got skills.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

mamba, did you sit on your keyboard for a few minutes? what happened to comments will not appear until they've been approved?

PAU GASOL IS NOT SOFT. A long, lanky PF went head-to-head with the Dwight Howard, a stud and the best Center in the NBA, in The Finals and Pau outplayed him.

Pau does have bad games, like anyone. When he does he gets called soft. In spite of being a rebounding machine and an incredibly efficient low post threat. In spite of taking a punishment down there every night. In spite of playing tough D.

The guy plays his ass off. He is not soft.

Tom Daniels

Bynum has looked lost lately. It is something he and the Lakers, need to figure out. My guess is that they will.
Come playoff time Phil will have these guys ready. I would hate to have to face them in June.

Boston beat by the Clips. Gotta love it. Of course, like the Lakers' recent struggles, it doesn't mean much. They are still the top 2 teams in the league. It's December.

It's fun to watch a team come together. During the season it usually involves watching some rough patches. The Lakers are having one right now. But they still only have 5 losses. And Drew and Lamar will play better than this.

Not time to panic folks.

Tom Daniels

mclyne,

I'm with Jon K. on this. I think D-Fish still starts. But he can sit sooner and longer to give Shannon more minutes. And this looks to be happening a bit.

Lass

P.S. Welcome to the Blog and thanks for jumping right in.

REPOST:
----------------------------------

Hi Troy!

Thanks for the articles. It seems as if in the Kevin Ding article, he is alluding to a soft reputation - which doesn't necessitate that Pau is soft though.

Allow me to answer your questions:

1) Do you think Pau Gasol has had a reputation for being soft?

- I think that he has an undeserved reputation for being soft, considering who he had to guard in his first 3 playoff series (a healthy, in-prime Timmy D)

2) If yes, then why do you think he has this reputation?

- In large part, he may have this due to the 2008 finals. He's got a ring now, and was able to neutralize the game's strongest center in D-Howard.

3) Who's "softer" (mentally and physically) in your opinion, Pau Gasol or Andrew Bynum (think about it)?

- Neither physically; they both play different positions. I don't want to get into the contents of someone's head, so the second conjunct of your question will remain unanswered. I do think that winning a championship is a great cure-all for tainted perceptions.

Hope you're having a good day!

BLOG CRUE
We'll hope for a victory in the desert sun. I'm sure their crue will be ready but so will the Lake Show.

One more day before departure back to the CO.

Los Angeles loves our World Champion Lakers!

Yo, mamba24, put me in the engine room of the I SUPPORT ANDREW BYNUM BANDWAGON. Before the season's over, the kid is going to make the Bynum-deniers eat their words. Ditto for The Green Asterhole.

Yellofever,
I can't agree with you more regarding the XMas day officiating. That was an absolute joke. I do not blame the fans one bit for throwing the foam pads onto the court to protest the refs. You would think that satan Stern and his officials would be more cautious with the biased officiating after the whole Donaghy scandal, but nothing is going to stop satan from helping Lebron get to the top.

How about this one, Bynum , Farmar and Vuyacic for Rose and Noah? I think that would be a good one for both teams. Yes? No?

Greetings fellow Lakers and Celtic haters.
Two things I have read that I think about.
Bynum looks like he is pulling a 747 up and down the court. Great.
Gasol looks like he got shot by a sniper after every call. Better.

Okay, here goes. Fish is not clutch, what about the four he missed before? Can't play D anymore. Second string him.
Sasha, Powell, Mbenga and Powell? Never, ever let them in. They make Sun Yue look good.
Artest for Ariza? Didn't like it then, don't like it now, maybe in the future, but 38% through the season I don't see it.
Lamar needs to get 6 fouls, offensive ones, charge the basket dude, and get more rebounds. Same with Bynum. Gasol is doing his part. Most underrated and underappreciated All Star in the NBA.
They make around $100,000 per game. EARN IT! Watch Showtime and see how to complete a fast break. A turnover off a turnover is usually a 4-5 point switch.
Please don't let Kobe shoot left handed jumpers, pass it dude.
I love the Mamba and know I am asking too much based on how much he does, I just want him to be perfect.
Phil needs to call timeouts, just to change the momemtum, letting the boys play through it builds character, but I want wins.

Laker Mike

The Lakers do not need to trade Bynum. He has unlimited potential if he really wants it and shows it game in and out. He needs to show opposing players that he is there to protect and defend the basket. He needs to intimidate them. He is so tall, long, and strong...he must use all these gifts. He kept saying that he and Gasol will be the best low/mid post duo in the league. Gasol has shown it, Bynum has not consistently for whatever reason. He looks lost most of the time. I don't get it. He's been with the team for a long time now, he should know their tendencies. He's been handed Kareem as a tutor, what else can he learn? I think the Lakers has catered to him well (big contract and a hall of famer tutor). So i expect him to show up in games in and out. I don't care much for his scoring because he can do it well. I want him to be a beast on defense and rebounding because that's what i believe the team needs from him. I want him to show me energy and nonstop effort. This is the year that he needs to prove himself, after all he is getting paid millions of dollars. So come on Bynum show us that you are a beast. Show us faithful fans that you have a heart of a champion and a heart of a beast. Remember it is the nature of a beast to show what they are made of. Go Lakers!!
To Mamba24: thanks for your thoughts. I usually don't post much, just read the faithful bloggers thoughts such as yours. I know we are winning and have the best record but lately i've been frustrated with the play of Bynum, Jordan, Sasha, Brown(sometimes), and Odom. But i single out Bynum more because he is our center and i expect great things from him in every game. He talks a lot but i believe "action speaks louder than words." And frankly his actions are not backing up his words. Take care.

The bench and Drew need to stepup. Ron will be ok. Better to have him sit and get healthy again. The season has a long way to go and we need him for the long haul.

Woops. I hope I'm not posting this twice.

I'm with you Lady Z. I too expect a show tonight, and if we don't get one I'm going to be upset. If we don't see some passion after what we saw in the Christmas day debacle and the double overtime donut, then I'm going to have to start cutting and pasting all the trade Bynum articles, because I'm just saying, we could get A LOT for that fella. I suspect even a starting defensive center who rebounds and blocks shots, and a franchise PG/Heir to the Kobe throne.

I seriously believe we could get both for Bynum.

And Bynum needs a team that doesn't have a Pau Gasol. If he were the featured player in an inside out offense, he would be fighting Gasol for the title of the West's best center and not just playing time.

Wes

Laker Tom,

Please chill the hell out! I have not lost faith in Bynum, and I do believe his illness has been a major factor in his recent play, but he still deserves every bit of criticism he is getting from the fans. For one, he just signed a huge contract and people are worried about his motivation post-contract. Fair or not, many fans are having Luke and Sasha flashbacks.

And do you seriously think that Laker fans are going to give Bynum a free pass after getting dominated by an old and overweight Shaq, right after signing a huge contract? For the typical hardcore Laker fan, losing in the finals to Boston again would be absolutely unbearable, but losing to Shaq and Lebron in the finals would come a close second. Your job as the #1 Bynum Lover in the Universe is to ease the concerns of the fans and accentuate his positives. Instead, you are calling fellow Laker fans "morons who know nothing about basketball" when there's a big piece of crow stuck in between your teeth. Their criticism about Bynum's play is no more offensive than your pleas to make Bynum the first or second option ahead of Kobe and/or Pau.

And finally, I agree that trading Bynum for a PG would not be wise unless the PG is Chris Paul or Deron Williams, but how about trading Bynum for a PG AND a center. Someone in FB&G mentioned a potential trade for Kirk Heinrich and Noah. This trade will solve the frontcourt chemistry problems immediately, as Noah is the anti-Bynum. Noah's priorities are rebounding, defense, and hustle first, and scoring last. In other words, a perfect compliment to Kobe and Pau. Heinrich would be almost the perfect PG in the triangle with his defense and basketball IQ. This trade would also maximize Kobe, Artest, Pau and Lamar's window of opportunity. I'm not suggesting that the team make this trade, but there are trade scenarios for Bynum out there that could make sense, or at the very least be discussed amongst Laker fans without being attacked by the Blog Nazis.

And just to balance the scales, MAMBA24, put me on the 'I support Bynum' bandwaggon. Because i really do, even if my mind won't stop playin GM.

Wes

Of course I'd like jump on the "I support Andrew Bynum" bandwagon. How could anyone not want to support the kid - the franchise obviously has a lot tied up in this kid and we'd all be fools to not wish him well. That said, I sure hope he's got this upper respiratory infection under control...what's it been now, two weeks??? Let's go Drew - if there was ever a game to snap out of it, this is it!

What can you say, just another great post by Mamba24.

We need Ron Artest.

We also need Ron Artest to kick Lamar and Andrews butts so that they can work harder, with more dedication and determination. Otherwise, both have been space cadets.

Ron has easily been our best defender.

Kobe needs help. He can't be playing injured all the time and be expected to lead the team all the time.

We need Ron Artest.

He and Kobe and Pau and Derek have been the adults on this team.

How does Houston plan to trade McGrady if they don't play him? It seems to me like there is some nafarious shenanigans going on there. He does have a 22 millin dollar expiring contract, but that may actually be too big to trade.

And is Mayweather afraidof Pacquiao? Something is not right there.

Last thought. Artest and Ariza may be the best 2 mid level signings of all time. Until recently, almost none of the mid level signees paned out. But, these two have.

Wes

"How about this one, Bynum , Farmar and Vuyacic for Rose and Noah? I think that would be a good one for both teams. Yes? No?" -DJ

Yes, Yes, and Yes. Rose is going to be a perennial Allstar for years to come and Noah can teach a thing or two about effort and intensity to anyone on this Lakers squad except for Kobe, Shannon and Pau.

"mclyne,
I'm with Jon K. on this. I think D-Fish still starts. But he can sit sooner and longer to give Shannon more minutes. And this looks to be happening a bit." -LakerLass

Anyone else on the "start Shannon poll?"

Dammit! I am late again for the Roll Call!

Please MAMBA24, put me on it and also on the Andrew Bynum bandwagon! We believe our Twin Towers will take us to more glory days.

By the way MAMBA after your great poetry shown one can only say OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN!!!
