Pau Gasol: Hamstring improving

It appears that Pau Gasol's injured hamstring is improving. The LAT's Mike Bresnahan reports Gasol was able to finish what Phil Jackson called a "pretty good workout" Tuesday afternoon after shootaround in Oklahoma City, and while he won't play Wednesday- no surprise- Jackson wouldn't eliminate the possibility of a return Friday night at Staples against Memphis.

I still think they'll want to see Gasol practice in full and then recover well the following day before putting him on the floor for a game, but if that can happen this week it opens the door if not for OJ Mayo and Co. perhaps Sunday's game against Chris Paul and the Hornets.

We'll just have to wait and see. (Sound familiar?)

Tonight we play Rockets, this win is in the pocket, so everybody can just relax
Analyze the D and you will surely see, that the D is fantastic that’s a fact.

Pau’s close to return, When will we all Learn, not to panic when someone goes down
The Lakers are tough, they’re made of strong stuff, Ask K.G. the lunatic clown
But with Kobe and Pau, Don’t forget the Beast Yall, as well as L.O. & Ron Ron

Strraannge Game

Good shooting offset by TOs. Good D offset by a bad case of Road Ref.

Laker composure won, a very good sign.

Lakers faced two good teams in the last two games and survived it without Gasol. Individually, the Thunder are a decent team tho' their inexperience showed in the waning minutes. Durant cannot handle the pressure from Artest, it was constantly disturbing him with those scissor hands and pressure bumps. Kobe, Artest and Lamar paved way to Lakers victory through gamesmanship and court management. Durant and Westbrook were shorting threes when they only need twos. It is youth wanderlust to achieve immediately even faced by challenges.

We don't need to hurry Gasol's hamstring since tonight will be the last game on the road. I think Lakers will still be competitive without Gasol against Memphis on Friday and NO on Sunday. What we need is the 2nd unit to contribute, if they come out swinging then we'll be ok till next Thursday against Phoenix who are not the best team in the division. By Nov. 13th, the Denver game on the road is a "must" for Gasol. I also hope the 2nd unit have found themselves by that time.

Good morning Laker Family!!!

No one can be happier for Pau to get back than me. Our flow is just completely off. We look like amateurs out there against rookies in Rucker Park...heck, the Rucker Park players look better that that.

I watched the entire game and have no nails left today. It was just plain ugly and nerve wracking. Oh my! But one to a new game and a new day. We must play better against the Rockets if we're gonna pul it out though. Those guys, including Ariza, are playing clike they have nothing to lose. They're offense is much faster than last year and we're gonna have to keep up with little speedy gonzales over there. I say we start Shannon Brown cuz Fish looks very slow right about now...he was gettin' smoked last night.

Ok, enough complaining for me already. We'll be ready for tonigh (I think!). GO LAKERS!!!!

I really was hoping this season would be less stressful than last but I see we're getting ready for another roller coaster.

Sheesh, my apologies for all the typos in my last comment. The nerves have me typing too fast. You get my point though!

Mamba24,
Thanks for a much needed roll call. Let's leave the pitiful performance at OKC in the past and look forward to Gasol's return, whenever it is.

Well, pretty much the only good thing about last night's game was the outcome. Everything else was discouraging. Maybe it's just me, but the Lakers' strategy at the end of games drives me batty. Here's what it seems to be...

Step 1: Walk the ball very slowly up the floor for no apparent reason, preferably barely beating the 8 second count

Step 2: Take another 5-7 seconds as you watch Kobe jostle and wrestle for a post-up position 18 feet from the basket

Step 3: Force feed an awkward pass in to Kobe from a terrible angle with a guy draped all over him

Step 4: If the terrible entry pass hasn't been intercepted and taken to the other end for a dunk, watch Kobe dribble around and/or jab-step for 5 seconds as he decides how he's going to shoot it

Step 5: (Hopefully at this point, Kobe has no more than 6 seconds with which to operate) Watch as Kobe takes a high-difficulty fadeaway or drives it in to the teeth of the defense hoping for a foul

How is this the Lakers best option? There's a giant 7 footer down low who has shot 10-15 from the field and is an 80% FT shooter... so let's just ignore him ok? This strategy makes the Lakers far too predictable, IMO. Am I the only one?

This comment is about last night's game. Great for Pau we should be a much much smoother team when he gets better. But regarding Artest's play. Okay I first believed that he was playing very erratic but that's probably not the case (I'm not sure I'm getting my DVR today again and will evaluate things frame by frame player by player). I think that in some sequences where Artest is being aggressive the lot of Lakers players are sitting around watching him and not really moving themselves. I think it's kind of a flashbacktible phenomenom that we observed when Kobe had Lamar, Smush, Kwame, Caron, Atkins and all those guys who did the same thing. They've seen enough now start playing. But the differences are that Artest can't really drive in and CREATE plays as well as Kobe can and he does it just a few times. I'm fine with the amount of times he's backing his player down as long as it fits in the triangle. If this is going to be the norm then all Lakers players have to fundamentally accept this to allow themselves to start playing as a team. No player should stare at another player (start moving about!!). They need to worry about what they can do to help. Starring will not accomplish anything. No mancrushes allowed any more!!!!!!I can't help starring either maybe because I'm still gaging him but our secret weapon is that the other team is subconsciously if not consciously doing the same thing. This could be a good thing instead of a bad thing.

Peculiar win. The bench needs to stop going rogue and dump it into the big man.

they still need to remember, the bench guards are still auditioning for their spot behind Fish or Kobe. And Phil ain't looking for how many points they score. he's looking to see who plays best with whom.

I noticed that:

-Artest started looking comfortable.

-Kobe started to look like he's getting that bounce (and step) back.

-Bynum is looking great....I don't think he needs as many post moves as he probably thinks to be effective. A good hook, keep the ball high, and always be ready for the pass.

Lastly...
-Cavs will probably get better....adding a #2 option isn't easy for anyone, let alone it Shaq that you're trying to add.
-Celtics look good now, but they often get into very drawn out playoff series...which means over 1 game, they can win with talent, depth. Over a series, they can be figured out.
-like the Lakers (and as per their usual) the Spurs aren't at full strength yet. its way to early for them, or us.
-The Magic are still the most interesting team in the east at this early juncture.
-its been one week since the season started. In the grand perspective, the fact that team A, B, or C looks good and we're supposedly struggling with a 3-1 record doesn't mean we don't have a shot at repeating. Last I checked, we haven't lost a playoff series in 2010 yet.

Rankings and PER on individual players are mere gauges or barometers of where the trends are. They don' mean anything in 100 games season. All season 82 games merely determine the home court advantages during playoffs. Playoffs are the true measure of the will to win towards Championship. Whoever comes out standing, unscathed by injuries and coming out together as a team, will go to the Finals.

Therefore, at this time it appears that Celtics have the edge in the East and Nuggets in the West. It is good for bragging and ego boosting especially if someone needs show of accomplishments to cure depression and boredom. Will the good start in November be translated to better performance in the last races in May and June? Let's see.

Dime mag- where are they now: Nick Van Exel

http://tinyurl.com/ygb3fpd

Used love this guy. remember when Fish used to back him up? Always thought fish was a good back up, and still kinda do, but fish's saving grace being his leadership and mental game were MUCH better than Van Exel's.

Anyways, thought I'd share.

While I'm encouraged to hear Phil reporting on Pau's energetic workout before the game yesterday, I am a little mystified by the apparent lack of confirming results from Monday's MRI - why so hush, hush? We all know about the sonogram, what's the deal with the MRI results?

- The lack of team speed is being exposed though the first few games. Pau's return will make the starting unit even slower. Our transition defense and Kobe trying to run a fast break with Fish, Bynum, Artest and Gasol will not be a pretty sight.

- Pau at center, Lamar at PF and Shannon at PG should help offset the team's biggest weakness - team speed.

- The bench will improve with Lamar, and I understand that this was the bench that won us the championship, but the bench for Orlando and Boston is scary good. Most of our bench players would not get minutes if they were playing for Orlando or Boston. Even if Sasha and Farmar turn it around, our bench is still at a big disadvantage.

Hey Laker Family,

I wonder why the bench is so inept....You would think a ring would build confidence. We're constantly getting out-played by the bench from other squads. Jordan and Sasha looked completely lost. I would like to see Morrison get some run, he can't do any worse. We need someone off the bench to provide some spark of energy. I think the guard play (point) is gonna be a weakness again. Is it me, or is Stafford a hater??

#4 -

I agree with everything that you said. It kinda boggles me that everyone is firing up the trade machine chatter when we've just completed the 1st week of the season. We're not even at full strength yet! I really wish people wouldn't push the panic button just yet. Does anyone see Popovich fretting? Or Phil, for that matter?

EastCoastJessie -

I can understand your worries; I watched most of the game last night as well, and we look like we're still finding our way. Houston, on the other hand, seems like they know what their plan of attack is going to be every night. I'm curious to see how Ron Ron plays against Ariza. Hopefully we'll finish this back-to-back strong.

Good morning Laker Fam!
I'll be holding it down in Toyota Center tonite with the other Laker faithful. Rockets fans will be brutal against Ron....and of course Trevor will be hyped to make an extra good showing. However, the purple and gold will prevail!!

GO LAKERS!!!
