Lakers Video: Monday's practice

November 2, 2009 |  5:18 pm

I posted the big news- Pau Gasol's MRI- earlier in the afternoon. Beyond that, it was a reasonably light day in El Segundo, as the Lakers were quick getting off the court and to the airport for their flight to Oklahoma City. Still, there were a couple points of note from the head coach, to be presented with the aid of video pictures:

Phil Jackson, on Tuesday's game in Oklahoma City. On the matchup between Ron Artest and Kevin Durant: "He's so lanky, I don't know how that's going to work out. I haven't talked to Ron about it particularly. We went through some of the actions that they run to get our defense prepped, but we'll see how that goes." I would expect Artest to use his physicality to limit Durant's options in open space. While he's developed into a prolific scorer since being moved to a more natural small forward spot, the long, lean Durantula still isn't overly strong.

I have no idea how the Rockets defended Durant last season but for those interested, in the three games OKC played against the Rockets, one of which Artest missed, he scored and shot well.

PJ on Artest, and finding the comfort zone. Nothing particularly new there- Jackson sees good things and believes over time Artest will continue improve. After Sunday night's win, he noted how Kobe Bryant was burned a couple times gambling off Joe Johnson in the first quarter before Artest locked him up through the rest of the game. Meanwhile, Kobe scored 41 points and finished with five steals. I asked Jackson if Artest's presence, which will often put Kobe on secondary or even non-scorers (as it will Tuesday with OKC's Thabo Sefalosha) allows the freelancing Bryant likes to do on that end to become more effective and/or and acceptable. PJ's answer is at the end of the clip. In short... it depends.

I've never been a huge fan of Kobe-as-free-safety because in a defensive system when one guy goes off the script it confuses and complicates things for the guys around him, but if he's not sloughing off dangerous players, it can have advantages. As LA's defense evolves, it's something to watch.

Wel II guess Ron's the Physical lockdown defender and Kobe is the explosive defender who gambles for steals and blocks realllyyyyy well but tends to get burned more often than someone of his defensive caliber should(which he generally won't do in the 4th qtr mind unless its a blowout status or desperation mode) It works well cuz we do have some eraser's in the backline (Pau,Drew.Odom,DJ) so i don't think anything is gonna change except better understanding of how they can work with each others strengths as I've seen a lot more pressing after made shots than i've ever seen the lakers use and i've been watching since 96' In a weird way Kobe can spend more energy on defense cuz Ron's around he gambles but he seems even more intent on harrassing his man, cept when he gets caught roaming lol, than more recent years.

For those people who are actually paying attention to my post, i apologize for this part of the last post, which made little sense whatsoever;

"A couple of people want to see Adam Morrison get showcased. A lot of people complain about Farmar’s defense. Farmar makes Morrison look like ron artest with an extra couple of arms, only he is much slower. Guy has no defense, and isn’t likely to get any.
-me, earlier"

not sure what i was doing there. I mean that morrison makes farmar look like ron artest with extra arms, except that morrison is also really slow. Right.

131-whatever- since you addressed your comment to me personally- I believe I aimed my comment at idiot celtic trolls. I never mentioned any names. But hey, thanks for volunteering. I'm sorry, i neglected to pay any attention to the rest of what you said. Please don't talk to me anymore. Um, I mean, I hope that you will be more aware of the respect due to all people regardless of team affiliation, and i'm sorry if you have to insult athletic teams that are completely unaware of your existence to feel better about yourself. Try to be more loving of your fellow human beings, if I may presume.

p ang- I prefer to think that LakerTom is the Nova to my Speedball, but then again, i go in for obscure comic book references. If people actually understand what i'm talking about....um, i guess we'll have to cross that bridge should we ever come to it.

LakerTom- still much love, even if you don't think I get it.

Andrew Bynum might be the Laker’s second leading scorer but he is not a 2nd option. Pau Gasol is the second option, the team flows so much more efficiently going into him. Bynum is too indecisive when he gets the ball in the post, and then once he makes up his mind he can’t make the adjustments.
He will score more than Gasol because of Gasol, he will score from the attention given to Gasol and Gasol's ability to make the right play. We already have seen we can win with a limited Bynum, but we can’t without Gasol. Once Gasol comes back I think Bynum will become even more of a force.

Anyone who has buyer’s remorse because Ariza has had some good numbers doesn’t understand the game. Artest proved against Johnson why we made that switch, it will be a mute argument when he faces Carmelo and we all see why he is the better choice for this team. Kobe scoring 40+ easily was the true result of having Artest. It’s only been 3 games and he showed why he’s here, once he gets comfortable in the offense, wow can’t wait.

“Farmar sees Rondo get $55 million and knows he is just as good if not better.” Posted by: Todd | November 02, 2009 at 12:14 PM
Todd are you Farmar’s brother? Are you his agent? Jordan is that you?

LOL! I was really just joking with the “get it” stuff. What is hilarious is that EVERYBODY thinks they “get it,” no matter that they may not even understand what the conversation was about, which means that those angered because they think I think they didn’t get it is wrong because everybody is talking about different things. That’s why they get it. Get it?

Tom

LakerT- nope. But i'm a pretty well adjusted guy. I'm willing to admit I don't know what's going on.

Um, 131, i actually went back and read your comment, cause I thought maybe by talking to me personally you were going to try and build some bridges or something. My mistake. I don't know what fantasy league you are talking about. Yes, my league is FREE, or just free, as I call it. I sent the league info to everyone who emailed me at the address I posted, regardless of what team they were cheering for. I didn't even know the blog names most of the guys used until draft day. Sorry you missed it.

And perhaps I need to do another declaration of what phred means, since some of y’all weren’t around and/or memorizing every post last season- this is the internet. I don’t know y’all personally, you don’t know me personally, and sarcasm and irony don’t translate well. I go out of my way to honestly express that I have respect and love for all true fans of the game, even if we all have our own blog personas that may or may not reflect how we really all in person, I know there are real people behind all of them. Or most of them. I’m never really sure about pfunk. (See, that’s a joke, cause pfunk never responds to any of my personal slights, and seems to have no awareness of how obsessed he is about Luke Walton. But if he is a real person, I respect him) Everything else I said can stand on its own merits, and if it sounds ridiculous, I can always claim I meant it to.

Thanks for letting me talk about myself some more, and i return y'all to your regular scheduled discussion of how lousy Jordan Farmar is.

THE LOVE HAS PROPS FOR MANUS HANDS

BUT THE LOVE THINKS THAT CHASE UTLEY IS PLAYING OUT OF HIS MIND

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE LOVE

GO LAKERS!

Let's be real,Fisher is the only weak link on this team, yes he's a veteran but would do sooo much better running the second team,he'd have more scoring opportunities and can keep them under control as kobe and company can keep Farmer under control and teach him how to run with the first unit,I think he'd be so much better,he can penetrate, and finish, unlike Fisher. So hopefully the Laker organization will sign this kid to be their future because Fisher's starting years are done,Our weakest link is the point guard position and it will hurt us in the end.

Um, I mean, I hope that you will be more aware of the respect due to all people regardless of team affiliation, and i'm sorry if you have to insult athletic teams that are completely unaware of your existence to feel better about yourself. - phred

This coming from a guy who JUST told all trolls to "get bent" whatever that means.

Much love and respect right back at you, phred
This "troll" wishes the lakers the best of luck this year - see you in June, when I'm sure your love fest will continue.
Love you, man!!

BTW Im sure Rondo is aware of your existence. Especially on the 1st and 15th of every month.

Whats going on?

Have not heard from LakerTom about his beloved Bynum as option #2 and I keep reading posts after posts about Pau as the real deal and #2 option..

Pau is the real deal tooo..

NBA4ever,

Right now with Pau out Bynum is the second option. Andrew hasn't been indecisive at all in the first 3 games going right at his man and showcasing a variety of post moves(even PJ acknowledged that Drew has developed a variety of post moves). Bynum's shot selection has been excellent with some of his chippies and short jump hooks rimming in and out. Until Pau returns, Andrew is the second option and could be on any given night even with Pau in the lineup. The offense runs more smoothly Pau because Pau is more savvy and experienced than Drew who just turned 22. I'm not going to take anything away from Pau because he's the perfect fit and big man for the triangle offense, but give Drew more time and he'll be right there.

Great post by the way. Go Lakers!!!

Overall, the Lakers look fine this early in the season...like a Ferrari that still hasn't been floored or had to use it's last two gears. As others have mentioned, until Pau returns to the lineup and Lamar amps up the second unit, nobody has yet seen the Lakers' tires smoking through the league. It's coming.
But here are a few pings that are troubling.
1) We have not yet found that smokin' spot up 3-point gunner that will rain 3's from the corner when the defenses (like Dallas showed) put up a zone. Fisher is our only semi-reliable 3-pt guy, and there are nights when it's not working for him. I'm surprised that Phil hasn't worked Ammo more to help him find his stroke. He's potentially a Kukovic type, but he's accumulating rust and lack of confidence from riding the bench. The rest of the league (and especially the Celtics) have loaded up on 3-pt gunners. This could be a big problem in the playoffs.

[ Half true, as to comments but lets look. Why surprised? PJ always says he is going to do one thing and does the opposite. That is no surprise. As to 3 point shooters Orlando tried that last year and see how well that worked. The only thing that has merit is we lost quick perimeter defense with the loss of Trevor. so 3 point shooters may be more effective than before. Please don't say Artest because he will be glued to paula and the other 3 point shooters have to be accounted for].
2) Jordan and Sasha are both playing scared. Sasha in particular could be the 3-pt guy we need, but he's playing frantic and trying to do too much in order to show he can do it all (drive, defend, pass). Dial it back down, dude. Get to you spot, square up, and drain those shots. Stop already with the insta-shots on the run.

[ I agree both playing out of control. Farmar if he settles down can do a lot better. Sasha too has to settle down and square up. Brown can be the 3 point shooter with more practice and consistency].

3) Drew is similarly playing too frantic...on offense. Wants to show everyone that he's an All-Star...on offense. Fine. 20 ppg is cool, but what would really make you an All-Star is if you got 20 rebounds and 5 blocks per game. We're loaded with scorers. We need your boards, blocks, and intimidation/shut-down of the pick and roll. When we play the Celtics in the finals, you better come ready to rumble under the basket.

[ Unrealistic expectations from Bynum and ironic in judgement of him. Yes he has to get more boards but he can't be everywhere at one time. We have very good rebounders and like team defense we team rebound and w/o looking at stats I will bet the Lakers out rebounded the teams we played but not sure on Dallas. But many on other posts say Kobe can let RA work defense so Kobe can concentrate on offense. BS. Kobe needs to work on both ends just like all players on our team].
4) Luke haters...give it a rest. The guy is solid. NOBODY, not even Kobe, understands and plays the triangle better. Nobody makes his teammates play better. Nobody. Phil obviously knows that. So shaddup already.

[Dude I think you should refrain from telling anyone to shadup with that weak logic. Luke knows the triangle better than Kobe? Luke spends off season BBQing and Kobe works on his game including how it fits into triangle but Luke knows more. When has Luke changed PJ's call in Time out and ran what he wanted? When has Luke ever grabbed a clipboard from coaches to draw up play? Yup never. The best thing he did for the knowledge was ask PJ to bench him for TA. Luke had an average game which to you seems great. Too little for too much!

NO PAU, NO SWEAT..
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
While you never want any player to be injured, Pau taking off another 3 weeks to fully recover from his hamstring injury could actually help the Lakers in the long run. It seems pretty obvious to me that wear and tear of continuously playing has to have been a major factor in Pau pulling his hamstring. The best thing in the world right now might be for him to take some time off to recuperate. His body and his psyche both probably needed a recharge and the hamstring was the alert to do so.
-
The Lakers early schedule is also such that they should be able to do fine without Pau. The bench will lose some pop with Lamar starting instead of playing 6th man and we might lose a game or two here and there but you don’t want to mess with Pau coming back early and reinjuring the hamstring again, which could result in a much longer recovery time. Hamstrings are notorious for being unpredictable as to when a player can return. The Lakers know too well how hamstrings can cost a championship. Pau is too important to the versatility and chemistry of the Lakers to risk any further injury.
-
I also think that the additional minutes and responsibilities that fall to Drew will help accelerate his development. More than any other factor, improvement from Drew on offense, defense, and boards as the season progresses could elevate the Lakers way above their competition. One thing Drew has shown is the ability to climb a very steep learning curve and become a better player with minutes. The easy schedule will give Drew a chance to develop more confidence and address his areas of need.
-
What is really unique about Pau is that his return is only going to make Drew even better offensively. In fact, I think Drew might even get more touches and points than he does now once Pau returns. Think about the matchups he will have. He has been averaging an easy efficient 20 points per game without the benefit of the other team having to pay attention to Pau, who will often be initiating the Lakers offense from the high post with Drew down low. Pau is going to make Drew unstoppable.
-
And conversely, Drew is going to make Pau unstoppable. You realize that we really have never seen both Drew and Pau at the peak of their games on the court together. Along with Ron Artest, whom I think will end up being another Lamar Odom on this team, a guy who does whatever the team needs that night with an emphasis on shutting down a key opposing player. Kobe, Drew, and Pau are going to get the points while Lamar and Ron do the dirty work and fill the stat sheets. That how we’ll win.

re Houston-Utah box score:

Two things jump out at me

1. 8 players in double figures

2. Brian Cook has become their human victory cigar 1:28 of burn in garbage time.

Nemaia Faletogo,

Obviously with Pau out Bynum is the second option right now. I was talking about for the season, not now or not forever. I love the development of his game, and I’m a big believer in Bynum. I just think Pau is that “savvy and experienced” that the ball should go through him; Bynum will get his because he is a beast and he has agility for a big man.
Their value is the same; I just think that Pau is a legit #2 on any team in the league. Pau is the piece that we must have to put us over the top, with the depth of the Celtics, Orlando, and San Antonio – we need both to be playing good. Watching those teams and watching the Lakers I saw how crucial Pau is to our team. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see LO play more minutes than Bynum at the end of games during a lot of situations throughout this year.

LakerTom

I totally agree about it being good for Pau to take some time off (not 3 weeks), it is good for him and it is good for the development of Bynum and the bench. The schedule works out perfect for him and the development of the team. It accelerates Bynums development and helps develop his and Odom’s relationship on the court. I think you summed it all up in your last two paragraphs.

Lakers fans- see this is what happens. Trolls are people so desperate for attention that they are happy just to get abuse, even if they don't understand it, and under no circumstances will they ever fall into the trap of reasonable discussion, as polite conversation is the last thing they want. If they wanted polite conversation, they'd stick on celtic...um, never mind. They'd just be stuck with other bostonians there. Starve the trolls, y'all. I hope you can all learn from my momentary lapse in judgement.

LakerTom- I admire your optimism, as always, and i hope you are right, as always, but as much as Pau needs the rest, he and drew also need to learn how to play together. Their teamwork is definitely a work in progress, and between Bynum's injury last year and Pau's this year, they are getting very little experience together, which we both agree should be the best lineup the Lakers can field. Right now Odom has been the Lakers starting forward for a large majority of the games over the last calender year.

and yup, i sure am glad we got odom resigned. we'd be pretty SOL without him right now.

NBA4ever.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I agree that it makes more sense for the Laker to run the ball through Pau in the high post to take advantage of his passing and playmaking ability. That doesn’t mean we don’t hit Drew or Kobe or any Laker who can post up and seal his man deep in the paint, just that going through the Spaniard is the best way to run the Triangle Offense. It’s that pass into the post to a center like Pau that sets the table for the rest of the team. Pau facing his man up at the free throw with Drew ensconced in the paint.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
phred,
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
You are right that Drew and Pau need to learn to work better together. Realistically, they have not really had that much time on the court when both were at their peak. And I definitely don’t prefer that Pau is injured and unable to play. I was basically just making lemonade out of the lemons. If any player could benefit from sitting for a couple of weeks, it would be Pau.
-
Like any great team, the Lakers can win any game even without Kobe Bryant and maybe even a championship without Andrew Bynum or without Pau Gasol. But they run best with all cylinders working in harmony, something we still have not had the pleasure of seeing. Their chemistry, rotations, and general karma are best when none of the major pieces are missing – meaning in my mind Kobe, Drew, Pau, or Lamar at this point – and hopefully Ron Artest as the season develops.
-
As for the record and home court, I don’t think that is going to matter to this team. If they have Kobe, Drew, and Pau at their best, they will dominate the NBA playoffs. Ron Ron will become Lamar II.

Tom

Man, that Sam Smith article sure got me thinking. Is it possible? Plausible? Kobe *and* LBJ on the same team? Wow!!

Think of all the crabs we could save!!!

Ok, back to reality :)

Looking back at the 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007 makes you appreciate the talent the Lakers have on their teams the past 2 years and counting. The Lakers had Brain Cook, who can not get off the bench on an injury plagued team in Houston, playing significant minutes. We had Kwame Brown playing significant minutes and for one stretch in the 2005-2006 season, actually producing. We had Smush Parker, Shammond Williams, Jordan Farmar in the guard rotation- the worst trio of guards ever. We had Luke starting and of course, Devean George playing backup. Those teams WERE horrible. Yet we had the playoffs two of out of those three years and possibly could've gone to the second round in one. When you play with Kobe Bryant, it helps. Bynum has developed into an all-star caliber center (So far this season). Turiaf got a nice contract and is living up to it. Vujacic at least had a decent run in the 08 finals. Luke had his moments against the Pistons

WHAT THE HECK HAS FARMAR DONE? Nothing he still sucks. HE HAS probably regressed. It is time to rid of the last crap player from those years. TRADE HIS A**

Los Angeles' full name is El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de Los Angeles de Porciuncula -- and can be abbreviated to 3.63% of its size: L.A.

Just more junk to pass the time.

Nemaia,

In 20 games Pau should have been back, Artest should be in sync. The Dynasty would be rolling by then. Drew's contributions would be a luxury not a necessity. Hear from you then.

The Artest for Ariza "swap" was all about present capabilities for potential capabilities.

Same with the Gasol trade. The Lakers got a lot of "present capabilities", Memphis got a lot of potential, at least equal to the "present capabilities" of Pau, probably greater. Whether they use it wisely is another issue.

ONE TEAM – ONE FAMILY
Remember how proud we were, when we finally got over the hump
Remember then, we said with a grin, no player on this team should we dump
Then why the hell is dissension here, after playing 3 little games
If we won it once we can win it again, if the team remains the same
The one place where help was really needed, we got, watch out Lebron
Try running our lane & you’ll feel the pain, from our enforcer Ron-Ron
Yes Arriza we all really liked and a Laker we wish he could still be
But as the season goes on, you’ll sing a new song, As we make history
Now that we are champs once again our toughnes teams will try to test
But Ron don’t play, and they’ll slink away cause they want no part of his mess
Instead of one superstar point guard, we have 4 good ones to bring on line
Sasha can score and Jordan run the floor & with Dfish & Shannon we’ll be fine
We have so much firepower that it’s really a sight to see,
There’s Pau & The Beast & if their shots cease we also have Kobe
So let the League have a lil hope, as the Lakers adjustment begins
Cause it won’t be long, all doubt will be gone and another title we will win
Why do we have so many trolls, by now it should be plain to all
They also want to see, the beginning of history and they know their team will fall
So after a loss don’t panic, Sometimes a loss is what’s called for
Sometimes a mistake, shows adjustments to make, to make you better than before
We are the World champ[ Lakers, Every player has a part to play
So layoff Luke and Jordan to boot, we gone need them both one day.

(01) LAKERTOM CO-OWNER
(02) MAMBA24 –DRIVER – I AGREE
(032) KEIFO – RIDING SHOTGUN
(04)#4 - Even if his offense sucked, his defense makes him a better complement to Kobe than Farmar.
(05) DOC4daLakeShow - Glad to see Shannon get the run.
(06) JON K - Brown has shown us glimses of potential for us to get excited about.
(07) THE OUTLAW - Shannon Brown is a keeper, no doubt about it. I like that guy's energy and hustle. Nice three-ball from the corner, too. I didn't expect that
(08) BABY OUTLAW – Waaaaaa Shannon Brown.

(13) Sir CHARLES –
(14) NEMAIA FALETOGO - Shannon is more athletic, stronger and a better defender than Farmar
(15) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - I would like to roll with the Shannon Brown's a Keeper bandwagon s'il vous plait. That was a GREAT amount of burn for the kid. I was watching him off-ball last night and he was very active, focused and looked ready to explode from his energy & enthusiasm. I like it a lot! Hopefully this is the kick Jordy needs to get his act together and his ass in
(16) utzworld THE BANNER HOLDER - put me on the Shannon Brown bandwagon, por favor. He's most def gunnin for Jordan's (and Fish's) spot.
(17) TALIQ - not only can he play but every minute he spends on the floor means less of farmar refusing to pass to kobe's bff, i.e. sasha"
(19) JOHNNYP - How crucial is Shannon Brown when we have this bench slump going on?
(19) EDWIN GUECO - To all PG's of the league "They either slow down with Shannon or get mowed down." (20) JAMIE SWEET – GO SHANNON –(It’s always good to keep your options open)
(20) LAILA - shannon brown was awesome
(21) ChicNstu |- UPS ..Thats what Brown can do for you!
(22) EASTCOAST-JESSIE - I also have to say that Shannon Brown is getting lot's of love from me. The kid is ridiculously athletic and his defense is much better than Farmar's.
(23) LONGTIMELAKERLOVER - I'd love to be on the Shannon Brown bandwagon. Love his passion and committment! Go Brown!
(24) JEFF - ShanWOW's a thrill to watch, he's my new favorite laker not named Kobe or Pau.
(25) BILLY IN SLO - Great attitude + great ability = Great player and teammate
(26) JUSTIN - I'll admit, I'm definitely on the SB bandwagon. Excluding LO, he is simply our Bench Mob X factor. As Shannon raises up, the crowd goes wild.

BENEFITS OF LOSSES AND INJURIES...

1. Loss to Dallas ~ seems to have quieted the silly talk of 72+ wins. Let the others chase that number and spend precious capital on it. WE need to look no further than our own history to see how important it is to playing well AFTER the All-Star break. Those wins and momentum are what lead to championships... no matter who has homecourt advantage.

2. Injury to Pau ~ too many "blessings in disguise" to detail effecting Gasol's rest, Bynum's minutes, Lamar's expanding confidence, etc. And again, losing Pau for a stretch of games in November is a distant, fading, long-forgotten memory when the team is peaking late in the season and into the playoffs. By the way, this is also very true when evaluating Artest; give the man some space and time to get in stride!

3. RE ARIZA ~ please don't EVEN try to compare his numbers with Artest's numbers this year. The facts are clear,,, the move was good for BOTH players and BOTH organizations. Trevor has room to grow his game in Houston. Artest room to chase championship in LA. Trevor would NEVER have opportunity in LA to consistently get up the dozen to 15 shots per game he will get in Houston (thus, more numbers). If you really want to see how much Ariza is improving, keep an eye on how his D improves or slips as his offensive numbers expand.

4. BENCH MOB SUGGESTIONS...
--SASHA-- stand still, spot up, and take the shot the team delivers you... enough with the hyper-activity. To quote the great Wizard of Westwood, "Never confuse activity with accomplishment."
--JORDAN-- slow down and see the WHOLE court,,, the triangle offers options to EITHER weak or strong side... and consult Wizard of Westwood on activity
--WALTON-- watch video of Magic passing; then watch video of Stockton passing; take cues from Stockton, please
--POWELL-- after practice, could you work with Sasha and D-Fish on their shots?

Mike

Good morning Mamba24 & the fabulous Laker morning CRUE!!!

GAME DAY BABY!!!!

Excellent poem to start the day, Mamba24. Thank you for all you do...

phred - I am currently in full "starve the troll" mode. Glad to have you aboard. There's nothing worse than giving them a morsel or crumb to fight over. It's just plain cruel (although highly entertaining).... But as you say - it's all about the love, right? So love your neighborhood troll. Starve him & put him out of our misery.

GO LAKERS!!!

Nothing but another title will suffice.

EXCELLENT POST LAKER MIKE!

About the only thing there is to really discuss besides the losses that will mount without St. Pau out of the line-up is the trading deadline and what kind of deals can be made to get a point guard.
Certainly the Front Office can make a deal with someone who will take on the expiring contracts of Adam Morrison and Farmar. You can also trade Derek Fisher. That's nearly 12 million
Yes I said Derek Fisher. Bye Bye Fish and thanks for the memories. Only a quality point guard is missing on this team.

Laker Mike,

Nice suggestions on the bench mob. If I may add, their objective as always is to improve what the starters have initiated. Therefore, it is not wise to gamble on those blind passes or going thru a crowded lane unless it has been perfected in practices. Why not execute the triangle on its merits like going with Drew on the inside and kick it out to Sasha or Shannon or Farmar on the outside, shoot it if unguarded and those people standing around the posts should go for follow ups and rebounds. (If our young players today would just watch how those old veterans do it like Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, Happy Hairston, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Dave Debuchere, the basketball flow is simple and its basic elements don't change, no fancy passing or too much gambling that leads to T/O. Yes, when those fanciness are successful, it elicits "Wow" which tinkers the youth's exuberance or enjoyment. However, that's only a temporary achievement, the work of the reserve must be consistent and must stick with the coach's objective. ( If we translate this into battle lines, the navy seals and marines have initiated the attack, our reserves are the army who will resume the advances while repulsing any counter offensive. Any exhibition of heroism of one is just pure gravy, the action of one should coordinate with the action of the whole.)

ONE TEAM – ONE FAMILY
Remember how proud we were, when we finally got over the hump
Remember then, we said with a grin, no player on this team should be dumped
Then why the hell is dissension here, after playing 3 little games
If we won it once we can win it again, if the team remains the same
The one place where help was really needed, we got, watch out Lebron
Try running our lane & you’ll feel the pain, from our enforcer Ron-Ron
Yes Arriza we all really liked and a Laker we wish he could still be
But as the season goes on, you’ll sing a new song, With Ron we’ll make history
Now that we are again champs, our toughnes teams will try to test
But Ron don’t play, and they’ll slink away cause they want no part of his mess
Instead of one superstar point guard, we have 4 good ones to bring on line
Sasha can score and Jordan run the floor & with Dfish & Shannon we’ll be fine
We have so much firepower that it’s really a sight to see,
There’s Pau & The Beast & if their shots cease we also have Kobe
So let the League have a lil hope, as the Lakers adjustment begins
Cause it won’t be long, all doubt will be gone and another title we will win
Why do we have so many trolls, by now it should be plain to all
They just want to be, a part of history, & watch a real team play ball
So after a loss don’t panic, Sometimes a loss is what’s called for
Sometimes a mistake, shows adjustments to make, to make you better than before
We are the World champ[ Lakers, Every player has a part to play
So layoff Luke and Jordan to boot, we gone need them both one day

Every fan in the association wants what we have, This season is the start of their end.
Put on the ring but make room for another, It is inevitable Dynasty 4 now begins. @VMan

That is why we love you so much. The trade fanatics are forgetting that NOT ONLY did we win it all BUT ALSO we already have two major upgrades over last year – Ron Artest and a healthy Andrew. We will be fine until Pau returns and then we will dominate everybody – without any trades.

Tom

Kobe gambles on man continually and gets burned over and over, what the deal, just play zone or man to man lock down. You can't keep jumping in the passing lane hoping for steals.

- phred

We get it phred
You want us dead!

Starve the troll - but continue to talk to it like it wasn't even there - very passive aggresive, phred.
Abuse? What abuse? Did I miss something in your elegant posts? Just a lot of hypocrisy about respecting others regardless of what teams they root for. Nice attitude towards others, man. Great job. Makes me want to turn my 8 and 6 yr olds into lakers fans for life. Why don't you grow a pair and talk to me, instead of THROUGH me? More hypocrisy. But, don't worry, prayers for a Win tonight are in a couple of hours and I'm sure you'll be there!!

Much love to you, phred.

BTW - if Kevin Durant is worrysome to the lakers, why hasn't Phil spoken to Artest yet about how to guard him?
Just asking, is this often done, or does Phil actually CARE how Durant will be guarded?

Have a great day and happy posting!!

Outstanding roll call this morning, Mamba24. Thanks for all that you do for this blog.

Go Lake Show!

sigh where are those MRI results ... this ain't good ... this ain't us ... the equation is all jacked up right now ... Bynum, Odom or Artest we can afford to lose ... Pau stands on his own in the equation ... we need our quiet confidence back yo ... we need gasoline to burn the competition

24 + 16 + [3|1]7 = The Purple Tinted Golden Age

LakerTom as always, thank you sir!

Thanks for all that you do for this blog. Go Lake Show!
