Kobe's Dream Shake

Hoping to gain some insight into what Kobe Bryant learned working with former Rockets great Hakeem Olajuwon this summer?  Sorry.

"I don't talk about my appointments with the master shogun. Those are sacred," he said with a smile at practice Wednesday afternoon. The Dream has said his moves are well suited for agile guard/forward types like 24. Whatever he learned, and my guess is it's a lot, Kobe will have ample opportunity to put his new moves to use. "I'm a post player anyway," he said. "As a guard. 80% of the time I'm in the post."

Asked why he sought Olajuwon out, his answer was simple. "To learn." Another potential response: "Because he was really *#()@*&$ good." Kudos to Bryant for keeping it clean. Anyhoo, look for some of this once the season kicks off.

In other news, Kobe says defensively this has the potential to be the best team on which he's played.

Click below for some Bryant video, as well as words from Phil Jackson, Ron Artest, and Derek Fisher.

BK

Here's Kobe:

Last week, Jackson talked extensively about the process of integrating Artest into LA's offensive and defensive systems during training camp. Today, he said the more complicated work in that effort comes on offense.

Fisher talks about the increased maturity and "calm" he's noticed in Artest over the past few seasons, guessing that some of it has to do with the type of serious family issues that can make a guy grow up fast. Certainly Fish can identify. It all continues to support my position that, despite all of Artest's eccentricities (they're real) and his passion for media, fan interaction, and promotion (it's genuine), the concerns about Artest tearing a hole in LA's well woven fabric are overwrought. That's not a guarantee that he'll fit, but if Artest doesn't pan out this year, it'll be about how it didn't mesh on the floor. Just sayin'.

UPDATE: Players aren't the only ones who show up to camp hoping to earn a job, or at least build a reputation that'll help land one down the line. One interesting thing I forgot to mention- among the assistant coaches brought into camp is 1987 Rookie of the Year Chuck Person. The Rifleman himself. (Nicknamed that not only because of his reputation as a gunner but also, I'm guessing, because his middle name is Connors. I'm not making that up.)

Person is one of a small group of coaches who will be with the team through the month. Whether he has a job after that remains to be seen, but it's an interesting wrinkle to camp of which I really hadn't been aware until now. Kevin Ding of the OC Register has more here.

So I see West finally made it to camp with Shaq and LeCrab

West could still face a league suspension after he was recently arrested for gun possession in Maryland. Police pulled over his three-wheel motorcycle for a traffic violation and found he was carrying three loaded weapons -- two handguns and a shotgun in a guitar case

Makes Artest look like a choir boy.

GO LAKERS!

NBA great Reggie Miller {on NBA Real Training Camp Live Stream} :

Q : What to you see for the 2009-10 Lakers?

RM : "I think the Lakers, considering their team of Gasol, Kobe, Artest, and considering their schedule, are poised to challenge the 1996 Bulls` record of 72 wins. Their schedule, their first 21 games, 4 of them on the road...one against OKC...one against Houston...one against Denver. OK, let`s call that a loss...against GS...the Lakers should be 20-1 after their first 21 games."

Q : So, you`re picking them to repeat as champions?

RM : "No, I like the BOSTON CELTICS."

Posted by: RED`S LOVE CHILD | October 01, 2009 at 03:28 PM

Well, then i must pray to Reggie.

I believe Allen Iverson has something to say. Go ahead Allen:

"Prayer? We talkin 'bout prayer? Not a game, not a game, not a game, we talkin 'bout prayer. Not a game. Not a game I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the game. We talkin 'bout PRAYER man! I mean, how silly is that? We talkin 'bout prayer. I know I'm supposed to lead by example, I know that and I'm not shoving it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important. I do, I honestly do. But we talkin 'bout PRAYER man. What we talkin 'bout?... Prayer. We talkin 'bout prayer man! We talkin about prayer! We talkin about prayer, we ain't talkin about the game. We talkin about prayer, man!... ... How the hell can I make my team better by praying??"

Amen, Allen. Amen.

I do have fun on this blog. Thats why I come back. You can bash the Celtics all you want. And Ill continue to bash the Lakers. I dont take it personally (even if you call me a nitwit)

Im just sad thinking of poor Ali ... all the work he did and for what? Doesnt mean anything cuz it was in the 60s and 70s. What a shame!

How bout Deacon Jones they didnt even count his sacks ... Leonard Little has more sacks than Deacon since 1980.

Not to mention Jim Brown all that work down the drain cuz it happend in the 60s. Id like to hear Laker fan tell Jim Brown that he sucked cuz his career was waaaaaay back in the 60s. SNAP!

What up CRUE!!

I haven't been able to post much lately, but have finally caught up on all the threads.

Some SERIOUS back & forth with LakerTom & Blitz.
Some IDIOT trolls touting the Smeltics (that never gets old).
Some newbies looking to change the blog/sync/think dynamic.

Wow. I thought by now people would be going crazy with excitement about the season finally being upon us and this Lakers team looking like it could be the greatest OF ALL TIME!!!

Why the negativity? Why the arguments over whether or not God is a Laker fan? (Which we all know he is...:))

COME ON - FOR THE LOVE OF GOD (pun intended) - GET IT TOGETHER!! Focus on what's just ahead of us on the horizon - an unbelievably great Laker team that has the potential to not only REpeat - but 3peat - and even more after that.

We are poised to dominate the next decade. The next FREAKING DECADE!!! How many teams have that potential? NO ONE. We stand alone at the pinnacle - looking down at the rest of the league - flashing our latest ring - hungry for more and talented enough to achieve it. There is no stopping us.

GET EXCITED LAKER NATION!

WE ARE THE FREAKING LOS ANGELES LAKERS - WHO THE HELL ARE YOU???????

LAL Fan.....Im a 5,8 power forward...lol...

Some Kobe and RA stuff. Interesting.

Here's a guy saying why ignore the sixties all while implying we should ignore the 50s, 70s, 80s, 00s. Ignores all the times the Lakers ACTUALLY showed up to the finals to represent the West, no matter the outcome, yet for 13 of our championships, you were NO SHOWS. Shame!

Are we going to ignore all the times the Lakers were there, and the Celtics were not? Not showing up is a bigger deal because you failed to even top your own conference. And you hold it against the Lakers, basically an expansion team moving out west, for showing up against a well-established Boston Celtic team in the 1960s.

I will not ignore the 60s and most of all, I will not ignore the 13 times the Celtics could not even represent their conference when we showed up and won it! The Lakers beat the team that beat you! that makes us MUCH better than you, not just a team you beat in a series. Don't you know how the NBA works?

Most recently the Celtics failed to represent and lost to the Magic...and lost a game 7 AT HOME. So much for the mystique, it just stinks. KG, with all the talent, and all the intensity, failed to manage his own ego and wrote checks his body, specifically his knee, could not cash. Great teammate there....

For 13 laker championships, you were nowhere to be found. The Lakers were better than the team that was better than you....sometimes, you didn't even make the playoffs you were so horrible, LOL. That's WEEEAAAKKK!

-little chicken little, LOL

HAHA, Nice.

5 reasons Kobe will be GOAT

http://tinyurl.com/y8fznq5

Hey Lakers Fans I am looking at NBA TV and Andrew is looking good. He is moving & running very well with the BRACE. James Worthy just said that it maybe a mental thing because Andrew feel good with the brace. So lets get back to Lakers Basketball and leave the other B.S off this Blog. I like to read some of the comments but some of you guys are forgetting that we all are Lakers Fans.
"Peace Brothers"

Hey Jon K: Correction, i am not a "brother," I am a "sister." Okay i thought you knew that since i've been on this blog since it started. Anyway just a correction brother!

Does anyone else think the Lakers will lose to the Clippers on ring night?

We all know the Celtic trolls here are really Lakers fans pretending to be greenies.

But my question is, who is the pretender? Do we really care?

THE RING MASTER…

The single biggest positive from the last few days blast of news is that Phil Jackson is looking good and feeling up to the challenge of leading the Lakers to repeat this year and then three-peat next year. If you haven’t noticed, Phil is in the habit of collecting NBA rings in sets of three. He has done that twice before with MJ and the Bulls and once before with Kobe and Lakers. With a repeat and three-peat the next two years, Phil would be in a position to retire with twelve rings in four sets of three.

The thing that the Phil bashers don’t get is that it is not a coincidence that every time Phil has had a team win the NBA championship, he has been able to get that team to repeat and then three-peat. What more could you say about a coach’s ability not only to develop teams into champions but also to keep them hungry and continuing to play at a championship level once they’ve gotten there? You always hear how hard it is to repeat but nobody ever gives Phil the credit he deserves for keeping his teams on top once they become champions. In many ways, that’s harder than getting there.

That’s why I am not worried about he Hollywood antics and celebrity distractions. Phil is the Ring Master who knows how to keep players focused, the chemistry working, the team developing. He know which buttons to push and gives players the freedom to be creative along with the responsibility to be team oriented. He is the team teacher, mentor, motivator, philosopher, and choreographer. Bottom line, he knows how to stay on top once he’s gotten there. That is the Lakers biggest edge.

You would think the prognosticators out there picking the Celtics and Cavaliers to win this year would hesitate for a minute and think about betting against Phil Jackson NOT repeating and three-peating. Unfortunately, guys like Reggie Miller have a career to pimp and going against the grain always is worth a few thousand clicks in this slick media driven world. You can probably bet that when Kobe corners him in a dark alley, he will quickly confess up that he secretly knew the Lakers were best.

Anyway, only the fools are betting against the Ring Master. X, XI, and XII hats for Phil.

Tom

Jon K,

I was out of pocket until now, but just wanted to let you know I hear you brother. Whatever you believe is what you believe and it's cool with me.

Cause what do we play for? RINGS!!!!

1) Don't feed the trolls.

2) Let's actually watch some ball being played before talking up Lakers-Celtics. The West is no walk-through. Nuggets pretty much return intact and have playoff experience. Spurs are always a threat (it hasn't been THAT long since they won their last championship) and made good moves in the off-season. Magic have Finals experience and I have a feeling the LeBron-Shaq experiment will work a lot better than people are giving credit for.

3) As for Bynum, no comment. It's "Show me what you got" with Bynum. I'm hoping he'll fulfill his promise but we'll see.

4) Of course the big question for me at the moment is: "Can the Dodgers win one measly game to win the pennant in 7 tries? Down to 3 now..."

Why do celtic fans always insist on coming to laker blogs and gloat about their team? No one cares, it's a Lakers blog for a reason. It's also a bit premature to guarantee that the Celtics will win the championship especially because Garnett over there can barely play.

Mr. Nano,

"We don't care about religion differences, we respect each other, even non believers respect Utz prayers.

We are from from all over the world, so races, countries and religion are irrelevant, because we respect each other like a big family."

THAT'S what I'm talking about! Right the hell on!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

hyacinth,

"Hey Jon K: Correction, i am not a "brother," I am a "sister." "

Correction appreciated.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Fatty,

"Does anyone else think the Lakers will lose to the Clippers on ring night?"

No. Clippers will play hard, but it will not be nearly enough.

Go Clippers!!!

GO LAKERS!!!!

Jacqueline,
I personally do not come on here to gloat. There is nothing to gloat about. WE LOST. I come here because Boston.com is filled with laker trolls who DO gloat. I have not gloated once, merely stated that there ARE other good teams out there besides the one in LA, and you are in for a major letdown if you don't repeat. I never gloated last year, either. If you were on Boston.com, I actually chastised people for gloating, because we were one injury away from not repeating. And so are you, that is reality. I actually want a Boston-LA Finals every year. There is nothing like it in all of sports.
Troll - someone who trash talks and shows no respect on another's blog - therefore, I am not a troll, I have great respect and even FEAR for the lakers.
Finally, the "praying thing". I re-iterate, it is my OPINION that this is not the place for prayer. I highly doubt God cares about the NBA, and Jesus would probably tell you to sell your season tickets and give the money to the poor. That is an OPINION. Doesnt' make me any better or any worse than anyone else on here. I thought getting along with people was the message of Christianity??? Pray if you want to, and for whom you want to, but I do not share that view. And I have read the Good Book cover to cover, and no one mentions the lakers.
Have great day all!!
Go CELTICS AND lakers!!

OwenfromBoston: "I re-iterate, it is my OPINION that this is not the place for prayer..."

That's why God invented scroll bars - so you can ignore the stuff that you don't intend to read.

The Game Day Prayers will continue, haters be damned.

utz - do what you want, but don't accuse a total stranger of being a Non-Christian because he doesn't believe exactly the way you do. A hater? Of what? Don't hate anyone, don't hate the lakers!! Yankees, maybe.....:)

People come in all shapes and sizes. You don't know me from Adam, how can you judge me, that is God's job, not yours. Many other people agreed with me yesterday. You wrote,"I respectfully disagree with you...." to all but me. To me, you wrote I was not a Christian, don't throw the first stone, read the Bible.....HOW DARE YOU - you don't even know me, or what I do when I'm not on here blogging, or my religious convictions at all. You, sir, are a hypocrite. And Jesus hated the hypocrites.
