Elonu to Spain

The last, nay only, hope for a 2009 Lakers draftee to land on the Lakers roster has officially crossed the Atlantic. Second round pick Chinemelu Elonu has signed a two year deal with Spanish club team Zaragoza, reports the Daily News. The terms allow him to opt out after the '09-'10 season.
Given that Elonu had as much chance of making the team as you or I, it's really a winning move for all involved. The Texas A&M product gets a chance to develop his game, make some money, and learn about tapas. The Lakers get to keep his rights.
As you were.

Mmm, tapas are delicious.

Hey, perhaps this is the thread to ask this question. I need a Chuck Nevitt jersey for my son. Is there a way to get one, or am I out of luck. I can remember the Lakers fans chanting nevitt, nevitt in blowouts waiting for him to come in.
A bit obscure, but no Mike Smrek

ake- your point is...?

"Please this guy is a Nigerian just like Okafor

you did not get my point dude, with Sun Yue, his name was always preceeded by "Chinese"..........and I found that is not the case with all players of unknown background....perfect example Elonu....how am I supposed to know his heritage. I am just trying to point out that in Sun's case he was hounded/pounded/crucified for being Chinese......wanna argue against that?
"Please...." like I know a Nigerian versus another African country.....let's take M'Benga for example, over time, Congo comes to my head, I don't know if that's a country or a region...and please don't insult my intelligence.
My bigger point being, it should never be brought up excessively as it was with Sun, Yi, and Yao......and the guy the Phoenix Suns were thinking about Yuta Tabuse, is Japanese, but I think he's out of the picture....never saw any of his game, but Sun has game for a 22-23 year old, who is years from peaking.
They are players with numbers. Just my opinion, chuck it if you think I'm being Pettty, cuz I'm not a Heartbreaker.

and as if everyone knows a about Okafor, other than that he can't shoot, or some other major weakness in his game...looks great on paper but does not work in the real world....

Well, well, speaking of Nigerians?
Emeka Okafor is a role model--both academically and physically. It is not ony what they do during their BBall career, but what happens thereafter.
Oh, the last time I checked Hakeem Olajuwon is a Nigerian. Christian Okoye is a Nigerian. The richest African American man is Kase Lawal is a Nigeria--making his money the right way--not just sitting and gossiping like Oprah.
I have seen many Nigerian professors in the three universities I attended. I have read many books by Nigerians. They are very smart, boy.

Now with only 3 years left on his outrageous 3-year contract (about $6M this year), if the Lakers can shed some of their cheaper baggage and throw in, plus a future 1st rounder, could they pick up David Lee for at least one year for, say, $8M -- which I bet Lee would take for one year. This could keep the Laker's bigs running up and down the court on both O and D, and rest Pau for the end of the game -- much less keep them at full force if there's an injury. (With this team, a first round pick is of no value whatsoever unless its packaged with a LOT of other stuff to get a point guard). Lee's a smarter player than Bynum, has a better mid-range shot, and is a better match-up again certain offenses (pick-and-roll in particular if either Bynum or Pau is also in the game, since a few centers are too large for Lamar to handle. Moving Walton and others will keep cap space the same, and if they should lose Lee to more money next year, maybe they can work a sign and trade -- and get a cheaper player if the "winner" of Lee has cap space. Or they'll have a big man to trade for a point guard if their third guard doesn't develop -- or does so much that they can then trade Farmar, who will bring a good trade to the right team.

Glad to see Sun Lu in NYC. Even if he just rides the Knick's Pines, a great think for international B-ball, and the Chinese population in NY will to do a lot of live games, and it will add a lot of excitement to the Chinese community. The NBA is one of the few, albeit small, but pure peace movements left on this planet, and its nice to see beautiful things work out now and then.
