You will like this

Assuming you are a Lakers fan, of course. Reviewing the ol' Twitter this evening, I saw this pretty slick vid posted by Lakers Blog friend Eric Pincus of Hoopsworld. Lots of great Lakers moments and clips, including a veritable smorgasbord of Kobe Bryant and a nice recap of the '09 title run, plus a shot of Jason Kidd with blond hair I hope he'd prefer to forget.

Things like this (and this) are one more reason to love the Internet. Is the creator a pro? I have no idea. All I can glean from a quick overview of his home page on YouTube is he's a big Lakers fan living in Poland. Yet he took the time, very likely just for funsies, to create a video that'll make people halfway around the world all giddy. Good stuff. (How's that for your optimistic, let's-embrace-technology thought of the day? Who says the media are a bunch of cynical, puppy-hating killjoys?)

BK,

>>> Who says the media are a bunch of cynical, puppy-hating killjoys?

Speaking of puppy-hating killjoys, this gives me an excuse as a former Philadelphian to say how disgusted I am that the Eagles signed Michael Vick.

I'm not saying professional athletes must be held to a higher standard than the rest of us (although it would be nice), but how about the same standard? How many of us could find a job paying $1M+ only months after getting out of federal prison?

Americans love professional sports because it showcases individuals whom we admire. Does anyone really admire Michael Vick? After the thread on Lebron James failure to believe in good sportsmanship, the Vick thing is really a kick in the head.

That was dope. I'll even forgive the textual inaccuracies, though I would have happily edited. The video and audio editing, however, are genius. Thanks, Polish dude!

I will miss Ariza next year. Maybe he can come back some day just like Fisher did... To be continued...

My favorite video of the year!
Hey K bros, are there any kinds of awards for youtube videos out there? I would vote this as the best sports montage of the year award on youtube.

Fun to watch. Just flat out satisfying to watch.

To think, I have had the privilege to watch 9 championships. NINE with my own 2 eyes, and I've lost count of finals appearances. I will never doubt this franchise. They have given me no reason too. They win championships. They just do.

Can we find some way to sneak a little purple and gold into the new layout? Not a lot, just a hint will do. Like a little spray of purple and gold in some corner somewhere; maybe a sprinkle or a slash along one of the borders. I can't imagine the Celtics blog without some green somewhere, and ditto for the Lakers and their Forum blue. Can we get an official Lakersblog family crest maybe? Stick that baby in one of the corners with all its mysterious and colorful Laker iconography...

But I like the blog layout like this. The names of bloggers are more clear now, and darker to boot. It makes reading the names easier for me; I can see things at a glance.

Just more space between blogger comments would be great. I feel a little like an SUV trying to park in the corner space of a parking structure.

Oh yeah. I don't like doing double spaces to make a single space between paragraphs.

Wes

Rick Friedman,

You know how I feel about dogs.

Michael Vick displayed behavior that is completely congruent with developmental serial killer behavior: Torturing and killing defenseless animals.

The man is scum. I hope some linebacker who loves pitbulls cripples the guy the first time he steps back to pass.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!!

Rick Friedamn..

You know when a story like that is bad because it even makes it in the paper over here...

Vick should have been banned for life...

You buy a dog to be a companion, friend and family pet..

Not for money and fighting......

That whole Vick story makes me sick...

The video.....I sat down and watched the complete video with a smile..

Shaq was really good..Magic made me love the game..We have had some crazy good players play for the Lakers...wow..

Great video for all Laker fans!!

This was from the this years title winning DVD... the one that celebrates this years win. It's the opening sequence... literally gives me chills every time I watch it.

Amazing how much I love this team!!

Now let's go get 3 more!!!!!

i don't like it.... I LOVE IT!!!!!

BK

Muppet Wiki page is super-dope. Now I can find out all the most interesting things about the Swediah Chef that I always wanted to know.

Is it just me or has the creativity of the modern television show pretty much gone out the window? Sure, plots and language are darker and better exemplify the human condition. But most of it is done with shock value in mind as opposed to being illuminating or thoughtful.

Y'see, I've been watching the ol' Muppet Show using the power of the almighty Netflix and I have come to the conclusion that not only was Jim Henson a decent puppeteer, but a genius when it came to reaching people through a television set and bringing the young, old, cynical and crotchety together using a bunch of felt, googly eyes and silly voices. Oh yeah, and explosions and lots of green smoke.

For an example I give you this epic clip from said show, http://tinyurl.com/ces3tg

That is Peter f'ing Sellers, he also does a sweet gypsy number and so many accents that he Rich Little seem pedestrian. Who was also on the Muppet Show.

If you have kids and are looking for something different and accesible that you, too, can enjoy without feeling like you're going to explode with neon green teletubbiness, go with any Jim Henson produced feature or TV show pre-90s.

Oh yeah, the Laker tribute vid from Poland was pretty sweet, too.

happy 50th birthday to my basketball hero.... earvin "magic" johnson.... you truly are magic in every sense of the word...

Rick Friedman,
If you were one of the top .1 percent in your field (which Vick is for football players), you WOULD be able to get a job at whatever the market value was in your field after getting out of prison. The bottom line in our society is if you can make money for a company, you can get a job. Vick is not getting special treatment because he is an athlete.

Good morning Mamba24 & the fabulous Laker morning CRUE!!!

Jon K - soooooooooo happy to hear Delilah's doing well. Also, I happen to agree with you regarding LeBron. He's so much worse than an idiot. It will be a pleasure watching him self-destruct - with a little help from Shaq - this season.

Jamie Sweet - Hysterical Muppet Show link! I used to love watching that show, along with Fraggle Rock (giving away my age here). The best line is where he says a cigareet "has a fire on one end and a fool on the other" LOL!

BK - I never thought the media hated puppies. I'm pretty sure they all like puppies. I think it's cats they hate. What with the whole subverting human society and plotting the takeover of the planet and all....

Have a great day, peeps! It's WONDERFUL to be Laker's fan!!!!! ALL DAY - EVERY DAY!!!!

Jester-

I agree. I almost made reference to the grammar issues (clearly a language thing), but then though, Why? Felt to me like I was missing the point. Dude made a cool video.

BK

Good Morning Sir Charles, JustanotherMambafan, Jon K., Delilah, Laker Tom, #4,Thirty2,WesJoeNixon, Jamie Sweet& the rest of the Morning Crue. JustAnotherMambaFan I like your name for King James - Princess Jimmy - I cracked up when i read it. It would seem the Golden Child is not so Golden anymore. Of course he's not. He's fool's Gold. If you're looking for reaL Gold make sure it says Kobe Bryant on the package and you'll get your money's worth everytime.

Kambrothers love the new Blog but the comment box at the top simply has to go back to the bottom. other than that, thank you My Lords for a job well done. This alone shall assure you of at least a three peat in Blog Awards this year.

CALM DOWN JAMAMBAFAN, it's not even preseason yet. You'll be worn out by the time the season gets here! lol!

Jon k

Don't u think that's a little harsh? First u wish vick gets crippled by a linebacker now u think he should be banned for life? Sorry bout ur dog but that sounds like human cruelty to me

To think, I have had the privilege to watch 9 championships. NINE with my own 2 eyes, and I've lost count of finals appearances. I will never doubt this franchise. They have given me no reason too. They win championships. They just do.

Stick around I think you will have the privilege of watching quite a few more Championships. AND DYNASTIES!

First and foremost, happy birthday to Magic Johnson. Secondy, that friggin' video was HOT...I had a tear in my eye for a minute. It definitely helps those of us going through withdrawals at this time of year. I'm so excited for the new season to begin already. I can't wait!!!!!

Nice to see you all around too. Love the new format here. Hey Mamba, Rick, Jester, Jon, wes, excel, justa, and of course AK & BK. Hope you're all having a good summer.

That video brought a couple teary moments with it for me. Such a good montage of all the past great teams. I love that shot of Horry hitting the three against the Queens.

Jon K, I'm happy to hear Delilah came out of her surgery well. As an avid dog lover and owner, I can't imagine facing the death of my dog. He's a true member of my family. I'm so glad it was a viable option for her to lose her leg instead. Dogs can get along perfectly well without it, and if it means she gets to spend more time with you, then heck yes do it. Keep us posted on her progress.

Now - let's hurry up and be done with September so we can start with preseason. I'm seriously jonesin' for my team! And even though I'll miss TA, I'm looking forward to seeing what Thriller contributes. Ohhhh yes, it's gonna be a great season!

BK: "Is the creator a pro?"

I edit video professionally, and if this guy's not a pro, he's really doing the wrong thing for a living. There are some very sophisticated sequences here, CG misspellings notwithstanding.

BK: "Who says the media are a bunch of cynical, puppy-hating killjoys?"

Certainly not "puppy-hating." ;)

Happy Birthday Magic!

Mamba24, my man, I'm in it for the long haul. My wife and I have had honest discussions about how much cheaper it would be to live in other states. But I've told her under no uncertain terms, that I cannot move away from the Lakers. No way, no how. I just can't bring myself to do it.

BTW, put me down for Magic's 50th! You know I'm down to honor the greatest player ever. Michael who?

Hey EastCoastJessie how you doing? How’s your summer been?

BK: You're right. The text could have gone without mention. The clip itself was awesome.

EastCoastJessie: My similarly named sister, I hope your summer is awesome. Thanks for the shoutout. I can't wait for the new season either!

Jon K.: As much as I love the animals, I can't root for anyone to be crippled and I'm also a fan of redemption. People deserve second chances and Vick doesn't strike me as someone who couldn't be rehabilitated. But I could be wrong. Aside from all that, glad to hear our girl Delilah is on the mend! Be well, brother.

yellowfever,

Dogs have been shown to have the intelligence of a two year old child and the emotional complexity of roughly an eight year old child.

So, imagine instead of Michael Vick lynching, electrocuting, and drowning to death a bunch of "animals", instead imagine him massacreing a bunch of innocents with the self-awareness, discernment, and emotional empathy of a small child--because that's what he did.

Michael Vick isn't an innocent. He's a sadistic scumbag and people like him should be wiped off the map. It's people like HIM who are the whole reason that people need to be constantly aware in life because it is people like HIM who are at their core cruel, callous users.

I severely doubt his road to Damascus conversion. He's just putting on a public face so he can earn millions again.

Like I said, it is common behavior of serial killers to find enjoyment in torturing animals to death, so, in that sense, internally Michael Vick and most serial killers have a lot in common.

Fun stuff. Knowing this was created by a Polish fan, the poor grammar made it even more endearing for some reason.

Earvin, happy 50th to the greatest PG and greatest Laker that ever lived. May we Laker fans never take you for granted!

Great video but I only have one gripe. During the highlights of the Lakers at Boston game, the caption read, "Taking the Revange [sic]." It should be "Taking the [Revenge]" unless there is some other meaning behind the words. We all make spelling mistakes. Great video.

Marty-

Yeah, I really should have phrased it as "trying to make a buck" off the video or something. Clearly he's got some experience cutting video. My big point was that it seems like he, or at the very least a lot of people across different mediums, use their skills in really creative ways for no other reason than to make something cool about teams or players they love.

Pretty cool.

BK

Wow.

A lot of people thought Magic should be kept away from basketball, going so far as to refuse to shake his hand or play with him. It didn't stop him and I believe he forgave everyone who felt that way because they were uneducated about HIV/AIDS. You forgot to take that lesson from him, and your comment about Michael Vick being crippled shows your utter lack of compassion, possibly sense. I believe Michael Vick is a changed man and I don't see a reason for him to be banned from football for life. There are people who've committed murder who get more sympathy and understanding. Get over yourself.

What's up with the cluttered formating? It looks like crap.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

GO LAKERS!!!

Gigantic happy birthday wishes to my personal hero, the best basketball player of all time and medical miracle Magic Johnson, who celebrates his 18th birthday after announcing to the world he had HIV. Some crazy stats:

Of course, my favorite of all, The Game: Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals when Johnson, a rookie point guard started at center and put up 42/15/7 on the road. Think about that - people were all gaga over Derrick Rose pushing the Celts to 7 games this year (deservedly so - the guy is a house). Can you imagine what people would say today if a rookie had a game like this on the road playing out of position in a deciding championship game AND winning Finals MVP?

1980 Finals MVP, despite the fact that his teammate, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was the league MVP that season. Can you remember the last time a ROOKIE won Finals MVP, let alone on a team with that much greatness already on it?

12 NBA seasons, 9 NBA Finals appearances. Will the league ever see this kind of dominance again?

I spent the other night literally up all night watching classic Magic Johnson games on NBA TV. They had them all - the 6th game of the 1983 WCF at San Antonio, The Game mentioned above, Game 6 of the 1985 Finals versus the Leprechauns... it was awesome. What I remembered after watching this marathon is how freaking crazy Showtime really was. To call the 2007 Suns the reincarnation is nothign short of direspect. They were literally sprinting down the court on every possession, more often than not after a half-court pass by Kareem or Silk. The defense was back on its heels every single possession. This would never have been possible without Magic Johnson.

Magic Johnson was the greatest for one simple fact: he lived up to the hype, moreso that any other player in history. People knew he was going to be great from day one, and he delivered from day one - Finals MVP as a rookie?? Are you kidding me?

Happy Birthday Magic, the Greatest Of All Time. May you see many more!

Happy 50th man! You made me go liking basketball to falling in love with it. Sweet video! Gives me chills everytime.

Jon K,
" it is common behavior of serial killers to find enjoyment in torturing animals to death, so, in that sense, internally Michael Vick and most serial killers have a lot in common."

A before B does NOT mean that A leads to B. Comparing Michael Vick to serial killers, at whatever level, is totally ridiculous. And FWIW, wild statements like you made will lead people to ignore whatever validity your feelings might have, so you're actually hurting your cause.

SoCalGal,

And you base your opinion on what?

Upon your profound understanding that people who torture animals to death can be easily reformed?

How do you feel about serial killers? Do you feel that they have a right to a quick chance at redemption? Because almost all serial killers torture innocent animals to death in exotic ways (e.g. electrocuting or drowning them).

So, I guess you think serial killers should have a quick chance at redemption too then?

You get over yourself. Your shallow, conditional morality based upon forgiving a person because they have extreme athletic prowess just repulses me.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Happy birthday, Magic! His game was always a joy to watch and I missed it when he had to retire due to HIV. I'm glad that he's still around.

God is merciful...we are not. Therein lies the root behind the problems of the world - every last one of them. Who are we to disqualify anyone from God's mercy?

I want a bio-chrono reading on Michael Vick.

IT IS WHAT IT IS
They jailed him and flailed his reputation to nothing, But after what he did they had to do something
So they put him away and what do you know, He took it like a man while they took all his dough.
He did’nt plead or whine or try to use his fame, As they cast aspersions all over his name
I love animals most people do, but do you eat meat or wear shoes, Well do you?
Have you ever seen how food you eat is slaughtered, before you judge Vick, I think that you aught to.
The man served his time and paid a high price, Does he have to keep paying for the rest of his life
We just had a bandwagon to pray for a dog, it just shows the compassion here on the Laker Blog.
Is not a man entitled to the same regard, or in this case is your heart so hard.
We watch mixed martial arts where they are savage as can be, And a lot of us watch that with glee.
Sure the dogs did not choose to fight, But maybe the folks that did it didn;’t know it was not right
I know I will be attacked for my views, Trying to defend Vicks actions you can only loose.
But the man did his time and he paid the price, So why not let him get on with his life.
I know the dogs can’t get on with theirs, and for all that died they have my prayers
What we are talking about is a Man and humanity, If you are perfect raise your hand and let me see

AMEN utzworld THE BANNER HOLDER, AMEN!

Jonk
Say what?!?!. First of all I don't condone vicks cruel treatment of his by any means. Dogfighting is heinous and sadistic but don't u think u going up a very slippery slope comparing the value of a 2 year old human life to that of a dog?!? Then what about slaughtering cows or pigs or any other animal we consume or hunting as a sport for goose or deers? Don't other animals have feelings too and u do eat beef don't you?

My point is the man served his time and his punishment MORE than fit the crime esp considering stallworth killed a human and got 24 days in jail. Something fundametally wrong with our judicial system there in my opinion.

I'm just sayin he probably got it a lot worst than he deserved esp by our dog loving media and in our society where dog is a mans best friend? Btw didn't u say u served as a monk and tried dog meat before? Or was it cats?

Anyways JMO... I certainly hope this does not incite another dog loving debate here.

Best montage ever. Hands down.

AK/BK, you gotta contact this dude and make him a part of this blog.

I still get teary eyed (there, I said it) every time I see Fish drain those two three-pointers to complete the Season of Redemption. I remember how many of us, even on this very blog, vilified him as too slow, too old, and holding us back. I really can't see Farmar, or Brown, or whomever coming up big in those two spots at those two times. Those two weren't ready.

Fish was ready. Fish was always ready. Following his life story, we all should have known. We should have known, and shame on us for not believing.

Kobe believed. That should have been good enough for the rest of us.

We all know that Fisher is Kobe's "ride or die" on that team. You NEVER turn you back on that. Ever.

When those three went down, all that emotion, remembering everything he went through. I mean, they booed him in Utah after he had helped prolong their previous playoff run -- amidst extreme personal hardship and pain.

He took a pay cut to help his daughter. What more noble cause can there be? That would be like Lakers' fans booing Horry after he decided to leave us for similar reasons. I know I speak for most of us here, Horry is a Laker for life.

Because of what they did to Fish, I hate Utah fans almost (but not equal to) as much as I hate Celtic fans.

That smile on his face. Some humble. So ... vindicated. Chokes me up every time. I don't know if I've ever seen humility, victory and class in one expression before. Those are Derek Fisher.

Whoever Polish Dude is. He's got chops.

We need to start a Find the Polish Dude and Invite Him to the Blog bandwagon.

Just my $.02

Keep saving those footages, expect another one next year.

John K / R. Friedman,

Being a dog owner myself, I am in no way advocating dog fighting but try to think about it from Vick's perspective. Dog fighting was part of the culture he grew up in. It's no different than someone who grew up to enjoy hunting. I find hunting reprehensible, but it would be narrow minded to suggest that people who hunt are scumbags that do not deserve to live. They were simply taught from an early age that shooting defenseless animals from a distance is a fun and normal activity. Vick broke the law and has paid his dues. He deserves a chance at redemption.

Mamba24 - LOL - this is me being calm. You should have seen me after WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON WE WON!!!!! LOL!!!!!

Mamba24 - I can't take credit for coining the name "Princess Jimmy" - I stole it from someone on here (can't remember who).

BUT - I'm making it my own. Princess Jimmy - this girl is waaaayy to sensitive. (And that's giving girls a bad name).

This is why I don't like discussing the personal lives of athletes. They just aren't like us.

As for my opinion...if it doesn't involve family or loved ones, its hard for me to stay angry at someone. I don't know them, nor do I believe athletes, celebrities, and the like deserve any sort of credit as moral compasses just because of their place in life.

In those cases, I tend to think that I can forgive someone if they never forgive themselves and change their lives for the better.

"You get over yourself. Your shallow, conditional morality based upon forgiving a person because they have extreme athletic prowess just repulses me."

Jon K., you don't know one thing about me, yet because I think forgiving a man who has served the sentence he was given for his crime, you are repulsed by me? And you're seriously saying that because Vick ran a dogfighting ring, he's in the same class as Dahmer or Gacy? Last I read, you don't know Michael Vick, only what you've read and heard. Now from one comment I've made, you believe my morality is conditional on the athletic prowess of a football player. I read all of your posts throughout the season, and have long ago come to the conclusion that you really are full of yourself, thinking that you speak for all Lakers fans. I don't really care if you are repulsed by me. The fact remains that killers get more compassion and sympathy from some people. Michael Vick, on the other hand, should be crippled in your opinion. Who's more repulsive?

Humanomoly;

I don't mind the pay scale - where in the world did you get this idea? I believe my point was that LeBron sucks no more than Kobe - perhaps I should've stopped right there.

Mike Vick, look what you've done! You've splintered the Laker family!

Lakers. Butterflies. Rainbows. Flowers. Waterfalls. Smiley faces. Cooing babies. Fuzzy baby penguins making friends with fuzzy baby seals. Megan Fox.

I think we all need to take a deep breath and go to our happy place...

...(*Day Dreaming*)...

...Ahhhh. I feel better already! (Personally, I was thinking about all these things at once... it was kind of like an acid trip if I were 4 years old)

We must unite on Magic's 50th Birthday! If we're going to pick a fight, at least pick it with a Celtic fan!

I'm totally on that Polish dude bandwagon. He should join the blog family, the Lakers should hire him to do the video montage that they do before games, and he should get us all into games for free! My plan has NO flaws!

NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!!!

Just what I thought - Magic with a hook shot of twelve . . GOOOOOOOOD! Happy Birthday Magic Johnson - the NBA and all of it's fans love you.

That video was truly amazing. The maker of that video has done an amazing job, and it nearly brought tears to my eyes.

Since I am 19 years old, those 2 fisher shots will probably remain as one of the greatest shots I have seen in NBA history. I was not as big of a fan when I was younger, but I have been avidely watching the Lakers for 2 years now and I am obsessed. Even though the Horry shot is still high up there, nothing compares to those two Fisher shots, especially because I was crying 30 seconds before it because I thought the Lakers were going to lose. We all better see that shot, and Ariza's steals in one of those Amazing happens commercials.

Like most of you, I also hope that Ariza comes back to LA one day. He'll always be a Laker to me.

OMG! This is the best video-I have to comment! I hadn't had a chance to check it out but boy is it worth it. I read this blog every day and was ok with just reading but this video was just awesome I had to post. LOL It literally brought tears to my eyes, soo many memories!
