The Finals, where delicious happens
I realize the Lamar Odom candy thing has been blown up beyond all reasonable proportions... but this is pretty cool. It seems the folks at Wrigley have designed a special version of the Larry O'Brien trophy specifically for LO, made from Skittles, Starburst, Sour Gummi Tape, Life Savers Gummies, and Hubba Bubba:
How's that for extra incentive to polish off the Magic?
BK

wowww, are they going to give that to LO? haha~

Lakers need to close this Sunday. With all your heart, with all your soul. Everything you got. No pain. No Pain.
Posted by: never | June 12, 2009 at 11:33 PM
And then you have dummies like Jon M.
In his 18 years coaching, he is one win away from his tenth title. That is flat out amazing! He has been to the Finals twelve times in those 18 years. No other coach in the modern era is even close. That is dominance. You would have to go back to when the league had ten teams to see such consistency. To say it was luck with no strategy, inspiration, communication or motivation involved would require an IQ less than 70, which seems to be the threshold for most trolls.
Congrats Jon M, you get to ride the short bus.
>>>>
Now, what can you say about Phil Jackson? This ring will fill all his 10 fingers. The only thing I can say about him is: He is just the luckiest coach, the luckiest coach in the world. Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Horry’s buzzer shot, Fisher’s 0.4 sec, and now this Fisher’s do-or-die shots. He is just the luckiest coach.
But what do I think of him? Unless one day he can demonstrate a consistent dominance, game time strategy changing, just-in-time motivation, team inspiration, game time individual coaching, show more emotion, good rotation of the bench players, and the most importantly, good communication with each player; I still don’t think much of him.

I saw First and Ten and I must say that Skip Bayless is close to being committed. That guy must be phenin on something. Guess he's going crazy knowing that his chances of seeing Kobe and the Lakers fail are dwindling just like his career.
He's just like your most hated newstation [whatever that may be]. You only watch to see what crap he spews.

My fellow Laker fans, even though that was a great game last night and for just a split second, in the waning moments of the game I entertained the thought of us losing and going 2-2 in the series. I swear to God, I told my friend these exact same words right before the game started and that little girl was signing the anthem:
"The Lakers are gonna bust her streak just like they did to the Celtics, the Cavs, and the Nuggets!"
Last night's game was very thrilling and even though I'm holding out on us winning Sunday, since we have yet to show the killer instinct at first sight (The drubbing we gave Houston in game 7 and Nuggets in Game 6 doesn't count). However, this is the title and I think Kobe will play his best game yet.
Its amazing how the idiots over at Truehoop still found a way to bash Kobe with the "get out of my way and let me do it offense" talk or the rectangle offense nickname they have going. Freaking losers! The guy is averaging 8 assists per game and I think 7 (closer to 8) rebounds per game. He is balling, those are his best non-scoring numbers of his FInals career ever. And with the exception of last night he hasn't taken over thirty shots and was not a volume shooter. Alot of of those were shots he normally makes ignoramus!
Pau Gasol needs to get the ball MORE, I mean there is no way Howard can seriously defend that guy without fouling ! As for Howard? He is as predictable as Lebron James, Kareem was right. look at every shot he takes, its always one or the other or a dunk. Wanna know how good the Laker defense is, I think Howard has only a total of 5/6 dunks in the series (stat gurus correct/back me up on that please).
We did a good job on Lewis. I can't wait for the series to be over so Bynum could go work on his body and his game. I think, at 23, Trevor Ariza may have room to become a very, very, very good player. He has developed an outside shot, which still needs some work. This offseason he should work on midrange/post up game. If Ariza at 6ft 8in had a pretty decent post up game....trouble!
Sasha...i dunno, if he's a machine he must have gotten his parts from China. That guy jams more than my M-16 after a sandstorm.
Win or lose, I still think Phil Jackson should hang it up and not return. I'm dead serious. I mean, we don't need a superpanic like SVG. Did you guys see his press conference last night? The guy had more flipping going on than a shark pulled outta water.
Pau Gasol finally got tough, I went crazy when he got up in Pietruis' face. And Barry from ESPN had the nerve to suggest that Gasol deserved Pietrius' attempt to seriously hurt him because he shouldn't have tried to dunk? I mean, did the Celtics stop pouring it on us in that clinching game last year?
Maybe JB would have had our backs if we tried to damage the Celtic players in that game. It was 97-91 (I think) with maybe 6/7 seconds to go when Ariza had the ball in his hands. Anything could have happened. You score until the game in out of reach, you don't let your foot off the gas. The lakers needed that, its bad enough they don't have a killer instinct. But you know what, the words of anyone from ESPN can't irk me anymore. I was thinking back to when I worked there (Bristol) the company (ESPN/Disney) always referred to guys like JB, Jalen Rose, Stuart Scott, Stephen A. Smith as "talent". They are the most valued asset of ESPN Disney...the talents. (I didn't get fired by the way, I left because I found it hard to split time between the military and school). Alas, these men are entertainers, talents, a term used in Pro Wrestling business to describe the performers. Laker fans, don't take what they say too serious...

That should be more than enough to make LO smile.
Hey, Dwight, you of the "silliest" NBA team, you still smiling now? Or has Kobe finally wipe the smile off your face?

"People who can look past the fact that Jackson doesn't fit the profile of how coaches are "supposed" to act appreciate his greatness. THose who are too shallow to do that call him "lucky"."
Exactly Ex. The same people who consider Jackson "lucky" and a bad coach are the same people who thought Rick Adelman was a bad coach in Sacramento and only got lucky because he had Bibby, Divac, and Webber (before he blew out his knee), Stan Van Gundy is a bad coach (hey he made bad decisions in Game 4 but he did manage to get the Magic into the playoffs) and only got carried by Dwight Howard.
Hey why not also say that Red was an overrated coach and tell him he only won because of Bill Russell (who took the University of San Francisco to two national titles twice, USF btw should not be mistaken for a college powerhouse such as UCLA or UNC) and his greatness.
Coaching is a big part of winning and Jackson has more than often proved why he is one of the best, if not the best coach of all time. Only a fool would think that 10 rings are overrated and that a dude like Don Nelson would be a better coach.

Today i had a chance to sit down and watch the game again..Thats right again...I am going crazy...At the start of the 3rd i got up to help my wife get my daughter in the car to go shopping and when i returned they went on a run..So i stood in front of the TV for the rest of the game..My wife got back from the shops and asked why i was standing?,i replied "can we speak after overtime"...Her reply "your going crazy".

Dearest 131 -92,
I guess your dumb ass doesnt realize we love that final score more than even you neanderthals. Keep typing it. Its the fuel for the entire Laker nation that has lead this team to where it is right now. By the way my thick headed friend, Happy 1 year anniversary of your last championship in 2008. And in advance happy 10th, 15th, 20th, and 25th anniversary of your last championship in 2008. And like the last time it happened for a quarter century, why don't you celtic "fans" disappear til then.

wow, magic have to watch out now. LO is a man on a mission. this is hiliarious, hopefully we will see LO in some endorsement deals for candy since he is willing to take less money. i know some people are saying not to resign and instead get artest. i'm sorry LO is a must b/c of his versatility and what he brings to the lockerroom. bringing artest will mess up the chemistry.
anyways good luck lakers. win on sunday so we can have the parade as soon as possible.

why do the lakers suck?
They will not, can not, and know not, how to play this once beautiful game as it was meant to be played,...AS A TEAM.
Phil Jackson has sold out to the marketing corporations by creating a circus show. A one man show, a club that has dismissed the idea of TEAM.
For the kids y'all.

Great incentive, indeed, for Lamar Odom. I wonder what kind of incentive it took to motivate the refs to call the most one-sided game I've ever seen in game 4. (Simmons and Rosen go out of their way to comment on this btw.)
Whatever, we won anyway and it made our victory all the more SWEET.

They don't. You're a bit of a dolt.

That trophy is hilarious. Way to go Wrigley!
I hope LO can find extra inspiration so that he can actually get his hands on it.
I hope that LO and TA both play their @$$3$ off like they need to max out their free agent contracts.

I got bored and went to the Magics' blog to read their takes on the series. What I found was alot of bickering and gnashing of teeth about SVG and the decision to play Jameer. I felt the need to say something.... I hope it was in good taste.
"Hi all,
I'm a huge Laker fan and have been for years. I have great respect for your Magic Team. You have been a GREAT foe during these games.
I will tell you this. I KNOW how it feels losing games in the finals. Last year we suffered against the Celts and it STUNK!
As one of your posters mentioned, I too think that experience in the finals matters. You have a great team and a bright future. All of us can see that. This finals has turned on just a few big moments.
For us, we have always had the experienced grizzled vet that comes through in those moments. Magic (Johnson), Fish, Horry, ect.
It's no mistake that those big moments happen. During the Horry years, we played him sparingly during the season so that he could do his thing deep in the playoffs.
In any event, this series has been exciting and eventful. It has been every inch of dramatic and incredible. My guys have come out looking good so far, but not by much.
I tip my hat to you for being such a great foe. No hard feelings here. In our threepeat we hammered , New Jersey, Indiana and Philadelphia. There was never any doubt about who was going to those series'. THIS ONE however, is a real championship series. BRAVO to you. I wish you the best and I admire your courage.

Good Morning Charles...Good Morning Everyone....
today I want to talk about a serious problem here on the blog and it affects us all....
Premature Blogulation...
PB is an insidious desease, striking over 10,000 bloggers daily...
symptoms include jumping the gun, jumping to the wrong conclusion, and knee jerking, as well as the all too dangerous counting baskets before they"re made...
other side effects include a bordom or complacency about current events and a wish to discuss future events that may not become a reality...
the cure for PB you ask?
STAY FOCUSED ON THE PRIORITY AT HAND
THE LAKERS WORK IS FAR FROM FINISHED--WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO TO FINISH THIS SERIES
everybody needs to focus and concentrate on getting this next victory...
I say now is not the time to discuss free agent signings in the summer or team construction for next year---that will indeed be a fun and engaging topic for AFTER we win the trophy...
Series MVP? if we don't win one of the next three games, the series MVP will be a guy from Turkey...
I don't give a rat's rosey red ass who the series MVP is as long as it is a dude wearing purple and gold...
we need all our collective energy and positive thoughts to help this team achieve their (and ours) final goal of an NBA Championship...
and that means ONE MORE WIN
and I want that win in game five---that's my vote (who's with me?)...
I don't care about winning it on our home court--I want to put this thng away tomorrow...
time to play hard, focus, execute, and play with purpose desire and intensity on EVERY possession...
it's time for some great coaching and outstanding, proficient free throwing (always have to throw that in, sorry)...
PICK AND FRICKIN' ROLL!!!
come on everybody, let's fight Premature Bogulation and bring the trophy home to where it perpetually belongs
AS ALWAYS, AS EVER, YET ANOTHER GREAT DAY (AND SEASON) TO BE A LAKER FAN !!!
GO LAKERS !!!
Posted by: Floyd | June 13, 2009 at 09:34 AM
Why does Roger Scot Suck? Because he is an idiot and has nothing meaningful to say. Dont be a sore loser and troll. Go back to being a tragic fan and get ready for a beat down in Game 5 by the TEAM that just put the dagger in your heart.
Posted by: fvbruin | June 13, 2009 at 09:35 AM
Hey 131,
How is the view from the bleachers? Is SVG blocking your view when he walks up and down the sidelines? Celtics out coached by SVG? Ouch.
Are the ESPYs is Boston this year? I am pretty sure Fish will be giving the 2009 acceptance speech for Best Team.
The upside is that Boston will not have to worry about sweeping up any confetti this year.

BK,
How about a poll on whether the Lakers or the City of LA should absorb the >$1 mm cost for a victory parade?

Lakers need to close the series out this Sunday simply because they have 2 days rest and should be in better position, energy wise, to win it all. The Rockets series was a good lesson, close out the opponent as soon as you could do it, no need to drag it out, you don't know, nything can happen. Also it will do their fans tons of good, no more anxiety.

With the possible exception of chocolate, I really don't get why people like candy. I mean, it's just sweet.
It's a very simple (and thus to me unsatisfying) childish flavor.
It's not good for you and you get one second of sharp shallow, pleasant flavor followed by a day of feeling like crap and a mouth that gets all gunky because the plaque is exploding in your mouth.
I totally do not get the point at all.

Enjoy your solitude. You'll get plenty of it.

roger scot,
the Lakers are a TEAM. every player counts and has a mission, from the last guy on the bench to the first. that is the ONLY reason that they are on the verge of the title.
Kobe is a TEAM player and always has been, even though he's often headstrong. he has done everything for the team and has lead the Lakers in assists EVERY championship run. he does everything that he can, so that the TEAM will win, scoring if the team is having problems scoring, orchestrating defense, and setting up his fellow players/runnning the offense. he does a lot because he CAN.
Phil is a TEAM coach. he requires his players to subjegate their personal agendas for the bigger TEAM goals.
the Lakers are one of the best, if not THE best passing teams in the league. more than one head coach has said so. one look at the overall assist numbers will verify this.
the Lakers under Phil Jackson are obsessed with playing the "right way". why do you think that they play a SYSTEM, one that is comprehensive and requires STUDY and DEDICATION instead of just throwing together a scheme of the most basic plays as most franchises do?
the Lakers have the MOST dominant offensive threat in the game. naturally, they'll exploit that. if you look at the big plays in the game however, you'll see role players making some of the biggest. that is TEAM.
when the Lakers lost last year, the TEAM lost. when and if they win this year, the TEAM will win.
i know you're just a troll, who is trying to have fun by "controlling" the emotions of the fanatics here on this blog, but that's ok. you've done a service. by making yourself into the hole between the buttocks, you've given me a chance to express my thanks to the TEAM for playing such good basketball. yes, good basketball!
the Lakers don't depend on being "intimidating" or "physical" or any of that WWE stuff that passes for ballin in the NBA. that's why they are known as a "finesse" team. they try to beat you through skill and execution of a game plan, TEAM activities that require playing the game as "it was meant to be played". that's why legendary hall of fame coaches like PJ and Tex Winter are involved in the organization.
sorry for you and your media brainwashed, jealous, hating self. as a Laker fan born in LA, i couldn't be more pleased by this team.

Spot on Floyd. Premature jocularity is always poor form.
This sucker is far from over. One more tough W to go. Stern gives trophies after 4 wins, not 3. If the Purple and Gold wants to represent, then our boys need to steal their souls starting 1st quarter tomorrow.
Squash their spirit early.
Empty the arena late.
Set the franchise back 10 years. Maybe forever.
Schilling is right. Nothing is better than shutting up nearly 20,000 loud-mouth fat-arse (Easterns) by winning on the road.
Who doesn't remember MJ cupping his hand to his ear, "I can't hear you."
Or how sweet it was to win in The Garden of Most's Morons in 1985, overwhelmed by the endgame din of a Lakers bench whooping and hollering and waving towels. Yes indeed Johnny, "...this place is going crazy." Cuz, "It's all over!" And he smiles. :-)
Lakers. Mamba. Finish. And bring that smile back home.

Oh my God Mud! I totallly agree with your post. I hate watching an NBA game where all the "thugs" come out. That is why i love watching Pau play because he is such a skillful and graceful player, not some guy who "bulldozes" to the rim. I love watching the Lakers when all their cylinders are running to the max. I hope next year, they will add to that dimension by playing excellent defense overall and that my fellow Laker fans, starts with a passionate and hard nose Bynum! Go Lakers!
