Sasha Vujacic and Russell Brand: Separated at birth?
Sasha Vujacic, whose shooting of late has been more dangerous than a blind man at a knife throwing competition, managed to find at least a semblance of a shooting groove late in LA's 89-70 win over the Rockets in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals, scoring nine points in the fourth on 4-6 shooting. Was it simply a matter of percentages finally turning in his favor? The fruits of extra hours at the gym? Finally relaxing and finding "the groove?"
Nope.
According to Kobe Bryant, it was the courtside presence of Sasha's "big brother," otherwise known as Aldous Snow, aka Russell Brand, of Forgetting Sarah Marshall fame:
Given all the attention paid to the unsettling resemblance of Vujacic and Houston forward Luis Scola, it's nice to get a little twist to the separated at birth theme... and to know that the long held tradition of Sasha's teammates poking fun at him is alive and well.
Check out this scene with Sas-- I mean Aldous, and decide for yourself. Change the accent, give Sasha a better developed sense of comic timing? Maybe Kobe is on to something:

STOP THAT!!

I thought Aldous Snow was about the worst host ever of the MTV awards.... annoying, yes. Funny, no.

boy Kobe's joke really flew over the head of everyone in that room. The reason people cant stand the sports journalists writing is because they are so out of touch with anything but their own writing. Get out of the house.

All I know is that there's a whole lotta scruffiness going on right there.
Maybe Gillette can hook Sasha, Scola, and Russell Brand up with a commercial (and a freakin' razor).
Just sayin'.

BK, Whatever they are, can I get some of those drugs?

Mila Kunis or Kristen Bell would be a much better set of pictures, IMO.

Psyched,
>>> Glad we only have one day to prepare - our "bi-polar, ADD, young gun, frenetic, which team will show" Laker squad might not be able to handle the extra rest and accidently drop G1 by "thinking too much".
Great post! Thanks for cheering me up.

I actually think Scola looks more like Russell Brand than Sasha does.
Posted by: Louis C. | May 18, 2009 at 12:04 PM
Gross. Totally doesn't look alike at all. Sasha is a hot looking man boy, that dude is just ew lol.

No way do we drop game 1. I'm not good with predictions coz I live on a one game at a time mentality but so long as we move the ball like we can...I say this series is definitely ours.
Looking forward to Carmelo strangling the Machine!

All my prayers and best wished to Brian Grant, battling Parkinson's disease. It's got to be so scary.
Story over at ESPN.

Spent all weekend out racing motorcycles so I missed all the hoopla leading up to the game (and the game itself). Glad we got rid of Whooston, but now on to 'enver.
I did get home in time to watch the Magic pound the 'ell out of the Boston. Talk about a great weekend.
First the Bruins lose a game 7, then the Celtics got smashed.
Wonder how long 131 will be gone.

They really look alike, don't know how I missed it. maybe because Russell Brand is even more irrelevant than Sasha?
Didn't read through the game thread yet, but were you guys screaming at the officials?
Well, I was. They continued to totally disregard Sasha's existence giving him touch fouls and nothing when he got fouled on the breakaway "dunk".
And ticky-tack fouls against the Lakers, while Kobe continues to get mugged under the basket with nary a whistle.
And that foul against Kobe when the ball squirted out of Scola's hand out of bounds on the rebound? Words can't describe what I was thinking on that one.
Please tell me I wasn't the only one upset with the officiating. I can understand trying to make the game competitive, but jeez. Don't be so f'in blatant.

Somebody told me that Kenyon Martin has a criminal justice degree from Cincinnati....
HOW?
Have you seen this guy's quotes? I can accept that type of broken talk if you are rapping or doing something artistic, but for his sake I really hope his level of communication is at a higher level outside the basketball world...
He's making Cincinnati look reaaaaallly bad with some of the broken English quotes he's released of late...

THE NUGGETS ARE FOOLS GOLD…
And all the knee-jerk media drones who anointed them this season’s Western Conference new best team will be looking to thumb a ride on our bandwagon once we’ve swept them. The Nuggets are this season’s version of the Hornets, a team disguising themselves as truly competent ballers but in reality are prone to embarrassing breakdowns from mental basket cases like Carmelo Antony, J. R. Smith, Kenyon Martin, and Chris “Birdman” Anderson. Their speeding train may have been rolling in New Orleans and Dallas but the ride is about to come to a bitter, disappointing, but familiar end as the Lakers expose them for frauds.
After two series highlighted by teams trying to play small ball with the Lakers, look for Andrew Bynum to finally start playing dominating basketball against the Nuggets with a matchup against another young center in Nene, whom Phil credits for being as big a reason why the Nuggets are a much improved team over last year as trading for Chauncey Billups. No longer having to worry about jitterbug penetrators or guarding height-challenged front court midgets, Drew should finally be able to start showing the consistency that we need from him on defense, offense, and the boards. He should dominate Nene all series long.
Also look for Pau Gasol to take Kenyon Martin completely out of his game, forcing him to spend much of his time frustrated and on the bench in foul trouble. The only concern we really should have with KMart is the worry that he might end up going ballistic and trying to punch Pau out or hurt him with a flagrant foul. I am hoping that Pau will continue to play with the same aggressiveness and fire that he did yesterday. We need the Pau who is tough and not soft in order to take care of business in Denver. If that Pau shows up along with Drew, the Lakers Beastball will be way too much for the Thuggets to handle.
The biggest challenge defensively for the Lakers will probably handling Mel as he has been playing better and more under control this year. Ariza will probably start out on Melo but look for Kobe to spend some time guarding him and hopefully goading him into casting up some questionable shots and forgetting about team basketball. Kobe and the Lakers perimeter players should be able to stay home on the Nuggets 3-point shooters since Drew, Pau, and Lamar should be able to cover any of the Denver big men 1-on-1. That will be a key to the Lakers ability to shut down the Nuggets offense.
I think this will be the series when everything comes together for the Lakers: Kobe will play ultra-efficient offensively and be a terror on defense. Pau will show the toughness that he displayed on Sunday on both ends of the court. Drew will anchor the Lakers on defense and provide the power low post game they need to dominate the paint and boards. Lamar will clip Birdman’s wings. Trevor, Fish, Jordie, Shannon, and Sasha will all have their best series of the playoffs and the Lakers will crush the Nuggets as they tune up for the NBA Finals and a chance to derail LeBron and upset ESPN’s and Stern’s will.
Lakers sweep. Kobe and the Beasts rule. Nothing left but wins on the schedule.
Tom

Play defense and rebound. The team that does this will control the outcome of the series. It's going to be a very physical series, so Kobe really needs to keep his composure (only 3 T's until he's suspended for one game). We can't afford to lose his playmaking, D, leadership, or scoring for even one game in this series. I'm excited and really looking forward to this. Would it be arrogant to say that I really believe the winner of the championship will come out of this?

BRUZER,
"Would it be arrogant to say that I really believe the winner of the championship will come out of this?"
Umm I think that statement is true for every playoff series we're involved in ... like what else is new dawg ...

This guy looks absolutely like Luis Scola....
Posted by: Korey | May 18, 2009 at 01:32 PM
Luis Scola reminds me of Razor Ramon.
Colorado loves the Lakers!

Actually, I think that Sasha is funnier than Russell Brand. Russell Brand really isn't that funny. I have know idea what happened to British humor. It seems like its evaporated in the last 15 years.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!!!!

Taliq,
Certainly not true for the Utah series. They matched up well against us, but don't have the right stuff to win the whole thing. Houston shoud have been better when they had T Mac , (Ron) and Yao, but proved to be tougher without their 2 big dogs. Still no match for the Nuggets, Majic, or Cavs, though. I think this is the series that will spell it out.
Posted by: BRUZER | May 18, 2009 at 01:45 PM
Will Sasha wear green now?

My niece calls Scola Sasha's big brother.
Posted by: Mark | May 18, 2009 at 03:37 PM
Will one of our genius coaches please tell Sasha that his shot is off because he is drifting (usually to his left) when he goes up. He needs to take his shot from a stationary position or brace against his body movement and elevate straight up and square to the basket. Instead, he hurries his shot while drifting into a lean away from any pursuing defender, as if afraid of a block. This bad habit is giving him the shooting "yips" somewhat like Steve Sax throwing to first base (a reference for old Dodger fans).

its very funny to hear how the nuggets killed the Mavericks when it should have been 3-2 Nuggets going back to Dallas if it wasn't for that great none call that the league apologized for, all games where close going into the 4th q...
Nuggets played well but by no means did they destroy Dallas as it is claimed by the Nuggets fan club
Posted by: shneurson | May 18, 2009 at 10:23 PM
Bah. This is what I get for not paying attention ...
I didn't know anyone thought Sasha looked anything like Scola. I'm sure it's mostly because they're both "Euros."
I do think Sasha and Russell Brand look alike. They're both very pretty (and they're actually both Euros). Scola undoubtedly has his virtues, but he's not so much with the looks.
Just sayin'.
