New 710 ESPN PodKast, a little more video, and other items of varying import

In this week's installment of our 710 ESPN.com Lakers PodKast, we spend plenty of time talking Lakers vs. Nuggets and the Western Conference Finals.  Unfortunately, no matter what happens the series will be over by Sunday night.  That leaves Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and most of next Thursday before we're back in the studio, and we don't want this thing going stale like a baguette left out on the counter overnight.

So Andy and I boldly look forward to (what appears, if we're correct about things which despite all odds does occasionally happen) a potential NBA Finals between the Lakers and Orlando Magic.  This is not a jinx- we acknowledge there is still work to be done for all parties, particularly where the Lakers are concerned- but rather a reasonable response to an unavoidable logistical issue.

All that, plus talk about how this Lakers team has been covered by the media and a debate about Tyrese and his performance of the national anthem before Game 5:  Was it worse for him to sub "Lakers" for "flag," or shill for his website when it was over?   We welcome ESPN's JA Adande for a long conversation about the Playoffs and why we can't get past the velvet rope at the JA Adande Lounge, and pass along our conversation with the great Elgin Baylor, which we had at 710's Lunch with a Legend event (that's around the 50 minute mark).

Anyway...

If there's a play folks are still buzzing about from yesterday's big Game 5 win, it's this one of Lamar Odom dunking over Chris Andersen:

Notice the fairly aggro headbutt from Luke Walton, which the former Wildcat acknowledges in this postgame vid touting LO's effort and the importance of that dunk:

We talked last night about Kobe's performance in Game 5, how he distributed, kept teammates involved, and stayed dedicated to an offensive game plan that was extremely effective, despite not being dependent on 24 for points.  We didn't, though, talk about the rather sick play he made with 1:50 left in the first quarter, where he drove the lane, lost the ball, gathered and finished... all while being fouled.  About 1:38 into the clip:

That can't be easy.

Odds and ends:

THE NEXT KOBE?

What we saw last night might well be a glimpse of the Lakers next evolution. While it is purely bored speculation while waiting for tomorrow night’s game, maybe the solution to the future of the Lakers point guard position is Kobe Bryant.

Now before you laugh, realize that once Drew recovers from his injury and starts playing like a beast, the Lakers current advantage in the front court is going to grow even greater. As will the need for the Lakers perimeter players to feed the ball to the post, which is far easier for a 6-7 player like Kobe than our team’s current mob of smaller point guards.

And point guard in the Triangle Offense is really more of a combo position. What it demands is a player who can handle the ball, make plays for his teammates, hit the open shot, and play lock down man defense on opposing teams’ point guards. Sound like anybody currently on our team? Remind you of anybody on Team USA?

Whether he actually plays the position or not, I think we are going to see a lot more of Kobe the Facilitator starting next year as the team refocuses its offense on Drew, Pau, and Lamar in the paint and Kobe focuses his game more and more on playmaking, defense, and closing out games in the fourth quarter. Kobe will score less but more efficiently.

Another factor is that great point guards are much harder to find than great shooting guards. It’s hard to imagine any team in the league parting with a Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, or Deron Williams but finding a Lakers version of Ray Allen to play shooting guard to Kobe’s point guard would definitely be an easier task.

That’s not to say that the team won’t turn to Kobe to bail them out when team ball is floundering from time to time. Or that Kobe will turn into a pass first rather than shoot first player. Rather he will adapt his focus on what the team needs, much as he is doing right now but with a clearer understanding that our matchup edge is in power basketball.

Kobe the Point Guard.
To hell with chasing MJ.
Better to chase Magic.
Be a triple-double threat.
Evolve like Wilt the Stilt.
Pedigree of a Champion.

Anyway, is it game time yet. LOL!

Tom

Watchin' Cleveland let Hedo Turk dribble wherever he wants to go.

Hopefully won't happen when we beat them to the ring.

Go Lakers

man, i am convinced lebron is obsessed with kobe. dude, copies everything kobe does. don't get me wrong lebron is freakin' amazing. amazing. after kobe scores he tries to score more than kobe. when kobe is looking for his teammates, he all of a sudden realizes there are four other players on his team. lebron has a mancrush on kobe. seriously.

I still don't get it - why did Luke Walton head-butt the back side of LO's armpit?

There have got to be better ways of letting someone know you're hyped about their effort....

Doing that meant that Luke was actually playing the rest of the game with LO's pit-smell on his forehead.

That can't be good...

LOL!

Reading the article in the Denver Post about an unidentified Nuggets player that said the Lakers paid $50,000 to get a win last night due to the officiating leads me to say two things. The Nuggets and their coach are whiners and cowards. They've had their share of calls in both LA and especially at home in Denver. They're just a bunch of crybabies and whiners. Whichever Nugget player made the stupid comment about the Lakers paying off the refs to win is a flat out coward for talking crap and then hiding for fear of retaliation from the league. I truly believe that this cowardly individual speaks for most if not all the Nuggets and their organization because someone from that team should've put him check. These Nuggets are a reflection of their coach, who always seems to whine and cry whenever things go bad. Karl is a loser when it comes to big games, period. He's had good teams in Seattle, Milwaukee and now Denver, but along with Sloan and Adelman, he's never been able to get past Phil Jackson. Yes, the series isn't over yet, but I have complete faith in our Lakers to win it.

I like this article

People should stop celebrating. We haven't won two in a row this series.

I thought the Lakers were tops in the NBA at blowing big leads, but the Cavs definitely have that honor this season. To have an enormous lead at home in the first quarter only to blow the entire thing has to be sending their fans into a nervous breakdown. They'll probably win this one, but it sure ain't gonna be easy!

Umm... we should use this Cavs-Magic game as a lesson on the importance of closing out.

Tomorrow night we close out the Thuggets.

WE ARE THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AND WE RISE!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

LakerTom,

"Kobe the Point Guard.
To hell with chasing MJ.
Better to chase Magic.
Be a triple-double threat.
Evolve like Wilt the Stilt.
Pedigree of a Champion."

I love the energy, but let's let Kobe be Kobe.

It's not about stats. It's about Championships. Nothing else.

WE ARE THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AND WE RISE!!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Well - looks like the Crabs live to fight another day.

On the one hand, I'm kind of glad because it pushes the series out a little longer. We may get the benefit of extra rest as a result - you never know.

On the other hand, I really, really, really, really, really, really HATE the Crabs and want them to lose. I want the king of the crab people to be fishing and watching the Mamba play for the ring. I want the idiot announcers, fans and pundits to try explaining why their man-crush on the king of the crabs is somehow justified and that he really should have won. That should be good for comic relief.

Meanwhile, the puppet commercials also remain relevant. At least there's a bright side !

never...no worries, then we'll take game 6 =) how about that?

The orlando magic and the lakers have to either be the 2 dumbest defensive teams or have 2 of the dumbest coaching staffs in the league. They give up too many open 3 point shots. Open 3s by boobie gibson of all people killed the magic. YOU CANNOT LEAVE SHOOTERS OPEN AT THE 3 POINT LINE. Quit doubling on the ball during drives because the cavs and the nuggets are only looking for 3 point shots. Which is worth more? Yes, 3 point shots hurt more and thats why orlando lost. You know they will not call any obvious fouls on lebron. I hope the lakers clean up thier act and stay with thier man on the 3 point line or we will see a denver victory. The pressure just returned to the magic to win at home because there is no way the refs will let cleveland lose game 7 at home. You see the phantom foul calls on howard and lebron still run into people and get a foul called for himm, Terrible... I hope the lakers are ready....

Followed the link to the Denver Post. Got through reading all the way down to where Denver fans complain about Nene's fouls in Game 5. Isn't that like complaining about Luke Walton's fouls in Game 4? Yeah it sucked, bad calls all around, but really? Really. Really? That is what you are putting your hopes on? Nene is gonna get you a championship?

And do they really think Kobe doesn't get fouled driving to the hoop? Per J.A. Adande:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime-090522
(4th paragraph from the bottom)
Or more to the point:
http://www.latimes.com/media/alternatethumbnails/story/2009-05/47060703-21193404.jpg
Yes, Kobe never gets fouled, and he is just faking it all. In fact, he is clearly committing that rare double charge into Martin's and Melo's arms. And for my last Kobe comment, shouldn't Billups been called for a loose ball foul for launching into Kobe and doubling him over just prior to Kobe driving in and getting hacked in the head by Melo, (which I doubt the NBA would upgrade)?

And if the refs were really had it against Denver in Game 5, they wouldn't have given Nene 15 minutes (obviously not literal) to shut it before giving him a T. What were the rest of the Nuggets doing anyway? Shouldn't the coach or Billups or Melo stepped in and gotten Nene away? Was it their idea of protesting "bad calls"? Was letting Nene stew and bitch until he gets a T in a tight game a good protest? Very effective method I see.

Also, if winning a game is easy as paying $50K, why is the mystery Denver player not paying? For that matter, couldn't the Denver fans sell their Jay Culter jerseys and pay for one themselves?

You look at the decisive point of Game 5, the key thing was that the refs let the players play, that the Lakers were allowed to put pressure on without getting ticky-tack fouls they were called for in Game 4, and that to me is what PJ's comment about officiating changing the flow of the game. You could see Billups doing his old trick of trying to initiate contact with Brown to bail himself out, but instead of allowing the fake foul, the refs just let it go, which lead to Billups turning the ball over. And in case you Denver fans are wondering, this is just like the no call I spoke earlier of Billups on Kobe, or Nene's foul on Kobe's alllyoop, or Kobe's failed attempt to draw a contact call on that last 3-pt attempt - just letting them play. Had the refs called Game 4 the same way, instead of all the talking heads talking about how Lakers suddenly found their D in Game 5, they would be saying Lakers closed out Denver with their pressure D. I can only hope the refs keep it consistent tomorrow.

And lastly, all the Denver fans seem to think that Denver has outplayed the Lakers the entire series. Well, Lakers had the lead at some point on each of the 5 games, and most importantly, they had the lead at the end of 3 of those games. Get over it. Denver hasn't been playing lights out, like you imagine in your heads. It wasn’t the refs shooting below 40% out there when the game mattered last night.

Tom,

I like the way you're thinking. I think Kobe can start playing that role now. If he plays along side another combo guard like Brown, or even Farmar, Kobe as orchestrator will prolong his career and still give him free reign to be the Mamba when he needs too.

Lebron to some extent plays that role now and doesn't have the assortment of flavors to choose from that Kobe does. If he started a season with the mindset he was going to average 10 assists a game, I think we'd be a more dominant team and a more consistently great team.

I know Blitz and others will say that the triangle isn't designed for one player to average double digit assists, but it's my opinion that we play a hybrid triangle anyway and often our offensive possessions break down into a two man game or Kobe going one on one and making a decision as the clock winds down. I think we can still play the triangle, but use Mamba as a lethal facilitator/scorer, not the other way around.

That's the future, might be a good idea to incorporate more of that mindset into the present as well. The proof seems to be in the W's.

"On the other hand, I really, really, really, really, really, really HATE the Crabs and want them to lose. I want the king of the crab people to be fishing and watching the Mamba play for the ring. I want the idiot announcers, fans and pundits to try explaining why their man-crush on the king of the crabs is somehow justified and that he really should have won. That should be good for comic relief."

I'm with you, Justa. I hope the games go 7 and that Orlando pulls it out in the last game. That way the series goes long, and Crabron also loses.

Hey, wonder what happened to the guy who kept coming on here and saying "all hail king james?" Just a thought...

GO LAKERS!

Very well said, VA Laker Fan.

Very well said.

GO LAKERS!

The Kingmaker article was yet another example of a bored wanna be journalist who is obsessed with protecting Jordan's legacy....Kobe is chasing history not some young hype child who has been given legendary status w/o even winning a game in the NBA Finals.....TO BE HONEST the greatest fear these talking heads have is Kobe winning another ring.......b/c when he does this year it will do 2 things..... 1. Make Shaq's childish banter irrelevant 2. Put him within 1 title of Magic and 2 of Michael with 5 more REALLY PRODUCTIVE years left and a emerging Andrew Bynum starting next season.......All the comparisons past and present have been designed to diminish the consistency by which Kobe has played with over 13 seasons and the work that he put in to grow his game from a useless 17yr talent to a Champion........By Mamba's 15th season Andrew Bynum will be a budding All Star and Kobe could very well be on his way to a 6 title........In Laker land most people are sober enough to realize that Kobe has played with a level of excellence and consistency that is rivaled by few players in NBA history.........In doing so many next big thing players have come and gone .....Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Gilbert Arenas, and probably about 30 others I didn't name.......All were given the "Better than Kobe" or "Just as good as Kobe" title ....All the while through success and travail Kobe has been at the top of his game for 10 straight seasons.......This year Lebron is no different.....sure is stats will out shine Kobe's in areas but until he wins several titles .....he is chasing Kobe........and Kobe's chasing history........He of all people knows if you don't have at least 5 RINGS with Gaudy #'s you don't qualify for the GOAT Conversation.......No wonder Kobe blows off the Lebron chatter........If greatness is based upon talent then Legacy is determined by RINGS.......That's why Wilt the Stilt isn't considered the GOAT........When Kobe wins his next 2-3 rings the Lebron cult members will have no choice but to measure Lebron by more than just numbers........Over the last decade many media types have written Kobe off and made way for their next big thing only to have to back up to compare their young gun to Kobe.....No wonder they hate him so much.....they want him to go away..... WELL ........3 more titles with Finals MVP's, All time playoff scoring leader, Top 3 all time in scoring, More 60pt games and 50pt games than Michael and he'll give them their wish........Scoring avg, MVP's, Scoring Titles won't put Kobe where he wants to be but Titles, and unprecedented longevity and excellence at the two guard will.....Laker nation we are going through growing pains to become champions but we are on the verge of another Dynasty in LA LA LAND!!

Lakers 2009 NBA CHAMPS

PL

LakerTom,

Kobe at Point, Ariza at SG, Drew, Pau and Luke (AM, Sasha, whoever) with LO as sixth Man? I like.

Plus 50K pot chip in by the team for 16 playoff game per year? That's about 3.5K per player per game, loose change even for Luke. 12 year dynasty.

If Denver has at least 100,000 fans, maybe they should pass the hat for 50 cents each and buy their our ref?

Denver fans, you have 24 hours. Hop to it.

orlando made to many mistakes and started to late in the game but they should win the next game if not then cavs will win game 7 and the news media will say Lebron James has now surpased Michael Jordan.

As for lakers i say they loose by 20 points. but some how maybe they pull out a win in game 7.

If laker fans have not found out that denver is the better team and we have been very lucky to be up by 1 game and a chance to close it out then i dont know where you guys have been.

All this is happening because andrew bynum got hurt vs the memphis grizzles. and we will never know how the lakers could have been. Bynum will never be the same and he is injury prone he never leaves the ground that is why he gets hurt. His foot is nailed to the ground!!!!!!!!!!

go lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good luck to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! winwinwiwniwnwinwinwinwinwinwinwiniwniwiwiwninwin
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Kobe did not play only PG last night, he was also the player-coach directing Bynum and Shannon where to position or to cut in order to get the rock. That's given, Kobe is SG, SF, PG, Coach. He can take the 5 too, if we're talking of Nene and Birdman as their Centers.

What is best for Kobe is a revolving Kobe, let all teams keep on guessing what will be the role of Kobe on a given night. It is the supporting cast, the role players that makes the team elevate to the next level. Lakers are always good at home but suffer setbacks on the road, that mojo should change. Wear ear plugs in order to silence those crowds. When there is a task on hand like tomorrow, don't defer it for another day. When your shots are not going on, don't keep on forcing shots after shot to the detriment of the team. Last night, it was Lamar & Shannon that lifted the team, of course Kobe & Pau are always given. Tomorrow, it is the turn of Fisher, Sasha, Ariza and Bynum, somebody should continue that surge. Imagine the game tomorrow as Game 7.

I also really really really hate lbj and the cavs. I am so sick of them and want them booted out by Orlando. I'd much rather the Lakers play the magic even if they are tougher to match up against. If we beat Devner, and then beat the Magic - then this Laker team truly is the best. That will really show what kind of character and fight this team has.

Man - the magic better win the next game or it's going to be a lbj "miracle" and then we'll have to listen to stupid espn and tnt and the other losers rehash and replay every lbj shot made. Oh brother, i'd rather watch the game 6 finals from last year than be blasted with constant coverage of the cavs and how the sportscasters get on their kneedpads for lbj. It's just sickening.

Like another blogger said, if magic lose the next game - there is NO way the refs will let cavs lose in game 7. Game 6 is the deciding game whether the NBA will admit it or not.

Thanks for the link to the nba site and how to email them complaints about the officiating. I blasted them and Stern.

Oh well - Lakers got to take care of business tomorrow. Close them out!!!!

Go Lakers!!!!!!!

It's unbelievable that Denver is complaining about the officiating in this series. How many dirty plays has Dahntay Jones gotten away with? How many phantom fouls has Billups drawn by jumping into our defenders? How much pushing and shoving has Denver's frontcourt done w/o getting a foul?

We will thankfully put them out of their misery tomorrow night.

Well, the reason why fans nowadays always think of conspiracies because of the Donaghy scandal which happened during the reign of a savvy lawyer-businessman, Commisioner David Stearn. Donaghy went to jail but Stearns was never replaced. Who put him there? The owners and networks paying multi-million contracts. In this playoffs, Refs are calling ticky tacks as flagrant fouls and have been inconsistent throughout the whole series. No refs are reprimanded after making mistakes. Therefore fans are confused by the law. They are asking: What is the law? Also those $ 25,000 fine on PJ where does it go? Does it go to the annual income of Stearns and Stu Jackson? This summer, CBA should tackle the role of referees in their bargaining. There should be clear cut rule not only imposed by the league but in agreement or thoroughly discussed by players, coaches, team management. In retrospect, they need an understanding of the rules in basketball or referred to as by-laws in a corporation or a Constitution in a democratic government. Finally, there should be a bigger pool of referees that may include impartial 3rd party from other countries. If referees are selected randomly in that manner, then it is hard to speculate that ball games are being fixed. If all concerned will stick with the law, thus they will avoid controversies, fines, complaints from visiting team. doubts, conspiracies, greedy profiteering and tainted results.

"All this is happening because andrew bynum got hurt vs the memphis grizzles. and we will never know how the lakers could have been. Bynum will never be the same and he is injury prone he never leaves the ground that is why he gets hurt. His foot is nailed to the ground!!!!!!!!!!"

No way Bynum should be considered "injury prone". While the 1st injury could have been maybe a sign of a weak knee (he just stepped on LO's foot) the 2nd was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"and we will never know how the lakers could have been."

Woulda coulda isn't. We could say the same thing in 1989 about Magic's injury but its not even worth it to think if we could have won that series (and even if Magic wasn't injured, they faced the same Pistons who made the Lakers go to 7 games).

"Bynum will never be the same and he is injury prone he never leaves the ground that is why he gets hurt. His foot is nailed to the ground!!!!!!!!!!"

Really?? How could you know???. Bynum hit a few jumpers in Game 5 so he sure has lift in his legs.

"Kobe the Point Guard.
To hell with chasing MJ.
Better to chase Magic.
Be a triple-double threat.
Evolve like Wilt the Stilt.
Pedigree of a Champion."

Agreed with Jon K. Let Kobe be Kobe. It shouldn't be Kobe giving out 8 assists. He could average 8 assists and shot only 19 shots yet the Lakers can still lose (Game 4 2008 NBA Finals).

Simply have to adjust as to how the defense will play you. Will they seek to force Kobe to score or give up the ball?

Kobe most times (not all the time) knows what to do.

"If laker fans have not found out that denver is the better team"

Those Thuggets are only good because they have Chauncey who choked 3 times in Detroit after going to the NBA Finals twice. Billups will turn 33 soon enough and his athleticism will start to go down. Kobe still has 2-3 great years and the Lakers have both a prime core and a developing core (though Sasha and possibly Jordan are exceptions).

So far Kobe has done a solid job on Mr. Big Shot and Trevor is starting to somewhat make Carmelo struggle (though those trips to the foul line is still not a good thing) with his shot.

Chauncey Billups is still the key to the offense of the Nuggets. Despite Melo's 31 point outburst Chauncey only scored 12 points 1 trip to the line and all save for one were 3 pointers which helped not getting him to the line. Kobe and Shannon hopefully can make him stay on 3 point land and not going to the line so much.

lakers, as a loyal fan i am begging you guys to give it everything you have today. play it like it is your elimination game. please get this over with. play with all your heart and think smart. don't think you will automatically win game 7 at home. lakers, today is your game 7. get motivated. i don't care what it is- whether you want to celebrate on denver's homecourt or whether you just want some extra rest. just do it.

sincerely,
all laker fans

BK,

Thanks for the Jedi Mind Trick stuff -- I sat here laughing for five minutes. Really good stuff and a good way to bring my blood pressure down after reading more ridiculous articles about how the Nuggets were robbed by the ref.

You guys really are great.

Its time again for another episode of The Mr. Bill Show!

“Mr. Bill, why are you shaking? You look terrified”

“Oh nooooo, its Slugo Melo of the Nuggets. He’s always mean to me!”

“Last game, I went in for a lay up and hit me in the face. That’s not too nice of him, is it?”

“No that’s not very nice, Mr. Bill. I’m sure Slugo Melo didn’t mean to hurt you”

“Then, his friend, Mr. Jones, pushed and tripped me. He plays dirty. He’s trying to injure me really bad!”

“Now Mr. Bill, Mr. Jones said it was an accident and he said he was sorry. Even his coach said it was just playoff basketball. Don’t you think you are overeacting, Mr. Bill?”

“Oh nooo! It was no accident. He was laughing with Mr Slugo Melo, and said he was only sorry I didn’t get hurt worse and taken to the Morgue.”

“Mr. Bill, your imagination has got the best of you. This is the NBA, and Mr. Stu Jackson says he’s there to protect the players and would NEVER let anyone hurt you.”

“Oh no! Not Mr. Stu Jackson. He’s a bad man and told me I’m one step away from owning a pair of cement boots!”

“Mr. Bill, if you don’t straighten up, Mr Stern is going to suspend and fine you for saying terrible things about the NBA.”

“Oh noooooo! Not that! I promise to be a good boy. Please don’t hurt me Mr. Stern!”

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of the Mr. Bill Show….

Good morning,

Game Day! Enough talk. Enough predictions. Enough rants. Enough analysis. It's all about what the players leave on the floor tonight. Go Lakers! Enough said.

LakerTom,

Great ideas. Before the season, I had hoped that Phil would experiment with the "Three Towers" lineup -- Drew/Pau/Lamar/Trevor/Kobe, with Kobe (or Lamar) bringing the ball up. I understand some of the reasons not to do this, but I think you are right that Kobe as distributor, at least some of the time, would really help with low post passing and wreaking havoc with opposing defenses.

VA Laker Fan -- Great post. Where in VA are you located? I'm in northern VA.

Good morning, Laker Faithful.

Big opportunity tonight. I don't care if it's by 15 or by 1, but I'm hoping the boys can close it out tonight.

Focus. Energy. The best road team in the NBA has another chance to prove it tonight. Let's see it.

Go Lake Show!

I am AMAZED.

Amazed that today we find ourselves within 1 victory of having home court in the finals.

This is a great natural buzz that's propelling me through these days. I'd give anything--ANYTHING--to see the double deckers and sunglasses riding toward staples.

Those victory parades in Los Angeles are a sight to behold. If my memory serves correct, there were a quarter million people at the last of the threepeet parades.

I'd love another.

A million fan march, anyone?

Wes

"man, i am convinced lebron is obsessed with kobe. dude, copies everything kobe does. don't get me wrong lebron is freakin' amazing. amazing. after kobe scores he tries to score more than kobe. when kobe is looking for his teammates, he all of a sudden realizes there are four other players on his team. lebron has a mancrush on kobe. seriously."

What are you talking about???? Kobe managed to get 8 assists in one game and everyone makes a big deal. Lebron has been AVERAGING 8 assists for the whole postseason, and averaged 7.3 for the regular season. Lebron's averaged more assists than Kobe every single season AND postseason of his career. You really have some issues is you think that Lebron is "copying" Kobe's supposed passing skills.

UNLEASH THE BEAST – BANDWAGON
(01) LAKER TOM – OWNER - Drew is slowly starting to show that the
Beast may be back sooner than expected. If so, watch out NBA.
(2) DRIVER - Good sign from Bynum - players who are going to be
great will occasionally have monster games in their early years, while they
are still figuring things out. .I really hope people give him a break.
He's going to be worth $15 mil whatever happens.
(02) MAMBA24 – Driver – In the Beast of the West Game “There Can Be
But One”. Move aside Howard. Bynum the real Beast has now arrived.
(03) KEIFO - Riding ShotGun - I told you so Haters!
(04) ISANG – Bynum, Bynum, BYNUM!
(05) Leonard Bast - what is the meaning to the ultimate question,
the meaning of life, the universe, and everything? "42," answers the
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. and what exactly is the Ultimate
Question? Simple. what is Andrew Bynum's new career high? )
(06) JAMES KATT – Great job Andrew!
(07) BU8TCHIKEY – GO BYNUM!
(08) CARLOS DEEP - SURPRISE, SURPRISE..There IS a bEAST in the WEST!!!
(09) JUSTANOTHERMAMBAFAN - Socks - aka The Beast - reared his head
last night.
(10) TOM DANIELS - So now we have the answer to the burning question,
what would Bynum look like if he was playing in the D league?
(11) EDWIN GUECO - 42 was great for the Clippers, can the chihuahua-beast
now aim break the Cap's record of consecutive games double digit scores?
That's a tall order but it is the road to greatness.
(12) DAVE M. - that was playing with authority!
(14) LAKER FAN24 – The Beast is BACK!!!!!
(15) TIM-4-SHOW – Socks is a legit weapon
(16) JON K. - The Beast is back! This is just the beginning.
(17) MRBARNEYDANGLES - If Bynum can continue to play at a high
level both offensively and defensively then we are practically unbeatable.
(18) FLOYD - Bynum detractors will be saying it is only one game, call fluke, and
doubt his ability to continue to play consistently like he did last night....Bynum / Beast
advocates will herald the second coming of the unstoppable Beast....oh the humanity...
19) SIXONEZERO - good job, Socks...but it isn't ridiculous to expect 15 boards and 3
blocks from you every game. i'd rather see that than the 42 pts, atleast for
the next year or two.
(20) XODUS - It's fun seeing Drew get back to being the monster he looked like he was
turning into prior to his injury. He seems to have found that gear--whether it be mental or
physical--that he found last year when he really came on. And seeing attack and play the
way he can is a treat. It's easy to forget that he can be one of the most exciting players to
watch in the league when he attacks
(21) JAMIE SWEET - Keep it coming Andrew, keep it coming.
(21) LAKERS_STH - But the bottom line right now is that he's feeling really good about
his game and having an impact on both ends.
(22) JOHNNYBOY - On Bynum- smashin on the clippers and wizards is good but not great
. He's got to do more against good teams but I guess it's a step in the right direction. Hopefully his confidence will grow from this.
(23) LueyVatonDon - Glad to see Bynum attaining his confidence
(24) JON K. - Bynum continues to "turn the corner" as a player.
(25) LAKER-GURU-FROM-INDIA - it is a crime if anyone is a laker fan and not on
this bandwagon by now!! No more BYNUMB.. it is BYE BYE for the rest of the league!!
(26) KIWI – If he releases his inner Beast I’m with that.
(27) LAKER NORTH – THE BIG BASOON PLAYER - Maybe Kareem should start
giving the perimeter guys a clinic on how to feed the post. If Drew wants the ball now
he has to come out to the free throw line so some one can feed him. You can't feed the
post from the top of the key!!!
(28) DAN THE MAN - START ANDREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does everyone claiming that the refs are fixing things for cleveland realize that Orlando shot 41 free throws last night? They got 7 more free throws than Cleveland even though they purposely sent them to the line 6 times in the last minute in their attempted comeback. Did they notice that BOTH of Cleveland's starting frontcourt players fouled out last night?

Orlando has shot 11 more free throws that Cleveland FOR THE SERIES even though they're primarily a 3-point shooting team. Cleveland has had their post players foul out 5 times already. Lebron has had at least three big calls go against him in the closing seconds of tight games (traveling, jump ball, and a no-call on contact on the shot) against one big call going for him (the foul with 0.5 seconds). Orlando has won two tight games in which they have shot at least 5 more free throws than Cleveland.

If the refs are trying to fix that series, they're doing the worse job ever.

btw - has anyone ever noticed that the ONLY people who hate Lebron and the Cavs are Lakers fans? And how people just about everywhere can't stand Kobe? There's a reason all those announcers and media people sound biased to you - because they LIKE LEBRON BETTER. They like Lebron's game better, and they like Lebron as a person better. I'd be willing to put money on the fact that Andrew and Brian personally like Lebron better than Kobe, and would rather have him directing this Lakers team. This isn't any big secret - you guys have been saying it for years. Everyone likes Lebron more. I'm a los angeles guy, don't have the slightest connection to Ohio, and I like Lebron a ton more than Kobe. Get used to reality.

Interesting stats from Eric Pincus:

http://tinyurl.com/mlbrq9

>>Watchin' Cleveland let Hedo Turk dribble wherever he wants to go.

U know LAKERS already buried the Sacremento Queens and Turkolu before. He looks better now but if he has Kobe, Lamar, or Ariza gaurding him he may not be able to go where he wants. Once LeBron was gaurding him last night Hedo was shut down. Another problem for Hedo will be that he will have to gaurd somebody on the Lakers team. Unlike Cavs almost any player can score for Lakers. If he gaurds Ariza then he will be running around all over and may not have the same energy at the other end.

Hopefully, the new approach to the offense will keep it close tonight and if the 3s don't fall, the fouls pile up and the bigs don't dominate, it should conserve enough energy for Kobe ball to close out.

A sixth game win would shout out back East that the Lakers are ready to take the final step.

Through the pain, through the fatigue... RISE

Good Morning, Laker Nation!

It's time for...

Jon K.'s Early Thoughts That He Has Not Put Too Much Thought Into Yet:

1. Game day! A warrior's day! Let's close out this series!

2. I think we should take a lesson from last night's Cavs-Magic game: It is important to close out a team when you have the opportunity.

3. Denver is going to come at us with everything they've got. I expect they are going to play hard, aggressive and dirty tonight.

4. It is laughable to me that Denver has finally decided to complain about the refs, yet they are unable to name a SINGLE crazy call that went the Lakers' way and not Denver's way. They can't. It's been the theme of the series that Denver gets ridiculous calls in their favor. Just like the Thuggets they are they complain when the favoritism they've experienced is taken away. Lame.

5. A lesson from the Cavs-Magic game... even fanatical fans can be taken out of a game when it's an elimanation game. For half of the Cavs-Magic game, it was like a morgue at The Q. That same silence will pervade The Pepsi Center if we build a lead early and maintain it. The Thuggets need their crowd. Like a bunch of circus clowns, they play to the crowd. Take the crowd out early and it makes our job a lot easier.

6. I hope The Beast shows up. We need him.

7. Ball movement + Extra pass + Feed the post + Aggressive team defense = Victory

8. If we don't win today, we are going to hear a collective groan from the media (including The Three Stooges) which cries, "THE LAKERS ARE SOFT! THE LAKERS LACK KILLER INSTINCT!" Please, guys, for us and yourselves, deny these cretans the pleasure and Laker Nation the misery of having to argue with trolls and haters. Just win this game.

9. There's a rumor a'flyin' about that the lucky barstool may not be available for sometime after Sunday. It seems a disgruntled former employee of my esteemed local watering hole has called several state agencies to report multiple electrical code, building code, fire code, and alcohol permit violations and authorities will be collectively showing up on Monday to address these allegations (which I can assume with high confidence are valid). So, it's possible the place may be shut down for an extended period of time starting Monday. Thus, no more lucky barstool. So, let's utilize its powers while the gettin's good.

10. So this game is won by getting the ball inside to Pau and The Beast, and Trevor, Kobe, and Lamar all attacking the basket/driving inside for high percentage shots. We play that way and we get back fast on defense AND play effective team defense, we win. Denver has suckered us into playing this stupid perimeter game. I'm all fine with dishing it out to the three point line to take a couple wide-open shots every now and again, but only if we're already positioned to get the offensive rebound. What I am not okay with is Trevor, Sasha and Derek quickly passing the ball across the perimeter and jacking up threes repeatedly when we have no one in position to get the offensive rebound. That's the game Denver had suckered us into and that style of play ends now. Feed the post + Ball movement + Team defense = Victory.

11. Let's get this game started.

WE ARE THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AND WE RISE!!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

Its not so bad to see Lebron in the finals. If they say he is as good as he is then it will that much more satisfying to take the title from him.

It won't shut up the critics because I can already hear them saying Lebron does not have same supporting cast as Kobe and that PJ is so much better coach. Kenny Smith was saying that I think. Blah Blah Blah...

PJ: "You don't need to call that foul on Andrew Bynum. These aren't the fouls you're looking for." Ron Garretson: We don't need to call that foul on Andrew Bynum. These aren't the fouls we're looking for." PJ: "I think Nene just flopped over there." RG: "I think Nene just flopped over there!

-------------------

so does that make Staples Center Mos Eisley???

and yeah that was real Star Wars-nerdy of me but you started it first.

hope they do win tonight. my concern is orlando's center. does the lakers have an answer for him? game one will tell. GO LAKERS!!!

{Lakers Secret Agent Jon K. Reporting From DEEP Behind Enemy Lines In The Sullen Gray Wastes Of Northeast Ohio, aka The Joyless Land Of Joyless Joylessness}

1. Like junkies coming down from a street high, the LeBroniacs are collectively realizing that it's over. Though they maintain a strand of desperate irrational hope, for the most part they are accepting that the Cavs cannot win this series.

2. Everyone is to blame, except LeBron... sort of.

3. The frantic murmurs of LeBron leaving to go play in New York have already begun. This will be a huge distraction next year.

4. I had a LeBroniac (not even drunk yet, too boot) approach me last night and start gushing about what an incredible player Kobe Bryant is and how if the Cavs had Kobe Bryant instead of LeBron James that the Cavs would be in the Finals. He said all this while he was wearing a LeBron James jersey and muttering phrases like "He/they just doesn't/don't know how to win when he's/they're tested! Kobe knows how to win! He's deadly."

I'm sitting here listening to this guy patiently and politely, thinking to myself, "Aren't you the guy who got in my face while I was enjoying the Lakers playing Phoenix several months ago and started screaming in my face, 'KOBE'S A [Female dog!]'? And whose friends later drunkenly tried to provoke a fight with me simply for answering the question, 'Who's the greatest player in the world?' with the name 'Kobe Bryant?' I think you are."

Anyhow, it was another bizarre night of anthropological research. I would feel bad for the Clevelanders, if they weren't so crass, crude, arrogant, and aggressive. In the end, Cavs Nation doesn't deserve and Championship. Nor will they get one.

GO LAKERS!!!

Good morning Laker family,

It's gameday again and as always, the butterflies are working overtime. It's funny how true fans deal with their teams failures and successes.

When we win, like in game 5, we spend the next day reading every online article there is about our team even when it's clear they've all copied each other. We spend our day blogging and arguing with the opposing team's fans about why they feel they lost, etc. We also watch ESPN re-run the same highlight reel over and over as if they really were going to add something new to the last hour's highlights. We watch Around the Horn and PTI just to hear what they have to say. Some of us record every NBA show there is just to watch the part about the Lakers. We even wait as long a sit take for the blogg gods (AK/BK) to give us something to blog about on this great blog...and we wait sometimes hours just to see our post show up and watch our blog buddies post the traditional posts (aka Mamba's Roll Call, utzworld's Prayer, Faith's faithful declarations, Jon K.'s insights, and even BUTLER's ridiculous rants even when his Suns set a long while back).

However, when we lose, we wake up and avoid turning the TV on at all costs. We actually do work at work because none of us want to rea any online articles about how we lost and why we're doomed. We're in a bad mood all day and just wait for the nervouseness of the next gameday to start all over again. We're just mad at the world. We verbally trade every Laker who didn't show up during the loss and hire new coaches between games. Dare I say...we even look forward to watching another team (Cleveland) just to make us feel better about our loss.

WE ARE TRULY FANS OF THE LAKERS!

Now...the butterflies are in my stomach...the bible has been dusted off and actually read...the prayers are going up to the basketball gods...work at work will not be done today...the Lakers blog will be pumping with predictions...and the Laker fans will be ready to bite the rest of our nails and cuticles off tonight. We try to blog and watch the game at the same time and quickly drop the blog whe we miss the best plays and dunks while reading AK, BK, and Benicios posts about the plays of the game....soon you realize...I'm waitching the game too, why am I missing the live play just to read "great bal movement...LO drives to the basket"...uh, I know that.

Anyway family...it's time to do it all again...hopefully, tomorrow we'll all be up early watching ESPN and looking for articles online...simultaneously, I might ad.

GO LAKERS! It's time to head to where the big boys play...THE FINALS BABY!

5 more wins to the promise land.

Good morning Laker fam:

It's game day and I have a very big decision to make today in preparation:

Which Laker shirt to wear?

I have:
a) purple,
b) black,
c) D-Fish #2 gold....
d) wear them all & go for broke

There's no shirt better than the other at this point - they have all lost at least one game which bums me out. I only wish I had a barstool with a winning record.

You guys let me know......

There is also the pink lakers basball cap for the times we need to rally. I keep that one on the sidelines.

Let's go Lakers - close out this series already and be done with these Thugs!!!

Jonathan .. I like Lebron better than Kobe as a person and he may be a better team player also. But that does nothing on the court when you need a basket. Bottom line is:

Kobe has 3 Rings Lebron 0

Your arguement may be that Kobe had Shaq. Okay then Kobe lost to Celtics 4-2. Lebron got Swept (4-0). And Kobe has been to the finals 4 times .. Lebron 1. One game away from 5.

Right now Lebron is not looking good. Blame supporting cast or whatever but he is on the brink of elimination. Kobe's team is bipolar as well. People say how great Pau is but I don't remember him in Playoffs ever? Lamar.. did he do anything in playoffs? Sasha, Ariza, Brown, and Farmar are like kids. Bynum.. has he done anything in life? You think anyone would know what his name was if he was playing for SAC town.. you prolly say he is the guy thats always injured. Fisher is the only one who has been with Kobe all this time. But you are never going to put him in the same conversation as Scottie Pippen.

Night in Night out Kobe plays defense and is always a threat to score.. Thats why Lakers win.

Our opinions are based from media spreading rumors also. Like Kobe's character. Do we really know who real Kobe is? Did Shaq fight him or he fought Shaq.. or did PJ make Kobe Shaq fight to get best out of them? I can buy the last one .. maybe Phillup was creating friction between the two. Or maybe Dr. Buss ran Shaq out of town and Kobe took the blame for it. I loved Shaq until he opened his big mouth and really now I think Kobe never said anything about Shaq in public. Shaq did.

If Kobe said Shaq was fat .. well he was.. Pat Riley made him shed a hundred pounds after Kobe said that.

Kobe's Colorado thing also did not help his image. Fans & Media all over wanted to see him buried. Against all odds he comes back and not only that now he is knocking on the door for a championship ring.

Bottom line .. when the game is on the line whose hands do you want the ball to be in?

Who cares what he does in personal life. Judge him on how he plays basketball.

EastCoastJessie,

You know how I feel.

5 down 4 to go, The speed of the Bandwagon increases mo & mo
Some who jumped off way back when, are running trying to get on again
Others just suddenly mysteriously appeared, after being away all year
But this is fine, there’s room for all, 5 more games then party time y’all
But tonight there’s business to do, like whipping the butts of you know who
I don’t think there will be a problem tonight, but just in case come ready to fight
But then again, I don’t think so, inside of every Thug is a punk you know
After throwing a punch you saw what MarshMellow did, Ran like a lil girl & hid
KMart pretends to be so tough, but when drafted he cried like a lil cream puff
Naw the Nugggets not bad at all, they just saw too many gang flicks at the mall
Let’s do like Kobe said & give them a hug, everyone needs one, yes even a thug
But before the hugs let’s play the game, Afterwards things might not be the same
Losing at home might be to much to bear, & a fight might break out up in there
But naw that’s just me I worry to much, about hugs, thugs, slugs & such
I need to worry about more important things, like how many diamonds in the Ring
And how many people can fit inside, of the new deluxe BandWagon Ride
Lots of volunteers for drivers I see, but riding shotgun is just fine for me
But before we can get to anything, we got to win the game to get the Ring.
Jon K for you, back undercover to scout our next victim, I pity the sucker

Jonathan you worte:

>>I'd be willing to put money on the fact that Andrew and Brian personally like Lebron better than Kobe,

-------------------

Who is Brian?

Andrew Bynum can like whoever he wants to. This is a Professional Sport and Andrew or anyone on that gets paid to play for Dr. Buss. Dr. Buss decided it was Kobe's team when he shipped Shaq long time ago. Even Phillup knows this is Kobe's team and really who would you come and watch the game for?

If Phillup did not have Kobe you think anyone would care about this team. You really think Bynum or Pau or anyone other than Kobe will be able to lead this team?

Another thing to note .. You all would agree that Phillup is the great NBA coach.. right? And This all so Great Coach coaches the Lakers because he has Kobe! He would leave Lakers in a heart beat if Lakers did not have Kobe.

Really.. who the hell is Bynum?

Holy crud Jon K,

Is the lucky barstool really out of commission?

I guess one of us will have to replicate the experience, as it were. They didn't stop worshiping Zeus when Theodosius II burnt his temple at Olympus did they? They just worshiped someplace else.

For this reason I say we all make our own lucky barstools at home. A daunting task, but one I think more than a few of us are up to.

What worries me is that I don't own a pair of pink dolphin shorts, so your patented bare-butt-on-vinyl ‘pink cheek’ voodoo may not come into full force, not at my house at least.

But before we take these steps--before there's a run on dolphin shorts, let us know if the bar is really closed down.

Wes

WCF Championship Day.

GO LAKERS.

There is also the pink lakers basball cap for the times we need to rally. I keep that one on the sidelines.Posted by: PsychedLakerGirl | May 29, 2009 at 08:15 AM

I'd kind of like to see you in the pink lakers cap & that's
all. That ought to get anybody to rally. Lol!

>>>Reading the article in the Denver Post about an unidentified
>>>Nuggets player that said the Lakers paid $50,000 to get a win
>>>last night due to the officiating leads me to say two things.

My thought on that was that it must have cost them more than $50K.

What about the 10K they paid JR Smith to shoot 3 for 10?

What about the 5K each to Nene and K-Mart to rebound half as hard
as they did in Denver?

What about the 1K per turnover they paid Carmelo (another 5K)?

What about the money they paid the Denver bigs to LET them block
their shots?

Maybe if those guys hadn't taken the bribes and had played like they
did in Denver, their team would have had a chance to win. But when
most of your team plays at half their potential, it's ludicrous to complain
about the refs.

What worries me is that I don't own a pair of pink dolphin shorts, so your patented bare-butt-on-vinyl ‘pink cheek’ voodoo may not come into full force, not at my house at least.

Oh Wes, Wes, I have a Purple thong you can borrow! ROFLMFAO!!!

PsychedLakerG,

I'd be care ful wearing them all, especially since we've got a 10 point loss coming.

Say it isn't so!

I hope they win, but history has a loud, coherent voice.

Wes

I still don't get it - why did Luke Walton head-butt the back side of LO's armpit?

There have got to be better ways of letting someone know you're hyped about their effort....

Doing that meant that Luke was actually playing the rest of the game with LO's pit-smell on his forehead.

That can't be good...

LOL!Posted by: justanothermambafan | May 28, 2009 at 07:02 PM

Lukes forehead probably smelled like gummy bears..lol

Yeah but we only use those Banners to polish our shoes.
If it's not a Finals banner...THROW IT BACK!!!!!!!

5 more wins.

Go Lakers

WHO THE HELL IS BYNUM?
WHO THE HELL IS MIKE?

Wes,

The lucky barstool will be active tonight, as it will on Sunday, if need be (let's hope not).

However, if the collective government regulatory enforcement wrath of Ohio rains down upon my local watering hole (which it may), then the barstool may be out of commission for a while.

Unless I some figure out a way to take it home or something.

There's always a way, Wes. There's always a way.

WE ARE THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AND WE RISE!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

How sweet will it be to raise the Western Conference Championship Trophy on Denver's center court?

Take that Thuggets!!!!

Us against the World!

WE ARE THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS AND WE RISE!!!!

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!!!

BK,

I prefer this one:

Wes if I were you I would go and discuss the outcome of
the game with Joe & Nixon one more time. Lol!

Go Lakers!

Keep Chauncey and JR Smith under control. Compete on the boards. Overcome the bad officiating and the altitude.

Let's win!
Go Lakers!

Mike,
"Night in Night out Kobe plays defense "
I disagree with that.

Psyched...I've never disclosed this seriously confidential information but my lucky Lakers shirt is the 0.4 Derek Fisher t-shirt that says "One Lucky Shot Deserves Another" on the front and 0.4 on the back.

Just love the good old days. GO LAKERS!

We can all watch the game butt nekkid and we'll still win tonight. You got that Mamba24???

LONG TIME LAKER I'm shocked! Positively shocked! Lol!

Jonathan, not true. Many lakers fans also like LBJ and his game.
I think Lebron is a great player and probably is the best player right now. The comparison isn't always fair though b/c Lebron is so much bigger and stronger. Like a PF playing SG. So obviously his #'s are going to look better. Before ppl annoint him the greatest, I wanted to see him perform in the playoffs, which he has done.
Yes, Kobe does have a better supporting cast. Before the ECF though, ppl were crowing Cavs the champs. This Cavs team reminds me of the pre-gasol lakers where Kobe had to carry the team because the others disappear under pressure.

As for the media bias, don't buy into it. They're a bunch of bandwagoners who will jump at the trendiest choices. Yesterday it was Kobe, today its LBJ. If LBJ loses, they will jump on Howard's bandwagon.
Also don't assume that Kobe is hated by everyone. He's actually more popular around the world than Lebron.
Proof: #1 selling jersey. #2 remember the olympics? Nike and COKE tried to make it Lebron's games.
However, Kobe was the people's champ.

EastCoastJessie how are you My princess? There will
be a whole lot of work not getting done today. But what's
the difference than any other day when the lakers play? Lol!

Bottom line .. when the game is on the line whose hands do you want the ball to be in?

Who cares what he does in personal life. Judge him on how he plays basketball.

i am a nobody

and for a nobody to think bynum is a nobody then bynum really is a nobody!

Psyched...

T-shirt don't matter. I'm still waiting on my pics of you in jeans! We still have a score to settle from the Houston series!

;o)

Jon K.: IMO, Twitter is only useful if you work it from a business angle (like I do). I manage a network of film clubs here and, ever since we jumped into the Twitterverse, we've gotten some pretty decent contacts & connections made.

Having said that, I can't see the K Bros sending 10000 Tweets during a game! Can't say what you wanna say in only 140 characters!

This die-hard Fan only has 1 request tonight from Phil:

Please...please....play Shannon and sit Fish.

Please don't make him sit till the end of the 3rd to give him a shot at Chauncy or were down by 20 and then you decide to play him.....please!!

With Fish starting tonight I expect to be down at the beginning. I want to see how long it takes him to go to Shannon. This will go a long way in determining if Phil naps during the game.

BD

So wait a minute, both AK and BK alledgedly like LBJ more than KB24 as a person?

Where do these mindless trolls come from?

Oh, that's right... they come from these ho dunk cities whenever LA is in town. Except this time, some guy got ahead of himself and came over here too soon... he should be gloating about last night's win over on some Orlando Magic blog somewhere...

Well, recent history might not be on our side, but my gut has a pretty good feeling. It's a beautifully sunny day here in Denver, and I'm expecting a UPS delivery later on this evening.

And Mamba24... I think we use these conference banners as shower mats when the series is over. Once they've served their purpose, I'm guessing they're donated to GoodWill to help our fellow bretheren... the only banners that are worth anything are the ones hanging in the rafters at Staples, and I'm hopeful to add a few more in the coming years.

With the power of the roll call, the power of the Utz prayer, with all of having the new power of the lucky barstool, the universe will once again be in balance as the Lakers take their rightful place in the NBA finals.

.X, X, X, X, X, X, X, X X, X, X, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ->Hit it Laker Tom Parade Time!!

I'm doing great sweetie...just acting like I'm working today. You're 100% right...We're all just acting busy at the office. We hear footsteps outside our office and quickly switch to the busiest looking spreadsheet you can find. We lay out a million things on our desk just to look like we have something to do...when in fact, we're all just blogging along on the Lakers blog. Hehehe

JON K. Listen to me very carefully. It is now time to invoke the power of "The Lucky BarStool".

The Luck is not in the BarStool Jon K, young Jedhi.
The power is in you. So whether we have the
Lucky Barstool or not is immaterial. It just matters
that YOU BELIEVE!!!!! LOL!

DFish just might surprise you tonight BD.

Score more than the Nuggets.
And, if the Lakers keep the Nuggets in double digits, and score in triple digits, it will be easier for the Nuggets' fans to figure out which number is bigger, and thus they will be less likely to cry "Conspiracy!!" If both teams score less than 100, or both score 100 or more, some of the Nuggets fans will have problems with the arithmetic.

Mike,
"Night in Night out Kobe plays defense "
I disagree with that.

----------------------------------------------------------

Maybe you are right. I have not each and every game. I did see him leaving Battier for the 3 pt shots and helping out on the post. Maybe he did not respect him. Maybe it was Lakers strategy to let him take the 3's. In the end Lakers won 4-3 so something worked.

But you should look at Kobe Bryant's Resume:

7× All-Defensive First Team
(2000, 2003–2004, 2006–2009)

2× All-Defensive Second Team
(2001–2002)

-----------------

NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award

2000–01 Mutombo, DikembeDikembe Mutombo Center
2001–02 Wallace, BenBen Wallace Center/Forward
2002–03 Wallace, BenBen Wallace Center/Forward
2003–04 Artest, RonRon Artest Forward/Guard
2004–05 Wallace, BenBen Wallace Center/Forward
2005–06 Wallace, BenBen Wallace Center/Forward
2006–07 Camby, MarcusMarcus Camby Center
2007–08 Garnett, KevinKevin Garnett Forward
2008–09 Howard, DwightDwight Howard Center

The only freak on this list is Artest who is a gaurd like Kobe otherwise this Defensive player award only goes to Centers.

Again, in final seconds you want Kobe gaurding Lebron or the best gaurd/forward on a team or do you want Artest? As good of a defender Artest is he cannot stop Kobe or Lebron. And this is my take: Kobe is better on defense than on offense. That says a lot because no one can really stop him one on one on offense.

I have not watched each and every game of Kobe.

Phil played Shannon
Lamar played like he wants to stay at Venice beach on his summer vacation
Things are looking up

Oh I forgot EastCoast what do you want me to do
with the Purple & Gold thong? Lol!

FROM LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

BONJOUR GUYS,

IF OUR TEAM WANTS TO CLOSE OUT TODAY IT WILL HAPPEN.

ONE THING WE KNOW FOR SURE THAT OUR TEAM WILL MAKE THE FINAL AND GET THE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR, NO MATTER IF THEY GO TROUGH A GAME 7 EACH TIME.

FOCUS, PASSION, DEFENSE=WIN

PEOPLE IN LAS VEGAS LOVE OUR LAKERS

I WILL WATCH THE GAME AT THE PALMS HOTEL IN FLAMINGO

LOVE TO OUR TEAM AND TO ALL

HERE! HERE!

Mamba - you r a nut! But I like it.

UTZ - say a few more prayers for that picture, my friend. I am just a regular LL Bean kind of girl - boot cut.

ECJ - Girls are going to be rocking the Laker spirit 2 nite!

I guess the black shirt is out. But I am thinking the D-Fish one should be given another chance....for old time sake.

GO LAKERS!

Psyched: Even girls who rock LL Bean are HOT in my book. It ain't what you wear but how you wear it. I'm sure you're wear it well!

:o)

Jonathan,

>>>btw - has anyone ever noticed that the ONLY people who hate
>>>Lebron and the Cavs are Lakers fans? And how people just
>>>about everywhere can't stand Kobe? T

Wow, we already have a Cleveland troll on the blog, despite the fact that
neither the Lakers nor the Cavs have made it to the finals yet. Imagine
that.

Yep. People everywhere can't stand Kobe.

That's why his jersey is the #1 seller in the NBA (LeBron is third,
behind Kevin Garnett & Kobe). I guess all those people buying
Kobe's jersey must be LeBronze fans buying it to burn it, right?

Welcome to the blog, little troller. We've already dismissed all the
Utah trolls, Houston trolls, and we're hoping to finish off the Denver
trolls tonight. The Phoenix and Boston trolls are more persistent, so
I suspect they'll be here until the Lakers win the championship, at
which point they will become mysteriously silent.

Have fun, and be sure to wipe the virtual blood off your virtual nose
after getting smacked up by the regulars here.
