Beauty amidst the rumbleness

Lost in all the controversy of the big shoulders, flying elbows, questions about who should get suspended and why?  A lot of the fun stuff from last night's game that didn't involve anger and violence.

Stuff like this:

Just sayin'... that's pretty sweet.

I don't know BK...I'm angry that wasn't an "And 1". Yao clearly fouled Kobe. Lakers could've used the extra point!

Holy Moly the man is talented!

When I look at that I am amazed that he just created for himself in a split second. A SPLIT SECOND, PEOPLE.

You go, Kobe. Yeah.

GO LAKERS!

That was a thing of beauty, from conception to execution.

KOBE’S SELF-ASSIST…

This is actually the second time this year that Kobe has passed the ball to himself off the glass. I cannot remember which game he did it earlier in the season but I do remember that we lost the game and Kobe’s play sort of got lost in the dust. It was great to see him reprise the play this time in the playoffs. If you watch, you can also see two more uncalled Rocket fouls on this play. And he definitely should have gotten a dime or board.

I guess in David Stern’s new NBA, the superstar double standard will continue to prevail. Touch LeBron or Wade and it is automatic free throws. Beat and batter Kobe and is just tough defense. What a joke. Just like the claims that there is no longer any media bias against Kobe. Only in the dreams of the Celtics and Cavaliers and AK and BK. Give Kobe the same calls as LeBron and Wade and he would be unguardable. And he would not have to resort to dealing out justice with his elbows.

We saw the key to beating the Rockets last night, which is take the ball to Yao. You will either get a layup, a foul, or wear the guy down so that he is a shadow of himself in the fourth quarter. This will be critical in Houston. Whether it be Pau or Drew or Lamar posting up or Kobe driving, we need to attack Yao. His lack of lateral and jumping ability will result in easy frustrating fouls and lots of time on the pine to rest.

Lakers in Five!

Tom

yeah, i spilled my drink over that.

What is Collins saying, "I've seen him do that a lot." The only time I've seen that in a game is McGrady during an All-Star game when nothing was on the line.

Kobe did that same self-assist in the semi-final game in Utah last season. Just like poetry in motion.... AMAZING!

Awesome. Quite an improvisation given the moment.

The refs were SO AMAZED, they failed to realize the foul on yao.

Lotta talk about "dirty" after this game. Sounds good to me. Much better than "soft".

I have yet to see a video that shows Fish connect with an elbow to the Argentinian softie's head. Kobe was boxing out a 260 lb man. When doing this you better bring your ass and both elbows and bring them hard. If they give him a flag. 1 for this, they better be ready to give it to everyone in the league who boxes out in the play-offs.

You wanna see a dynasty in LA over the next several years? Trade some of this basketball talent for Artest over the summer. Add a little more toughness to this team and you'll see real results.

In fact, make me the owner/driver/whatever of the trade for Artest in the off-season bandwagon!

Speaking of trades, think we can trade some of Bynum's athletic ability for Some of Kendrick Perkins heart? We'd both have all-star centers then.

Andrew Bynum is a funny player.
Andrew Bynum is the type of person who you wish you can just hang a permanent notepad around his neck and write down all of the negative stuff people have said about him.

Because the funny thing is, once this guy gets going, I don't think that you will find any piece of evidence more incriminating than that book right there.

Timing is really everything for him and he catches his rhythm at a dinosaurs pace, but once he finds it it's on like Donkey Kong!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will he find it before the series is over????
Who knows, but he WILL find it!!!!!!!

hog

Yeh that was awesome.

One curious question on this: Was this play eligible to give Kobe an (official) assist to get on record?

Awesome!

Go Lakers!!!

It struck me last night and it struck me again just now seeing it again: When Collins said, "I've seen him do that a lot," uh, just when would he have seen that?

Desiguy, I believe Collins was referring to seeing Kobe do this a lot during practice. I'm quite sure the reference to Practice was somewhere in his talk.

Great video of the Kobe elbow - connecting with Artest's CHEST, not his throat.

Does Artest realize that there are cameras all around the arena? The crybaby routine (from a guy with a rep for being extremely physical) is really sad. I can only hope that the rockets are similarly desperate.

UNREAL the fourth time around!

fish probebly will get suspended Kobe won't, but suspended or not you look at polls around the us and the world and you get the feeling that people don't like Kobe very much or even the lakers. and the Nba sees the possibilities i mean $$$ with yao in the final. so the lakers should go to Houston no talking to the refs no trash talking with the rockets players just focus play their game and show that they are a much better basket ball team, win game 3 and than every one are going to shut up!

Apparently you guys don't watch the Lakers as much as most of us do, but this is at least the 3rd time I've seen Kobe do that in an actual game.

Don’t look now but there has been a beastly sighting!!!

KL "The Easter Bunny" has returned to add some leadership to the 'Troll Nation".

At least KL is predictable in what he says and does not take him so seriously as 131-92, who obviously could not spell Celtics so he had to use his vast imagination to come up with a box score as his name!!!

Aaaaaaah

Angry_Laker

WOW , I say this beacuse , I guess has any one here been watching the real MVP Lebron James games,
Talk about poetry in motion , consitant poetry at that, Kobe comes through once in while after he gets those reality eye opening checks , Lebron a Living Playing Legend.
No drama , No frustrating Elbow throws, Just pure passion and professional drive baby . Beautiful.
I AM A WITNESS

That's exactly what I've been posting about!!! There is a close up of it which is even more amazing. The toss off glass is precise down to the spin. WOW!! Virtuoso performance. Amazing happened there for sure!

GOOOooOOOO LAKERS!!!!!

THE SOFTIE JOURNAL - Game 2, Rockets v. Lakers
=======
As a dedication to a certain blogger's lover for Kwame Brown's calves and disdain for Chris Mihm's weak ankles, I point out the soft and tough qualities of the Lakers game.
=======

This game was a MASTERPIECE from a Softie Journal perspective. ALL Laker fans have been waiting for the retaliation from last year's finals. When were we going to stop being punked? When were were going to stand up for ourselves and RISK IT ALL to prove a point?

Finally, someone other than Kobe Bryant was willing to stick his neck into the FIRE and get it freakin ON.

Some Notable points from game 2:
- Derek Fisher. Plain & Simple, you've sucked in the playoffs. Missing open shots, getting used by Aaron Brooks. But last nite you made probably the single biggest play of the Lakers' playoff run. You proved we wont be punked and LAID OUT Scola. That was worth it in my book even with the suspension.
Charmin Rating: -10 Rolls .. NEGATIVE! Fish went hard...

- Kobe Bryant - Dropped 40 on Shane, and showed Artest that he wont be pushed around. Funny how Artest bullies people all game and then gets mad when he gets some Elbow Love back.
Charmin Rating: -10 Rolls... NEGATIVE!

- Odom/Walton - I like that they were willing to tumble. Walton played pretty well against Artest and prevented his Bully act in the 3rd quarter. I expect him to start. Odom is a guy you hate to love and love to hate. He does so much good, but how can you put up with the missed FTs and bonehead plays? AT the very least, he is sticking up for himself and not being punked out there:
Charming Rating: 0 Rolls out of 5

- Bynum - Yo Bynum, when you check out of your hotel room let the team know you are ready to play. Sheeesh. Give us some rebounds, block shots, SOMETHING. LakerTom will be rolling in his grave after this series. Worst of All you let Landry drop 16 points on you in the 2nd quarter and are the KEY component behind all our 2nd unit lead collapses. Stick to the bench until you find your game.
Charmin Rating: 3 Rolls out of 5

That's all we got folks. I'm so amped up. Anybody wearing rockets red in my vicinity, might get socked up on sight! haha...

CANT WAIT for next game...

Kind of cool that the Lakers won by their average margin against the Rockets in the regular season - 13 points.

Walton was absolutely a difference-maker last night. It would be nice if he knocked down the open shot, but the offense was much more fluid when he was in the game, and he played solid D on Artest, getting a few deflections, and 5 assists to boot!

Go Lakers.

Scott

Nice tribute Korey.

That Kobe move was all BALLS.
I'm sure that kind of move is practiced by many players in playgrounds everywhere.
But to try a ridiculous playground move in the NBA playoffs when your team is down one game at home is pure HUEVOS.

The NBA is making me very angry. There is a double standard against Kobe Bryant, no doubt about. It is Bs how the NBA punished Kobe by giving him a flagrant 1. I know Artest was ejected but I feel that is not enough. going up to a player and getting in his face that should be an automatice suspension for the series. The NBA should not allow that. What about the no call's in game 5 with the Bulls/Celtics? Rondo fouling Brad miller by hitting him in the face and causing his mouth to bleed. that should have been a flagrant 2 and the foul against Hindrich also by Rondo which should have also been a flagrant 2. The non call goaltending by the Celtics. that is totally bs.

Laker Tom....

You are right when you question the calls that Kobe doesn't get. You know how I feel, cause we've agreed on this before. Shane Battier AND Ron Artest are beating the snot out of Kobe. I can live with that, but the holding and grabbing are just too much. Shane also hits Kobe as he follows through on his jumper. It's a tough, physical game. We all know that. But, at some point it ceases to be basketball and morphs into something different unless the referees do their jobs.

It's funny that Kobe was able to operate inside in the fourth quarter. I wonder why, maybe, just maybe, the "rumbleness" that preceded had anything to do with it?

>you look at polls around the us and the world and
>you get the feeling that people don't like Kobe very >much or even the lakers

Kobe's jersey is the no.1 seller. I guess people actually paid money just to burn it to demonstrate their hatred of him.

I think i'll try that move out on the playground later today. :)

Yeah, that play was really something. Both me and my girlfriend lost it for a bit on that one.

Moments like that are a big reason why I watch.

"What is Collins saying, "I've seen him do that a lot." The only time I've seen that in a game is McGrady during an All-Star game when nothing was on the line."
