Light Sunday perusin'
Ain't much in the way of NBA news this morning, much less a slew of articles specifically centering around the purple and gold. But these days, there ain't much that would truly qualify as "Laker news," save the occasional update on the status of a closer-to-a-return Andrew Bynum. On that front, we'll keep you in the loop.
As BK reported during yesterday's "Can't Buy Me Love" tinged practice report, Drew was working himself up a sweat, and not by doing the African anteater ritual dance (and thus, by definition, the entire team didn't eventually join in). Bynum took part in a five-on-five scrimmage, roundball run that included glass crashing, heavy contact, bucket attempts, and everything else one would desire to see.
Well, almost everything. There wasn't much in the way of stamina, but considering how long he's been sidelined, it's no surprise Drew was sucking wind. But this scrimmage represented a crucial "baby" step towards
making headlines for things other the lady company on his shoulders (although in the eyes of the LAT's Mark Heisler, the stir caused is more a reflection of today's journalism world than Bynum's actual behavior). Besides, if Drew hadn't hit the Mansion for some fun, we'd have been robbed of these fun images, courtesy the Lakers Blog faithful's creative minds.
And speaking of Photoshop zaniness, reader "Buddy Monk" took inspiration from both Drew's night our and our latest 710 ESPN podcast. Granted, he confused his K Brothers (it was actually BK who played rec ball with the sports bra gal), but who can blame Buddy, considering Steve Mason only remembers us as "the bald one and the other one," and he's worked with us for almost two years? So kudos, Buddy. Good stuff.

"Peruse" is the most abused word in the English language. It means "to scour or to review with deep attention to detail" but people use it as if it means "to scan or quickly review."
Thus, you cannot "lightly peruse" something.
Next thing you know AK is going to start writing threads using text language.

You can lightly peruse if there isn't much material to actually read. Hence, a light day of reading.

AK,
Ummm... I suppose, but it's still a bit like saying "lightly demolish." "Peruse" is meant to communicate depth of attention of study. So by using the phrase "lightly peruse" you inherently diminishing the quality of intensity the word is meant to convey.
You know I'm right, but I shan't belabor the point any further.

Actually, both definitions of peruse are correct:
1 a: to examine or consider with attention and in detail : study b: to look over or through in a casual or cursory manner
2: read ; especially : to read over in an attentive or leisurely manner
— pe·rus·al \-ˈrü-zəl\ noun

Yes, true jonny, but not the only bit of the language we abuse is it?
What about saying "I could care less" when they mean "I couldn't care less"? Huh?

Pop was asked what it would take to be the 2nd team to beat the Cavs in Cleveland during the break?
"We have to be as good as the Lakers, and we're not."
That's funny.

I think that it would be a big, big boost for the Lakers and the fans if Andrew surprised everyone tonight by playing even a few minutes. Maybe PJ will surprise us tonight. Welcome back to the Beast!!!
Maybe I'm crazy, but as I'm watching the Cavs play the Spurs, I can't help but think that other than LeBron no one else on that team scares me when it comes to a possible finals matchup between the Lakers and Cavs. I really think that we can PUNISH them inside and just destroy them with either Pau, Bynum and LO. Then of course we have Kobe. I think that the Magic because of Howard and all their outside shooters and obviously Boston would be the tougher competition.

Jon K,
"Peruse" is the most abused word in the English language."
I beg to differ. The "S word" is the most abused, because it can have a meaning from great to horrible and everything in between.

re: the Heisler article, who's pinkalink... was that an actual post? I was figuring that Jon's diatribe should have been recognized. It would have been very perusable.
The Phoenix debacle (3rd winding down) is painful. Almost unwatchable. Actually, it is unwatchable.

Pinkalink,
Actually, the word isn't considered "acceptable" by LAT standards. Shouldn't have gone through in the first place, but that's as much our fault as yours. Either way, congrats on getting quoted in a major newspaper. haha

ANYBODY ELSE THINK THAT…
…the sky is still falling now that we are closing in on the Cavs for best record and Andrew Bynum is suddenly on the verge of returning to action?
…the Lakers are NOT going to win out the rest of the regular season now that Andrew Bynum is ready to start seeing some action?
…the Celtics will probably fold their tent against the Cavs so as not to help the Lakers win home court advantage by securing the best record?
…there is another player on the Cavaliers other than LeBron James who the Lakers have to fear in the event they meet in the NBA Finals?
…Kevin Garnett’s injury comeback may end up dooming the Celtics hopes to repeat whereas Andrew Bynum’s may end up propelling the Lakers to the title?
…for the same reason we do not want Andrew playing next week against the Grizzlies, we should consider playing him tonight against the Clippers?
…the Lakers are a better team with Pau Gasol at center with an express lane always open to the paint inviting teams to make easy layups and dunks?
…the blog has been far too serious lately and it’s great to have Fatty back stirring up our sense of humor, “practicing psychoanalysis without a license,” and talking up LSD?
…perusing the Lakers Blog would be a lot more enjoyable if the KamBros focused on the posters as their bread and butter rather than the readers?
…notice that the Lakers Blog is rapidly evolving into the SNL of NBA blogs what with the KamBros March Madness, Photoshop contests, and constant pop culture references?
…Jon K’s banishment to Cleveland must in some way be punishment from God, who is a Lakers fan, for his unconscionable support of the Clippers?
…humanomaly was correct in stating the “committee” was the only word in the English language with 3 sets of double letters?’
