Game Chat- Lakers at Kings
In their last game, the Kings lost to a pretty bad Golden State team that dressed only seven healthy players. And not the good ones, either. Sacto's starting lineup consisted of Francisco Garcia, Beno Udrih, Spencer Hawes, Andres Nocioni, and Jason Thompson. And while Nocioni is tougher than crazy Aunt Mildred's pot roast and Garcia, Hawes, and Thompson all have some skill, how many of these guys would start for a decent NBA team?
Kudos to Kurt at FB & G for giving a game preview the ol' college try, but really, there's nothing to break down here. If the Lakers play reasonably well, there will be no shameful encore to their last visit to Arco.
That means we can focus on the playoffs. And when you think playoffs, you think drama. And when you think drama, you think Machine (via Lakers-fan.com):
The minute this guy incorporates "English Baby!" into one of these vids, he'll officially become the Spielberg of the Interweb.

I like PJ keeping a perimeter and a big starter to work in the subs.
Shannon Brown has heart. I like the kid.
One Love to all the live thread bloggers and the rests of the fam...

The only thing that irritates me about this game tonight is that Pau was worked hard for 37 minutes. He needs rest probably more than any other Laker. C'mon Phil.

how ironiccccc is it that the dunk like sasha video is posted and he completelyyyyyyy posterized the king player tonight hahahaah

Congratulations to the 2nd Unit for breaking out of the slump and this time extending the lead. This was their victory.
Biggest props is no doubt LUKE freakin Walton. Even the Luke Haters have to give him props for his near double double. Shannon Brown shows he may be better than Jordan Farmar overall down the road.
Sasha again with a great performance and a poster on Francisco Garcia! Props to him.
Pau Gasol remains the MOST CONSISTENT Laker. That doesn't mean most Valuable and even Laker Tom has to admit that.
Great game for the Lakers and finally some earned rest for the starters. Bynum may or may not be back on Thursday but hey see what PRACTICE can do?
We talkin about Practice!
"From what I've heard, the Lakers aren't happy with Jordon's performance or attitude. I wouldn't be surprised if they look to go in another direction. Of course opportunity dictates that sort of thing."
More Shannon Brown? Could be!

Points in the paint!!!!
I've been harping on it for 2.5 weeks...thank you Phil for drilling that into these guys. See how much better we are when we stop settling fir quick jumpshots and we penetrate and dish?!?!?
Keep taking it to the hole!!!!!!

That pissed me off too. I hate seeing him out on the floor late in the game, especially up 19 or so. Please.

HA! Noticed when Phil took Farmar out the game late in the 4th and put in Shannon. He played well this game. Wonder what Jordan was thinking.
I though the second unit really redeemed themselves this game. Love how they pushed the ball up the court, made crisp and decisive passes, and made shots. Sasha with the nice touch tonight! Let's hope they keep it up.
I'm still looking forward to kicking the crap outta Portland. I want that game SO much - if for nothing else to shut Portland up about the "rivalry." Yeah. Right. Rivalry. *Rolls eyes*
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!
ps - A shout out to Luke for his play tonight. He looked good! LLLLLLuuuuuukkkkeeeee....

dunk like machine vid lead to machine dunk in game. spooky.
is it me or was there a lot of audio drop-outs during the game tonight? i'm guessing that was the "dump" button that gets used to catch curse words that accidentally get picked up by the mics. nocal fans have potty mouths?
i have one word to describe joe maloof's pregame interview with money on 570. pwned. he was kissing the ring, the feet, the butt and anything else lakers he could get his lips on. talking about how this franchise is the model of consistency. about how it's great that we have icons like magic active in the community. how he thinks the lakers will win it all this year. what a contrast from earlier this decade.
this was a break-thru game for shannon brown. b/c for the first time, he looked fully integrated into the team. like he was just playing his game and contributing.
the media is really pushing having drew back for thursday. did i miss phil saying something to that effect? from the video i saw of yesterday's practice, it sounded like memphis was the target.

I know I've been posting a lot of links today (especially Machine-related ones), but this is just precious:

Even more precious than "English, baby!"
Oh, someone needs to show this to Sasha.

You see Blitz, there are no Luke haters if Luke does not give any fan the reason or the platform to hate him. All fans want their team to succeed and they express their pain when they're failing and not doing anything on their perceived handicaps. As long as they show effort and try harder, no fan will hate a Laker for the sake of hatin' Tonight, it was a teamwork and less individuality, same with Sasha who excelled when he passes first and find his niche whether jump shot or dunk...he's the machine. Lately, Laker fans are more enamored with the new eagle that plays above the rim, yes that is Shannon. If he plays more with Kobe & Ariza, this kid will be the 3rd power in the orbit. Someone said, play only 9 players during the playoffs. I say NO play 11 and make them pay. We need energy, toughness and defense, you can't rely too much to Kobe, Pau and Fisher tired legs during the season and make them play 40 minutes during the playoffs.

Here are the last remaining games to determine the MVP and the homecourt advantage.
IMO, at this point Lebron is way ahead against sportswriters vote, even 60 minutes picked him up .
On Cavaliers side, they have still 2 games on the road against Pacers and Sixers and three home games namely Celtics, Wizards and Sixers. Lakers are left with a road game with Blazers and three home games against Griz, Nuggets and Jazz. I think Lakers still have the chance to catch up with the Cavaliers. Should PJ rest Kobe and Pau and let the season end from here or play them till the last drop on 82nd game? Why play Bynum against Grizz, what tactical advantage of his possible exposure to re-injury on a sub 500 team. I say play Bynum for few minutes against Blazers and Jazz.

"I've seen it all. Sasha dunked on somebody. I'm ready to retire now,."
--- Kobe Bryant.
LOL. GO LAKERS!!!

Did anyone noticed how Shannon Brown has the intensity Ariza brings coming off the bench. Could this be the beginning of an end for Jordan Farmar. He could be traded next summer.
Who has still more upside Brown or Farmar?
Who can be a long term better teammate chemistry wise?

How did I miss all those great machine vids from that guy during last year's playoffs? He may not be Speilberg but he's at least a Dennis Dugan.

Man finaly there is a god. Wow we do have a second unit. Great job guys. But we got tuff work on thursday after all we just beat the weakest team in the nba.
Posted by: omega | April 07, 2009 at 11:12 PM
I wouldl ike to see this five play together.
Bynum
Odom
Ariza
Bryant
Brown
Athletic, tough, defensive minded group.
Gasol
Walton
Morrison
Sasha
Farmar
Athletic-less, soft, offensive minded group.

Great win..now let's get business done in Portland on Friday. Can't afford another spanking by those clowns. Drew should be ready to go too so all cylinders will be clicking.
It's get ready time.
