Sun Yue's Day in the D

44 Minutes, 11 points on 4-15 shooting, 2-7 from behind the arc, 7 dimes, 3 turnovers, 2 blocks and a reasonable amount of satisfaction in the performance, since he's barely played in an actual game since arriving in the States.   In particular, Sun Yue was more pleased with his performance in the second half.  The lack of familiarity with teammates while directing traffic (Sun started at small forward) was also offset to some degree by knowing the game plan.

"It's helpful to practice in the triangle offense.  Both teams use the same offensive system.  That helped me a lot.

Phil Jackson said that Sun is likely to play in tomorrow's D-Fender game and whether he'll accompany the team on the upcoming roadie remains to be seen. (I'm guessing no.)  PJ also said the decision to send him down came in part because Sun, beyond the lack of PT in Lakers games, has been nursing an injury that has also prevented him from practicing much.  Thus, a need to shake off some rust.  I had no idea Sun was even hurt, and his definitely qualifies as the most bizarre injury of the season.  Kid badly cut his right big toe while shaving off dead skin.  "Medium rare," he jokingly described the red exposed by the gash.  It's healed to the point that Sun can play with a pad inserted into his shoe.

Gotta say, I've been covering sports a while, that's a first.  Next time, Sun, might I recommend a Ped Egg?

AK,
I watched most of the game and sun did not play the point that much.. he did not bring the ball up too.. Joe crawford did that.. And Joe Crawford is really good.. He has a very good jump shot and shoots the 3 very well..

LAKER GURU FROM INDIA

Just watched the interview with Drew on the pregame where he talked about his progress. He said he's on the bike and elliptical to stay in shape. He does squats and band work to strengthen. All forward back movement and nothing lateral yet. He hopes to get on the treadmill beginning of next week. He's 100% guaranteeing he'll be back before the end of the season. He said we're in week 5 and his goal is to be back by week 10 (the week starting April 5). What "back" means, I'm not sure. Don't know if that means back to practice or back in a game. Hope he stays on track and on schedule.

Just watched the pregame interview with PJ. Billy Mac asked him about Shaq and Ron Jeremy. He said Shaq is just being a comedian and might be out to prove a point about being the one and only Superman. Billy asked him about TO and how to handle a me-first player. He said TO is one of the nicest guys you meet and that sometimes you have to feed that me-first part of their personality to get them to perform to their potential. He talked about bringing Rodman in and being able to get the most out of him. Lastly, he said the only goal for this last stretch of games is to for the team to be playing great defense. He was emphatic about it. "Defense, defense, defense" I believe was the quote.

The Ped Egg is sweet. Just don't get it mixed up with your cheese grater.

Laker Guru,

You are correct. I was initially given the positional info incorrectly, although others did say he helped direct traffic. Thank you for the heads up, at any rate.

Sunny-D anyone?

The one good thing is that Phil has talked about Sun in the "long term", as opposed to the Donald Sterling "How's my team doing today? program), which hopefully means, that he and the organization, or I should say the organization and he has seen something that is worth keeping around to check out. (and that it's not all air moving out of his mouth to be PC....) It would be a shame it it turns out to be one of those wrong place, wrong situation things....maybe we could send him to our other D-league team, the Clippers of Anaheim (I wish, because they deserve each other).....
