They don't shoot the ball particularly well and they love to run, those Philadelphia 76ers. Take care of the ball, take good shots, resist the urge to launch bombs from the perimeter. Don't make me regret not making room on the DVR for this one...

We will be lucky to get to the finals of the WC this year. Good teams do not lose on buzzer beaters..

FARMAR SUCKS
SMUSH FARMAR
HE IS GARBAGE
Posted by: Tom | March 17, 2009 at 09:55 PM
Fire the coach and the player, this loss will probably cost the Lakers home court advantage, how stupid can you be?

CAN WE START PANICKING NOW?

FARMAR VUJACIC and Walton All SUCK
HORRIBLE BENCH
Posted by: Tom | March 17, 2009 at 09:56 PM
76ers deserved to win - that was a big time 3.
Lakers deserved to lose for giving up their lead twice. Though Kobe hit that clutch shot he was in when the sixers made their run. Farmar and Sasha gave up two runs.
Posted by: LakerinBC | March 17, 2009 at 09:56 PM
Not good. No killer instinct. Giving up huge leads late in the game. Late game 3's. All of the Laker weak points came back tonight. Oh well. Lets hope the Cavs finally lose a game or two.
Posted by: troy | March 17, 2009 at 09:57 PM
At least from this game we learned that if we need Sasha and Farmar to play more than 10 minutes each we're screwed.
Also somebody should fine Ariza for that retarded play... he cost the lakers the game by not fouling there, absolutely pathetic. And the sad thing is, everybody knows those same pathetic mistakes will happen again because this team is dumb and poorly coached, I bet PJ won't even mention to Ariza that he should have fouled on that play...what an absolute joke, this team won't win this championship because they are too damn weak..
Posted by: Brazilian Laker | March 17, 2009 at 09:57 PM
YOU CAn tell he was going for the three! GOD DANG IT
ariza ariza ariza....
FARMAR VUJACIC WALTON ALL PIECE OF GARBAGE
Posted by: Tom | March 17, 2009 at 09:58 PM
JORDAN FARMAR IS A COCKY non significant player who cries and whines too much.
Posted by: Tom | March 17, 2009 at 09:59 PM
The Lakers had better get their act together very soon. This team is not playing championship basketball at this point in the season.
I'm just absolutely flabbergasted by what I saw out of the Lakers tonight. Jordan Farmar, and Sasha Vujacic are not the players they were last season and it's a trend now. There aren't any more excuses for their performance and Phil is tight about their inability to close teams out. No killer instinct at all.
I'm really disgusted.

Leave it to Lakers Live to keep showing the final play over and over.
Posted by: troy | March 17, 2009 at 09:59 PM
I am not in the Staples Center. Can someone in the Staples Center know if anyone other than Stu shouted to foul?
Can Phil supporter explain Phil's coaching?
Posted by: PJDoubter | March 17, 2009 at 09:59 PM
MVP watch:
Kobe: 5-15, 11 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 turnovers, 4 fouls, clutch shot with 6 seconds left to give them the lead after going 0-5 to that point in the 4th. All against 33-31 Philly at home. Lakers were -9 when Kobe was on the court.
Lebron: 15-27 and 4-7 on threes, 43 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 turnovers, 1 foul, clutch three with 47 seconds left to give the Cavs the lead and 2 FTs 8.6 seconds left to put the game away, scores 21 points in the final 13 minutes of the game to bring Cleveland back from a 9-point deficit. All against 49-17 Orlando. Cavs were +5 when Lebron was on the court.

Kobe slept walked throughout this game.
Posted by: troy | March 17, 2009 at 10:00 PM
That was solid D by Ariza just better O........The real question is what were Phil's instructions to the team coming out of that timeout with a foul to give?
I am sure you will hear a lot of "they" and "them" coming from Phil in the post-conference
Posted by: pfunk36 | March 17, 2009 at 10:01 PM
It is not a "killer instinct" problem. We have no bench. When we get a lead, we put in the "bench mob." That is what happens to our leads, not that we lack "drive" or "instinct."
GOOOOoooOOOO LAKERS!!!!
Posted by: JohnnyP | March 17, 2009 at 10:01 PM
what really sucks about this is most of cavs remaining games are at home this game might cost us home court advantage. all i want to know is why we didn't foul when we had one to give.......
Posted by: cinz | March 17, 2009 at 10:02 PM
Lack of focus have caused the lakers lose.
Looks like they're already daydreaming in the last 6 secs instead of coveing Iggy.
Bad mental lapse
Posted by: LakerNZ | March 17, 2009 at 10:02 PM
WOW! Not that's playing with a real sense of urgency? Foul to give, but no, let's let them have a game winning three! Really, There is real reason to have concern for this team. Drew where are you? The only good thing is in the playoffs, hopefully PJ will only play the subs when starters need a short breather! Oh, I always forget, that would take coaching!
Posted by: DJ | March 17, 2009 at 10:02 PM
even tho we lost it was still a fun game. This was a good lesson for lakers not to give up the lead And one more thing road teams most of the time go for the win. Plus we HAD A FOUL TO GIVE. i dont think we will keep up with cavs but we will with celtics.
Posted by: omega | March 17, 2009 at 10:02 PM
I don't care what anyone says...Farmar/Sasha kill momentum..as soon as Farmar came in the lead vanished...he sucks and will always suck..he stinked at UCLA even...Collison>Farmar....
Posted by: Drew | March 17, 2009 at 10:02 PM
Phil supporters have been giving excuse after excjuse for him. How could someone explain away that Phil did not teach the players to foul?
Posted by: PJDoubter | March 17, 2009 at 10:03 PM
They needed this loss.
Losses like this are a wake up call.
Losses like this reveal character.
Losses like this are just the kick in the n u t s necessary to make the kids realize just how Real this is.
All that talk from Phil & Kobe about lacking killer instinct and LO and the youngin's just brushed their shoulders off like it's no big deal.
They needed this loss.
The difference between the O'Brien residing at the Garden and why it doesn't reside at Staples? Hate 'em or love 'em, at least the Celtics play ball for 48 intense and focused minutes every night.
We play focused & intent for only 36 minutes...unless it's one of the elite teams.
That's how Sacto beat us. That's how Portland beat us. That's how Trevor didn't use the foul we had to give when Iguodala was plotting that last second shotgun blast to the heart of Laker Nation.
We were not focused. We got bored. Complacent. And tonight we paid the price.
Can you imagine paying the ultimate price come June?
Don't get it twisted, this is not a THE SKY IS FALLING MESSAGE. I will not waste our time with trade proposals and yakking about who needs to be benched and who needs to sent to the D League.
This is the truth. Unless the Los Angeles Lakers can discipline themselves enough to play 48 MINUTES OF FOCUSED & INTENSE BASKETBALL EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, we will not win the Championship. Plain and simple.
Anyone who can't cosign on that, I wonder if you're truly a Laker fan at all.
Posted by: utzworld - THE BANNER HOLDER | March 17, 2009 at 10:03 PM
LAKERS HAS NO KILLER INSTINCT AT ALL. How can you lose an 11 points lead and a 14 points lead in your homecourt? Forget about the RING. This bunch of boneheads will not go past the second round, They're good and done after the second round. Goodbye parade. No thanks for this bunch of lameducks who made us dream of that championship. See you next year!!!
Posted by: rafanico | March 17, 2009 at 10:03 PM
Wow,
The game I don't make my predictions we lose. Seriously, Smush Farmar and Puke Walton cost us this game. I was hoping that last three would drop.
Posted by: never | March 17, 2009 at 10:03 PM
I got faith in this Laker team. This isnt a 100% effort. Yeh we lost and that sucks but this loss doesnt meant anything to us. Once bynum gets back, all the pieces will be complete again and the Great Battle WILL take place in JUNE. Beleve that. PEace

Phil Jackson, once again...
Snatches defeat...from the jaws of victory...
I thought Dunleavy was the worst at in-game adjustments...
I apologized to Phil...
I take it back...
Once again, he waits till a lead is completely gone to react...
Once again, he can't coach his players on a final play...
Only one shot hurts you...
You have a foul to give...
Phil doesn't like to take the foul...
And...
We lose...
Forget the BS calls on Kobe to keep him out of the game...
Forget that it would never happen to LeBron or Wade, especially at home...
We still had the game...except for Phil...
And I'll bet you anything he blames the players at the post game...subtly, but he'll blame them...
You're the coach...you don't wait until a fourteen point lead is not only gone, but you're behind, to bring back ALL of your starters...
No one else would...
No one but Phil...
So...AK/BK...do an old man a favor...
Hold Phil accountable at the press conference...
Someone, please...hold Phil accountable for his poor coaching in the fourth...
Someone...
We need home court...all the way...you just gave Cleveland the edge...and they have the easier schedule...
Inexcusable...
Poor coaching
Posted by: christopher blake | March 17, 2009 at 10:05 PM
btw - isn't it just about mind-blowing that the Lakers could have lost a game where two of their starters were +27 (Fisher) and +21 (Ariza) for the time they were in? Even though Kobe had a horrid game, coaching definitely played a role in this one.
Posted by: Jon | March 17, 2009 at 10:06 PM
the worst play ever. first, they lost to Portland and now the Sixers. SOO stupid!!!!!!!!! they pissed me off now. argggg. man, they're like little kids that are in need of a father to take care of them. You know what i mean, kobe, he's always there to help them but the bench sucks. Sometimes ok, but today is very abnormal.
Posted by: christine ph | March 17, 2009 at 10:07 PM
We deserved to lose this game.
Yes, we should have won with Kobe's shot, but overall, I think we needed to finally lose one of these lackluster effort games.
First, let me say Pau, Trevor, Lamar and Fish played hard and efficient. Kobe was in foul trouble and never really got going, sans his final heroics. But that was really it. No support again from the bench. Don't know the plus minus for the bench, but must have been horrible. This is becoming a real issue. Hopefully this is the wake up call game. You let teams hang around and you will lose games.
I'm very perplexed about what was discussed in the Laker huddle after Kobe hit the go ahead bucket. We had a foul to give. Why wouldn't we foul? I mean it was no brainer. Igadalou was just dribbling the ball, you knew he was gonna pull from 3. Plenty of time to foul before he jacked it. No excuse for that kind of error. None. Better be a good excuse from Phil, like I told them to foul but they didn't. We'll see.
Posted by: mikefloss | March 17, 2009 at 10:07 PM
The thing that actually concerns me is if we don't win it all this year, I think Kobe could go several other places to win some more rings. He doesn't need money and might enjoy a year with LJ or Tim and Tony. Way to go to Mitch, thanks for the help you got us at the trade line! Oh, that's right we are standing pat! I suppose the Knicks wanted Farmar and Luke, and how could we part with them?
Posted by: DJ | March 17, 2009 at 10:07 PM
It does not matter whether the Cavs lose a game or two. We will be lucky to qualify for the finals..I saw Lamar Odoom laughing just before he left Marshal for a wide open 3. That was about 2 minutes to the end of the game. U don't win championships with people like that. We will be the Dallas Mavericks or the Sac Kings of a few years ago.
Posted by: keen observer | March 17, 2009 at 10:07 PM
I left out Odom (+19).
Posted by: Jon | March 17, 2009 at 10:07 PM
Boy, Phil looks truly pissed.
Posted by: troy | March 17, 2009 at 10:08 PM
Bad coaching job on an end game situation.......Every player must know when they have a foul to give....if you foul the guy with 2 secs left .....they miss a desperation shot and the Lakers squeeze out a win......Phil normally hates to foul in end game situations and this time it came back to bite him.........Kobe had a really bad game......however I think this game will be beneficial to the Lake show b/c it will cause them to play with the same sense of desperation the Cavs have been playing with the last 2 weeks.......Kobe will bounce back next game and they will win all of our games on the road trip......The Lakers will still end up with home court throughout the playoffs......but a championship rests on an effective Andrew Bynum........I know its hard to see now Laker nation but this loss will keep the Lakers on guard for rest of the season.....

Jordan Farmar = -20
Fisher = +27
Wow, do we need Farmar?
Posted by: never | March 17, 2009 at 10:10 PM
I feel like I just got punched in the stomach. No worries, though. The Lakers will be fine.
Posted by: T-MELT | March 17, 2009 at 10:10 PM
Amazing +/- tonight. Starting guard DFish: +27 in 33 minutes.
Back-up point guards Farmar and Brown: -28 in 15 minutes.

NO WAY THIS IS A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM... NO WAY... I HAVE NOT SEEN MAGIC AND COMPANY ALWAYS LOSING BIG LEADS. NO KILLER INSTINCT AT ALL. BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR WITHOUT ODOM, FARMAR, SASHA AND WALTON. THAT'S IT FOR THIS YEAR 2009.
Posted by: rafanico | March 17, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Phil questions their killer instinct? I question his coaching ability. Why won't this guy ever call a timeout to stop the other team's run? Why can't he do the most basic of coaching skills? Realize when momentum has swung the other way and call a timeout. Just think how many close games could have been avoided over the years...Shame on you Phil Jackson!
Posted by: Perk | March 17, 2009 at 10:13 PM
Is no lead safe with these guys?
Is a 2 point lead at the end of the game an automatic loss?
Congrats, Lakers! You just won a trip to Cleveland for the Finals!
If you make it to the Finals... Which you won't if you can't maintain a double-digit lead in the 4th against a mediocre team at home...
This has been going on for several games. PJ has to admit there's a problem & fix it NOW.
LEARN HOW TO MAINTAIN A LEAD!
Posted by: Scott | March 17, 2009 at 10:15 PM
If Pau's hot, pass it to him. Even if he is not, he will create a shot for himself or a cutter.
If there's a foul available use it. Especially with 6. something seconds left.
Next game. But this is the stage where the identity should be set.
Don't expect for Bynum to comeback and it will be back to dominance. This team should play thinking there is no cushion available.
Pau needs to ask for the ball.

WATCH PHIL JACKSON TAKE NONE OF THE BLAME
Posted by: Mr. Opposite | March 17, 2009 at 10:17 PM
And in what is probably good news, the Lakers continue to struggle much more against the East than they do against the West. Except for the Cavs and Boston. Does that mean they only worry about beating teams they might face in the playoffs? LOL
Posted by: Jon | March 17, 2009 at 10:20 PM
I can't put this loss on Phil. He still has the upper hand, since coming forth in the media about the team's lack of "killer instinct". They just proved it again.
