Lakers March Madness, Elite Eight!

NOTE: Because of a technical glitch, this was posted earlier today much deeper down the page.  If you've already voted, treat it like a Chicago election, and feel free to vote again.  Sincerely, Management.

Round one is in the books in both the Cedric Ceballos and JR Reid Brackets, and I think it's fair to say the level of competition was nothing short of stunning.  We had upsets, we had buzzer beaters, we had dominant performances by elite... um... arbitrarily created competitors.  We had all that, and coin flips (to break the tie between Adam Morrison's facial hair and Trevor Ariza's tattoos).  The highlights, of course, will be later captured in the Official Lakers March Madness One Shining Moment montage.

But we can't live in the past.  It's time for the Elite Eight!

Cedric Ceballos Bracket:

#1 Adam Morrison's facial hair vs. #5 Phil Jackson's zen
It was a narrow escape for the top seed in the first round.  Can the thin 'stache/chin whisker combo hold up against a strong challenge from the unflappable five seed?  If it does, will the zen limit whatever playing time might be available for AmMo's facial hair and the face attached to it?

#6 Pau Gasol from the elbow vs. #7 Kobe's fadeaway

The Spaniard's feathery face up game KO'd the brawn of DJ Mbenga's martial arts skills, while Kobe's trusty fadeaway buried Lamar Odom's fashion in a result that, if we might for a moment be completely frank with each other, disappointed me greatly.

JR Reid Bracket:

#4 Shannon Brown's hops vs. #8 Andrew Bynum's physical therapist
Yes, we lit a candle at Lakers Blog HQ after Von Wafer's rookie card on eBay bit the dust, but given the interest in Andrew Bynum's health, I get it.  Can AB's knee whisperer take down the shocking athleticism of Shannon Brown without pulling a Tonya Harding?

#2 Derek Fisher's gravitas vs. #3 Sasha Vujacic's headband
We talk a lot about Sasha's hair, and whether or not he'd be best to cut it (I say yes).  Either way, none of the vitriol directed at 18's locks have damaged the reputation of the band that keeps it in place.  Nobody (if I might for a moment humanize an inanimate object) turned in a more dominant performance than Sasha's headband, who ripped Jerry Buss' unnaturally orange hair with 74% of the vote.

This one's gonna be epic.

So there you have it.  16 becomes eight, which will soon be four.  Voting below.

I think Fish has it all locked up.

Tell me something Laker blog fam, if you had to pick only one Laker Jersey from the current squad to rock, who would it be? Who's the only guy on the squad that has really always been P&G through and through? Even when he was gone, he was always a Laker.

How the hell is Shannon Brown's hops beating out Andrew Bynum's physical therapists? HOW?

I mean, I think Shannon Brown is great and all and I really like what I've seen from him so far...

BUT!

Andrew Bynum being hurt kept us from a Championship last year.

This year a healthy Bynum means 16-0 in the playoffs.

VOTE FOR ANDREW BYNUM!!!!!

P.S. How in the world in Adam Morrison's facial hair an number one seed? It makes no sense.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

htj,

Derek Fisher.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

These are really tough.. I don't really want to see any of them out of the tourney.

Jon K. :

Keep on dreaming Andrew Bynum is not returning this year...sorry to to ruin your dreams!

Thats a fact Jack!

I'm not sure which one of the KBros came up with this idea, I'm not really sure it even matters. But it's a very creative, fun and thought-provoking way to spend time prior to the game. I guess I don't need to say it, we all know, PJ's got this locked. Dare I reference fowl or dairy products?

GO LAKERS ! ! ! ! ! !

Guess who just lost the MVP because his wife is a lunatic?

Oh well. We don't play for MVPs anyhow.

It doesn't paint a good picture of Vanessa.

A couple things...

1. It seems that Kobe got Vanessa to apologize... and then as soon as he turned his back, she went nuts again.

2. I don't like the fact that the maid, Jimenez, claims a back injury. Back injuries are a red flag for fraud. They are difficult to disprove.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

Andrew Bynum will be back this year.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

Mike T? Retired?

zen,

Check out Michael Teniente's blog.

He just posted to say that his blog is ending.

Not enough people responding, methinks.

What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

I'm tired of these polls as to whom players want on their team. Seriously. If you have an iota of talent, you would want a guy whose mindset is to pass you the ball, not the guy you have to pass the ball to. Ask any of the HOFrs if they prefer to play with MJ as against Magic?

They should ask instead, who do they want on their team on game 7 of the NBA finals. Love Magic, but MJ never lost a NBA final.

Oh, LBJ never did also. hahahaha

ah..He'll be back.

The Lakers bad defense this year is called "Save our energy for the important games"..

I think Mike T said a while back that if his new MVN journal didn't make it, he would start his own website..Yea...That will help.

Can anyone possibly be surprised by this?

I can only imagine what it would be like to be the child of two such "parents."

Lakers are on Cruise Control,

SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE RIDE!

I thought this was a sport's blog, and laker's blog. So i came here to catch up on what's what's going in the basketball world, but instead i find a bunch of gossiping girl's!!!! get a life people!!!!

the media/fans will twist this kobe stuff and blame kobe but i bet they will never report what the woman's lawyer said

Kobe is the good guy here. This is mostly about Vanessa,’’ said Jimenez’s lawyer, William Vogeler

kobe's only mistake is having that wife.

the maid should have been fired after ruining the blouse.

sorry...

Mrs. Bryant seems like she is INSANE!!!

Remember this from last year?

http://tinyurl.com/5fxtu9

I would not want to cross that woman's path...let alone be married to her. haha

GO LAKERS!!!

I feel bad for Kobe.

I assume he loves her and his children. It must be difficult to have a person who is so emotionally immature as the person you love.

{Sigh}

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

Don't draw in to any conclusion yet. Wait for Vanessa to explain her side. Like we all know, the Bryants are very wealthy..and people that is not wealthy tend to sue very wealthy people. Blame it on the economy. Just saying

The problem is, they're almost certainly not open ended
questions. In other words, the question isn't written as

Which current player would you most prefer as a teammate? ____________

Which current player would you least prefer as a teammate? ____________

Instead, they pick some number of players and make it a
multiple choice:

Which current player would you most prefer as a teammate?

a. LeBron James
b. Kobe Bryant
c. Tim Duncan
d. etc.

So it presents a badly skewed bias. Maybe guys on Portland
really like playing with Brandon Roy, so they would have picked
him. But since he's not a choice on the list, they pick LeBron
or Kobe. In Portland's case, since they absolutely hate the Lakers,
they'd all choose LeBron.

If they did a wide open, open response question, then Kobe
wouldn't have been anywhere in the top 50 of the "who would
you least want to play with poll". Do you really think ANY
player in the NBA would say they'd rather have Marko Jaric
as a teammate rather than Kobe? They'd rather have Sonny
Weems? Eddy Curry? Jerome James? Yeah, right.
