Game Thread - Lakers at Spurs

The Lakers just won without Lamar Odom. It's time to prevent a team from winning without Manu Ginobli. For those curious to see how Drew Gooden fits in with his new team, prepare to remain in suspense. He's also hurt.
The jabber box is below.

Go Lakers!
and Go Suns!!! (tonight only)

OKay question. If the Lakers had an opportunity to grab a small forward, more pointedly trade Luke Walton for Grant Hill would ANY of you feel that move would be beneficial or not??
I, for one, think Grant still has some game left considering he's missed about 3 years due to injury..I am well aware of all the good things Luke does for the team, re, re, re, just wondering what anyone's thoughts on that would be if any.
Holla if you feel me!! LOL

lakersrydeordie, whenever you think of a trade...you always have to think, why would the other team take it?
Remember, it takes two to trade.
The last thing Suns want right now is a long-term contract, unless its a star.

I SWEAR TO GOD FARMER NEEDS TO LEAVE LA. HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PASS A BASKETBALL.
Posted by: omega | March 12, 2009 at 07:19 PM
How many times do I have to see Farmar throw a lazy pass that gets picked off? It's groundhog day to watch him stop at the top of the key and lob it while the defense gets a full running start to steal

Why o why do we let a comfortable lead dwindle? Why does it always become a drama to win a game? I bit all my nails......I thought this was going to be a blowout. Oh well, as long as we win. And looks like we're on our way to completing a successful Texas 2 step (knock on wood).
Btw, I think we've struck gold with the flip flop of Luke and Ariza.
Go Lakers!!!

and kobe on his last 3 point shot was the dagger, killed the heart of the spurs.. love the effort from the spurs w/o Manu, but we're playing our main Center too.. Great game!
hope CAvs lose tonight...

BLöG CRüE
Great win tonight. I love seeing all the purple and gold in Texas. I'd like to see us resign JPowell after this season. What are your thoughts?
Colorado loves the Lakers!

AK/BK,
I'm confused. If the Lakers clinched the Pacific division, and the Suns are in 9th place, doesn't that mean the Lakers clinched a playoff berth? Not that it matters. The Lakers are IN. I just don't see any of that reflected in the ESPN standings. If the Lakers lost every game from here on out and the Suns won every game, they'd be tied with the Suns in the standings, and the Lakers own the tiebreaker.
So, shouldn't the Lakers be in, officially speaking?

THE POWER OF THE LUCKY BARSTOOL COMPELS YOU!!!!
Awesome game. Both teams played well. I was a LITTLE worried there at the end, but we composed ourselves.
No complaints. Just another good victory.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!

My intellect wants the Suns to win, due to the competition for home court advantage.
My emotions want the Cavs to win, because I hate the Suns and I don't hate the Cavs.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!!!

Manifico todos Los Lakers from 1 to 10. Everybody played a great game. Much that Lakers played a non inspirational game at Portland, in San Antonio it's the reverse. They answered the challenge all the way to the end, not just Kobe but he is great difference out there, but every player was accounted for tonight. No complaints whatsoever if fact full of praises to a well coached team. Congratulations to Pacific Division winner.

Dude. Great win! That they're winning on the road, still without a key player is pretty incredible. Kobe has ratcheted it up a notch. His blood is ice, ice baby!
Let's stay healthy and keep playing well!
GO LAKERS!

lakersrydeordie,
I'd do it in a heart beat. Which is exactly why the Suns would never do it. lol

Greetings Lakeshow Fans,
Another nice win over a formidable opponent in San Antonio...102-95. Most of all, nice energy and effort in the first half on a back-to-back deal...CHERRY!
The Lakers excellent play in the first half pretty much sealed the win, although it became a little too dramatic in the second half as they gave up a huge lead, particularly in the 4th quarter...Finley and Parker proved to be difficult covers throughout the game...That's expected given the opponent they were facing with a lot of championship moxie of their own.
One of the keys I felt that contributed to the victory was that the Lakers did not send them to the foul line all that much, which told me that they were willing to D it out on the floor...Great attitude!
Speaking of willing D, strange bringing that up considering that both teams shot over 50% from the field in the game...Again, limiting free throw trips by SA was a factor...
Overall, nice scoring balance from the starters led by Kobe and Pau's 23 points...Odom sure did make up for his absence last night in Houston with 12 and 10 tonight...Nice game by Fish and Ariza who finished with 10 points each...
Wow! When the game was on the line, Kobe "the closer" Bryant came up big once again...That's what GREAT players do!
BTW, let's not forget the decent job that the bencmob actually did tonight as they contributed 24 points as a whole...I really liked their pulse tonight althought it could have been better, especially when the starters came out at different times during the game for a breather...I sure hope that Jordan finds his mojo again...Just tough sledding for him recently.
Overall, thoughts on the Lakers 2-1 roadtrip? Satisfying given the fact that the loss to Portland didn't change the focus a bit for the Lakers, which is to overcome ADVERSITY of any kind...I'm sure a lot of people out there didn't think the Lakers would win at Houston and San Antonio given the debacle in Portland. Well, such as life...
Like I always say, ADVERSITY breeds CHARACTER!
Nice job LA...The job is not yet finished as several home games await you including the big 7 game roady thereafter...The best is yet to come...
Laker pride through ALL and ANY ADVERSITY!

Notice Doug Collins didn't say "Sasha naming himself the Machine" today? Betcha he read AK taking him to task for perpetuating a lie.

Yay to the Laker's 20th Pacific Div title and to securing a playoff berth!
And I got the last word on the live blog. What a great day!

Farmar was a decent PG tonight and his turnovers were caused by Parker who is one premie PG's in the world. Spurs cannot be beaten easily, despite their aging players they're still capable of hurting any visiting team. Farmar has just to slow down and play a smart basktball. Based on Jordan's game tonight, it was steady and lots of character to bring back the lead to double digit after it went down by three points. Spurs were stubborn but Lakers were clutch tonight.
Luke was at its best in manufacturing shots, in blocking the path of Duncan and remarkable passes from the inside to Gasol. He was confident, courageous and made a great defense on that ball interception from Parker to Finley or that Parker tripping the ball, he and Farmar got the steal at the midcourt. WE are critical when he is bad but let's give the full credit on his performance tonight.

1 Banner down (Pacific Division Champs), 2 to go (Western Conference Championship & NBA Championship). It's still a ways to go, but congratz to the Lakers, their staff, and the true fans (you fair-weather Chicken Little types stay home!) for this great achievement.
P.S. To Mr. Do You See What I See: Your blogging privileges have been revoked until you apologize for your lack of faith. Man up & repent, dude.
P.P.S. Tell Butler we said hello.
