REPOST: ODE TO A CELTIC MEMORY

The best thing about Celtics fans is their incredibly short collective memory. Well, their short, selective, collective memory.

Your team has been irrelevant for 18+ years. Paula Pierce did NOTHING without Ray Ray and KG. Wanna talk embarrassing losses? How about your epic stretch earlier in the season--after the Lakers beat you on Christmas Day in front of a national audience--where you couldn't buy a win? And now you're digging in the dirt for Mikki Moore and expecting teams to be rattled? That's AWESOME. It's just another guy for Bynum to dunk on. Shoot, for PAU to dunk on. Hell, for ARIZA to dunk on. And after you sign Marburied, you can pretty much write off your season to a swift-moving cancer.

But let's just say you make it past Cleveland, which I find highly unlikely. You'll play your first two games in Los Angeles, and you'll lose both of them by large margins, and KG will scream at Bigger Baby, and he'll weep, and the big red-headed guy will hold Paula Pierce while he shudders and wishes with all of his wishes for a wheelchair to carry him away... And then you'll give up your beloved (and long-awaited) trophy on your home court, and that will be a thing of beauty, and I will celebrate by quaffing countless beverages until I can no longer remember what Paula even looks like, and justice will be served.

Go Lake Show!

K-Blitz,

Does January 3, 2007 mean anything to you?

Roughly 10 months prior to KG & Ray-Ray ever playing a game in a Celtic uniform?

Smush Parker was in the Lakers` starting line-up back then.

I ask because it was on that date that the Cleveland Cavs LAST won a game in Boston.

They are now 0-8 in their last 8 games in Boston.

Just thought you might like to keep that in mind the next time you get the urge to write, "93-82".

OUTLAW,
IM SO IMPRESSED ... YOU CAN DREAM AND TYPE AT THE SAME TIME. WHY DIDNT THE LAKERS TO ALL THAT DUNKING LAST YR? WHAT WERE THEY WAITING FOR? I REMEMBER THE EXACT OPPOSITE HAPPENING! AND DONT TALK ABOUT EMBARRASSING LOSES ... THERE WILL NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER BE A MORE EMBARRASSING LOSE THAT GAME 6 WHERE ALL THOSE DUNKERS OF YOURS QUIT AND HAD THEIR MANHOOD CHALLENGED AND LAUGHED AT.

SO STOP TALKING ABOUT EMBARRISSING LOSES AND LOOK IN THE MIRROR. THE CELTICS MAY LOSE BUT THEY PLAY HARD AND NEVER QUIT!

SO KEEP WRITTEN YOUR FICTIONAL SHORT STORIES WHILE YOU MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER AND I RATHER RIGHT NONFICTION STORIES!

Game's not over but why are we letting OKC hang around? This is the time our starters should be resting.

Colorado loves the Lakers!

Man, My most wanted trade list:

1. Sasha
2. Luke
3. Farmer

Sasha tops Luke in my No.1 trade list now.

Is it safe to assume we're all hoping that Kobe bought some of that ankle insurance he was selling earlier this year to guard against "broke ankles"?

I actually think the Mikki Moore and Pinkbury signings will help the Celtics. If those guys don't mesh well then Doc just won't use them. I think that Alston was a solid pick-up for Orlando. I also wish that the Lakers could've played the Crabs with West to see how that affected the match-up. He's a big weapon for them.

What's nice is those aren't Lakers problems until June. Right now, those problems belong to whoever in the East wants to make it to June. And then, their problem will be the Lakers.

RED (the blogger not the legend),

The thing that should be concerning is the Cavaliers to you Celtics. Sure you blew out the Nuggets and the Suns. Congrats on those. But look at the Cavs:

Only defeat came to the Lakers at home.

The Cavs were close to beating the Celtics on the 1st game of this year. And that was WITH Kevin Garnett.

The Cavs EMBARRASSED the Celtics in Cleveland and that was WITH Kevin Garnett.

At the moment the Cavs has the better record than the Celtics and with Garnett out they are coming to Bean town and this time they have Big Z back and Delonte as well and are full strength. Moore won't even dare be as good as KG.

They could might as well pull out an upset and beat you guys at Boston and you'll have your hands full in Bean town.

And the Celtics (and Cavs for that matter) didn't win a Home game in the series.

That is why I put that 93-82 thing. You guys keep coming in here while the Cavaliers are a BIGGER threat to you guys. I mean why beat a dead horse when a more local threat comes out?

RLC I admit you mellowed out your Celtic pride to the point of having a debatable chat at times. But I ask why don't you guys go stink up the Cavs blog when they are really high on defeating you guys in the playoffs (And I'm not kidding they are not only confident but they are actually legit when it comes to backing it up). This won't be targeted for you but for the other Celtics fans who don't show class and admit they got beaten yet forget about the other threat in the East:

93-82!!

I got my tacos...

Not worth the victory but oh well free food lol.

47-10 without all the gray area is impressive no matter how you look at it.

Go Lakers!

I agree.

This year's final is 99% likely Lakers vs. Cava.

Why those Celtics fans keep posting on a Lakers fan blog?

They have nothing to do?

Why havent the Lakers worked a trade yet it makes no sense, you can tell Pau is getting tired of playing 48 min, Kup should have done something, anything to shore up the show with a big back up body.

I have a feeling this is going to come back to bite us.

Tonight PJ had to reinsert his starters early in the fourth b/c they had basically lost the lead.

So, here's a question for those of you who believe rest is more important that home court. Does that mean, tonight, you would've rather seen PJ wait longer before bringing back the starting unit even if it meant losing the game? Or are you guys proposing PJ actually give starters some games off? He already gives players practices off but that doesn't factor into "rest" v "home court".

lakers_sth,

To me I don't know what gives when it comes to the bench. Jordan is up and down. He gives great plays but then does a bad play though I learned to expect that from him.

Trevor can make great plays at times, some bad but mostly solid. However while he does play the passing lanes well, creates turnovers and is a decent ball defender he is either too much out of position too much and isn't as athletic/fast as Kobe to recover or goes too much for the passing lanes when his man doesn't have the ball which leads to bad things. Still he's a keeper but he's no Michael Cooper.

Powell gives good jump shooting, better than Ronny I might add but his defense is well more sub-par than Ronny's. He fouls jump shooters often and doesn't block shots that gave Ronny a better chance to play post defense.

Sasha is an enigma. I'm beginning to lose trust in him to really play well. He is averaging about 16 minutes a game but only scoring 5.6ppg? And shooting 37.7% overall from the field not to mention 35.4% from 3 point land (which is worst than Kobe's because Kobe is more create off the dribble while Sasha is more spot up which is easier)?? Not to mention his horrid defense (I always said it was overrated but not THIS bad).

This is really concerning. The 2nd unit's overall defense is really beginning to be terrible when they don't score. It seems their mantra is offense feeds their defense and if they don't score their defense suffers. Not a good one.

KB BLITZ,

I FOR ONE CAME IN HERE AND CONGRATUALATED THE LAKERS AFTER THEIR WIN IN BOSTON. BUT EVERYONE IN HERE ACTS LIKE THE LAKERS ARE THE DEFENDING CHAMPS NOT THE CELTICS! AND THE LAKERS ARE GONNA DUNK ON THIS GUY AND THAT GUY WHEN IN FACT IT WAS PAU GETTING DUNKED ON BY KG! AND TONY ALLEN DOING A 360 DUNK IN GAME 6!

THE REASON CELTIC FANS DONT TALK ABOUT CLEVELAND IS CUZ ITS NOT AS BIG OR OLD OF A RIVALRY. ITS LIKE THE HORNETS ARE NOT AS BIG AS THE CELTICS TO LAKER FANS. THE ONLY THING TO WORRY ABOUT CLEVELAND IS LEBRON ... ITS A VERY BIG WORRY I UNDERSTAND BUT WITH THE ADDITION OF MOORE AND MARBURY IT REALLY HELPS OUR BENCH WHICH IS VERY SMALL AND INCONSISTANT BECAUSE OF AGE!

I GIVE PROPS TO LAKER_ST CUZ HE USUALLY HAS GOOD POINTS! NOT JUST HOW GREAT THE LAKERS ARE AND HOW MANY POINTS KOBE WOULD SCORE IF HE HAD 10 FINGERS!

CELTIC FANS COMING IN HERE IS NO DIFFERENT THAN LAKER FANS GOING INTO CELTIC BLOGS!

Do they have bison in Oklahoma?

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

DARA,

IF YOU THINK ITS 99% LAKERS AND CAVS... THEN CALL YOUR BOOKIE OR GO TO VEGAS AND YOU CAN GET GREAT ODDS ON YOUR PREDICTION.

BUT OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS ... YOU JUST CANT GO UP TO THE WINDOW AND TALK!

lakers sth-

I don't think the Moore signing makes much difference- it certainly doesn't hurt, but doesn't change much for them- but the Marbury thing could be very interesting. If he plays well, it totally changes Boston's bench in a positive way. It moves House away from ball handling responsibilities and lets him be the spot shooter that he is. It also adds more scoring punch.

He's not going to be the star he was in his prime, but if Marbury gets his head on right and meshes relatively quickly he constitutes an upgrade over what they have.

Again, no harm no foul. If it doesn't work, he doesn't play. They can even release him if it's really ugly. But I have a feeling that Starbury will be on his best behavior. Nothing the Lakers could do about this one- Marbury isn't a fit here- but it could be a factor come playoff time.

BK

MOORE GIVE THE CELTICS SIZE OF THE BENCH. POWE AND BABY ARE TOO SMALL AT TO GUARD 7 FOOTERS LIKE PAU OR BYNUM AND ON OFFENSE THEY CANT POST UP TRUE CENTERS.

IT IS WHAT IT IS ... I DOUBT ORLANDO IS GONNA WAIVE HOWARD SO ITS THE BEST AVAILABLE. MOORE IS GONNA CARRY US BUT HE DOESNT HAVE TO. PLUS IT GIVES US INSURANCE IF THEIR IS AN INJURY OR FOUL TROUBLE.

I THINK MARBURY UNDERSTANDS THIS MIGHT BE HIS LAST CHANCE. IF HE CANT ACT RIGHT WITH THE CELTICS NOBODY IS GONNA GIVE HIM A BIG CONTRACT ESPECIALLY WITH THE ECONOMY THE WAY IT IS (ALL HE HAS TO DO IS ASK MANNY). IF HE DOES WELL HE MIGHT GET ONE FROM SOMEBODY.

131-92

Since you like to use caps allow me to as well:

THE REASON YOU SHOULD WORRY MORE ABOUT CLEVELAND BECAUSE THEY REALLY DO HAVE A SHOT AT BEATING THE CELTICS!!

I KNOW YOU CONGRATULATED US JUST AS RLC DID BUT REGARDLESS LEBRON HAS A BETTER TEAMMATE IN MO WILLIAMS THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE LAST YEAR IN THE SERIES! HAD LBJ HAVE MO WILLIAMS THEY COULD HAVE BEATEN THE CELTICS IN THE SERIES!!!

YOU SHOULD BE CONCERNED AND WHILE I UNDERSTAND THE RIVALRY OF THE LAKERS-CELTICS THE TWO GAMES THIS SEASON ARE GONE. IF WE MEET THE FINALS WE CAN DO THIS DANCE AGAIN BUT MY SUGGESTION TO YOU AND ALL OTHER CELTICS FANS IS PAY *MORE* ATTENTION TO LEBRON AND THE CAVS BECAUSE THEY ARE STILL FACING YOU TWO MORE TIMES AND WILL PROBABLY DO SO IN THE PLAYOFFS AS WELL!!

AND LET ME REMIND ME OF THE "OVERRATED" CHANTS AND THE GOOD OLD FASHION OF "BOSTON SUCKS" THE CAVS FANS JUST SMEARED ON YOU GUYS WHEN THEY HANDED IT TO YOU GUYS IN CLEVELAND AND THAT WAS WITH KEVIN GARNETT IN THE LINE UP!

AGAIN BEFORE I GO BACK TO NON CAPS:

98-83!!!

-KB Blitz

The way I see this whole Marbury thing is that he won't get much burn the rest of the season because Celtics are going to be fighting for home court and won't be taking too many chances and going with the guys that have been consistently playing/winning all year.

Given that scenario - he won't come out until the playoffs - and even then how effective will he be? I don't think he has more than 20 playoff games under his belt and he has never won a playoff series (hello Tmac).

And for a guy who hasn't played competitive NBA level ball in over a year - he is well behind the curve. He might have one good game - but my guess he will be a step behind the rest of the playoff bound PG's - much like Ariza coming back last June.

I don't give it too much of a positive for the C's. And then throw in the tight leash he will have in the C's locker room and I'd say he will be completely and emotionally stifled.......i.e expect a blowup at some point (probably at the refs).

GO LAKERS!!!

kb blitz,

Im plenty worried about the Cavs but I think they can be beaten. Lakers beat the Cavs twice and Boston twice but lost to Orlando twice. Does that make Orland better?
No! So last yr was last yr! Atlanta and the Cavs took us to 7 games yet we beat Detroit and the Lakers in 6. Does that mean that Atlanta was better then the Lakers?
Didnt think so!

Denver beat us earlier in the year in Boston with Garnett ... what happened last nite in Denver w/o Garnett? If it was that easy to figure out who is gonna win because of prior results Vegas Sportsbooks would be asking for money like the Banks

They can chant all they want ... when was the last time a chant beat a team ... if that was the case the Lakers would never win in Boston!

Kb

Also keep in mind there is only one ball. If Mo is shooting it that means Lebron isnt. Its like facing the Lakers ... I rather take my chances with someone besides Kobe shooting! If Ariza beats us so be it ... Ill take my chances any day of the week.

And remember Rondo is 10x the player he was last yr. Ray Allen is also better ... he was coming off ankle surgery last yr. Perkins is better ... so is Powe and so is Baby.

The loss of Pose and PJ hurts but with Moore who I think is very good and maybe Marbury we are much deeper than last yr not to mention more experienced.

IN CASE ANYBODY CARES ... ILL BE AT STAPLES TOMORROW!

PsychedLakerGirl,

Right now, the Celtics are without Tony Allen, who was playing
19 minutes a game. If they got Marbury, I could easily see him
stepping in and playing those minutes. And for everything but size,
he's an improvement over Allen.

>>>And for a guy who hasn't played competitive NBA level
>>>ball in over a year - he is well behind the curve. He
>>>might have one good game - but my guess he will be a
>>>step behind the rest of the playoff bound PG's - much
>>>like Ariza coming back last June.

There are differences. Marbury was not injured. In fact, he
reportedly came into camp in great shape. Also, Marbury would
be joining them now, with 27 or so games to get up to speed.
Ariza didn't actually play until the semi-finals, which is way too
late to get back into sync.

I seriously think Marbury would help them, if he signs with
them. Not as much as Posey did, but he would help them
more than Sam Cassell did, for example.

131-92,
I wish I can pinpoint you amongst the crowd in Staples Center so I can clobber you until you puke "purple and gold"
