I will crack that peanut open and feast upon it's innards like a wild hyena!
It's this sort of brain washing at an early age that creates Celtic fans. The Blazers have always been worthy opponents. Worthy in the sense that they provide excellent fodder for our playoff runs.
Back to reality...
What a good game last night. trevor had a big bounce back and was a force on both ends. If memory serves, he only had one big gamble on D that went awry. Big 3s from Trevor, that was a good Machine impersonation he laid on us last night.
Kobe is vaulting himself back into MVP repeater discussions. He is playing at an un-godly level and making his teammates better at the same time. Did anyone see him yelling at Pau for not getting a rebound in the 1st half? That's a leader. Fish has really stepped up, too.
Lamar looked fantastic! He came back ready to ball. that sort of performance will endear him to some GMs at year's end. He and Kobe and Artest are some of the toughest players who play well through pain.
I'll bet Lamar ends up in New York next season if the Lakers don't retain his services. He fits perfectly in D'Antoni's system, he's a bigger, better Boris Diaw.
Josh Powell is also making some noise, although last night was his worst rebounding showing yet. But he can't get every single board out there. Besides, when both teams shoot over 50% how many rebounds are out there?
All in all...let's get two people!
GO LAKERS!!!!!

wow yet another new thread....
how about a thread on the Great Incomprable Old Golden Throat himself, Chick Hearn?
I find myself saying Chickisms throughout the game and even in everyday life situations sometimes...
trying to teach my kids all the cool Chickisms of course is a daunting task--it's really amazing how many standard B-ball terms he coined...
some of my favorites include "call it with braille" and "my Grandmother could guard him and she doesn't go to her left" as well as "lots of referees in the building and only 3 gettin paid" and "it's nervous time in the Great Western Forum" and of course "the mustard's off the hotdog"...
here is a link to a site that has an amazing number of Chickisms:

I don't care what she said - she's stinking cute!
Posted by: longtimelakerlover | January 14, 2009 at 12:26 PM
10 years from now, this little girl would regret what she said on film today. She would say then, I should have said: Oden stinks. This future teen-queen will eventually abandon rainy Oregon and come to LA in a style like other Oregonians before her or the latest one, Kevin Love to the Bruins.
She's cute and telegenic.

No, little girl, I'm sorry but, Kobe does not suck!
Posted by: Rob | January 14, 2009 at 12:38 PM
It is absolutely repulsive to watch a child be abused like that.
Someone needs to call child protective services and quick!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!

As the proud dad of three awesome kids, all I can say is this kid's parents should be shot, tarred, and feathered. (1) You don't teach a little kid to say "sucks;" and (2) the kid faces a lifetime of embarrassment until all copies of this video have been destroyed.
Not only that, I disagree with those who say this kid is cute. She is obviously an abused child, and should be put up for adoption, if anyone would be willing to take her.
Go Kobe! Go Lakers!

well since I've been brainwashing my yungsta to be a "Oakland Raiders" fan since birth I have no gripe about what I saw.
On a side note..its good to see a thread with no mention of Von (what-ever the heck he is)...
We got SA tonight and ill be dress head to toe in my Silver and black (cmon folks..im the only man alive to wear a Raiders jersey to a basketball game...keep up) Raidera attire watchin Kobe get Booty funk nasty on the Spurs.
Go Lakers

Troll-child should be taken away from the so-called "people" who are raising her & given to someone who cares about basketball. Obviously these moronic parents know nothing about what's going on around them. Maybe next they'll teach her to say that Jerry West isn't really The Logo or something equally outlandish. Idiots.
Posted by: justanothermambafan | January 14, 2009 at 01:23 PM
no worries. Jon K will find her and punch her in the throat
Posted by: S.Tan | January 14, 2009 at 01:24 PM
I really can't point any fingers, since I've been teaching my 4-year old about how we hate Boston. I have the double whammy, since I believe the Celtics are the root of all that is soulless and evil, and I went to Cornell, so I also think that Harvard is the vortex of soullessness and evil.
For the record, my daughter recognizes Kobe by sight, cheers when he shoots free throws, only knows the Celtics as "The Green Meanies", and does a mad impression of those parking attendant commercials where they dude frames his face several times and chants "basketball....basketball...basketball..."
Posted by: SBPimp | January 14, 2009 at 01:47 PM
That poor little girl will grow up never knowing the beauty that is the Lakers. She'll be a poor and downtrodden soul her entire basketball watching life.
Why do people say things like "Kobe sucks" when they know it isn't true? They're really lying when they say that, and lying is wrong. How dare they teach that little girl to lie.

Someone proposed trading Bynum and Farmar for Gasol! lol!..

So Andrew Bynum gets 1 friggin rebound
No excuse, How do you only get one rebound at 7 feet 285 in almost 30 minutes of play.
You had to sign him to that big contract. If you just waited you might have seen a little more effort.
Five more years of this lazy guy, JUST GREAT.

Thanks Floyd for the Chick link!
Not only did I teach my daughter a lot of those Chickism's when she was little, my dog at the time used to love the sound of Chick's voice. He was a big, crazy springer spaniel. We used to put a Laker shirt on him during the playoffs and when we'd yell "The World CHAMPION Los Angeles Lakers!!" he would run around the living room barking like crazy. We started thinking he was somehow giving cosmic energy to the team and would make him do it for the whole game.
Ahh the 80's...
OK, back to work.

Spurs injury report: "Ian Mahinmi (sprained right ankle) is out."
Whew. That's good news.
Make TP shoot jumpers. Allow Duncan to shoot the mid-range jumper that's still a work in progress. Kobe should abuse whoever is guarding him. Whoever Bonner is guarding should abuse him. Don't sleep on George Hill or Roger Mason. I'll be interested to see who guards Ginobli. I'm guessing he'll get a steady diet of Ariza and Vlad. Maybe some Kobe if he gets hot. Let's hope he doesn't.
Spurs play a very disciplined brand of ball. Pop has been quick to wave the white flag in lieu of pressing down the stretch if they seem out of the game and need to rest their weary bones.

The child is just a product of her enviornment. Poor girl is being raised by apes and can't help herself.

Next to Danny Ainge...she is my second favorite person from the state of Oregon!
Posted by: RED`S LOVE CHILD | January 14, 2009 at 03:27 PM
As a Laker fan, I wouldn't even go to the troubling of teaching my daughter to say "Portland sucks." "Boston sucks," maybe.
Posted by: greenpaz | January 14, 2009 at 03:39 PM
Watching in horror, Kiwi.
I hope that my child has the intelligence to choose his own favorite players, coaches, team, etc. I mean, yeah, he's going to be indoctrinated into Laker fandom at an early age. I suspect he might even rebel against the Lakers at some point. But he'll come back around. Or he'll be grounded... forever.
Go Lake Show!
Posted by: The Outlaw | January 14, 2009 at 03:40 PM
Zen,
Ironic. We got rid of a bust and got a good Power Forward/Center for a Happy Meal (Barkley's words). And still kept Bynum.
Laker Cynic,
I'm not ready to give up on Bynum totally and I think he'll have a solid career. I'm not ready though to crown him as a future legend. And yea true 1 rebound again shows more that he brought way less energy than even Pau. Pau weighs less than him but is the Laker's leading rebounder and shows how far Pau Gasol is ahead of Bynum not to mention being the better 21 year old overall (defensive wise Bynum has a slight edge).
Red's Love Child,
Told ya Lebron would serve the Celtics. Get ready for a sweep in the playoffs by the Cavaliers.
Quit worrying about us, we'll beat you again in Feb. Go troll around the Cav's blog and if the Celtics emerge victorious then maybe you can be coming back.
Lebron James owns Paul Pierce

Cute kid...bright eyes.
Some other thoughts...
SPUCK THE FURS!! They are still whining about that non-call in Gm. 4 of the WCF. Yeah, the Lakers benefited from that call, but The Show still had home court advantage. No way the FURS were beating the Lakers last year. No way!!
Kobe worked the game last night! He came through when it counted most.
Some will point to to the 13-32 FGA's and try to detract from his performance. But to me, FG% in basketball is a lot like batting average in baseball...not always the best indicator of a player's performance.
Kobe took a beating last night, and not only on the fouls that weren't called. He hurt his foot in the second Q but was able to walk it off. He ran into Yao twice, once banging knees with the Great Wall.
Trevor had a great game. Show doesn't win that one without him. Same with Lamar. Great to have LO back!
In a post game interview on NBA TV, Lamar said that the Gm. 4 loss in last year's Finals is the one that really hurt. Being up by 24 points and then losing is the thing that haunts the team, not the Celtics piling on in Gm. 6.
As the season approaches its midpoint, attrition is taking place all around the league. The Lakers' injury situation is not unique. They have to play through it and continue to win.
GO LAKERS!! Beat the Spurs tonight!
Two players that the Lakers need to watch are Roger Mason and George Hill. We all know about the Spurs' big three, but these 2 guys can hurt you.

It's like the Trading Places bet.... I bet $1 we can take an adorable little girl and turn her into a raving lunatic by brainwashing her with lies about the Lakers.
The second part of the bet is that we have to take some slack-jawed pasty Bostonian lout and turn him into a fully evolved, fun-loving Lakers fan.
Good luck with that second part.

Laker Cynic sayz: "Five more years of this lazy guy, JUST GREAT."
I am even more excited than ever. Drew is getting his explosiveness back. Who cares about a single game against one of the best centers in the league, when he was in foul trouble?
Besides, it's three more years of Bynum, Mr. Cynic.
He's only 21 and is going to end up with another max contract at the end of this contract.

Oh what, she doesn't have love Doctor Dre, Snoop Dogg, and the Lakers?! Well let it be known!
