Thought folks might need a laugh after the loss

This could work, thanks to the good folks over at The Sports Hernia Blog, who praised the mag's "choice" in funny fashion as well.
I wonder if jealousy will prompt Sasha to grow his hair even longer and more luxurious.

That shot looks eerily similar to Pau's look after getting violated by Kendrick Perkins and KG last June.

If I was the rest of the league, I'm already laughing at this this Lakers loss.
Posted by: never | December 02, 2008 at 11:15 PM
LOL. Unfortunately, a good laugh does nothing to repair the damaged and fragile psyche of many Laker fans which has developed since the beatdown in last year's Finals. Fortunately, this blog provides a good venue for fans to vent their frustrations and anger over every Laker loss (and ugly win).
This loss will hopefully temper some of the unrealistic expectations that have been heaped upon our team.

THAT WAS A FREAK LOSS TO THE PACERS.
WE JUST LOST FOCUS AND BECAME OVERCONFIDENT AFTER BUILDING A 15 POINTS LEAD.
HOPEFULLY THE LAKERS WILL BE MORE FOCUS AND NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE 76ERS TOMORROW.

Aside from defense, the Lakers need to work on passing into the post. Their passes into the post have been uncertain and sloppy to say the least. When our big men have good post position, the other guys have to find a way to get the ball in the post instead of swinging it around the perimeter for most of the shot clock and then forcing Kobe to jack up a long 3.
The Lakers look particularly befuddled when our big men are being fronted in the post. They just give up on getting the ball into the post...it's strange. They have to work on passing the ball over the defender. Unless we can effectively get the ball into the post, our frontcourt advantage becomes irrelevant.

Gasol is a soft player.
Posted by: Tom | December 03, 2008 at 12:09 AM
kobey isn't the shooter he used to be. I'd suggest making ariza the "man" for those clutch situations from now on.
lakers should look at how the SUNS deal with EC teams: out-tough them. But that would require some grit from the bigs...
SUNS-lakers again, this month, you say?

To those who keep on whining on our loss..... Cheer up!!!!!!!
Even Pacers beat Boston this year by a large margin!!!!
Posted by: TinidorS | December 03, 2008 at 01:11 AM
The bench is the bench so inconsistancy is expected. That is the reason they are not starters, but anyway. I have a big problem with every starter and the coach, which if fixed would make them unbeatable.
Fisher- Stop jacking up shots early in the shot clock.
Kobe- What part of you can drive it in every single time down the floor do you not understand? Or that the position you are guarding can shoot when they are open for 30 minutes no matter who it is.
Vlade- Don't ever dribble and if you foul don't just touch them like a pansy.
Gasol- Honestly, considering he is European and used to more finese style, all I can say is move your feet better on the pick and rolls. Punish the screeners.
Bynum- You defend before the lay up is already made not after. Also, you are stronger than 99% of the NBA, push them in until they are out of bounds and dunk on their heads.
Phil Jackson- Call a timeout before your team gets scored on a thousand times just like all the other sissy coaches. Also, please look at your substitution patterns over and over again before next game. It was horrible this game.
Posted by: Vahan | December 03, 2008 at 01:36 AM
It's over. I hope you guys don't do a breakdown. I don't know how you are going to breakdown losing a 15 point lead to a team that was 6-10. And we want to say the Lakers are past game 4??

I am just now beginning to recover from the loss. This was a good game to be the first of a back to back as we have a quick chance to redeem ourselves.Less than 24 hours after the loss a new game can occupy our minds. I think this is neart the worst possible game the Lakers could play and to lose to Indiana by one on a freakish tip, well that's not so bad. Although admittedly had it been a better team we would've lost by many more. I have to say it is one of the more gut-wrenching regular season losses I can remember. The only other one that comes to mind is two years ago in New Jersey where we lost in Overtime or right at the end of regulation. Anyway, On to Philadelphia where we can hopefully find our defense and our offense.
I should be outlining a paper, oh the joys of college.

The Lakers have steadily been playing worse and worser since the season began. And too overconfident in their 2nd half offense to bother with first half intensity. Recently, they have been putting in a B-effort offense in first half.
And even worse, they have forgotten the importance of DEFENSE that they learned in the playoffs. They've gone back to the "Defense when we need to" mentality that caused them to get their butt kicked by the Celtics.
They still have the potential to kick EVERYONE's behind in the NBA. But if these bad habits become ingrained in their mentality, they might as well start finding some green clothing to wear in June. Sure, they'll win the conference, but they won't be wearing new rings next year.

Not surprised to see Granger outplay kobey. Danny got his teeth knocked out by Pierce and kept on playing - if that happened to kobey, #24 would first be rushed off the court, then pampered by bodyguards and would then likely file a lawsuit against Pierce.
Granger is tough.

Last night was a lost cause. Today is another day in the life of NBA journeymen from Indiana to Philadelphia. Lakers should learn from their major handicaps which is defense and lead management. The latter is Kobe and Fisher's responsibility, being the captains and experienced leaders. Defense should be the mindset of the team not only with exceptional thievery as being displayed by Ariza but sealing the paint like a Velcro-like fastener. Don't let opponents get rebounds, follow-ups or easy lay ups. I think Pau and LO should improved in that department as bigs who are just being bypassed by athletic opponents. Iguodala will be one your problems tonigth while Brand will be boxing out Drew and flexing muscles with Pau for rebounds. Got to assert yourselves as bigs seven-footers and earn your bread. We want to see AC Green type of effort in rebounds and Kurt Rambis' type of dedication in grabbing rebounds or diving for the balls plus the wisdom of Rick Fox defense in touching the ball without hitting the body. Yes indeed, dealing with young players involve a lot of growing pains on their way to maturity. Farmar and Sasha should not always imitate the style of Ariza, they have to put out their own trademarks. Flopping is just a bad habit, got to stand by your man. Lastly, free throws, there is no defense needed in missing free throws, it's training the arm muscles through constant practice until perfection is achieved.
For Phil Jackson, your Zen teachings may have worked with Jordan and Pippen continued to Shaq and Kobe. Today, all you have is Kobe, there are still inconsistencies in Bynum, Gasol and Odom. I believe you have to improve yourself as a tactician. I am not a coach but a mere observer, you have to evaluate your strategies in coaching. You have great players out there capable of dominating all teams if they can hone on defensive techniques. Looking back at history, I would like to borrow the techniques of German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel in utilizing his Afrika Corps panzer division effectively both in offense and defense. You have to tame your wild desert foxes out there. Your tall men should learn the techniques in fortifying the paint that could give the enemy their longest night in getting rebounds or easy baskets.

Hey Guys,
I'm off to the next game. That was yesterday.
This team reminds me of two Championship Caliber Teams of the past. Lakers 00-01 when we went 15-1 during the playoffs and can turn it up when needed. Or the Lakers of 03-04. They knew they could beat teams, but somehow loss to teams who should have take care of. (Shaq, Malone, Bryant, Payton got beat by Atlanta by one point remember?)
I will post my concerns either on this thread once a new one is created, or on the Pacers game thread.
Otherwise, enjoy this classic that should carry the rest of the day for you.
One time for your mind: George Benson and Santana

Ah... let the naysayers come out of hiding. Whatever. The Lakers are going to lose some games, people. That's just the nature of sports. Any team can win on any given night. The Pacers turned that game into a track meet, and I don't think the Lakers were ready for that. No worries. It's a disappointing loss... but, for me, every loss is disappointing.
Mamba, glad to hear you're driving that bus to where it belongs. Thanks for taking one for the team.
Meanwhile, our Pacific Division "rivals" have lost to the Heat, the Nets, and the Bulls. All I can do is smile at that. 'Cause it's funny, and I love it.

OK. Next morning rewind (after bad sleep, good breakfast). Here are three, specific, constructive criticisms about the ridiculously bad D last night.
1) HOW TO DEFEND THE HIGH SCREEN. Our guards are trying to slide over or fight through the high screen. You can't do it. The top guards in the league are too quick. Our forward/center behind the picker MUST jump out aggressively and drive the guard UP (not sideways), thus slowing him or stopping him and giving him very poor passing angles.
2) HOW TO DEFEND PAINT PENETRATION. The Lakers seem to have taught our guards to overplay their man to one side (away from the middle) and funnel him to the corner side or our big below. The problem comes when our bigs are down too deep and a big hole opens up in the middle. The guard drives hard, trailed by our guard, and either has an easy 8-10 J, a 4-5 finger roll, a layup, or a dish to his uncovered big below. We are getting KILLED with this basic play every friggin game.
First, I don't like the funnel strategy one dang bit. It's passive and it gets the quick guards into a rhythm that just gets worse as the game goes on. SQUARETHEFUGUP!!! Don't give them the angle. Bump them. Hand check them. Don't let them blow by you. But if they do, our big MUST jump up to challenge them out from the basket, and NOT just wait for them right under the basket. Our bigs are just watching these guys stroll in. And if you're going to foul them, HAMMER them! Especially the first time they cruise into the lane. I guarantee they'll remember it and won't be so eager to do it again. That's what all the top Eastern teams do. They have the attitude and the strategy that if you come to the basket, you're going to get totally hammered, foul or no foul.
3) HOW TO DEFEND THE OPEN 3. You can't. At least not all the time and not every shooter. But you sure as heck can defend the ONE guy who by reputation and on that night has the hot hand. There is no excuse why Granger was allowed to fire away at will without anyone within 10 feet of him all night long. The guy torched us, and especially in the 4th quarter. Play an "And 1" D, with one of our long defenders (like Kobe or Arriza) in his face the minute he crosses midcourt. That's exactly what Detroit and Boston do to Kobe to shut him down and frustrate him into taking wildazz shots.
(Phil, you're welcome. You can send me my consulting check to my P.O. Box.)

I don't post much..but I do every so often so im not one of those one that only show after losses and rub it in our faces.
Again..this loss means nothing but only to the ones that sat patiently by there computers during ever game waiting for a loss so the can post the most outrageous comments that can only be seen on this blog.
Its a shame I and a few others have to come here and try to calm down a bunch of grown folks who can't handle defeat number 2 out of 16 games! Even the smartest of the sSky is fallings bunh wud say its how the lost that pisses them off. For Once..and excuse me for the cap but im not yelling.
FOR ONCE CAN WE HAVE ALITTLE CONSISTENCY HERE..ASKED A QUESTION ABOUT A YEAR AGO AFTER I STARTED NOTICING THE SAME ONES SLOBBERING OVER THE TEAM ARE THE BIGGES FLIP FLOPPER HERE THAT IF LA LOSES IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE LOSS TO BE UNDERSTANDABLE?..A HARD FOUGHT LOSS?
1. WHY CAN WE PLAY LIKE CRAP AND WIN AND EVERYONE HERE IS CONTENT BUT WE PLAY LIKE CRAP AND LOSE THE BLOG TURNS TO CRAP?
2. I'VE NOTICES THE SAME POSTER HERE VOMIT THE SAME COMMENT (EX. BLAH BLAH BLAH SOFT!..AND BLAH BLAH BLAH SOFT)...UHMMM WERE WE SOFT WHEN WE WERE WINNING AND IF SO WHY DIDN'T U FEEL COMPELLED TO SAY SO LAST WEEK OR DURING THE WEEK LEADING UP TO THIS GAME?
Im ashamed to be apart of this blog cause none of you can except good or bad losses. All you want is wins. We went through this crud 20+ times last year (whiney bloggin) and if we win out the rest of this roadie im willing to bet about 30 of you would be content as pie if LA displayed 1 game of hard nose defense and won 10 straight in the process. None of yall care about Defense..they aint been playing defense for the past 12 games but the wins were piling..and that's what mattered most right?????
Make up yalls mind..show the same passion for defense after victories as you do after losses...and please stop bringin up Boston..were not playing to beat Boston were playing to beat our next opponent.
Somebody has to be the voice of reason instead of a bunch of mindless drone screaming "I hate Boston..we gotta beat Boston" then lost focus of the lowl PAcer that was standing right before us.
Geezzz
Go Lakers

In depth analysis aside, I'm bettin' the coaching staff and the actual Laker players will figure it out. The blog is best served to get back to what we do best: Comedy.

I can't believe the way BOTH the Lakers and Clippers lost last night. Heartbreak.
I was not in a good mood last night.
Thank God, I had some refreshing adult beverages chilling in my freezer to help negotiate the transition into slumber. Otherwise I probably would have smashed everything in my room and then run through the streets quixotically looking in vain for a Pacers/Mavericks fan to beat up whist screaming like a forlorn child.
Disappointing. Very.
I wish I could have watched the games instead of helplessly watch the score tick away in the wrong direction. I literally several times refreshed my screen thinking, "That CAN'T be right!" It was right.
I mean, come on.
Go Clippers!
GO LAKERS!

Yes - it was an ugly loss.
Yes - we'll learn from it.
Yes - we'll take care of business tonight.
Yes - we're on track to bring O'Brien home in June.
No - we will not implode, explode or otherwise disintegrate into a team of whiny cry-babies, right???
RIGHT????
It's time for vengeance, for payback, for putting on your big boy pants, buckling up and getting 'er done!!!
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is no one talking about the REAL REASON for the loss yesterday??? WE missed TWELVE freaking free throws and shot 73% from the line!!!
I can probably shoot 73%. Probably so can you. What kind of multimillionaire players accept that kind of shooting and what kind of multimillionaire coach allows it? We're top or close to the top in the league in offense and defense, but we're NINETEENTH in free throw percentage. And that's WITHOUT Shaq or Kwame.
We all know its coming down to us and Boston in the end - and free throws could make the difference.
PHIL - whip this bunch of multimillionaires into shape at the line! We need championship caliber foul shooting to wiin a championship!

For Phil Jackson, your Zen teachings may have worked with Jordan and Pippen
continued to Shaq and Kobe. Today, all you have is Kobe, there are still inconsistencies
in Bynum, Gasol and Odom. I believe you have to improve yourself as a tactician.
I am not a coach but a mere observer, you have to evaluate your strategies in coaching.
You have great players out there capable of dominating all teams if they can hone on
defensive techniques. Looking back at history, I would like to borrow the techniques
of German Field Marshall Erwin Rommel in utilizing his Afrika Corps panzer division
effectively both in offense and defense. You have to tame your wild desert foxes out there.
Your tall men should learn the techniques in fortifying the paint that could give the enemy
their longest night in getting rebounds or easy baskets. Posted by: Edwin Gueco | December 03, 2008 at 08:25 AM
NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! A FREAKING MASTERPIECE
Edwin I'm so glad & proud that you are my mentor. KUDOS SIR!!

Damn- one loss and the blog goes to snot. Granted they shouldn't have let a 15 point led become a one point loss but it happens. The lakers have been destroying teams psyche all season. How many games have the lakers had to come back form even larger deficits to pull out a win this season. If anyone thinks this is not a champion calibur team because of one loss (on the road) is truely not a fan to begin with.

I can't believe we already lost TWO GAMES!!! I guess it's time to pack it up for the summer, huh guys??
Yeah, it was a bonehead loss, but if we give up 118, we don't deserve to win. Again, Perimeter D 101, if there are shooters on the floor, don't sag off to help penetration!! But in any case, our winning streak resets today. And for the record, I'll take 7 straight wins and 1 loss ALL SEASON LONG, (as long as we beat the Celtics both games, and win the title!!) Ahhhh, and here come the trolls who haven't had shite to say in weeks!! How about them Suns, 11-7, right on pace for a first round exit in April!!
Allan - Brazil, I'm right there with you!!
What up Charles, you a dumb loss like this will bring me back to the blog!! I hope I don't have to post for a while!!

Far worse than the Detroit loss. Pure stupidity and lack of heart.
Have the Lakers forgot that playing away games that these teams are going to bring their best? It seems they have. Teams aren't just going to roll over and let the Lakers kick them to death. Somebody needs to remind them of that.
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!

The Ambulance Chasers are out in full force.
So what? Does anyone who has followed this team honestly think this loss is going to keep us from returning to the NBA Finals?
Give me a break.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!
