Lakers vs. Kings: Best served cold
Typically, games involving 18-3 and 6-16 squads don't qualify as revenge matches... especially from the perspective of the 18-win team, but after Tuesday's Sacrilege in Sacramento, tonight's rematch (The Gut Check off Chick Hearn? The Staredown at Staples?) against the Kings is just that for the home team. The Lakers, despite their record, have plenty to (im)prove, particularly on the defensive end. For their part, the Kings expect L.A. to come out ticked. As they did in Wednesday's win over Phoenix, L.A. will start Luke Walton at small forward, as Phil Jackson continues to try to squeeze more and better ball movement out of the first unit.
That leaves Vlad Radmanovic on the bench, where he'll go without complaint (but wishes at least that he had a heads up). If Wednesday's rotation is any indication, Rad will likely be sitting in the fourth quarter ... perhaps next to Andrew Bynum, who would himself like to be on the floor in the late moments of the fourth quarter.
If the Lakers can force a few giveaways out of a TO prone Beno Udrih, perhaps the final quarter won't really matter. You know, if they're not to soft to get 'er done.
This is the third time the Lakers have seen Sacramento this season, so they ought to know the program by now. That doesn't mean the coaching staff gets a break from its scouting duties, though.
The unveiling of Kobe's new shoe drew a big crowd.
The Lakers will be changing radio homes next season.
Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus: Keep some perspective on the defensive problems.
IN OTHER NEWS:
- Being traded from the Clippers really can save your life. (Zing!) But seriously, folks, it's a bittersweet moment for Cuttino Mobley. Watching a guy have to step away from the game before his time is disappointing, but it certainly beats the alternative- watching a tragedy unfold on the court.
- If Darius Miles returns to the Clippers, it won't be until after the first of the year.
- Javaris Crittenton is a very happy young man.
- Not everyone is all sunshine and moonpies over the Jason Richardson deal in Phoenix.
- By the way, that was the third time Sean Singletary has been traded in his career... which began in June.
- Dwight Howard has moved ahead of Kobe in the overall All Star Game vote tally.
- Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas aren't playing much in Chicago.
- Mike D'Antoni lays into his former bosses in Phoenix.

Come on Lakers. Put up, or shut up.
Oh yeah, good morning to the morning crue.

So, I wonder if John Salmons is on Hamblen's scouting report for the game tonight. That article does make me wonder who does the best job of really figuring out a gameplan to counteract opposing teams, and who the players really listen to. I know Rambis has been assigned Boston. I wonder who is scouting Cleveland.

I was watching a game at the Staples and I went to get a beer and hot dog at the concession stand. On the way there I went into the tunnel and it was dark as hell. I instantly got a weird feeling and got goosebumps, when all of a sudden I tripped on a wheelchair. In the dark I see this figure start to materialize and it was Pierce with a smile and chanting "Beat La, Beat LA" Of course I start to freak out and quickly tried to go through only to find a door shut at the end of the tunnel. I tried to open it but it wouldn't and I started banging on it. The door suddenly burst open, and it was Kevin Garnett pounding on his chest yelling "what you got to say now!" looking all prime evil. WTF is going on I thought, I need to get out of here. I turned the corner and there was PJ sitting on the bench. Meanwhile, I faintly hear the announcer saying the Celts were on a 20-2 run and has taken the lead. I see Pj again just sitting down, and I started yelling "call a time out PJ, call a damn timeout." All of a sudden I see Odom with a hot dog, which I try to grab from him. He ran away from me and all of a sudden a deafening whistle sounds, and it looks like Odom was called for a backcourt violation. Now I seem to be floating in the air and I can see Kobe shooting brick after brick, missing lay ups, turning the ball over and called for an offensive foul. I am totally freaking out and I want out of there now. In my panic, I hear this sooting voice, saying "Lew keep the faith, Lew keep the faith." It was Chick Hearn. "The Lakers will give you great joys, but it will at times break you're heart." Remember we are the good guys and we always come out on top at the end."
Then he started fading away and I was yelling "Chick, chick how do we fix our defense? Chick, chick...and then SLAP...it was my wife, "Wake up! Wake up, you're dreaming! I sat up in bed and though, WOW that was a trip...only true Laker fans have dreams like this.

Jon K.'s Morning Thoughts That I Have Not Too Much Thought Into:
1. It's a shame about Cuttino Mobley. He really was the Clipper with the most class and maturity on that team.
2. A guilty part of me would like to see Darius Miles in a Clippers uniform again.
3. Start Lamar Odom.
4. I like the idea of Luke starting tonight.
5. Open communication starts from the top. Phil Jackson should have given Rad Vlad a 'heads up' before starting Luke Walton last game. Silence in these matters is a passive-aggressive form of disrespect. Not cool. Especially since Rad Vlad is HIGHLY respect-orientated according to Bio-Chrono.
6. We're playing our starting players too much. We're not playing our deep bench enough.
7. 14 days until Christmas. That is thrilling and intimidating on so many levels. I cannot wait to crush the Celtics on December 25th. December 17-24th is the official Jon K./Mamba24 Week of Fan Orientation. Be forewarned!
8. The Suns are done...
9. ..as are the Mavs.
10. We're going to beat down the Kings tonight. I can hardly wait. Tacos!
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!

Posted by: MAMBA24 | December 12, 2008 at 09:41 AM
Mayor of Kobe Town,
Please don't over-react.
Drama (too often fomented by the media) is a part of the Lakers' identity.
I like to see the glass as half-full. Bynum isn't expressing immaturity. He's expressing confidence in his game and a strong desire to help his team win when it really matters.
Earlier in the seaon some were concerned about Bynum's inner fire, in his desire to win and be aggressive. Well, it seems those concerns were for nought.
Good.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!
Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!

If PJ is playing Luke as a starter, we might play Fatty and Mamba24 as well. I have more faith on the latter that they will not fumble an opportunity to shoot or add more T/O's.
Funny thing is that when you criticize the Laker Crusaders and Defenders, you feel uncomfortable in criticizing a part of yourself b/c we are all Laker fans in this blog with different outlooks on how to win and be more competitive against the Celtics. What is unfortunate that there are fans who are deeply ingrained w/ extreme fandom or addiction that they have a very stringent policy of the three wise monkeys - "See no evil (mizaru monkey); hear no evil (kikazaru monkey) and speak no evil (iwazaru monkey)". I just hate to be reincarnated as a 4th wise monkey (Guecozaru) and cheer for my team's lousy defense.

With Luke starting I would like to see Farmar start also. Farmer is a better shooter than Fish and can actually finish when he drives also I think it would help him calm down and actually run the offense, knowing that he has Kobe n Pau in there with him.
Posted by: Magia32 | December 12, 2008 at 09:58 AM
Edwin
Funny you say that, because that's what I told my wife Wednesday nite. "Even i could look good with the Lakers starters."
Charles
Fish said that after practice yesterday that PJ may try several things. Did a quick looksee and couldn't find the source. I have to go into town for some stuff, but will find you the link later today. Sorry I couldn't find you the link right away.

Factors I'll be looking for tonight...
43% OppFG or less. 14 turnovers or fewer. At least +5 in rebounds. A minimum of 25 shots combined for Pau and Drew.
That's what I'm looking for tonight! 2 of the 4 gets us a win!
Go Lakers!

Mamba24
Thanks for the back coverage my man. Keep the faith.
I really don't think it would be a bad thing if we started the line-up that won us the Western Conference last year. That line up moved the ball well, rebounded well and played defence as well as we're playing it now. It would re-engage Lamar, I think, as he has earned a place in the starting line-up where it seems to me Bynum has sort of just been annointed by management (Jimmy B.).
I know Phil will play exactly who he wants to play and when (see Radmonavich's instant demotion). But his thinking has probably been influenced a bit by the boys upstairs. I'm not sure Lamar will get better than we've seen if he comes off the bench. At first, he seemed to be measuring where he was needed, would get in the game and shore up that area (defence, scoring, rebounding). He hasn't been as effective at that lately.
I have to say, I have been one of those 'We-won-and-the-sky-is-STILL-falling!" fans up until now. I have decided to stay positive and believe that we are moving in the right direction, albeit, slowly at times.
I remembered that, not only are the Lakers human, but other teams are going to throw the kitchen sink at us to dislodge us from our media-proclaimed perch of best team in the universe of all time. If, at the end of the season, we are sitting on a record-breaking win/loss total, than that will be true and expectations for next year (team integrity notwithstanding) should be through the roof.
Adding a 21 year old 7 footer and 23 year old defender/slasher does not a historic team make. I have to temper my expectations and take it game to game. Wins are wins, losses are losses.
Passion never dies.

Fatty,
"Losing Weight by Mambasizing"
So, I assume that Shaq has already received his advance copy of the DVD?
I can see it now. Shaq panting and wheezing in his living room "Losing Weight by Mambasizing"--the floor rumbling--as Shaq manages to angrily mutter out between breaths, "FRICKEN PAU GASOL!"
We'll Shaq is going to have to get back in shape if he's going to be our backup center in two years and everyone knows the best way to shed those extra pounds is Mambasizing. If he wants that fifth ring, he's going to have to play off the bench and he's going to have to Mambasize. It's that simple.
What do we play for? RINGS!!!!!

I say this b/c I've watched a few boston games and what I've noticed is that alot of their offense is created by rondo. When rondo drives he causes the opposing teams defense to scramble alot with his drives inside. Even if he doesn't shoot atleast 2 or 3 celtic players are open b/c defense collapses on him. I also noticed that alot of the time bostons best defense is their offense. They have the opposing teams starters in foul trouble and alot has to do with rondo always driving into the lane.

Mamba 24,
I've made copies of your "Laker Christmas" carol and we'll be singing it tomorrow night at a Christmas bash extraordinaire... unless of course the unthinkable occurs this evening.
It will follow, "Let it fall, Let it fall, Let it fall" our Dow Jones Xmas offering.
