Jon,
>>>>>The "real" season's coming up, guys.
>>>>>We've got Houston, Dallas, New Orleans and Detroit in the next five games.
Actually, we’ve got them in the FOUR games. This little stretch reminds me of the Texas trip we took last year where we took our game to the next level and just dominated. I have a feeling that we are going to win all four games by solid margins in an early statement to the rest of the NBA. The Lakers are going to run away with the Western Conference this year.

Fricken Ron "Just Call Me Bill" d'Artest.
I'm so glad that guy's not a Laker, but some of the things he does absolutely amuses me.
Lakers Today.... Lakers Tomorrow.... Lakers Forever.
GO LAKERS!

qs,
Welcome to the blog and thanks for the kind comments. Great to have feedback from a Lakers fan in Singapore. It was a shame that the Lakers lost Ronny Turiaf but he was all heart and you should be proud to wear his jersey. He will always be respected and treated well when he plays at Staples

I really think the Lakers should take a shot at landing Antonio McDyess even if it's just to keep the Celtics from getting him. McDyess could really help us out with his nice jump shooting, rebounding and defense. He's definitely better than either Mihm or Mbenga and could spell both Bynum and Gasol at the 5 and 4 spot. He could also give us added depth and more versatility along our front line and the different combinations would be lethal. He seems to be a great professional and brings veteran leadership as well. Imagine Dice coming off the bench along with LO with either Bynum or Gasol always in the lineup? That would strike fear in the hearts of every team if they're not already fearful of what we have already. McDyess would be a great fit to play the high post in the triangle because of his ability to knock down jump shots and he still has the ability to finish around the rim. You can also have a lineup of McDyess at Center, LO at PF, Ariza at SF, Farmar at PG and Sasha at SG if we decided to go with a small lineup at times. The options for Phil Jackson would be endless. This could be the move that could really put them over the top. Like the Lakers teams of the past that had title runs, they always added a key role player to the mix that led to a championship(s). McDyess would also bring some toughness to the frontline as well because he's rugged and doesn't back down despite his calm demeanor. Hopefully the Lakers will take a hard look at what he has to offer and what he could bring to this loaded team before passing on him. I would hate to see him contributing to another team, especially the Celtics should we meet them in the finals and we kick ourselves for not taking the gamble. We shall see. Go Lakers!!!

BK,
Do you want to be good or GREAT??
Posted by: ch | November 08, 2008 at 05:08 PM
Funny stuff. Hope he tries to get on here. Would love to see the exchanges.
Especially if he or his alter ego would comment on him wanting to be on Lakers and tell what happened from his perspective.

Ladies and Gents,
The craziest thing happend today. I live in the Rio Grande Valley, which is the southernmost point in Texas. Its a really small area, but somehow we have a D-League Team, and guess who we just drafted!!!!!! SMUSH Freaking PARKER!!!
KL,
Kwame Brown hardly plays.
Brian Cook cant get off the bench
Luke Walton plays 4 minutes a game
Chris Mihm hadnt played in ages
and now Smush Parker our starting point guard at the time is on my Dleague Team!
Anyone who refueses to give Kobe props on taking those guys to the playoffs is INSANE and cannot and will not be reasoned with. Point, Blank, Period!

Good points to ponder except for two.
I think he would add quality and depth to the team but at what cost? We use our open spot to sign someone who may be better fit if injuries occur. Also why add to luxuary taxhen we really don't need to.
Last I don't fear the Celtics repeating as they, if they get that far, are going to meet a determined Laker team.
So Celts with AD is no big thing and can actually hurt their cap space.

Nemaia - any other year, I would have agreed with you. McDyess is a terrific, versatile vet. This season, I'm not so sure. We're so deep, young and athletic right now. You mention that he'd be an upgrade over Mihm or DJ and it's true... but then again, those guys aren't even in the rotation right now. To be honest, I don't think McDyess would get any minutes. He'd wind up as another one of those vet insurance policies who spends his last year(s) on the bench and that would be a shame.

Laker Guru & JustaLakerFan,
I think the 2-year deal for Sun was partly an acknowledgement that he will take some time to become acclimated to NBA style and level of basketball. Like most second round picks that make the team, he is essentially a project who will likely spend this year in the D-League. We are likely to see more picks like Sun in the future, players who may take some time to develop since we really don‘t have any playing time for additional guys now anyway.
I personally still think that Yue will turn out to be a valuable player down the road, especially if the Lakers continue to play the same style of pressing and trapping perimeter defense where his height and length could really be a perfect fit. An athletic tall and long point guard is the one component that the Lakers currently do not have on defense. Yue would fit well into the Lakers new aggressive defense. That may be part of what the Lakers thinking is.
When you look at the quality of the Lakers 12 active players, it is not surprising that Sun has not been able to get any playing time. You could argue that everyone of the Lakers 12 active players is, has been, or will soon be a starter in the NBA. What Sun needs to do is play and that is what the D-League will do for him. For the Lakers, Sun Yue is a perfect 14th player. He fits the profile of tall, long, athletic, and versatile players that the Lakers have been stocking up on. He is an investment for the future that could pay off big.
Of course, all of the above is just my personal opinion and could change like the weather.

LT, and others-
It's also worth noting that the experiment- and it certainly is that- isn't an expensive one. Sun's salary is very low by NBA standards, and I don't believe it gets a whole lot higher next year.
Many teams around the NBA will use a roster spot on a project like Sun, with the hope that it pays dividends down the road. If it doesn't, the Lakers are really no worse off than they would otherwise have been. Very low risk, high reward situation.

I agree with that but I think the deal should have been for 3 years min.
Just my soap box stance.

LakerTom,
Here is a link for Triangle defense but it is not the one I had in mind. Hope this helps for now as I will keep looking for the link I was talking about.

Smush Parker is nothing but a guard that was lucky that Aaron Mckie was injured that he got a start and now he is on a D-League Team.
Some people don't appreciate to score 11ppg for two seasons and to have a spot with Kobe Bryant in the back court.
