The Lakers aren't shiftless layabouts

And because of that, they don't see tonight's game against the 5-9 Sacramento Kings as an opportunity to phone in a destined victory.  For that matter, their upcoming stretch of sub. 500 teams doesn't have them licking their chops, at least when it comes to cakewalk visions.   In part, that comes because this team has long memories (but not in a negative way like a certain Big Grudge Toter), meaning they haven't forgotten about last season's trend of crapping it up against crappy teams.  But also because this Laker squad truly believes a special campaign could be in the making, which means that old adage about every game counting holds true.   When you've got the depth to give any opponent fits and a closer like Kobe Bryant on hand, why not get greedy about racking wins?

Lebron ain't gonna win jack in NY. even if he does get Bosh...

Kobe would have 6 titles to his zilch by then.

Keep chasing Lebron.... keep chasing...

Starbury is in a gots ta go situation.

Jon K.

"You're pretty negative and not all that hopeful."

That's priceless coming from a guy who routinely posts his "HATE" for anything and everything.

As for "Hopeful", I'm on record that I think the Lakers have a shot at 73 wins and are the favorites to win the title. I think that is pretty hopeful.

SORRY I made fun of your clippers. GO CLIPPERS! lol

What about Shaq crapping all Oden after the game?......That guy must have forgotten that what goes around comes around.....He is turning into the dumber version of Barkley....For someone who goes on about being raised by an army father,he is slowly becoming the big dumb dumb dumbest .....The bigger they are the harder they fall......

all about the Benjamins...I don't mean Lakersblog Benjamin lol.

Book it, Lebron to NY.

Not gonna lie, a Lebron/Amare team on the Knicks would be nasty. Make for some pretty good finals against Kobe and Bynum.

But we have to worry about us right now. I see the domination continuing tonight...

Hopefully Lamar didn't party too hard last night.

Lamar = 6th man of the year

GO LAKERS

Re: the whole Starbury situation - I don't have any love for the guy and wouldn't want him on my team. On the other hand, I don't have any love for D'Antoni either and I hardly think this is a one-sided situation. D'Antoni and Dolan have showed clearly that they don't have any interest in Marbury and weren't going to give him even a moment of playing time until they went and gutted their team so they can MAYBE make a play for LeBron TWO YEARS from now. That's their decision and it's their right, but until they can suit up their new players they just have to deal with a short roster. They want to get rid of Steph so badly just do it... don't expect people to believe that they can't work out a settlement when they just pulled the trigger on a couple much bigger deals. In the meanwhile, stop crying to the press about how Marbury won't play. They would have just sat him again as soon as the new guys passed their physicals anyway.

helloooooo laker bloggers im back

im still not finish dreaming folks 81-1 we're gonna beat the hell out of those physical celtics in christmas day

81-1 it's written

LET HELL BE RAISE LAKERS!!!

GO LAKERS!!!

81-1 baby

Lakers beat Celtics in 09 Finals, then beat Cavs in 010 Finals.

then Lebron and Nash and Bosch sign w/New Yrok in 010, and meet the Lakers in the...011 Finals
Will Phil get his 4th 3peat before retiring?

That would be some Hollywood script.
Kobe at the twilight of his career versus Lebron in his prime
The old Nash versus the young Farmar
The young Bynum versus Bosch in his prime
Plus we will still have Gasol in his prime

Hopefully, Kobe finds the way to gracefully give up his throne and perhaps share co-alpha dog status with Bynum by this time.

marbury brought this upon himself. he's a cancer. plain and simple. nobody in their right mind would pick him up. he could have been right up there with the greats if it wasn't for his gigantic ego...which is almost as big as his head. literally. oh well. he's garbage. the knicks are garbage. with or without lebron.

Lakers: 73-9

GO LAKES!!!!

AK/BK-

Kevin Martin is out for tonight, right?

We must remember that despite all their feebleness, the Kings are still our mortal enemies..

They must be beaten down tonight and their spirit broken.

It is the only right thing to do.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

So... who would even be willing to take on Stephon Marbury as a player? The guy's another trainwreck. Too many trainwrecks already in the NBA.

Send him to Europe.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

I know I'm gonna get str8t dissed on here for this comment. But I'm gonna state it anyway.

Jordan, and a future pick, cash for Stephon.. Hell, I don't even know about the numbers, or get into them. But what I do know is, .He is a finisher. He has a consister 3. He can dish the ball, get to the whole, He has been humbled by his recent experiences....He is/would be the difference..

Not to say I don't like Jordan, but Dayum, don't think Stephon wouldn't put us OVER the top...

Just imagine.......................Okay, my fellow bloggers, you can now come with the disses..

Shaq: Dumber Version than Barkley, is that possible?? Then again, we ARE talkin bout Shaq now aren't we..I think you have a valid point..Classless!

sixonezero,

"marbury brought this upon himself. "

Good post. Couldn't agree more. I was happy to finally see a franchise actually "Do something" to one of these primadonas. He wants every cent he is owed. So fine...give him his money and let him ride the pine.

Whatever happened to Sonnybelfast? Probably leaking tears for his crappy Queens. lol

"It's about taking care of business. That is how we push it,'' said Bryant, ..........

"It's a push against the clock. I think it shows the business attitude that we have, as well as depth. I wanted to do a little more service, especially in these sleeper games."
(That could have been Rick Friedman saying that)

Regarding depth: Its that depth that will keep the entire Lakers team hungry for more. When the regulars might get complacent, its the bench people that will want more playing time, more chances for individual development, more time to impress coaches that they deserve even more time in the rotations.

How good is this Lakers team? That the 'Great Tacos Saver', DJ MBenga hasn't been needed at all.

Like lakers_sth said, its too easy to keep a team below 100. Need to lower the standard to 90, and if Faith has her way, 76-80, would be more like it.

Fatty - Looking forward to punishing a Kings team that shoots at 48% and scores over 102/game. And making Sonny Boy Belfast lament his team one more time.

dan,

>>>>>The only one who should be worried is Luke. It's sad because he has a
>>>>>lot of ties with the Lakers, but we must get rid of his contract by the
>>>>>end of the season in order to keep Lamar.

What we really need is another one of those deals where you can release a player and, although you still have to pay his salary, it’s excluded from luxury tax, ala Brian Grant. But the one thing we superstitiously do not talk about is that our depth is the ultimate insurance against injuries. So far, we have been lucky but I like the fact that the 11th and 12th guys on this team are Luke Walton and Chris Mihm and would prefer to keep them as insurance. The way we are winning, we can even afford to give them a few minutes every game to keep them tuned up. We had to let our cheerleader mascot in Rony go – we need to hang onto our human victory cigar. LOL! At least until we win it all.

But man, did Lamar play great against the Nuggets? That one coast-to-coast drive where he turned on the turbo chargers near half court and flew to the basket was incredible. And his cutting without the ball and sealing his defender in the paint for easy passes from Drew showed exactly how the Lakers need to play down low. If Lamar keeps playing like this, there is no way that Jerry Buss will let him go. Our second unit is dynamite with Lamar and Jordan pushing the ball. Once Sasha gets his shot back and Drew his confidence back, we are going to be even better.

I am still hoping that Kobe opts out of his contract and Mitch talks him into signing a 7-year $20M per year deal to help the team keep this core together – which means the nine guys who comprise our current rotation – Kobe, Drew, Pau, Vlade, Derek, Lamar, Trevor, Jordan, and Sasha. Josh, Yue, and Mbenga just make the minimum, which just leaves Luke and Mihm as only guys we are tradable or losable. We will probably lose Chris since he would be getting mucho money and playing time if not starting for many clubs. I mean, ARE WE DEEP or what. LOL!

While the season is young, the conference races are essentially over in my opinion. The only race that really counts now is between the Lakers and Celtics for home court in the Finals. You can already see definite separation from the pack happening in both the West and the East. That is why the Lakers are spanking even the lousy teams. They are not really playing the Kings tonight – they’re really playing the Celtics, and will continue to throughout the 82-game season. Barring injury, the conference races are finished.

Of course, all of the above is solely the product of an over-the-top Lakers fan.

Tom

You cant crap all over people then when its all said and done expect to be anointed the greatest....Shaq will be a headline grabbing circus act even after he retires.......Shaq is like a bad cyclone or hurricane....Every time he leaves a team its a mess.....PROBLEM CHILD

Fearless

No reason to change your name again. “Worried” just doesn’t have the same ring as “Fearless.” ”Fearless Wack Job” was at least consistent. “Fearless and Worried” might qualify as an oxymoron.

I put forth that the reason that we no longer have to worry about this team playing down to their opponents is because the game is not really against the Kings but the Celtics. Realistically, despite the season being young, the conference races are basically over. The only thing left to be decided in the regular season is home court advantage in the Finals. That is the prize the Lakers’ eyes are upon when they take court against the Kings, Raptors, Nuggets, and every other team not named the Boston Celtics. There will be nights when good team get hot, like the Pistons, and beat them straight up but that is not going to happen very often – maybe, like 10% of the time. 90% of the time, the Lakers are going to triumph. And that means a 73-9 best ever record! And home court in the Finals against the Celtics. We are replaying the 70’s when it was LA vs. Boston every year. That is how it is going to be – with the Lakers winning every one.

So don’t be worried. Of course, this is all just my not so humble opinion.

Tom

dave m,

As I understand it, Marbury isn't playing because the rest of the team are tired of his antics and don't want to play with him. D'Antoni is simply respecting the mood and sense of unity of the team.

But, I agree, Marbury is a cancer. I hope he goes to Europe. I'm tired of his face in the NBA.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

Jon - there's been a bunch of press about how D'Antoni wanted Marbury to play the past couple nights because the team was shorthanded after the trades... and according to whose story you buy, Marbury didn't want to. That's what I'm talking about. Anyway, I agree about europe.

Lakersrydeordie - I agree that the guy can play but I wouldn't want him on my team... not now, we've got good balance and depth... the media would go nuts, it would be too much of a distraction and there's nothing to indicate that he could fit into the system.

re: Sonny Belfast - where IS he anyway? I've always totally respected the dude - honest and funny.

lakersrydeordie

Like the movie Airplane, where everyone took there turn slapping the emotional distraught lady, Fatty will take his turn slapping you around to your senses. lol

First slap: The trade is off by $20 million or so.

Second slap: The whole league is waiting for Mr. Dolan to pay Marbury's $20 plus million salary, then release him. So why should Dr. Buss pay the guy?

Third slap: If the Lakers want him and he wants to play for us. We have more available MLE than most NBA teams, if a bidding war started.

And one more Leslie Nielson slap for good measure. Do we really need his 'Bad Attitude'?

Are you sure you didn't select the fish over the chicken for dinner?! Or do you have a drinking problem like Stryker?

Just funnin with you...........Good debate question.

Fatty

I don't take these wins for granted.

Any team can have a hot shooting night, even the Kings with Kevin Martin. If anything, the Lakers' dominance might help teams that normally wouldn't stand a chance playing to win, because they will go for the long shot and basically play all or nothing basketball, so that once in a while, they will hit the "all" portion, even though that's a worse strategy to win in general. Does that make sense?

When the Lakers lose a game when the OTHER team has a bad game, then I will start worrying.

LakerTom,

"While the season is young, the conference races are essentially over in my opinion."

Who won the Southwest division between Houston, NO, and SA?

Dan the Man,

First, I've gotta say, you were exactly right to call me out on the other thread. I haven't been very "whackjob"-ish lately.

I need to suck it up and drink the Cool-Aid.

I need to swallow that red pill and be done with it...

--Fearless

Does anyone have a live stream link for tonight's game? Appreciate it!

p.s. I predict the Lakers to lose!

Tom,

You are correct about needing to release Walton's contract. But, as you stated, the Lakers did that once already. Every team only gets one. So, Kupchak has to come up with some other creative way to deal with that contract.

Maybe we get lucky and some team on the verge looses their "glue"-type guy at just the wrong time and needs to pick up someone quick to maintain their playoff hopes...

Although, the Lakers are the only team in the league that runs an offense that demands intelligence from the players. So, Luke's worth to other teams isn't the same as it is here.

Suck to be him, except about the part about being fit for a new ring in about 6 months or so.

--Fearless

I can't see LBJ going to NY unless the Knicks sign Bosh or Amare during that summer. You can expect the Cavs to go hard after Bosh in order to convince LBJ to stay. The LBJ sweepstakes is a 3 team race: Cleveland, NY, and LA. If LBJ is determined to leave Cleveland, the Cavs will have a huge incentive to try to sign and trade him to a Western conference team. That's where the Lakers can jump in and assemble the league's best 1-2 combo.

The Maloof Bros are losing money on their Kings but not on betting. Well, because their Palms casino in Las Vegas accept NBA betting, Im sure they always bet against the Kings. Once the economy stabilizes and David Stearns approve a team for Las Vegas, who will be the first applicant? The Maloof Bros. & the Kings again to Las Vegas.

Like Carlesimo, by the end of the season Reggie Theus will be fired for luckluster performance of the Kings. Well, what do you expect to generate when they traded all their good players without anything in return? how can you put the blame on the coach?

Former Suns PG Kevin Johnson is now the mayor of Sacramento. He is pressed hard by the Sacramento Kings to produce another sports arena. That is a low priority in a State that is on the red - to build another stadium just to please the owners on charging more fees for club boxes.

The reason why you can't overlook any team is b/c overall records aren't a clear determiner of who can beat who. For that you have to look at match-ups and styles of play. It may turn out that the Lakers are simply a bad match-up for everybody. Hopefully that'll turn out to be true but we won't know for sure until they play everybody.

I believe.

I'm going to take the Red Pill with the Cool-Aid chaser, and I'm wrapping myself up with the Purple Blankets. The way Kobe is playing...he's got me convinced. He isn't allowing complacency. Plus, he's doing something he's never done, he's being a coach.

He's letting guys know how to make plays better -- even when they fortuitously work out any way. He's even been caught drawing up plays in the huddle!

Who would have ever thought that?

Other the other stats are fascinating. All the other facts are interesting. All the depth in the world intriguing.

The deciding factor is what it always is: Kobe Bean Bryant.

Just like What's-His-Name said, in every situation Kobe is my #1 pick. To score on somebody, to stop somebody, to get that steal, to get that rebound, to block that shot.

He forgot to mention some...to ice the game, to motivate, to lead.

I'm with the 73-9 bandwagon. Mamba, get one going. I'm riding shotgun with Tom on this one!

Lakers...Best Record Ever! Or DIE!

--Fearless

GO GO GO LAKERS!

Smash, kill, destroy!

That is all.

I''m already on that 73-9 bandwagon!!
Is there one? :)

my cousin says "this game is a bonus stage." I hope he is right. Looking forward to any laker game all the time.

Go Lakers!

Fatty: Why you got to get all VIOLENT on me and go slappin' me around?????.I dont know trade #'s and get into all that, that is why I stated as such..Besides, my proposal isn't any worse than any other trade scenario I've seen posted on this here blog the 3 years I have been a part of it..

Well, anyway. I knew I was gonna get dissed..This being no different....

lakersrydeordie - I just now noticed your reply, or I would have responded immediately to your comment sooner.

This was your original post

"I know I'm gonna get str8t dissed on here for this comment. But I'm gonna state it anyway.
.......................Okay, my fellow bloggers, you can now come with the disses.."

In the spirit of what you said, I came back with not only the same spirit, but I thought you were looking to have some lively debate AND have some fun.

Please reread my comment again. I used the international sign for 'Don't take this serious' [ lol ] at the beginning.

And finished it with, just funnin, and 'it was a good question.'

Seriously. Did you see the Movie Airplane? Did you see the scene I mentioned? If you didn't, then I'm sorry you took my jest the wrong way.

There is an old German proverb, "Those who are teased, are loved." In NO WAY would I have done something intentionally to denigrate you.

I respect you as a poster here. Sometimes, in writing, we don't always communicate as we want it to be understood. This time may be so. I was laughing as I wrote it, thought you would laugh along with me, and was waiting for your zingers back to me.

Peace and respect to what I consider one of my friends on the blog.

Fatty
