Live from Staples- Lakers vs. Nuggets

It's the Lakers' first look at the new-and-improved, Chauncey-gives-them-direction Nuggets.  Should be fun.

Hi Jackie Johnson! I'm watching the News. LOL!

mike t.

I LOVE ARIZZZZZZZAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another one bites the dust!

I used to hate it when mediocre teams would come to Staples.

It meant that we we're about to get our asses handed to us!
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Now days, we're just messing with teams. I love it!

Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!

The BEST TEAM in the NBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(man that feels good to say)

I am much vindicated by this video over at ESPN. A. Smith interview with Tracy Mcgrady just totally blows me out...

Smith ask Tmac straight, "If there's one player you would choose to play with in the NBA, who would it be? "

Tmac just straight forward, without fleching....said, "Jelly Bean"...

Awesome... I feel proud of being a fan I almost CRIED....

Go Lakers... Go Kobe!!!!!

Its a great day to be a Laker fan!!!

The STH Experience

Just got home from the game. The LA Auto Show just started today and runs through 11/30. Anyone going to a game during that time should be warned that parking will be sparse and expensive. Most of the lots were $25 but the Convention Ctr was still only $12.

Tonight was my first night in my new seat (one row closer and one seat more towards the middle). I lucked out b/c the seats in my row to the left of me have views ruined by the railings for the aisles. The guy with season tix to the right of me is huge. If he can, he likes to put his feet into the row in front of him and really spread out. They moved the cupholders from the floor in front of you to the armrests and it makes it a tight fit.

The Lakers always come out of the locker room to the opening strains of Right Now by VH which quickly gives way to Jockin Jay-Z aka Dough Boy for the lay-up lines. An 11 yr old girl named Haley DiBiasi (not DiBiase like the Million Dollar Man) sang the National Anthem and was pretty nervous. She started "Oh say can WE see..." and was a little off-key but the crowd rallied around her and she ended up doing great.

The first half was text book until the closing couple of minutes of the half. Basically up until they had built up the 27 point lead. The ball movement was great. Drew got the ball a lot in the post and converted those touches into assists by looking over the defense and finding the open man 4 times (5 by the time it was all said and done). Kobe recognized his mismatch on Jones and Carter getting both in foul trouble and really just exerting his will. And Denver just couldn't get anything going. No easy looks and that's a testament to the Lakers D. Nene was the lone bright spot for Denver. He played with aggression and looked explosive.

The 2nd half was ugly. Denver made just one run that cut the lead to 11 but Kobe just took over and got the lead back up to 26 which just cut Denver's heart out. What was really surprising was how Denver just conceded the game down 19 with 7:43 left. It was over way before that (some time in the first quarter) but that when Luke and Mihm came in and the refrigerator door slammed shut. Still, they had plenty of time to make one more push to keep it respectable but they just gave up.

The steals tonight were almost a theme. Jordan, Trevor and Kobe looked like cornerbacks and free safetys out there. That Laker D baits the opposition into some long awkward passes that are easy to pick off but you could see the looks on their faces, reading it all the way. Good stuff.

I've said before that this early part of the season is really just about racking up Ws and keeping the best record in the conference. Lest we take pride in demoralizing a team that beat Boston on their home floor, look at what Boston did to the team that beat the Lakers on their home floor. The best team in the league debate is going to have to be settled when they finally meet on the court.

dice8up,

"Smith ask Tmac straight, "If there's one player you would choose to play with in the NBA, who would it be? "
Tmac just straight forward, without fleching....said, "Jelly Bean"...

I hope LeBron says the same in 2010 :)

If the MVP voting were left up to the players and coaches only, Kobe would win the award every year.

"The steals tonight were almost a theme. Jordan, Trevor and Kobe looked like cornerbacks and free safetys out there."

Love your analysis but "duh" about that part lol.

In zone coverage in football: more likely chance of interceptions. Man coverage works great too but gets more deflected passes than playing to catch the ball. Plus its "safeties" not "safetys" lol. (Hey I played free safety in high school!)

I just love Trevor's role, when he comes off the bench he can get the most dangerous perimeter player along Kobe to work more on the offensive end.

Still the Nuggets defense on Kobe was just horrendous. Single man to man coverage!? Sheesh most time Kobe will make those shots.

Both Radman and Trevor did a fantastic job on Carmelo, wonder why Radman had so much success against Melo defensively....

Not only did we held Carmelo to only 10 points but NO ONE SAVE FOR TREVOR PLAYED MORE THAN 30 MINUTES!

Great job holding off the Nuggets plus giving Kobe, Pau, Drew more rest for the playoffs the better not to mention winning games.

Great game for the Lakers, Sacramento next, even with Kevin Martin possibly out still going to be a game to focus 100% for. One game at a time.

Enjoy Saturday until then!
