Four of four?

November 14, 2008 |  9:36 am

After sweeping a back-to-back in Dallas and New Orleans, the Lakers are 7-0 and putting up numbers gaudier than a Liberace estate sale.  (That's pretty gaudy!)  And while there's still a lot of time for the league to catch up, the purple and gold aren't doing the opposition many favors. And with a favorable schedule through the end of the month, the Lakers have a chance to simultaneously put a little space between themselves and other Western Conference contenders while pushing the needle on the Pistons_lakers_old_school_2 Fan Giddy Meter to unprecedented territory.  Complacency is one threat to LA's dominance, and perhaps that's why Phil Jackson still had practice Thursday afternoon, despite two games in two nights, a late arrival into town, and another game tonight.  At least the starters- most of 'em, at least- got the day off.

Speaking of Friday night's game (yet another smooth as silk Lakers Blog segue), when the Lakers welcome the Pistons to Staples, it'll represent the final installment in what was billed a week ago as a major test for the Lakers.  Four runs against four upper echelon teams.  Thus far, the Lakers have won all three, with varying degrees of ease.  The Pistons, at 6-2, are still a solid defensive squad, and with Allen Iverson on board, hope to put a few more points on the board as well.  Even more fun?  They very well might feature Kwame Brown in the starting lineup, thought that doesn't necessarily guarantee heaps of PT for the former Laker.  He started in Detroit's 107-102 win last night against the Warriors, but only played nine minutes.

Still, you'd figure with LA's length and bulk, he'd be in line for a little more tonight.  In other Pistons news, PG Rodney Stuckey, whose development helped facilitate the Iverson/Chauncey Billups deal, is expected to play after missing Thursday's game.

In other news:

I love the bandwagons. It is great to enhance our daily postings here on the blog.

Best,

I think its going to be really fun to watch Farmar and Stuckey go at it. Both are young, skilled, and quick PGs with a ton of potential. I think both are very similar although Stuckey may be more physical and a little bulkier?

Can't wait to see how the crowd reacts to Kwame and watch the Lakers pull to 8-0.

Lamar = 6th man of the year

GO LAKERS

Good morning, Charles and crue. Happy Friday! Woohoo.

I don;t know whether I'm looking forward most to the game itself, to the roll call or to the first comment of the day from Kwamus Brownus Cupcakus.

YES WE’RE ROLLING
We’re on a roll and so it begins
Our undefeated run iwill never end
Each so called test we have to take
Is becoming a joke for goodness sake
First came Portland, “Oh they’ll be tough”
Yeah tough Allright like a d@mn cream puff
Next came Houston, with Yao and Tmac
They both wilted under the fierce laker attack
Then “Oh no” Dallas is going to want revenge
After one quarter of our “D” they became unhinged
The up and coming NO and CP3 tried to play
But against our team they just could not stay.
And so we meet Detroit, hey they have AI
Just another team that we’ll swat like a fly
Look out 73 Lakers for this I hate to say
34 wiins in a row is not so far away.
Magic Cooper was a Defensive stopper second to none
But I think my guy Ariza would give him a run.
This Laker Dynastiy might end up being the greatest of all
Now don’t get mad at me, that’s just the way the cards fall.
I can just see LakerTom jump with pride and shed a tear
When The Beast Bynum wins Defensive Player of the Year.
Then to celebrate there is only one person to call

KING Kwame will start tonight, he started last night to prepare himself to play against AB, Shaq and Perkins. I tell ya... he was radically different... Iverson must have been saying to himself... how did Kobe... ??? then he shrugged, ignored Kwame and played "Iverson ball".

and... a Kwaminus quote!

"they brought me in here to play defense, run the court and rebound. That's what I am going to try and do."

Am I the only one who was actually hoping to have a link to a Liberace estate sale?

Wes

"I am glad this has happened," Brown said. "I love playing with 'Sheed in the starting lineup. I think (the coaches) noticed last game that with me ducking in (toward the basket), it was getting guys open corner 3-pointers. But they brought me in here to play defense, run the court and rebound. That's what I am going to try and do."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

**++WELCOME BACK KWAME BANDWAGON ++**

(02) MAMBA24 - Bodyguard of the Calves.
(03) JON K. - I baked a cake
(04) EDWIN GUECO - will prepare the deposition & summons too
(05) KEIFO - We are so dead...!!Kwame is going to kill us on the boards,
scoring and free throws
(06) DAVE M. I love that Kwame is getting so much attention
(07) MAGIC MAN - I'd like to donate the bricks he lays tonight to charity to

Oh...

ARIZA = 6TH MAN OF THE YEAR

AK,

Next time I want to be a smart ass, I'll do my homework.

You could of been a good host and deleted my post. Tell the truth...You were smiling when you posted your "point of clarification". :)

cool...game day

Wattup Jesterguru!

So wait...

Just checked the starters on the Lakers web site and it says that Wallace is starting center...

DAMN!!

Great roll call, Mamba.

The Outlaw is present and accounted for. And anticipating a great game tonight.

I hope the Lake Show comes out focused, defensively-minded, and ready to whup on Detroit.

I hope that Farmar and Afflalo get to share some court time. That'd be a great Bruin reunion, although I think Afflalo will get the worst of it.

Go Lake Show!

WHAT ABOUT LAMAR?

OUTLAW IN THE HOUSE!
We on a roll my brother. This game will be a blowout
Phil has a lot of payback to give.

Man, I hate the Pistons.

Hate them.

DEEEE-TROIT BASKET-BALLLLL!!

Every time I hear that I have to restrain myself from throwing my remote through my television.

I hope we eviscerate the Pistons tonight. Sorry, Kwame, it's nothing personal. Well, maybe it's KIND OF personal.

That 2004 Finals loss after that season of continuous drama is a very bad memory for me.

I cry for vengeance!

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

Good morning, Laker fans!
Man, it feels like the 80s of my teenage years.
It's not a question of will the Lakers win.
It's a question of how many points will they win the game.
The Lakers will win the championship this year.
The key: health.
If we are healthy, no team will stop us.
Like a good meal, I'm going to savor each game.
The Lakers will dominate the next ten years.
Can't wait to get off work and watch the game.
Have a great weekend everybody!

Wow..can't wait to see Kwame attempt to injure Andrew Bynum or do something stupid. I hope not and hes the cool guy people say he was just a bad player...anyways its funny how Kwame Brown "frees up perimter shooters with his size taking up space" never seemed to do that for us

Pass to Kwame!

Oh, it slipped through his hands!

Turnover to Trevor Ariza, he's pushing it up the court...

Long pass to Kobe Bryant!

SLAAAAAAAAMMMMM DUNK!

[Let's get this game started.]

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

don't boo the Kwaminus tonight. He's just a guy that was born with these tremendous physical gifts that was probably guided into basketball vs having an overwhelming desire to be a basketball player. Kwaminus seems like a good guy, he just happens to be a basketball player.

Remember, he said:

"they brought me in here to play defense, run the court and rebound. That's what I am going to try and do."

he didn't say he was GOING to do it, he said he'd try...

Helo,

Your Kobe/Nash comparison would normally be a good point, but I think most of us know where some of Kobe's MVP tropheys went. Same place as $100+ million dollars of his endorsements. Down the colorado drain.

If it wasn't for that, Kobe would probably have at least 1 or 2 more, and nash would be lucky to have any.

Good morning Laker fam -

Lots of funny stuff about Kwame posted above. HA! He's got to be feeling the pressure of returning to LA and playing in front of fans that basically turned on him last year. I say he's awesome but only because we got PAU for him! So if that's all he really ever contributed to LA, then I'm perfectly happy welcoming him back with open arms.

Gotta play great D tonight guys. That's what's gonna win this game. Watched Detroit (who I hate too, Jon K) last night for a little bit and it's all about the D with them. Can't wait to see how we match up.

The game's not on LP, so I get to see it in HD! For those of you who know what I'm talking about - the lousy feeds on LP, then you know what a treat seeing our team play in HD is!

Cue that music:

"I LOVE LA!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"WE LOVE IT!"

GO LAKERS! BEAT DETROIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lord Kwaminus--Sultan of Browniality,

How about this?

We cheer when Kwame comes on court and REALLY cheer each time he misses a shot, drops a pass, or blows a layup.

Compromise?

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

All kidding about Le Kwam aside, I don't think Detroit is to be taken lightly. They'll be pumped after last night's win and the Lakers are target number one in the league right now because of their unbeaten streak.

I want our guys to play four serious cold-blooded quarters tonight. It's time to get solid.

Good morning bloggers -- long time no post -- hope everyone is ready for the return of hands of stone. I expect Staples to give K one o fthe biggest ovations ever -he did sacrifice himself for the Lakers to get Pau.

Over or under? Kwa--mayy geting his shots blocked by AB -- 2.

You STH's at the game: When Kwame's in the game, y'all should chant PLEASE DON'T DROP IT! (clap-clap-clap-clap-clap) on every Detroit posession.

And when he does get the ball, chant MAKE A LAY-UP!
(clap-clap-clap-clap-clap) .

Somebody at the Blog once called me a wolf in sheep's clothing. I'm starting to agree with them. :)

dave m,

"All kidding about Le Kwam aside, I don't think Detroit is to be taken lightly."

I agree. Detroit always makes me nervous and I HATE losing to them.

Hopefully Kwame works as a double-agent for us tonight, sabotoging the Pistons in the crucial minutes he plays.

I also worry that there's no bad blood among the Lakers and Kwame. They might not play like they want to embarass him, which could be problematic.

Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson will play like they want to embarass the Lakers. (I hate those guys, by the way.)

Bynum's play is going to be crucial tonight.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

It sure would be cool if Denver and Sacramento won tonight.

Sacramento has been tough at home and Shaq doesn't play nearly as well on the road.

Lakers Today... Lakers Tomorrow... Lakers Forever.

GO LAKERS!

AK/BK,

After watching Allen Iverson against Golden State last night, I got to thinking about some of the most famous -- or infamous -- questionable moves by star players that refs don't call. There is, of course, Iverson's use of his off arm to clear defenders when he drives to the basket. You also have Reggie Miller shuffling his feet into position behind the 3-point line. And Shaq's legendary bunny hop in the pea patch. Just for fun, can anybody think of other illegal moves/tricks consistently used by a particular player that rarely get (or got) called?

Eric M,
I don't think that is where Kobe's MVPs went; they went away when he waved off that screen from Karl Malone in his first all-star game. That image was cemented in a lot of writers' brains.
And even if Colorado is "why", that still proves my point. Those awards are very often popularity contests, NOT who is best/most valuable.
Jackson tends to rub a lot of people the wrong way, because he is somewhat unconventional, plus he's smug, and that affects the way a lot of people vote.

It's payback time!!! We lost to Pistons twice last year, esp tough one away when Prince hit a 3pt in the last minute, if I'm not mistaken. Pau Is going to guard Sheed, should not leave him open on perimeter, this guy falls in love with his newly found 3pt shooting, let him shot contested 3s all night long. I hope they are tired and playing on 2nd leg back to back will give us an extra edge.

Mamba,

>>>>>I can just see LakerTom jump with pride and shed a tear
>>>>>When The Beast Bynum wins Defensive Player of the Year.

Guess what is going to happen to Kwame Brown’s first shot in the game?

Great roll call, Larry. You are the BEST! Keep us rolling to victory.

7-Down – 8 More to go to finish Oct and Nov undefeated at 15-0.

Can we do it, “YES, WE CAN!!!!”

Tom

Boy, it's been a regular open-mic comedy night around here with the news that Kwame will probably start. Unfortunately, I won't be at the game tonight so I won't get to witness first hand how the crowd reacts to him. What I'm really wondering about though is how Bynum will react to him.

Kwame's defense has always been predicated on denying post position since he doesn't really have the length to bother shots. He may have horrible hands but dude is strong. So it'll be a good test to see how effective Bynum will be against him and a little foreshadowing to how he'll stack up to someone like Kendrick Perkins. I also expect to see a lot of freelancing by Bynum on defense - rotating off of Brown to try and block/bother shots. After all, even if Kwame gets the ball right next to the basket, it's still like a 50/50 chance he'll send it careening off the rim or backboard at 50MPH.

What I wonder is if the Lakers will try and funnel the ball to Brown with their defensive schemes. Playing really hard on the ball and denying everyone except Brown. Should be a good game nonetheless. I hope the Lakers have a scouting report on guys like Stuckey and Amir Johnson so that they actually guard them and don't get outhustled by Maxiell on the boards.

Soon to be 8-0

Lakers win tonight by double digits... at least 12

GO LAKE SHOW!!

LIGHTS OUT!!!

Oh... must hit the free throws!!!

AK & BK.

This easy schedule is going to leave us with a real shot at starting the season at 15-0 and going undefeated in Oct and Nov. Tonight’s game and the 1 road game against the Suns are the two biggest challenges. Winning the next 8 should be easier than the first 7. The 15-0 start is a realistic possibility and would be the best start in Lakers history.

Can we do it? Yes, we can!

Tom

Let's be hospitable and good Lakers Fans by being nice to Kwame.

I vote for no booing, just mild clapping when he is introduced.

Detroit looked pretty good at times last night.

They will be motivated, so the blog must counter that with good vibes to match.

I predict we win a close one. Which will make half the blog happy and the the other half upset it wasn't a blow out.

Let's hope SBPimp is all OK up in Santa Barbara.

STOP THIS!! STOP THIS NOW!
THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE A BLOWOUT!

The Kwameth Cometh

Welcome back to the poster boy for "The Big Body" theory.

There should be a T Shirt. Anything to help the salary cap.

Xodus,

You’re on your way, Karl. Outstanding article on Pau Gasol. You should consider moving to the left coast. We all know there are some guys on the LA Times who are “soft” and continue to throw those “weenie” articles out there. About time we had some Lakers fans working for the LA Times besides AK. Also good to see we are on the same wavelength on Phil Jackson as a coach. Looking for more of you work in the future. Thanks.

Tom

Can we do it, “YES, WE CAN!!!!”Posted by: LakerTom | November 14, 2008 at 11:22

Laker Tom stop it you MAVERICK!

Has anyone seen the stats posted by ESPN in Daily Dime this morning?

The Lakers have the highest margin of victory through seven games since 1972 - 3rd highest of all time.

Although... of the other four teams in the top five, only two won the hardware

Hello Mamba, Charles, Jon K., Lakeshow and the rest of the Laker family.

Excited about game day today. Thanks for a great roll call as always Mamba. We need to give Kwame some love tonight at Staples folks. We sacrificed him for Pau Gasol which hasn't been bad for us so it's the least we can do. However. after tip-off he becomes another Piston.

I say we go 8-0 today. It'll be a low scoring game with both teams being defensive minded (I can't even believe I'm saying that). I say no tacos tonight but we get a W instead.

GO LAKERS!!!

Kwamilicious?

...

...crickets...

greenpaz -

How about David Robinson and Patrick Ewing's 15 steps in the lane without getting called for travelling? Or Leandro Barbosa kicking his legs out on jump shots to draw fouls? Or Kevin Garnett moving on every screen? Or Bruce Bowen's sliding the foot under the shooter on his way down?

Good question. I'm going to be thinking about that one all day. I'm sure there are others.

Good Morning Charles...Good Morning Everyone...

Hey Mamaba24,

this must be a sign of the apocalyps (at least) not giving me a prime seat on the Beat Boston Bandwagon....

Need I remind you of my deep and relentless hatred of the Celtics?

I state again (and unequivocally):

NOBODY (AND I DO MEAN NOBODY) HATES THE CELTICS AS MUCH AS ME WITH THE POSSIBLE (AND I DO MEAN POSSIBLE ) EXCEPTION OF JERRY WEST..

AS ALWAYS, AS EVER, YET ANOTHER GREAT DAY (AND SEASON) TO BE A LAKER FAN (AND TO BEAT BOSTON) !!!

GO LAKERS !!!

Lakers win tonight by double digits... at least 12
Posted by: keifo | November 14, 2008 at 11:25 A

KEIFO IN THE HOUSE!! I can roll with at least 12

Helo,

Of course there is politics involved. Isn't it almost "By definition" when you are voting.

But you also can't say when Kareem, Magic and now Kobe wins, that the voters are smart, and when someone elso wins the voters messed it up. You have to take the good with the bad.

I was wondering, are you still sticking with the
"Game management is by far the most overrated part of a coach's job" statement? or would you like to walk it back a little? :)

Eric M

We get that you don't like PJ. It's ok. We all have our opinions. But please move on from this.

Mamba24 and AK showed that the 2 coaches who have the most rings only won one COY. And if you type a wrong statement and got called on, take responsibility. The host's takes as much flak as anybody here and both Brothers still mange to post their accrued criticism.

It's been done and the topic is so KFC not Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. You are now Mike T to Kwame, Zakee to Smush, KL to Kobe and me to Wings to BBQ sauce.

Man up. I'm Chickening up. Cluck cluck cluk.
