It begins... sort of
The Lakers kick off the exhibition season tonight at Honda Center, and as far as meaningless pretend games go, this one ought to be relatively interesting. Fans and scribes alike will get their first look at Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol on the floor as frontcourt mates, and we'll see how the LO Experiment is faring. No doubt Phil Jackson will tinker around with a few different combinations, though, tonight and as the preseason progresses as he works through his many options. I can't be the only one wondering if the LO, Kobe, Ariza, Pau, Bynum fivesome he tested on Saturday has legs. Everyone's going to have to share minutes during the season, anyway. Might as well start now.
In other news...
- Occasionally, there are reminders that for all the perks that go along with life as an NBA player, there are scary moments, too. Luke Walton spoke with the OC Register's Kevin Ding about his experiences over the last year with a female stalker. Creepy stuff.
- Despite some lean economic times, Laker fans are renewing their season tickets at a 99% clip, about 20 above the national average.
- A week into things, defense is still the mantra. Next week? Inbound passing as a mantra!
- The natives are a little worried in San Antonio.
- Modern theatrics have finally made their way to Salt Lake City.

What up Mamba.
I am ready for this year. The only thing we need to do is convince LO to be the 6 man. I mean hey Ginobli did it and he never complained.

Who is Luke's stalker?
With my powers of deduction, I suspect its somebody on this blog.
Who else would be that obsessed with the Lakers and one particular player? Who else lives, breaths, thinks Lakers during the day, and even dreams Lakers at night? And who else is so preoccupied with the Lakers, that they will do all of this to their emotional, social, and financial harm?
I f you want to know who the stalker is, look no further than the LA Times Lakers Blog.
Posted by: Fatty | October 07, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Was it coincidental that while the Angels banished at Edison Field, the Lakers surfaces just across at Honda Center? The boys of summer ended their season with a whimper yet a delightful performance while the Men of Fall will begin theirs with a bang!
Posted by: Edwin Gueco | October 07, 2008 at 10:33 AM
Wow. That article on Luke's stalker was sure creepy. I felt bad for Luke. That kind of stress (combined with injury) certainly had to effect his game negatively.
I know a couple quick solutions to Luke's stalker issue.
1. We send Faith or Lakergurl over to Luke's house to kick that stalker girl's ass.
2. Or we introduce stalker girl to Shaquille O'Neal. I'm sure the two would have a lot in common and it would be a match made in Heaven (if by "Heaven" I mean a dirty, meth ridden trailer park outside of Phoenix.)
GO LAKERS!

Bynum's sporting a goatee! I wonder if Kareem's got him listening to Jazz yet?
Rad Vlad really worked on his defense during the offseason!
Awesome!
Jon is happy!
GO LAKERS!

Does anyone know if the game comes on online???
I know itis on NBTV.
Posted by: Zakee | October 07, 2008 at 10:40 AM
More than anything else, love to see what the youth brings on the table like Sun Yue, Brandon Heath, Dwayne Mitchell, CJ Giles, Josh Powell, Joe Crawford and the new Coby Karl. We lost Ronnie Turiaf but added 7 new names. Currently, there are 19 players in the preseason only 15 will make the roster and 12 players in every game. Out of the 8 names mentioned, who will be the four unlucky ones? Sadly, the real lucky players are not the other four but those who played with meager talents but talented enough to seal long contracts. It is also a preseason to prove to Laker fans that they really belong to the team and proud donning purple and gold.

We'll see Vlad... We'll see!

When I was in high school, my girlfriend had one of her friends "stalk" me for a month which culminated in my stalker showing up at my birthday party that my girlfriend was hosting and revealing it was all a joke. Now THAT was creepy.
Can't wait to see the game tonight. It'll be on KCAL for LA residents. I'm really excited.
I wonder how accurate that article about STHs was about the hike in ticket prices. I thought the ticket prices went up for the public but not the STHs. Mine didn't go up at all. They're still $28. But if you try and buy them through ticketmaster it's $35.
Posted by: lakers_sth | October 07, 2008 at 12:18 PM
I thought I saw a promo for the game on KCAL9 last week? It better be on TV!!
Posted by: MCC | October 07, 2008 at 12:23 PM
Fatty,
You just might be right--The Luke Stalker is one of the bloggers here who is trying to scare him off so Luke will demand to be traded!!
Posted by: Robyn | October 07, 2008 at 12:31 PM
Attention All Locals
the game is on KCAL 9, starting at 7.
Might have to pre-empt the debate.
Gotta see me some BEAST!

I'm a long time reader of this blog, and until today i gathered the courage to post. My english isn't good enough yet, but my excitement is bigger than my fear to be taken as a converted LGC's or other repented troll with bad spelling and/or grammar ;)
So, my objectives for this season are:
1- Write more posts buttler
2- Be noticed by MAMBA24 and make my first appearance in the roll calls
3- Be in the 70 win bandwagon
4- Celebrate the 08-09 championship!!
GO LAKERS!!!

Hate to break this to us bloggers (Mamba don't forget to add me to roll call please) but apperantly Tex is very critical of Drew:
http://tinyurl.com/3n5tpg
http://tinyurl.com/4udgqc
[Winter said a major factor in the slow start so far has been Bynum not giving maximum effort in practice.
"He's just not exerting himself, maybe," Winter said. "And most of the other guys are. I think he just needs to play a little harder.
Bynum has said himself that practice work hasn't had him completely riveted.
"This is the first year where it's kind of a little bit boring just because we have to run through the same stuff we already know," he said."]
["I think what he’s doing is starting to pace himself,” Winter said of Bynum’s approach."]
and Jon K. won't like this one at all: (no it's not a UCLA sucks thing)
http://tinyurl.com/4pnggh
Elgin not being in control anymore?
Please don't shoot the messenger.
If Tex is right looks like it will be a while for twin towers to come up (I hope that that Drew and Pau work well together). In this case though, depth is added.
But for now like Phil said, let's see how it goes.

Is it going to broadcast on the internet too????????
Posted by: Zakee | October 07, 2008 at 01:58 PM
Lmao at all these laker fans that are so eager for the game tonight. People it's just a preaseason game, it doesn't count.
And yet here I am debating myself on whether I should get league pass now ( and F up my already strained budget ) or wait till after middle of the month ( when my bank account will have a healthy dose of a pay check deposited in it )
Sigh ... well I aint ordering and I'm calling the rest of you names ... desperate, no life, fans ... yeah I'm a hater ... umm anyone know if there's a link online ... just so i can make sure not to visit that link to watch the game ...

This one is going to be enough to make LakerTom cry...
http://tinyurl.com/3n5tpg
Laker coaches are considering having Bynum come off the
bench instead of Lamar.
But can you imagine how badass the bench mob will be with
Famar and Sasha and Bynum and Luke (one he gets healthy).

YOU'RE GOING DOWN FAKERS FANS! I'm back and I've so much to tell you, but so little time.
BK - modern theatrics may have just arrived in SLC, but we've been focusing on more important things around here like a sound economy with an industrial backbone. The more I hear about CA and their economy, the more remorse I have for you folks. I heard something so pathetic that I just about fell out of my chair. I heard that your dip%#@& transportation dept is thinking about posting LED advertisement boards on the highway in lieu of the advisement boards because "it will generate tens of millions of $$$s." HOW PATHETIC!!! Didn't your leaders learn enough from distracted driving from your recent train incident? My solace goes out to all of the friends and families involved in this tragedy. I'm sorry, but this is absurd like the WWFNBA officiating and it won't generate income because there will be too many lawsuits and liars, I mean lawyers, trying to make a lot of $$$$$ along with all of the insurance idiots. Enough said for that topic.
I'm stating now that I will be a watchdog for the officiating in the WWFNBA this year and keeping close watch on the statistics. With the current economic struggles (surprise, surprise huh!) of course they aren't going to bring down the house with another story of corruption. The WWFNBA is a mulit billion industry and we just can't afford to have another one of those go down. I'm sure that shrewd idiot Stern got donw on his knees and cried and begged the FEDS to look past this one.
I don't think that you're going to get the benefit of the calls anymore as you're no longer a good example of the "ideal" state. I feel for all of you hard-working stiffs, as I am one, and I detest the rest of you who make money via, may I call them Wall Street gimmics. I can't wait to blog with all of you this year. I hope you have been doing well the past few months.
Also, Kobe's vernacular is terrible and that goes for most of the men in the WWFNBA. During the Olympics the ladies were a lot better at speaking than the men. They are the true role models. The men souded like a bunch of thug-boys, especially Kobe.
Hasta la vista!

Time to start the march to the Trophy!

Note of caution to all fans,
We just need to remember, this is PRESEASON, Phil never put much into it, if I'm correct NO lost all the preseason games last season. The result now does not matter, this why it's called PRESEASON..
