Because it's apparently the hip thing to do

Let's talk a little Lamar Odom, shall we?

48 hours or so have passed since LO officially signed off, if need be, on being a Queens-bred version of Manu Ginobli or Leandro Barbosa (which may open the door for a preseason-successful Vlad Radmanovic to retain his starting gig, although that's hardly set in wet cement, much less stone).  Well, his mood on the matter has apparently grown rosier as the days have grown long, because now Odom is talking about ending a career in Purple and Gold.  Hearing a player say "I want to be an "Team X" for life" is nothing new, but LO certainly raised ears when he said a hometown discount wasn't out of the question.  An NBA player even entertaining that notion is often more rare than a Dodo Bird walking down the street with a T-Rex.  Of course, life's trials and tribulations- of which LO has unfortunately experienced more than his share- often provide perspective.  Sometimes, it's just nice being happy, and if being in L.A. makes Odom happy, it might be worth forgoing a few bucks to make it happen.

Lam-Od's ability is never in question, just his head. He's got a way of wilting under the glare of expectations which hasn't helped him when he's earning 14 mil.

The idea of bringing him off the bench sounds great, but will only improve the lakers if the starting 5 can achieve the same level of play exhibited by the starters last season. Bynum looks muscular but has been plodding. It's too early of course to say whether the starting 5 is better with bynum yet.

In any event, this will be a recurring theme throughout the year, as will Lam-Od's annual trade thing.

btw, Nash is still the best all-time and active PG, altho chris paul, if he continues to study his Nash DVD, is right up there.

More LO?

dan the man,

I'm not saying that Fish is a bad passer, he's just not great. Obviously we have a great passing team so this isn't as bad as other teams but I'd rate Kobe, Pau, LO and Luke all ahead of Fish when it comes to passing. And I'd probably put Farmar ahead as well, but not by a wide-margin. Like I said, obviously we're fortunate to have a team with so many skilled passers, but Fish is an average passer.

Nash's time has passed. He had his run from 2003-07 but this is Chris Paul's point guard league now and I am going on record now in saying that as long as he stays healthy Chris Paul will go down as the greatest small guard ever, better than Stockton, Isiah, Cousy, or Tiny Archibald. He will finish as the third greatest pg ever behind Magic and the Big O. You can quote me on that!

Devin Harris gets schooled on the playground by a street baller.

Lol, an ex-Sun dissing a current Sun.

Whats up all!

That was a nice article on Lamar. Say what you will, I'm glad Lamar Odom is a Laker and I hope it stays that way.

And I really hope after everything he's gone through that God will clear his path to a Championship here in Los Angeles.

Lamar Odom = Laker for Life

GO LAKERS!

LO, LO, and more LO...

He will be a Laker for life, plain and simple

Lamar = Laker for Life

GO LAKERS

omg sasha has an avulsion fracture in his ankle, gone for 2 weeks. THE MACHINE is broken noooooo.

I think the best news to come out of this is that Magic will be working the Finals. I don't know about you guys, but I get tired of hearing all these East Coast die hards getting to gush all over their ast COast thang, what with their grabby defence and pushing off to get open bull crap. Finally, we'll have a pro West, not Lakers but West Coast style of play commentator. Just a lone wolf, howling in the wind.

GO MAGIC!!!!!

Butler,

I think many Lakers fans would agree about Steve Nash being the greatest all time point guard - that is the greatest point guard never to win a title - NBA, College, or Olympic.

Keep up the posting here - it is good for the sheer entertainment factor. Sometimes I actually pull the same kind of shtick - taking the contrary view just for the sake of being contrary even if I don't believe in the bilge I am spewing.

Peace,
Eagleboy

how about Sasha and his vulsion fracture? I'd think this makes it a virtual guarantee that Radmanovic starts at SF now to provide some long distance protection for Bynum and Gasol.

Uh-oh!

Sasha has a minor fracture, in addition to the sprain.

He says he's a fast healer, perhaps Phil IS Professor X and Sasha is Wolverine, he certainly has the locks, he just has to cut 'em funky.

This puts a dampner on the offence.

Who says we keep Coby Karl around, now?

Apparently Sasha is out for 10-14 days.

Sasha has ankle! http://tinyurl.com/4jymx7

Why does it seriously take like HOURS for new posts to come up on this site?

yooooo, blog peeps!

i don't care to surf thru past threads, so pls tell me...who's doing the LAT Lakers Blog fantasy league this year?

i wanna be down!

They just posted this on the Daily News website:

Lakers' Vujacic out 10 to 14 days
By Ramona Shelburne, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 10/14/2008 02:33:03 PM PDT

EL SEGUNDO -- Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic will miss the next 10 to 14 days of training camp after further tests on his sprained left ankle revealed an avulsion fracture, a team spokesman said Tuesday.
The injury, which doctors believe existed before the ankle sprain during the first week of training camp, occurs when a tendon or ligament attaches to a bone and pulls a thin piece off the bone. Vujacic will be shut down for at least 10 days as a precautionary move, though he said Tuesday that he hopes to be back sooner.

``It's nothing to worry about, but if you're not smart about it, you could miss a month so I'm going to take some pressure off it for a little while,'' Vujacic said. ``It's better to sit out a week or two now than later on.''

Vujacic sat out of most of Tuesday's practice, but stayed afterwards --which is not uncommon for him -- shooting free throws and running shots off of his right foot. He walked without a noticeable limp.

``I'm one of those guys who can't stay away. This is killing me not to be playing,'' he said. ``I want to be there for opening night, so I'm going to do whatever I can to be ready.''

Get well soon Sasha!!

Good news:

Radman is finally getting it. Plus he's not pouting if he's not starting like he was when he was with the former Seattle Supersonics. His defense while still not as good as Trevor's has improved and if he continues to go with the defensive mind set he could be the answer at small forward and the 2006 Mid Level Exception wouldn't have gone to waste after all. If he plays like this all season and especially in the playoffs/finals, he will no longer be a space cadet and finally on earth with the rest of the Lakers.

Sun Yue is feeling better and even stronger. Because of no Sasha and I'll get him in a few moments there has to be an adequate backup at SG behind Kobe. The other Coby still seems to be the Sasha Vujacic of 06-07 season(which is better than the Sasha of 05-06).

Lamar is not having any problems with being on the bench should he be the 6th man. I still think though Sasha was the better 6th man last year though if Radman really has improved by leap years it could eat up the minutes that Sasha formerly had.

Bad:

Faith's Future Fiance' Sasha Vujacic has a broken ankle and can only shoot for the next 10 days (ouch). Wish him a speedy recovery, he's Kobe's primary backup, Georgie's Kid still isn't ready in my opinion to be Kobe's primary backup.

And the interesting:
1) The Farmar-Fisher debates
2) The Butler vs The Pig Miller vs The Waiter. Rumble in the Jungle!

Xodus,

"but I'd rate Kobe, Pau, LO and Luke all ahead of Fish when it comes to passing. And I'd probably put Farmar ahead as well,"

Maybe you're right because I do agree with your statement. I'm anxious for the season to start, and quite frankly, a little restless. So I'm jumping into battles just to battle. Never mind me. I still got your back X!!

dan

Xodus,

Derek is NOT an average passer. Let me say again about the assists thing.

Derek's assists are short because he is not the penetrating guard, Farmar is. If anything Jordan only has more assists because of his penetrating skill is better than Derek's. Otherwise they are equal passers (both are really good). Simply Derek can find his man in the inside from the outside while Jordan can create more opportunities because of his penetration. Simply put, they both are equal passers, only Jordan's penetration is what gets him at having a chance at more assists (which is his strength, in my opinion had Derek also had been a penetrator, he would be a good passer as Jordan is as well).

And true I would rate Kobe, Pau, Luke, Lamar to be better passers than either Derek or Jordan. Sun Yue while being impressive in the Olympics still has to show his passing skills in the NBA though from the Olympics and from the Summer League he looked not bad and Andrew still has my open mind to be a good passer.

I think Andrew needs to earn his way back into the starting lineup. I rather see Andrew coming off the bench to start the season. Lamar deserves the starting role. Trevor still needs a lot of work on his offense.

Eagleboy sez:

"Keep up the posting here - it is good for the sheer entertainment factor. Sometimes I actually pull the same kind of shtick - taking the contrary view just for the sake of being contrary even if I don't believe in the bilge I am spewing."

Glad my time in showbiz isn't wasted - thank you.

But I wonder what "contrary view" you're referring to? I don't hear too many laker fans clamoring to give Lam-Od that next big contract.

Nor do I hear laker fans expressing anything but awe and reverence for the greatest NBA PG of all time, Steve Nash.

Laker85 sez:

"Nash's time has passed. He had his run from 2003-07..."

Now you sound like Mark Cuban, who foretold Nash's demise when sending the future 2-time MVP to PHX from DAL.

When Cuban finally realized his error, he went and traded the kitchen sink to get the next best thing to Nash, Ja-Kidd. In the meantime, he's still waiting for Nash to slow down.

If you didn't notice, in the outdoor game vs. Denver, Nash had the sickest and slickest scoring moves of anyone on either team. Funny when you remember he's the short white guy.

Dan the man & Xodus,

but I'd rate Kobe, Pau, LO and Luke all ahead of Fish when it comes to passing. And I'd probably put Farmar ahead as well,"

`` you included Luke??? His game in 2007-08 lives a lot to be desired whether shooting or passing. Just like in accounting you have to balance your assets and liabilities to arrive at net worth therefore, if you count the assists then count also the rate of T/O's. The only time Luke will be ahead of Fisher is his good looks....!

Edwin,

Remember, passing is a skill that Luke brought to the NBA table before his shooting and rebound skills. I remember when he was a rookie, He'd have games where he be scoreless, but he'd have five or six assists in just a couple of minutes. Granted, he was playing with Kobe, Shaq, Payton and Malone, you could see he was a gifted passer.

Plus he's got 7 inches on Luke.

Luke gets my vote just on the floor vision alone!!
