Because if you plan on hitting one of seven designated "premium games" during the 2008-09 season, it'll cost you a few bucks more. As in, $10 to $55 more, depending on where you sit, as some seats appear to be unaffected by the new plan.
At least some theoretically interesting games got the bump. It's one thing to make a contest against Boston (Dec. 25), Cleveland (Jan. 19), San Antonio (Jan. 25), New Orleans (Feb. 20), Phoenix (Feb. 26), Dallas (March 15) or Houston (April 3) a little costlier. It's quite another to say, "The Grizzlies are in town, kids! Better pony up if you want a live look at the frontline scoring juggernaut that is Marc Gasol, Hamed Haddadi and Darko Milicic!"
The official news release from the Lakers is below the jump.
AK
The Los Angeles Lakers will institute a new
variable pricing plan for tickets beginning with the upcoming 2008-09 season, it
was announced today by Senior Vice President of Business Operations Tim
Harris.
In the
new plan, tickets in various sections will have three different prices: a
regular individual game price; a discounted season seat price; and a premium
price. Seven games have been chosen as premium games. They are as follows:
December 25 vs. Boston; January 19 vs. Cleveland; January 25 vs. San Antonio;
February 20 vs. New Orleans; February 26 vs. Phoenix; March 15 vs. Dallas and
April 3 vs. Houston.
“This
has been a growing trend in sports and entertainment ticket pricing in recent
years and allows us to increase revenues to offset our increasing payroll costs.
At the same time, while determining the market value of ticket prices, we were
sensitive to being able to protect our season seat holders by keeping their
price increases to a minimum,” said Harris.
The Lakers also
announced that tickets for individual games for the 2008-09 season will go on
sale on Saturday, October 4.
The tickets will go on sale at 10:00am at all Ticketmaster
locations, online at www.ticketmaster.com and by telephone at
1-800-4NBATIX. There are approximately 1,000 tickets available for each Lakers
home game. Tickets will not be available for purchase at the STAPLES
Center Box Office on this date.
For more
information regarding tickets for individual games please visit the Lakers
website at www.lakers.com.

Butler,
You bore me sir -- I hope you will be around during the season so we can make fun of you and your team -- until then -- I am no longer interested in you and your wacky perspective.
I'm with Jon K -- I'm cutting you off.

BUTLER,
Both Stockton and Mark Jackson played more years than Magic, thus they racked up more assists.
Magic played 906 games, Stockton played 1,504 and Jackson played 1,296.
Their career assists per game were as such: Magic 11.2, Stockton 10.5 and Jackson 8.0.
Nice try, though.
BTW, your boy Nash is averaging 7.9. Respectable, but not even in Magic's stratosphere.

Butler,
Your lack of NBA historical knowledge continues to amaze me. John Stockton took 19 years to get his stat total. It took magic 10 yrs.
Magic
19.5 ppg
11.2 assist per
7.2 rebounds per
Stockton
13.1 ppg
10.5 assists per
2.7 rebounds per
Who couldn't touch who's jock strap?

Puddle,
"Jon K -
I'd agree that Xodus's rankings are a little more accurate. Derek Fisher at 11? Odom at 8? Those are way too high. Here are 20 Point Guards, not in order really, who are better than Derek Fisher (although, not necessarily better fits with the Lakers than Derek)...
1. Chris Paul
2. Deron Williams
3. Steve Nash
4. Chauncey Billups
5. Tony Parker
6. Jose Calderon
7. Baron Davis
8. Jason Kidd
9. Andre Miller
10. Devin Harris
11. Mo Williams
12. Rajon Rondo
13. Jason Terry
14. TJ Ford
15. Kirk Hinrich
16. Raymond Felton
17. JORDAN FREAKING FARMAR
18. Louis Williams
19. Jameer Nelson
20. Earl Watson
Here are 15 SF who are better than Lamar Odom...
1. LeBron James
2. Caron Butler
3. Carmelo Anthony
4. Paul Pierce
5. Ron Artest
6. Josh Howard, bless his poor soul
7. Richard Jefferson
8. Gerald Wallace
9. Corey Maggette
10. Rudy Gay
11. Luol Deng
12. Danny Granger
13. Andre Iguodala
14. Shawn Marion
15. Josh Smith"
I disagree. Here's how'd I'd rank things:

5. Tony Parker
6. Jose Calderon
7. Baron Davis
8. Jason Kidd

HEY GUYS,
I have to tell you the second time around. Don't you ever respond to the idiotic blog of BUTLER. It's all non-sense, senseless, full of misinformation, ridiculous, and very elementary pretentious knowlledge of basketball. The only purpose he blogs here is just to irked us all. Just ignore any topic he wants to put in the table, end of the story. PLEASE!!!!

>>>OK, 15th slot candidate vote - DJ or Jelani McCoy?
Jelani.
If Jelani wasn't as dumb as a box of hammers, he would have
stayed in college longer, gotten a much stronger dose of
the fundamentals, and would have been a lottery pick.
But he's got size and some skill. He and DJ are about the
same on the defensive end, but Jelani has slightly more
game on the offensive end.

JSNV, (Inclusive to all Butler respondents)
What's up compadre?
"I hope this is all an act to rev up us Laker Fans"
Yes.
"You're either talented or demented!!"
Both.
I truly believe it's all fun for Butler, in an attempt to keep things interesting here. Talented enough to get the crowd to rumble, and demented in taking the painful attention.
Jon K's rules are Identify, Wound and Starve. (A nod to you Jon K) I personally subscribe to Identify, Wound and Assess. If a worthy observation in my eyes occurs; then I conversate. In his-her case, he's just trying to change the cadence to the blog.
Besides, as painful as it is to admit IF Butler was a true Suns fan; other Phoenix loyalist would question his frequency on this blog and would taint him-her with Laker lineage.
Peace

Jon and LTLF - the little seeds I planted some hours back did not receive much water, sun or attention. Regardless, it's three saplings to none. We welcome Jelani back to the fold. Polls are now closed.

BUTLER says:
As for titles being the measure of greatness, then Malone, Barkley, Ewing (just inducted into HOF), Wilkins, etc. were never great playas.
Hogwash!
==========================
You are missing your point and diverting the issue...
I did not mention or say anything about winning titles... I specifically mention... that those you mentioned WILT, MJ, BILL... battled for championships.. and brought thier team to championship games... it was a bonus they won the championship... the others you mentioned did the same.. they simply gave thier team a chance to win titles.. they reach the penultimate goal of playing for a title... irregardless of wether or not they actually won the title.
STEVE NASH can never ascend to that pedestal that only few has and was able to do... he doesn't have the resolve , the expediency, the resiliency, and the fortitude to do so... he just wants to run...
The best player you can put him side by side with is BOb Cousy... and you can never put Bob Cousy in the same discussion as Bill, MJ, Wilt... as far as greatness is concerned... irregardless of MVP's won... or titles for that matter.
I too was entertained by the 2004-2007 SUNS.. but greatness in the same league as MJ,WILT,BILL? it's another story.
Come on... See the light of things...
I'll tell you, you will feel a lot better...

Butler, you should have check first before posting this stats...
Magic only played for 12 years... APG = 11.2
Mark Jackson for 16 years... APG = 8.0
John Stockton for 19 years... APG = 10.5
If Magic has played for just 17 years he would have overtaken Stocktons record...
By the way speaking of stats... what is NASH' career APG stats? YEAH, that's right... I thought so... he couldn't even carry Mark Jackson's JOCK... only a 7.9 APG... an average point guard to say the best.
And what about his play off performances? Is it any different? YEAH, that's right.. I thought so.. worse...
Again, I am not saying anything here, other than to point you to the light of things. I am not even a fan of statistics...
Peace always...

So you're going to penalize Stockton for not having a career-ending disease too? Stockton made earvin look like a flash in the pan with his ironman accomplishment!
What about the fact that Stockton (and Nash) are short and not very athletic compared to earvin? I guess we should take that into account?
Ah, yes - I get it now! Let's introduce clauses and conditions if comparisons are not working in our favor!

How about Jelani McCoy as a backup center? I understand he's working out with the Lakers. He may be better than Mbenga as the third stringer.

JustaLakerFan - I have nothing against Mbenga - I actually like the guy. I do think that Jelani's a more experienced and versatile player but it's a moot point anyway... highly unlikely that either he or D.J. would get any real pt.
