Rollin', rollin', rollin'...

Kobe_vs_australia Another good day for Kobe and Team USA in Beijing, as the U.S. rolled into the semifinals of the Olympic hoops tourney, defeated a scrappy, game, but not nearly talented enough Australian squad, 116-85. It was close for about a quarter and a half, as the U,S, led by only one after one before pushing the lead to 12 at the half.  In the third, led by 11 points from Bryant in the first 4:24 of the quarter, the U.S. blew the game open for good.  Overall, Kobe had 25 points to lead all scorers, and the U.S. once again had the range from outside, shooting more than 41% from three.  Andrew Bogut was limited to four points for Australia.

Next up for Team USA is Argentina, who defeated Greece, 80-78, led by 24 points from Manu Ginobili and 23 from Carlos Delfino.  They're good, but the way the Americans are playing, they shouldn't be nearly good enough.

Kobe finally looked like himself this morning. USA needs to hurry up and get their gold so he can fix that pinkie.

Bring them on. Bring them all one. In fact Argentina, Spain and Australia can
combine squads and we'll still win by 30!!!
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
KOBE BRYANT!! KOBE BRYANT!! KOBE BRYANT!!

Anybody ever notice how Butler & LGC's(GWB) spell Shaq? They are the only 2 that I have seen spell it "Shack"......hmmm coincidence??????

Fantastic News. Who's the next country that's going to give USA "problems."

hmmm coincidence??????

Posted by: Semper Fidelis | August 20, 2008 at 11:07 AM

Been saying that all along. And there is another poster linked to Butler...

Semper Fidelis,

It's because they are one in the same.

GO LAKERS!

They should replay all the US Olympic hoops games at 7:30pm. That's when my mind, body & soul is ready to watch Kobe perform.

Is it the NBA season yet? I hate watching Sportscenter and seeing all the topics along the lines of "Brewers / Pirates" or "womens rowing".

To think of how much of my life I've wasted NOT watching Lakers games.

Charles,

Are you refering to Mr. I'm a Suns fan....nah now I'm a Laker fan(a.k.a. Fire32)....lmao...

Is it wrong that I find it very hard to watch anybody else other than the Lakers play??

GREAT GAME!!

No stopping team USA now!!

We will prevail!!

LIGHTS OUT!!

Semper Fidelis,

If it's wrong, then I don't want to be right!

GO LAKERS!

Jon K. ,

I figured they were the same person. It's pathetic to root for a team that got their ass kicked 3 out of 4 times and then have to root for another team just to have the upper hand...lol. Hey Butler,Fire32,LGC's, Charlie, Hank, or whatever your calling yourself today...remember this? "We're gonna bust then up" hahahahha....

Is it wrong that I find it very hard to watch anybody else other than the Lakers play?

No my son it is not wrong. I myself have suffered from this cursed affliction for over 20 years.
Curses! One look at the Lakers and you'll never accept a substitute. I've tried hypnosis, electric shock,
starvation. I've even had my wife bind me in chains. But GodD@mnit as soon as I hear a Laker game is
on not even tempered steel chains can stop me from finding a TV and watching. Be brave my son. I have
it on good authority that they only have 5 or 6 more Dynasties left in them and then surely this cursed
affliction will be gone and we can live like other human beings and watch other teams besides the Lakers.

Your Buddy Larry(Mamba) The Laker Addict

Mamba24,

You're awesome, brother.

GO LAKERS!

Is there any reason why I can't get highlights of this game anywhere?!?!?! Where can i get higlights of this game?!?!?!?! I hate nbc

Mamba24,

"the addiction" ...hilarious. Thanks for the encouraging words Mamba! I envy most of you all here, I live in Texas and they obviously don't show all of the Laker games. I was stationed in 29 Palms CA for about a year and I loved it...I think I saw about 60 games. SOCAL residents are very lucky(sigh). Too bad "in&out" was all hype...lol. I don't mean to start a riot, but seriously.

I found a photo of Let's Go C's and his Boston buddies from our school records:

USA VS. ARGENTINAS
http://youtube.com/?v=vUaVZDY4v2k

There is an overall assessment that US Athletes are selfish and egotistical. I would actually agree with that assessment most of the time, however there is something to be said for the fact that the US is DOMINATING the Olympics when it comes to TEAM competitions. The Chinese may be chalking up individual Gold Medals like bugs in a tide pool, but the US is utterly dominant in anything that requires playing as a team. Basketball, Volleyball, Rowing, Relay Swimming, Water Polo, Baseball, Softball - the athletes may be selfish, but they sure do play well as a group!

Hahahhaaahhaa!!

Starlet Bryant only scores 25 14 shots!!

Mr. "I can get off whenever I want" only make 4 of his 7 3's. What is that, like 40%? Wat a looser!

Yoos foos need to wake up and smell the Truth! The Truth is wat team USA needs to win the gold!

PP = Finals MVP just like Chauncey Billups and Tony Parker - the other two NBA legends!!!

Hahahhahahah!!!

ALWAYS FAITHFUL!! STAND TALL MARINE. You talking to a fellow Marine.
When were you stationed there?

KEIFO!!! IF you say we will prevail , that's good enough for me!!

JON K. I second that sentiment!

hobbitmage,

hehe making me do even more research.

"Show me some numbers with Lamar
against LeBron, AI, Josh Smith, Travis Outlaw, &
Brandon Roy."

I'm going to throw out AI and Brandon Roy. First, AI played point guard whom it wasn't Lamar man's. Maybe a few times with Kobe but even in Philadelphia he played point guard. And Brandon Roy? Please tell me you meant someone else because Brandon Roy in 2005-2006 wasn't even playing in the NBA! (He got drafted in 2006, when Lamar played Power Forward again). I will also throw out the two first Portland games in 2005-2006 because Travis Outlaw didn't play much (he played 3 min in the first game!).

Lebron James vs Lamar:
28.5ppg on 45.8% FG, 6 turnovers averaged, 23 shots averaged, (46 total shots)

Josh Smith vs Lamar:
14.5ppg on 43.9% FG, 1.5 turnovers averaged, 10 shots averaged, (20 total shots)

Travis Outlaw vs Lamar:
11.5ppg on 61.15% FG, 1.0 turnovers averaged, 7.5 shots attempted (15 shots total)

These are 2005-2006 Stats when Lamar played Small Forward for most of the season. On Josh Smith and Lebron he held them below 50% shooting (plus he made Lebron get 6 turnovers) Travis Outlaw's numbers are deceiving since he shot less than either Lebron or Josh Smith. And offensively Lamar not only got a triple double against Travis Outlaw, he also was 1 assist less on getting a triple double against Lebron!

"my response: You're saying that his rebounding goes
down at SF? [ didn't i already say that? ] His scoring
goes down at SF? [ didn't we say that his outside
shooting isn't as good as sasha's? ]"

We both said that. In fact I predicted his rebounds go down anyways because we have Bynum, and Pau and even Kobe who can rebound. Yes we both said his outside shooting is not as good as Sasha's. His scoring was down at Small Forward in 2005-2006 since he was a point forward (he had to set up teammates since Kobe had to be the main scoring option and Phil didn't trust Smush the keys to the offense). And does Lamar have to shoot from 3 point land every time at Small Forward or Shooting Guard? No! Maybe once in a while but Lamar will probably do more jump shooting near the paint and more drives to the basket. Higher percentage shots while Sasha is a perimeter shooter and can be harmful when he is cold. (He shot 11.1% in Game 4 in the Finals!)

"What you should do is find a year when
Lamar played SF for at least 50% of the time AND
post the numbers when he's guarding quick SF's which
is the point I spoke of in the first place."

Already did. Lamar played Small Forward probably until the playoffs in 2005-2006.

"you also wrote: *Because Lamar only played SF for a few games & Lamar is suited best as a small forward and can defend them better than Ariza at the moement."

Don't try to mix up my words please and if you meant it as two different statements please separate them because they way you posted it makes it seem that it was one statement, which neither wasn't.

Here's the original statements:

1) *Because Lamar only played SF for a few games (until Ronny got injured), I will post the 05-06 stats for him as SF to get maybe a better view.

Which I did.... and here are them again...
As SF: 14.3ppg, on 50.0% FG, 11.9 shots attempted, 2.7 turnovers.

2) Lamar is suited best as a small forward and can defend them better than Ariza at the moement.

Please next time don't combine my words to make it seem like what I said was the complete opposite.

And want me to post Ariza again?

Opponents vs Trevor Ariza
As SF: 26.2ppg on 55.6% FG, 18.7 shots attempted, 1.5 turnovers

Ariza got torched by his man when he was out on the court. Paul Pierce torched him as if he was nothing.

Lamar even back in 2005-2006 made his man score less points, on a lower FG%, with less shots attempted, and forced more turnovers. So Lamar is better suited at Small Forward then Ariza even defensively.

Thanks for reading.

Larry(Mamba) The Laker Addict,

I can attest to that kind of addiction, living in the East Coast with so little time to rest, yet have the time to watch Lakers at 10:30 pm and if there is overtime, it goes to up to 2AM, you become Zombies next day. Good if you started watching last year when they chase the Conference Finals, supposing you watched during the year of Scrubs luke, cook, kwame, smush, tierre, jumaine, atkins, bobbit, von wafer....that must be a terrible addiction. lol!

"Anybody ever notice how Butler & LGC's(GWB) spell Shaq? They are the only 2 that I have seen spell it "Shack"......hmmm coincidence??????"

I came up with that - except it's SHACK!

In case you've forgotten, he's the one who let kobee have some rings.

As for the "bust them up" comment by D'ANTONI, we SUNS fans didn't much like that either. It was way too polite. The more accurate assessment woulda been "Phil Jaqueson is 0-2 vs. me, LORD D'ANTONI, and MV3 GNASH in the playoffs and he can kiss my champion posterior!"

In other words, it was true - unlike kobee's aim in these olympic games.

Today kobee had a decent game but I'm still astounded by how bad he looks on offense - if D-Wade and Bron continue like they have been, kobee will have to relinquish his chances at any more mvps and of course any chance of measuring up to more than 50% of STEVE NASH, who has twice as many mvps.

TEAM USA'S success hinges on D'ANTONI, the international champion who young kobee strove to impersonate. I don't mind seeing them play together, it's righteous.

A good game coming up vs. Manu and co. They are due some payback, so c'mon jellybean jr., start playing like an american stud rather than an italian moldy sausage and GIVE THAT BALL UP TO YOUR TEAMMATES!

GO USA

BTW - did you realize the incredible power the SUNS just acquired from Slovenia, a countryman of Sasha "Ray Allen's fav defender" Vujacic, GORAN DRAGIC? The West just tipped to AZ.

BK - Next up for Team USA is Argentina, who defeated Greece 90-78, led by 24 points from Manu Ginobili and 23 from Carlos Delfino. They're good, but the way the Americans are playing, they shouldn't be nearly good enough.
---

Though watch out for Los Floppos.

Ginobili & Scola average an FTA for every 2 x FGAs [1] while Nocioni is no slouch at crunchtime stunts.

OTOH, neither team is stocked on bigs but ARG tweeners are active + slippery. Howard can be a foul magnet depending on pace and attack. Bosh hasn't exactly dominated Nocioni in NBA head2heads. Scola thrives in Eurostyle Olympic play while ARG defends better, much better, than AUS overall.

But can ARG d well enough to stop team USA? No; not without an assist from whistles or refs.

Another reason why USA's deplorable 65%/FT% has yet to prove problematic absent close games or a competitive tournament.

Semper Fidelis,

are you a DeMolay bro??

Xodus,

>>>>>Dude, I know you're an optimist but there's no way you can believe that the Lakers
>>>>>are going to AVERAGE 120. And that's on top of giving up only 100 points per
>>>>>game. That would make these Lakers BY FAR the best team ever.

Yeah, I know but sometimes it just gets so damned boring during the off-season that you have to let go with some outrageous comment to wake everyone up. So I thought that an enhanced 120 points per game controversy might do the job. LOL.

You raised a valid point, though, regarding these Lakers being BY FAR the best team ever. That should shake some frogs out of the trees. LOL. I can see the headline now:

Xodus says that the Lakers are “BY FAR the best team ever. LOL.

Tom

Xodus,

Glad to hear all is going well. Enjoy those first precious days of marriage as well as the joy of being young. Trust me, the older you get, the faster time flies by so make every minute count.

Tom

Will the real Kobe Bryant please stand up? I mean, is it the Kobe Bryant who inspires awe and adulation from Mark Heisler, or is it the Kobe Bryant skewered in today's New York Times:

http://tinyurl.com/5g4k54

Personally, I'm a Kobe fan. Sure, he forces some shots. But some of them are "makes" when for other players, they would be unmakeable.

The NYT paints LeBron James as the leader. I'm sure he is in some ways. But Kobe's DNA is all over Team USA. And what the NYT article misses is that it has been a different player who's been the key difference maker in each game the Redeem Team has played.

And the whole Kobe vs LeBron thing is overplayed, any way. What we've been treated to (at least us early risers) is outstanding basketball with exquisite execution.
Frankly, it's what's made this long off-season endurable, even enjoyable, even if sometimes it causes sleep deprivation.

Oh and while I'm asking questions.....

AK/BK I tried to log onto the chat yesterday but couldn't get in. I was wondering where you guys stood on the Lamar-as-starting-SF vs Lamar-as-backup-big man controversy?

Mamba24,

Good to hear from another Devil Dog, I was in 29 "stumps" most of 07...it was great watching post game reports too. I was in NC for about 2 years and, like Edwin Gueco, had to wait for most games to come on at 10:30 and end until about 1:30a.m ....then get up at 4:30 for PT.....I love the Lakers that much..lol...sometimes I even had to resort to SOPCAST.

BUTLER,

u said something about the suns being champions...ok, here your challenge...name the year yall won!!! hahhahahahha loser.
I don't care to hear u talk about Kobe or Shaq or anybody, just tell me what year yall won the championship! ha

BynumBeliever,

>>>>> Thanks for the laugh, I needed that.

Nothing stirs up the blood more than a little over-optimism. LOL.

Tom

I normally try to ignore LGC's but I can't resist commenting on how he's trying to make a very good performance by Kobe look bad. I can't even say it's sarcasm because he really is trying to diss Kobe.

You've got to get a life, man.

Hey Butler,

Let's go C's! says: SHACK! is old!

No MORE D'Antoni! Got Terry Phorter an unproven coach (1 playoff experience and got embarrased by Deetrrrrrrooooooiiiiiiiitttttttt Pistons). Phorter sucks as a coach!

Amare StoudeWHINER ran D'Antoni out of Phoenix

your starlet GNASH can't even get a rhythm.

StoudeWHINER: "I'm sick and fed up with losing to these guys (The Lakers!)"

StoudeWHINER (on defending Rasheed must bleed Wallace): I cannot defend that shot! (As Rasheed must bleed Wallace was raining jumpers over his whining head)

Trying to play defense with the Suns, Steve Kerr trying? Neither SHACK nor StoudeWHINER, nor the Starlet GNASH can't play defense!

GNASH and StoudeWHINER: Zero rings!

The Suns has set in Phoenix!

Brylle,

No, I'm actually not even sure what that is.

I'm watching "Me, Myself, & Irene"...anybody know what(who) this movie reminds me of???? hahahahaha

I've been wondering lately...how many games would this team win if Kobe retired right now? I mean the following lineup is STILL pretty damn good:

Fisher
Sasha
Odom/Ariza
Pau
Bynum

Anybody care to chip in with their guess on how many wins we would finish with? Thanks in advance.

And 4-7=57.1% shooting from 3 point range.

Rick Friedman,

Thanks for that article:
http://tinyurl.com/5g4k54

It's no secret that New York is trying to win over LeBronze so he'll come save the day in NY.

I also think its true that LeBronze is the better team player than Kobe and is the finer physical specimen.

However, the difference between Kobe and LeBronze is the mentality. Kobe knows he can win, LeBronze thinks he can win.

Kobe at the age of 29, has matured into the best basketball player in the world because of his skills, maturity and mentality. LeBronze tore it up during the games that "didn't count", let's see who plays better now that the pressure's really on.

please correct the final score of Greece-Argentina. It's 80-78, it went down to the final shot.

By PETE THAMEL

Whoever that guy is, he clearly has little sense when it comes to basketball.

I'd love to slice and dice the entire article and all of the things he overlooks and seems to forget about, but I don't have the time.

Bottom line: Hack journalist.

Semper Fidelis,

Yes sirrr...

Rick, EVERYBODY is in on the conspiracy to bring Lebron to NY. Nobody wants to be the one who writes a bad article that Lebron's camp could use to say, well, this is why Bron Bron went to... wherever he ends up going.

Love this line:

"Devean George's stay in Big D is going to last longer than anyone imagined."

Thank god we didn't sign him...

Nice to hear Kobe had a good game.

Or should i say, a Kobe like game lol.

PP = Finals MVP just like Chauncey Billups and Tony Parker - the other two NBA legends!!!

Hahahhahahah!!!

NOT MY POST. CHEERS.

cedichou-

Done! Thanks.

BK

I figured that I may have been a little ambiguous; I was actually responding to the hilarious "My wife thought that a huge mess and a couple of broken chairs was a little sophomoric for a bunch of senior citizens swilling vodka and smoking blunts, even though she knows we have doctors’ prescriptions."

Sounds like you know how to have a good time, LOL

I'M NOT TRYING TO MAKE KOBE LOOK BAD, KOBE MAKES HIMSELF LOOK BAD.

And that's the Truth (get it? The Truth as in PP.)

I'm not the one saying things like:

"I can get off at anytime and I did"

"Gerry Buss is an idiot"

"Shack does it too (paying off women)"

"Ship Andrew's a** out"

Need I say more?

Paul Pierce was going to be invited to play on the US men's team, but Red and Wade complained because they didn't want to have to carry him out from the locker room onto the court every game. They decided to go with someone who can walk under their own power.

Semper Fedelis,

Oh..ok..it's one of the old chapters of DeMolay in the Philippines..

Anybody here who's a Mason or a DeMolay?

Brylle?
