Get your bids in fast!

August 25, 2008 |  9:26 pm

These are lean economic times, but should you have a little cash squirreled away in your sports paraphernalia budget -- and really, after groceries and medical emergencies, most of us have that at the top of the list -- I give you this signed Kobe Bryant Team USA jersey, all framed up and ready for display.

For a cool $995 (plus S&H), you can even circumvent the bidding!

BK & ex,

S&H Green Stamps? I will bet you half of the readers don’t even know what they were. LOL. The same half that never heard of slide rules. How many books for that Kobe jersey?

Tom

If anyone is really seriously considering the Kobe shirt for $995. I have a Lakers Championship
Leather Jacket I might be able to part with for $7,500. Free S & H Certified funds and no returns
only Posted by: Fatty | August 26, 2008 at 09:51 AM

Don't do it Fatty! Save that bad boy and after the Lakers win the title this summer if you really serious
then sell it. You'll make a mint man. LOL! By the way, it's D@mn good to have Fatty humor back on the
Blog. What say you Edwin Gueco.

Larry(mamba24)

RIP Kevin Duckworth

One big, tough, old school type of basketball player.

Oh hell, I don't want any part of that deal. I don't have enough mitichlorians in my
body to play contract negotiations with the big boys. Posted by: Long Time Laker Fan

HaHaHa. LTLF let The Force guide you. Then the Mitchlorians yes they will be yours and more.

I have a Kwame Brown replica doll I'll sell for a bag of chips. The hands are made of genuine stone to ensure authenticity. Hit me up with some Doritos and it's yours.

Xodus,

Thanks for reminding me of how stupid I can be at times. I would like to retract any post that I made thinking it would be fun to have Mike back posting. LOL.

Paul Lee,

Welcome back, PL. 300 lb Beast! That will give us a little toughness.

Taliq,

Those Bleacher Report articles are usually not as good as the bloggers within the blog.

Pig Miller,

With regards to the insufferable blogger.....

As I said a maniac is a negative description so it awakens his combative cells, while a Laker fan makes him a maniacal genius that was his preference that people talk about him. Then, those restive cells are neutralized and hopefully rest in peace. I think that's the concept of chemotheraphy. LOL!

Mamba 24,

I will give you a new name b/c you dance with the bloggers every morning. It's Mambo in summertime, aren't we glad Fatty is back, now let's work on JWW. That will be difficult, he's a serious dude.

JWW, come home now there are no more roll calls we're dancing with the stars LakerTom and Mike T provide the encore from their love-hate relationship.

RIP KEVIN DUCKWORTH a good player and an even better human being. The man
was one of the few that gave back to the community. A fine brother who will be
sorely missed. PEACE BE WITH YOU BROTHER

Larry(Mamba24)

Mamba24,
I think it was Rodman's Xanadu outfits.

Laker Tom,
Hey don't clock my style! I told Fatty when he gave us Fatty's that he deserved a Fatty. JK brother man...

And following the gesture of the other bloggers:
RIP Kevin Duckworth...

For the kobee jersey, I'll offer to trade my collection of plucked nose hairs - both would be about as useful!

Let's not get carried away with the aging kobee's performance. He played one decent quarter in the entire olympics, and he was badly exposed as being a second-tier shooter throughout.

As a defender he did ok vs. certain smaller guards but the way Rudy Fernandez lit him up should bring plenty of worry to laker fans who are looking at Portland and saying, "These guys dominated us in their house last season without Oden, even when we had byenumb. Now they have Oden and Fernandez? Our window is shut!"

That kobee jersey represents an overrated player caught up in his own lifelong struggle to escape the shadow of one MJ.

Now if there was a D-Wade or CPIII jersey, now we're talking...

There might be light on that rumor mentioned by LTLF b/c there are just too many signed Lakers lately as indicated in this article.

Farmar will try harder now that lots of players under considerations, even Sun Yue is optimistic he will play lots of minutes. Welcome to America Mr. Yue, where dreams are sidetrack by realities. Learn how to rant in chinese, either you get shipped out like Cook or get noticed like Kobe. lol

He's not a Laker fan, and never has been. He just comes here to stir the pot. You shouldn't regard the guy's opinion because he only looks to shift everything in his favor by twisting the argument. He can't see past the end of his nose.

LakerTom,
"S&H Green Stamps? I will bet you half of the readers don’t even know what they were. LOL. The same half that never heard of slide rules. How many books for that Kobe jersey?"

I'd be surprised if 25% knew what they were.

I figured that you would, though! That's how I got my first "real" basball glove (a Carl Yaztrzemski model!!) - it was my turn to use the stamps for something.

Pig Miller sez: "Kobe deserves to stand in the company of Finals MVPS like D-Wade and Manu because he won it all for Team USA!"

Actually, the true credit for USA'S success can be attributed to Jason Kidd (58-0 in FIBA!!), who became great as a PHOENIX SUN!

And, USA'S success should be attributed to Jerry Colangelo!

But the most credit goes to LORD D'ANTONI, who so inspired young kobee with his mastery. Of course, kobee has been unable to match D'ANTONI'S success as a championship guard in the ensuing years, and D'ANTONI has busted kobee "every time" in the NBA playoffs (with the help of kobee's other idol, STEVE GNASH). Yes, it was D'ANTONI who led USA to international glory!

Mamba24 sez:

"No way is that gold medal game even as close if Amare had played."

This is true! I suppose Amare had to think of his NBA career instead of playing yet another summer's worth of international games. His knees have been great since surgery but he needs to take it easy. Besides, with D'ANTONI coaching, Amare knew USA had the gold in the bag.

thekobebryantblitz & Lakertom,

from the hoopsworld rumors page, this is the
projected starting lineup for the Lakers:

Projected Rotation
PG: Derek Fisher/Jordan Farmar/Sun Yue
SG: Kobe Bryant/Sasha Vujacic/Coby Karl/Dwayne Mitchell
SF: Lamar Odom/Trevor Ariza/Vladimir Radmanovic/Luke Walton
PF: Pau Gasol/Josh Powell
C: Andrew Bynum/Chris Mihm

I'm not seeing the logic in having 4 SF's and 1.5 PF's.
[ I'm not sure that Josh Powell is guaranteed, hence
the .5 ]

FYI, I'm not seeing the logic of having 4 SF's and 3.5
SG's either. [ If Lamar plays SG, assuming that Karl or
Mitchell make the team I give them a .5 ] ( still with 2 PF's)

I *really* like Odom as 6th man at PF. It plays to his
strengths and strengthens the bench.

I think thekobebryantblitz disagrees with me tho.

"As far as I'm concerned Scottie Pippen is the greatest small forward to ever play the game of basketball, yeah larry you didn't come close and his offense was not far from yours. My man pip carried the bulls to 55 wins in Jordan's absence, almost single handedly put us in the east finals in a series that went 7. And dude 55 wins aint easy in the nba."

Taliq,

I love your energy on this blog, but I gotta slow you down a little here. Your original point of this post of Pip as a premiere defender was on point IMO, but all time, I'd have to disagree completely. I'm not sure how old you are or if you followed the NBA before the 1990's, but saying Pip was better than Bird, is like saying Shaq was better than Kareem. Two different eras, but the numbers say it all.

First off, to your point, Pip was definitely a more ATHLETIC player than Bird, which would explain his superior perimeter defense. However he never averaged double figures in rebounding, which Bird did repeatedly. Like I said though, defensively, he was much better, because of his athleticism, but that's like saying Lebron was the best player in the Olympics because he clearly the most athletic player on the floor. But the best of the best, IMO, are the most skilled, and I think we will agree as to who the most skilled player in the game today is... but back to my point...

Offensively, Pip cannot compete with Bird's skill. Career totals and averages, he doesn't even come close. Pip averaged 16ppg, with his peak at 22ppg, where bird averaged 24ppg and peaked at 29.9ppg, and that was 2 years AFTER his 3rd consecutive MVP. You may not think much of awards (especially since Nash has 2 straight, which I will argue the second was BS) but 3 in a row has only been done by Bird, Wilt and Russell. Look up the stats, for both players down the line, it doesn't come close.

As far as carrying a team single handedly, his rookie year, he turned the Celtics around by 32 games, to a 61-21 record, before losing in the conference finals. He was also All NBA First Team and ROY. Won a Chip the very next year too. As you can tell, Bird was my guy, as Jordan was yours, and how Kobe is our guy right now. So I had to post to set some things straight. Plus he's the only Legend to be so outspoken about Kobe's greatness, which I find to be even cooler. Maybe this changes your mind, maybe it doesn't, but I had to just drop some knowledge. Peace.

A thought on Sun Yue's rebounding stats for the Olympics.

Part of rebounding is about where you are on the floor. In
China's offense, they put Sun Yue on the 3 point line at the
baseline and ran the offense through Liu Wei. Most of the
time, when Liu Wei drove, Sun Yue rotated up to the top and
backed off on defense. Thus he was almost never in position
for offensive rebounds. If he crashes the boards, then there's
nobody back on defense and teams would constantly be
fast breaking on the Chinese.

On defense, China played a zone, and put Sun Yue around the
top of the key. Thus, once again, China's choice of where
to play Sun Yue had an influence on how many rebounds
he got.

He's actually a pretty good rebounder, despite appearances
from the Olympics.

ex,

>>>>>I figured that you would, though! That's how I got my first "real" baseball glove

LOL. My family was in the Chinese restaurant business and we got Green Stamps from the butcher we purchased all of our meat from. It’s where I got ALL of my sports equipment, gloves, bats, balls. We didn’t have much money back then but we had mucho green stamps. I actually had 20 books at one time until I had to split them with my sister.

Dude, you're kidding, right? One of the few? Tell me you know how to read and see how many NBA players give back to their communities and others. NBA Cares?

BUTLER/LGC,

Wow, your persistence on this blog is unmatched. That's normally a good thing, but in your case, the harder you try the dumber you look. You also seem pretty consistent in your two personas, but consistency is only good if you're not a EFF UP. It was a little entertaining in the beginning, but now it's just sad. Your knowledge of this game is about as deep as an 8 year old who only started watching the NBA last season. There is no insight, and you are officially the punching bag of this blog. We can ignore you, but sometimes it's good to just pound on your ignorant posts. And once that wears thin, you pop up with another persona and the cycle continues.

Honestly, you should take those two, good characteristics and do something more positive with them. I thinking you would excel at telemarketing or something like that. but basketball blog, NO. Hopefully this gets through, but I'm sure it won't. I'll pound on your nonsense when I feel like it. Peace.

Mike D'Antoni has a problem, he thinks he can have a book written about his no championship running offence that featured one of the most gifted big men in the game today, a rangy 3 who could shoot and defend and rebound a two-time MVP and one of the quickest guys in the league. They had a versatile bench and a solid rotation. But the aged Spurs OWNED them.

Mike D'Antoni is a washed up joke. Hope all the Knick fans out there aren't looking forward to a playoff run, unless it's for a lottery spot.

If anyone is responsible for Team USA's return to glory it's Coach K. He signed on for the long haul, he brought respect for the game, the players and the ideals of international play and he made sure Jerry Colangello went out and got the right players (funny how no Celtics were on the team, hmmmmm).

After Coach K, I would say that Jason Kidd and Kobe are the two biggest on the court reasons. They led by example. They led with their heads and not their amazing talent. Most of all, they showed what heart was. For all of their physical gifts, and they are plentiful, Dwight Howard, Le Bron James and Carmello Anthony are HEAD CASES. Bron Bron got SWEPT out of the NBA Finals by an aged Spur team. How and why did this happen? Because basketball isn't won by the guy jumping the highest and running the fastest. It's the heart and mind that must be the strongest aspect of your game if you are to overcome the humbling, crippling agony of defeat. That's why the smart coaches and GMs are the ones who go out and get the smart players. All you need are a couple, a few leaders on the floor as it were, an Avery Johnson if you will. Now would anyone in their right mind say that Avery Johnson is better than Steve Nash? Probably not, but how many Larry O'Brian trophies has Steve hoisted over his head.

People, sometimes I think, hey, late October is just around the corner...and it is!!!!!!

GO LAERS!!!!!

Here's the 8 game stats for the Olympic team....

Wade played 5 less minutes per game than Kobe, took 34 less shots, but only made 1 less....

Wade 18.8 mpg 16.0 ppg 4 rpg 67.1% FG 47.1% 3FG
Kobe 23.5 mpg 15.0 ppg 2.8 rpg 46.2% FG 32.1% 3FG
LeBron 24.8 mpg 15.5 ppg 5.3 rpg 60.2% FG 46.4% 3FG

I'll let you read that again.....and weep

Wade 18.8 mpg 16.0 ppg 4 rpg 67.1% FG 47.1% 3FG
Kobe 23.5 mpg 15.0 ppg 2.8 rpg 46.2% FG 32.1% 3FG
LeBron 24.8 mpg 15.5 ppg 5.3 rpg 60.2% FG 46.4% 3FG

Wade and LeBron scored more, and shot better from 3pt range than Kobe did from the field.

LeBron>Wade>Kobe

BTW, the guy that should have gotten Kobe's minutes...Tayshaun Prince shot 59.1% from the field and 54.5% from three point range....imagine the margin of victory Team USA would have had without Kobe Bryant...40.....50???

Oh yeah, Kobe's great defense produced 9 steals in 8 games....

Lebron had 19.
Wade had 18.
Paul had 18.

Did you know...

Chris Paul out rebounded kobee?

And, kobee made 7 FT's in the entire tournament?

30 years old and playing older all the time...

Pig Miller,

I take this post out of the archive based on Mike T. a thousand posts. He has been our maverick, contorversial dude here since time immemorial. We enjoyed b/c it was a comic relief. lol!

*******************************************************

BMAC,

As for you suggesting to me to keep simple, well, this is a blog and i'll write my opinions as I see fit. Come on, with all this technology, you can't tell me that you can't hit the CONTROL and the END key to just scroll over what I have to say. You can use your mouse or the down arrows to scroll pass what I have to say so how much I write is really irrelevant.

****************************************************

So Pig, that's his prescription on how to treat his posts. He is a different breed of Laker fan, and at times, an irrelevant fan with silly ideas. If you turn serious with his posts, you become sillier.

Butler,

"Actually, the true credit for USA'S success can be attributed to Jason Kidd (58-0 in FIBA!!), who became great as a PHOENIX SUN!"

Actually we beat Kidd's Suns 4-1 in the playoffs. Plus he became great in NJ. Maybe you are in reference for his dyed blond hair? Some people may think that was great. Plus his tenure with the Nets at least made it to the finals two times.

"And, USA'S success should be attributed to Jerry Colangelo!"

I'll buy that. He's not with you guys anymore. It's like us Laker Fans taking credit for Shack for taking you to the playoff's for 08.

"and D'ANTONI has busted kobee "every time" in the NBA playoffs (with the help of kobee's other idol, STEVE GNASH)."

We talk rings son. Not in Diaw backdowns from Kwame, and can't play good enough D so I clothesline Kobe Bell defense. How's Nash's hip? xoxoxo from a former Laker great Bob Horry.

I know your just having fun on our blog. All love.

Soon "Sun" Yue you later!

LakerTom,

I fear that the demon that got into Michael Teniente and built his obsession with Kwame Brown has somehow been transfered into you and is now building an obsession with Andrew Bynum.

I love Andrew Bynum. I feel in my gut that he will be the next Great Laker center.

HOWEVER, dude, be patient and, man, if we can sign Bynum for $3 million dollars a year, we should sign him for $3 million a year. All this max contract talk is driving me nuts!

GO LAKERS!

Wow...I picked the wrong day to read the blog again. Its the reason with the trolls and Talk about Mike T hour!

Well I suppose I didnt have to post at all..but what the heck..if idiots can write (GNASH) what ever that is..all day then I guess I can rant a bit.

>Plus S & H green stamps? I didn't think anyone used those anymore. WHere do you go to redeem them?

at long last, the authentic source of Team USA's moniker...

btw, Butler, if what you say about D'Antoni is true, why, pray tell, was Coach K wearing all the players' hardware for that group shot? No disrespect to Arsène Lupin, but that gesture alone speaks volumes about who the real coach of Team USA was. D'Antoni played a valuable role as one of the 3 assistant coaches, but he wasn't head coach. what about this is such a difficult concept?

It says something that there have been numerous trade rumors about LO and zero talk about a contract extension. With a $14.5M expiring contract, those rumors will persist until something happens or the trade deadline passes. That's a huge trade asset. A lot will depend, I'm sure, on how the team gels and what glaring holes become apparent.

If a team looking for cap relief has a player that the Lakers feel like would complete the Championship picture then LO will clearly be on the block in a real way. If LO decides to play out of his mind since this is a contract year for him, then perhaps the Lakers will keep him for this year's run and let his contract come off the books at the end of the season.

Speaking of trading expiring contracts, I think Detroit is look at the Kwame Brown acquisition as filling the void that Darko left behind. They need a victory cigar. Someone to put in the game that signifies they've blown someone out. The Detroit fans used to chant Darko's name when he was put in at the end of games and not being able to do that definitely made it feel like something was missing. Now they can chant Kwame.

So does training camp begin in a month then?

GO LAKERS!

Welcome back FATTY!!!!!!!!!!!! Missed you on the blog this summer. There was a definite lack of humor!

Mamba24 - please say it ain't so. Please say you're saving the Speedo wearing for blinding trolls. Please.

LTLF - I just meant this time around - Shaq wasnt' even asked to participate & has refused to in the past. Kobe jumped on the offer & brought the gold home his first try.

Trolls - the USA brought home the gold because of one Kobe Bean Bryant. Without him they may have taken silver. Sorry to burst your fantasy bubble. Keep up your hating - we all feel sorry for you and would be willing to pay for your meds if you can't afford them. Let us know.

BUTLER

LOL....LOL...LOL. Keep entertaining us, i actually enjoy your post most of the time, and not because i believe every single word you say but they're just way too ludicrous. LMAO.

Keep 'em coming.

Morning all....

I have a ball signed by Magic in 1989,with papers and photos to go with it...Its enclosed in a glass box and has signatures as well....I would never sell it because he in my opinion is the greatest....How much do you guys and girls think its worth..

Thoughts

So what do you think of Darius Miles signing with the Celitcs?

There are several interesting facets to it. He is pretty athletic,
so with good coaching and a good shrink, maybe he could
actually step in and fill James Posey's role (assuming he
actually is fully recovered from his injuries). But my guess
is that he won't be as athletic as he was before the injuries
and won't be able to be very productive for them.

A side issue is that Portland was able to take his salary off
the books because of the claim that he was so injured that
he'd never play again. If he plays in 10 games this season
or next season, then the remaining 9 million of his salary
would go back on the salary cap for Portland. This would
take them from a potential player with lots of cap space next
summer to a team with only a little cap space (and not enough
to lure another major player).

If I was the Lakers, I'd have considered signing him for
the minimum, playing him 9 games, and then calling up
Portland and playing "let's make a deal". I wonder which
of their young players with potential they'd be willing to
sacrifice to keep their 9 million dollars in cap space...
Ike Diogu? Channing Frye? Sergio Rodriguez?

I wish I didn't have to keep looking at the same posts for three hours. WHy does it take so long to update the posts?

Phil Jackson is silly. He said it was Rodman because he didn't want to put down Jordan or Kobe. If all Kobe or Jordan had to do was run underneath the basket, guard a guy, and grab a rebound, they could have more energy after 48 minutes too!

Try scoring 30 points a game and guarding the best player on the other team and chasing him all over the court!!! and THEN let's see who's the better athlete! I can't believe Phil said that.

Pig Miller sez: "Kobe deserves to stand in the company of Finals MVPS like D-Wade and Manu because he won it all for Team USA!"

What a bunch of whinners. I got a truckload of cheese for you to go with that whine.

OMG. Unbelievable.

"Kobe deserves"?

Wha What!?!

Nobody "deserves" anything. It's earned son!

EARNED!

Winning the Finals MVP is about being able to work as a team and being individually great WHEN IT COUNTS.

When it counts son.

Your guy hasn't done jack WHEN IT COUNTS.

2004 Finals? Big fart averaging 25 points on 30 shot attempts per game. Not to mention 3 legit players around Mr. "I can get off at anytime".

2008 Finals? Bigger fart. What happened to Mr. "I can get off at anytime"? Didn't get off in the biggest lost in Finals history. Didn't get off en route to a historical 24 point blown lead.

Deserves my buttox.
hahahhahha
ahhahahhhhh

Hey Butler,

If it were up to Kobee, he'd play with 4 Gnashes, so they can pass him the ball the entire game.

hahaahahahahaah

hobbitmage,

You forget that Vladimir Radmonovich, Luke Walton, and Lamar Odom will at times also play power forward.

GO LAKERS!

Long Time Laker Fan,

As far as Darius Miles goes, how useful he'll be in Boston (assuming he even makes the team, since his deal is non-guaranteed) goes beyond how much of athleticism is regained from the injury. He wasn't all that great a player before getting hurt. Thus, before he can step in for James Posey (as you suggested), he needs to become a considerably better shooter, defender and generally more alert, smart and mature player.

I really would like to see that happen, since I've actually followed Miles since his HS days (he's from East St. Louis, near STL, where I grew up) and to the degree I knew him when he was with the Clips, he was a nice kid. But in talking to both basketball people and Portland writers, his work ethic and attitude (much less the skills) have grown very poor. It's a shame, because that would be a ton of wasted potential.

As for as that scenario you're proposing (basically blackmailing Portland into trading to keep Miles from hitting their books), I guarantee the league offices are keeping an eye out for something like that and it would be easily spotted. The timing would be WAY too obvious.

AK

zen,

Phil Jackson just likes being difficult and contrarian at times. I've learned to view it as part of his charm.

GO LAKERS!

Xodus

[It's arguable whether or not Jordan or Pippen was the better defender. They were both all-time great defenders and we should leave it at that. ]

I agree with you 100%. Blitz tho said

"there is no way that Pip was better than Jordan at defense"

Which is very different from saying it's a tossup. Frankly speaking my 2 favorite ballers are Jordan and Kobe, one's just retired. I got no problem giving MJ the edge talent wise. I'm just saying Pippen was asked to do more defensively, but that doesn't mean Jordan couldn't have done Pippen's job better if PJ had asked.

Wow! Most of the vets are back from the grave. Nice to see the respected seniors on the hardwood.

Respect,

Always nice to hear from you Paul Lee. And Mamba24 of course.

Somehow sanity returns to the blog when both ya come on by lol.

Go Lakers!
