So you think you can dance, Part Deux

You thought the coverage of last weekend's Laker Girl tryouts was over after this dispatch from fellow LAT blogger Adam Rose?  Think again.  He's back with the only thing better than regular pictures-- moving pictures (get your mind out of the gutter if you thought I was heading in a different direction).  Click below for the video.  My personal fave?  The one in which the prospective LG's are asked to spell "Vujacic."

Well played.

Our thanks again to Adam for spending a few hours in a room surrounded by hundreds of beautiful women.  I'm sure it was a horrible burden.

"The Laker girls."

Lawerence Tanter is so cool.

He's probably the model for Dos Equis' 'Most Interesting Man in the World'.

"Too many steps."

GO LAKER GIRLS!!!!!

the vujacic 'spelling bee' was ....sad.

ummm like, omiigawwwd, um whaatt? uummm ..like, i dont know...

slovenia? wheres thaaaat?

vooooo yaaahhhh chitch.....

*hides*

They are Fatty's favorites..... lots of cellulites on the bellly. haha!

I was impressed with the two girls who spelled Vucajicicj right. I consider myself an obsessive laker fan and a sasha lover (in a completely heterosexual way haha, but I couldn't have spelled it correctly- especially under pressure.

LTLF,

What do you think of these trade scenarios by JDrizzle Blog on FoxSports.com?

"Odom's absence will not be painful as long as the Lakers get a solid player in return. Odom is expendable, especially at $15 million. Think about it... Artest, Smith, Prince, Billups, Turkoglu, and Nocioni all make half of what Odom makes and I'd take any of these players over Lamar.

Last year, I was dreaming of Smith wearing purple & gold playing alongside Kobe. If there's a player out there who could resemble Scottie Pippen, it's Smith.

When Bynum returns, he'll be even better. Having said that, which trade scenario involving Odom do you like better?"

Here's the rest of his blog:

Edwin,

You are too much.haha But I must admit, too skinny doesn't work for me. My wife of 32 years is Swedish, tall, slender and blond. I took her away from Balboa, brought her to Arizona and she hasn't forgiven me since. I promised her, when we retire in a few years, we sell the ranch, and move to the beach again.

:Personally, I'm 6'4" and 235 lbs in case you are wondering. I could stand to lose about 15-20 lbs, I must admit.

Fatty is a derivative of my surname, Fatland, and is a nick name I've been using since I was a kid.

AK/ BK,

Am I being punished for my time away. I been asking you guys questions on most days for the last couple of weeks, but I cant get any comments in return. What ya'll need me to do to get back in the fold here?

Poor Adam.

Sasha to Europe does sound like a real concern giving the way players are flying out of here to Europe.

Najja,

I didn't notice the question. What was it?

AK

When the shot is really long; Voo-ya-chich it!

His hair is really long; Vooo-ya-chich it!

Now chich it! ...Chich it good!

Hell yeah, I like that.

"John McCain's daughter is in the news. John McCain's daughter says that a lot of guys don't want to date her because her dad makes her too high-profile. Yeah. That's part of the reason. It's also because McCain's daughter is 63 years old." --Conan O'Brien

Go Lakers!

Now we need pictures of the Lakersblog dancers. AK, you go first.

The NBA more than any other league, has this trend of former players being hired into GM roles. And very rarely do I see a situation where we've seen evidence that these people would be quality general managers. Danny Ferry worked under the SA group I believe, so not to say all. But Michael Jordan has been given two chances at running an NBA franchise and there is no evidence what so ever tha he is any good at being an exec. Magic Johnson on the other hand has proven to be extremely shrewd business man, but I dont even hear his name come up when GM jobs are available. Why would you let Isiah Thomas run two teams and not give Magic an opportunity. Any idea why this is? He seems to love the game so, I cant believe the reason is he just not interested. My friend says people are really scared of his disease, but I mean that cant be it can it?

Najja,

To be honest, I'm not sure Magic hasn't been offered a GM role over the years. Just because he's never held the gig or been publicly courted doesn't mean it hasn't been floated to him at some point. He may just not be interested. Magic has got a bunch of different, very successful businesses going at once and from everything I've read is very hands-on. He may not want to step back from that to be a GM, since that's a full-time job (and then some). Plus, he's involved with the Laker operations as it is (VP/owner). He may feel like he's getting the best of both worlds, on some level, which means there's no need to be a GM somewhere.

Granted, I also have no idea if that's the case. For all I know, he'd like to be a GM and nobody is knocking on the door. I'm just saying, I wouldn't automatically assume that's the case.

AK

BK,

Yes, that was slick. Nice move for peace. Props.

The spelling bee was hilarious. And scary. LOL But how about the girls who could spell Vujacic. Thank God. I was really beginning to wonder about the Laker Girls.

I laugh at those bloggers who “claimed” they couldn’t spell Vujacic either. Think how many times you have seen Vujacic listed in Lakers Blog posts and 90% of the time, it is spelled correctly. LOL. That’s a real sign of how pervasive the blog has become in our lives. And of course how important spell check has become. Hell, I just made auto-check entries in Word for players with difficult names because I couldn’t spell them Now, I just type in the general neighborhood and Word fixes it. LOL.

Tom

Najja aka Bonus

Magic Johnson as a GM? I think if he really wanted the job he could get it somewhere.

I know he is very busy in his own business endeavors.

I kind of feel he his like the Grand parents when it comes to children. They love to play with the grand kids, but at the end of day, the parents have all the responsibility. He likes to tinker as a consultant with the Lakers, but Mitch gets to do all the diaper changing, while Magic gets to go on and build his personal business.

And it appears, he's very happy with his role.

Fatty, you know I'm just joking ok..now I feel guilty when you explained the origin of your name as well as your choice as a mate. I'm careful in hurting fatty's feelings, you might take again a long vacation and we'll be sad here in the blog. Since your wife is Swedish, have you visited Stockhollm? it's an ideal place for vacation especially if you just stay in a boat and cruise the city islands. It is a city that makes you feel you're in medieval times and yet has all the modern facilities within reach.

Is Sasha Vu-ya-CHICK trying out to be a Fakergirl?

Dude can't play ball worth crap.

Soft as butter on the court and flops and pretends like a little girl.

You ladies put your hopes on so-called "machines" like Miss Sasha?

Lakers are a bunch of Fakers.

Oh and Kobe "I can get off at anytime" is the most overrated player in the history of the NBA.

I'm glad my C's exposed him for what he is: A Big Pretender.

"Where is Kobe?" during the finals? Where, where, where?

Nowhere to be found.

hahhaahhaahahhhahaahaha

Starlet Bryant should take notes from Paul Pierce, KG and Ray Ray Allen.

"Top of the World!" --KG

"I can get off at any time" --KB wannabe 23

I feel you guys. I think it is his how well he handles his role with the Lakers amongst his other ventures that makes me want to see him run a team. But AK, you and Fatty make a good point. For a man involved in so much, being a GM might pidgeon hole him. I have to remember the world is bigger than the NBA. Well if he ever slows down enough to run a team or even better buys his own team, I will be extremely happy to root for that club.

Picturing Mitch changing diapers is hilarious.

I approve the girl in the preview frame of the first video.

She can't spell Vujacic, but like the Lakers she's originally from Minnesota so that makes up for things!

Would i be going to far in suggesting another player out there?

Shannon Brown form the Cavs....Please dont shoot me yet...
But although he had a rough time with the Cavs he has good size and can handle the ball well....Gibson was the love child for coach Brown so Shannon didnt get much run..He is stuck between a shooting guard and a point..He would be cheap and better than the summer league guards besides Coby Carl......Invite him to camp and see what happens.....

Just some fantasy thoughts comming from a city thats -1.5 degrees this morning...

"V? Uhh? Uhh..."

Rocky,

Hilarious. Good call.

-bozz-

LOL!

Go Lakers!

I have read the blog for a long time and enjoy it immensely. AK/BK do a great job but I sometimes think they are censored in what they cover. Today I read an article on HoopsHype regarding the power struggle and personality clash of Jeanie and Jim Buss. But that is not the story! The story is that Andrew Bynum our once and future savior has alienated himself from the team because of Jim Buss and it has affected his abiltiy to come back 100% to help the team this year. What gives???

Laker Exile,

"I have read the blog for a long time and enjoy it immensely. What gives??"

First things first, we're definitely not "censored" in any way in terms of what we covered. Let's get that out of the way right now. If we haven't covered something, it's either because we weren't aware of a certain specific or felt it's been covered in the past.

The Roland Lazenby story you're referencing (which will be posted in a bit) says that Bynum isn't really "alienated" from the team, but more Jim Buss' pet (which everyone knows anyway), creating a situation where can work outside them if he feels like it. I'm not saying that's necessarily a good thing, but it's different than being "alienated," which either is the team shunning Bynum or Bynum creating a problematic dynamic for himself (which I've never heard, at any rate). But there are a couple areas where I would disagree with Lazenby's characterizations.

For starters, the notion of Bynum not playing in '07 SPL strikes me as anything but a "bombshell," even if the team thought he might play. Drew was going into his third season and had gotten about 20 mpg in his second season. Most third year players with that experience don't play SPL to begin with. I remember specifically writing that SPL would be a waste of Bynum's time. And it's hard to argue with his strategy, given how much those Atlanta workouts helped.

As for Bynum's knee, I honestly don't know enough about the medical end of this to say how much going outside the Lakers doctors helped or hurt. He may have avoided a procedure recommended by the Lakers' doctors, but you also can't say for sure that following their advice would have gotten everything right. Granted, it also very well could have hindered his healing process. Like I said, I'm not a doctor. But in any event, it's not entirely uncommon for a player to go outside a team's medical staff. Remember, when Kobe was in Colorado, the team had no idea he was even having the surgery, much less in another state to do it.

I also would disagree with you that this story centers around Bynum. It's all about the oddball Buss family dynamic. Bynum is just somewhere between "caught in the middle" and "beneficiary."

AK

Has anyone read this article on hoopshype:

http://hoopshype.com/articles/brown_lazenby.htm

Damn, are things this ugly behind the scenes with the Buss family?

I never expected the Laker girls to be bioengineers, but damn, that was hilariously depressing.

Well, the Birdman signed with Denver. Cross one more off the list. I know the plan is to alter as little as possible, but we do have a Ronny sized hole on the bench and it'd be somewhat comforting if the Laker F.O. added one more piece before the end of the summer... and resigned Sasha!

I still hear nothing about Bynum and his workouts. Is that a good thing?

On Lazenby's article.

He quotes a guy who already tells him that he's out of the loop? So where does he get his material? Other out of the loop insiders?

So now it the summer of Jim Buss all over again courtesy of Lazenby? Dang, I thought we were over this.

Wow.

What an incredible sense of relief I felt when the last woman could spell Vujacic.

Few things are more depressing than a beautiful woman being mentally incompetent and then laughing it off as if it is unimportant.

Nothing quite as lovely as having an argument with a beautiful woman who cares nothing about logic or reason. {Oh God, I'm flashing back to the majority of my past romantic relationships! NOOOO!!!!!!}

Let me just say this, that hot blonde who could actually spell Vujacic was INCREDIBLY hotter to me than the ones who could not and just laughed it off.

GO LAKERS!

After all, nobody is accusing Roland Lazenby as troll for exposing the realities of the dysfunctional family. Who said nobody is reading the posts of Mike T? Well, hoopshype does and they're speculating on Kwame. yes for God's sake, Kwame! Not Artest, not Okafor, not Turiaf and that will bring Championship to the Lakers. LOL!

The Laker drama never ends, there is always a sequel to it.

Guys,
The tryout at the 1:04 mark on the first video and the 1:19 mark on the second video is the cute one. Mmmm. Brunettes.

Richtown,
Thanks for the link.

Thirty2 - did you say -1.5 degrees??? Where are you?

richtown,

When I read that Roland Lazenby article, I literally began to feel sick to my stomach.

{Please, God, not more of this...}

I wasn't upset at the notion of Kwame Brown returning. I'm becoming more at peace with the idea, and I'm sure it will give Laker Nation plenty to squabble about, which is sometimes fun (sometime not).

It was the notion of this civil war between the Jeannie and Jim Buss factions and Jim Buss mucking up Andrew Bynum's understanding of his role in the organization.

Urgh.

Me, if I could pass the torch from Dr. Jerry Buss to one of his kids, I'd have him pass it to Jeannie. Her heart has always been in the right place. She truly loves the Lakers. She loves the Lakers like we do.

(And unlike Jim Buss, she doesn't have her personal bartender on Lakers payroll.)

So, in any case... NO MORE DRAMA! Drama bad! Drama not good for Lakers! Bad! Bad! Bad!

{Still feel a little sick to my stomach. We are so close right now to a return to Dynasty. Please don't muck it up.}

GO LAKERS!

Kwame

If we can get him for the veteran's minimum or close to that, why wouldn't we sign him? We have to have another center/power forward for sure. He knows the system, and plays decent defense.

And let's hope he rides the pine!

John

Any of you dig the movie "Bowfinger"? "K.I.T. - keep it together keep it together keep it together keep it together keep it together..... "

"This has come to have frustrating and perhaps disastrous results once the talented young center injured his knee in February. Rather than trust the team doctors, Bynum pursued his own medical advice on how to deal with the surgery and recovery from the damage to the medial collateral ligament.
Supposedly, team doctors wanted Bynum to “suture” the knee, reportedly a standard practice after MCL surgery. However, Bynum’s personal doctor opposed it. When Bynum’s recovery ran into trouble, he turned to a second doctor who reportedly also opposed suturing. Again, the knee remained slow to heal.
Now Bynum looms as a huge question mark for the team heading into training camp. Will he be ready to go?" - Hooshype thru Roland Lazenby

~~ Well, well these were the subjects of hot headed debates in March and April over the conflicting reports on Bynum's medical condition. I think our daily experience with human nature gives justice to our criticisms. I find it odd why Drew went to NY to seek cure and in MidWest to get a second opinion. Where are the Laker team doctors from this mix? We often said one of the best doctors on athletes are found here in Southern California and yet Drew found solace in other states. With his recalcitrant approach on his injury, up to this day his progress is a question mark. I hope people in this blog become more realistic and attune with the news than entertaining fantacies often get upset when someone opines that goes against the grains of Laker fandom.

I love Roland Lazenby as a writer, but the guy does have his biases (against Phil Jackson, for Tex Winters, etc.).

Still...

That article was pretty upsetting.

It will be hard to handle more self-destructive drama when we are so close to a return to Dynasty.

GO LAKERS!

I personally love tom brady on the looks department over sasha....

but sasha isnt bad looking..i mean..for a guy..i mean...i like his eyes..and hair...he's cute...

what do you guys think?

Thirty2,

With that kind of weather, I'm surprised you know more about liquor other that Vodka.

C'mon, guys, it's summertime. I was just seein' if anybody was awake out there.

Roland

Hi you are good! I’m a poet too, though not as good as you. You have such a great potential. Keep it up! Busby Seo Challenge

Lazenby's just stirring the pot a little and it makes for good copy. The fact is that this summer is remarkably drama-free compared to last (and a whole host of others for that matter). It's kind of nice, actually... the blogging's run the gamut from Laker girls to molecular biology or some such. Now, back to contemplating second-string PFs that we can pick up on the cheap. Yawn, stretch.

The tryout at the 1:04 mark on the first video and the 1:19 mark on the second video is the cute one.

Charles

Your right, and belonging to Lambda Lambda Lambda this is all I think about. Those dumb jocks, all they think about is sports. You wouldn't happen to be Tri Lambda yourself would you?

Okay... okay... okay....

Here's the thing I don't get about Roland Lazenby's article.

He wrote an earlier article in which he talks about how Dr. Jerry Buss was responsible for the firing of Phil Jackson and how that firing was the best thing that ever happened to Phil Jackson because it put Phil's ego in check and helped him to become a better coach.

NOW Lazenby is stating that Jim Buss was responsible for the firing of Phil Jackson and that it was an act of incompetence.

What the hell?

Drama. I hate drama. I know some in Laker Nation are addicted to this drama, but it has never been good for the Lakers and will never be good for the Lakers.

Never.

Get over it.

GO LAKERS!

RE: Lazenby Article

I am a fan of Roland Lazenby and his work and admire what he has done in the past, but that article was just National Enquirer-esque garbage. The next time I hear someone reference an "insider" I'm going postal. I know reporters have to protect their sources, but seriously, you can't throw "stuff" out there without some credibility behind it.

Listen, I'm guessing there is some drama within the organization (can't remember when there hasn't been) but at the end of the day, Dr. Buss is a smart man who deeply cares about his Lakers and what it takes to succeed and I can guarantee that if things got to a boiling point he'd take care of it.

While all eyes here are focused on the overdue signing of Sasha and other rumors....

Two former classmates of disgraced referee Tim Donaghy will spend over a year in prison for their roles in the betting scandal that rocked the NBA.

James Battista, a professional gambler, was sentenced in New York to 15 months in prison for making bets based on inside tips. Thomas Martino, got a one-year sentence for paying the referee thousands of dollars for the tips.

...gotta wonder, when will David Stern come clean about questionable officiating?

The reason guys like Mitch and Jerry are such good GMs is that they have been through the NBA. They have gotten hurt, rehabbed, come back. they have won, they have lost.

Jim Buss? I'm sorry, maybe he got a tip that Bynum was a beast in the making, but he is a rich man's son. He hasn't worked hard for anything, except his beer belly. As glad as I am that we didn't draft Sean May, I have never been a fan of a father simply handing the keys to the kingdom to the prince in waiting. There is no better way to ruin a legacy than to put someone who doesn't understand how the world works in charge of a world class organization.

Jim Buss is that prince. I don't care about his lifestyle, in fact I admire his famialal hedonism, but Jerry always left the basketball to the people who know and made sure the ladies are taken care of. That's why his model is so successful. But Jim seems to want to add his fottprint in the sand to his father's, except that he's stumbling along instead of striding.

Starnge relationships in sports are hardly new, especially bewteen a player and the guy responsible for bringing him up, but in this case it sounds like something more divisive. I hope it's not the case.

AK/BK...I know you are LA Times guys and not Laker staffers, but I'm sure the Laker Nation is turning a wary eye towards this issue.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Fire32,

I went to a state school. The mixed drinks were flowing so bad, you didn't had to be greek to partake of the lawn festivities and bad hip hop music.

Best

Good Morning Edwin,

I followed blog rules with the "haha'" after my comment to show it doesn't bother me. In fact I love it when people tease me about my name. It just makes me tough, like Lakers tough. lol

And believe me, by the time I was in 3rd grade, i heard every joke. I just wanted to give you some Fatty background.

As much time as we've spent on the continent, we have never been to Sweden. Its very expensive and now with the weak dollar, almost prohibitive. Besides, when you only have 2-3 weeks for holiday, I find my self very content to spend that time on the Costa Brava or in Provence.

Best regards,

Fatty

Let's Go C's

Ahhhh, NOW I get it, you have al ove/hate relationship with the Lakers.

You love Kobe Bryant and his world class basketball talent, but you hate that he's in Los Angeles (a much warmer and culturally advanced city than Bah-Stahn)

You think Sasha's cute, but he's also out of your league...relationship wise.

You admire Phil's wisdom and calmness in the face of disaster, but his limp scares you and, besides, he's taken.

I should have relized that you are struggling with a closeted identity and are just expressing your frustration (like most children do) at the object you desire most...the Lakers.

My bad. I too love the Lakers, but have come to a place where I realize my position on earth.

I'm sorry for thinking you were a die-hard Celtic fan who bled green when you are a closeted Laker lover.

GO VICARIOUS RELATIONSHIPS!!!!!

Kwame back to the Lakers?

“Are you kidding me?” - Fatty

“This is no joke” - Roland Lazenby

Also, who needs contentious politics when we have the Lakers family to talk about. Better than any soap opera.

“As the Lakers Turn” (key in organ music as you read the article)

http://tinyurl.com/583odl

he's a marching man!

he's Kwaminus Brownicas!

he's marching this way!

Mighty Kwaminus will lead us to victory!

his calves are tight!

Mike T will be up all night!

he's a marching man!

he's Kwaminus Brownicas!

One other thing.
You're correct in saying this article has a National Enquirer feel about it. I apologize for that.
But the Bynum situation is important. After all, the Lakers have hedged on making him the monster qualifying offer. This helps explain why.
I quoted Tex because if I hadn't quoted him and explained that he had nothing to do with this story, then many readers would have immediately assumed he had something to do with it.
This way it's clear he's not the source.
And the drama between Jim and Jeanie has actually subsided to a degree. But I had to go into the background of the situation to explain it.

Cheers.

Roland

This summer is drama free because Kobe is not yapping his mouth about this dysfunctional family like he did last year.

Edwin:

Regarding the doctors for Drew..........he went to Dr. David Altcheck in NY, the same doctor Tiger Woods choose for his knee surgery, which leads me to beleive the Doc is pretty much at the top of his field.

There's no need to fear, KWAME BROWN is here.

When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
KWAME BROWN, KWAME BROWN.

When in this world the headlines read
Of those who's hearts are filled with greed
And rob and steal from those in need.
To right this wrong with blinding speed goes
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN,
KWAME BROWN.

Speed of lightning, roar of thunder,
Fighting all who rob or plunder
KWAME BROWN, KWAME BROWN.

Here I come
Walking down the street
I get the funniest looks from
Everyone I meet.

Hey, hey it’s KWAME BROWN,
and people say I monkey around.
But I’m too busy singing,
to put MIKE T down.

I go wherever I want to,
Do what I like to do.
I don't have time to get restless,
There's always something new.

Hey, hey it’s KWAME BROWN,
and people say I monkey around.
But I’m too busy singing,
to put MIKE T down.

I’m just trying to be friendly,
Come watch me sing and play.
I’m the young generation,
And I got something to say.

Hey, hey it’s KWAME BROWN,
You never know where I’ll be found.
So you'd better get ready,
I may be comin to your town.

Hey, hey it’s KWAME BROWN,
and people say I monkey around.
But I’m too busy singing,
to put MIKE T down.

That story seems a bit odd coming from Roland. If there weren't a name printed at the top, I'd guess that it were written by Peter Vecsey.

On the Lazenby article:

What a bad article. It jumps ALL over the place. It hits on Kwame, the Buss', Andrew, Artest with no clear path, I thought the article was supposed to be about Kwame. I'm not familiar with this writers work but it seems like he is just trying to stir some stuff up. He's using old quotes that probably aren't real.

Anyways, hope Socks is doing good and getting ready to bring the chip to LA next year.

Lamar = Laker for Life

GO LAKERS

Edwin,

>>>What do you think of these trade scenarios by JDrizzle
>>>Blog on FoxSports.com?

WRT Lamar Odom for Josh Smith...

Sure, no problem. But your statement that "these guys make
half of what Odom makes" goes out the window on this deal.
Smith's new contract probably starts at 12 or 13 million and
ends at MUCH more than Lamar is making.

WRT Nocioni and Hinrich for Odom and Farmar

Well, Hinrich is a slight improvement over Farmar... he's
better defensively, but I think Farmar is a better shooter.
Odom's a lot better than Nocioni though. Noc would end
up being a third Lakers SF that everyone keeps complaining
about how overpaid he is.

And that deal commits the Lakers to 18 to 14 million for the
next 4 seasons (it goes down every year) for those two
players. Add that to Kobe's big contract and Gasol's big
contract and Bynum's upcoming big contract and you're
talking Knicks level salary.

If the Lakers do trade Lamar, I think it will be for one good
player (but not a star) and one big expiring contract. What
you want is someone that's nearly as good as Lamar (doesn't
have to be a SF/PF) at about 7 to 9 million a year and signed
for several seasons. If the Lakers don't do a trade like that,
then they'll be in the situation Chicago is in next year or
the year after -- adding big contract[s] (Bynum, Farmar)
to an already large salary base.

So basically, Chicago and the Lakers both kinda want the
same thing - long term salary reduction. Obviously they
can't BOTH get it in a trade.

Atlanta is different.. They have multiple problems. Their
ownership is in dispute ever since the Joe Johnson trade,
so it's like dental work getting a deal done with them. They
just lost their 6th man to EuroLeague, and they aren't even
close to re-signing their second best player. And they only
have 8 players under contract and Josh Smith's contract
will probably put them close to the luxury tax level. (if
they signed and traded Smith for Odom, that would put
their total salary next season at around 67.5 million --
the luxury tax is 69 million). Granted, Lamar's contract
expires after next year, but do you give up Josh Smith for
a 1-year rental of Lamar?

What Atlanta needs isn't a 1 for 1 swap. They need to get
like 2 or 3 serviceable players for Smith, preferably a couple
good players that are signed for several seasons at MLE or
below and an expiring contract or two. I'm pretty sure they'd
prefer a deal like Walton + Farmar + Ariza + Mihm for Josh
Smith. But that would really screw up the Lakers finances.

So in terms of what I think of those two deals. in terms of
the players, I'm okay with them, but in terms of the financial
side of either deal, they don't make sense.

Jamie Sweet,

You holding a prayer ritual huh?

Rhetorical Questions-------

- HOW can anyone blame Bynum (or Jim Buss) for choosing the advice of his own doctors over the team medical staff?? If Bynum is aware of what happened to Mihm, Luke, Karl Malone, Ariza, etal., following their surgeries, than Bynum's decision is a no brainer.

- Although I don't condone Jim's comments about Phil not being able to coach big men, what does that comment have to do with Bynum's decision to listen to his own doctors?

- How can anyone doubt Lazenby and his sources?? Based on his history, if he is referencing a source, it is a legitimate source. Period.

- "We could've used Kwame in the finals". That's all I need to know. Sign him. My only concern is, will Phil give Kwame more minutes than he deserves ala Luke ala Smush ala Cook?

- If Magic wants to be a GM of another franchise, doesn't he have to give up his ownership stake of the Lakers due to conflict of interest? If that's the case, why would Magic ever want to be a GM for another franchise, unless he was offered ownership? Conversely, why would any team offer Magic ownership for his GM duties?

- If Jim Buss gets all the credit for drafting and holding onto Bynum, as well as drafting Turiaf, than how can Laker fans have such confidence in Kupcake? I give Kupchak full praise for trading for Gasol (after Bynum's injury), but what else has Kupcake done in the last 8-9 years?? Fisher was a gift and it was Shaq who brought in Malone and Payton. Kupcake's memorable highlights include the drafting and resigning of Brian Cook, the acquistion of Samaki Walker, the resigning of Mihm and Luke (for 20 years), and the trading of Caron and Chucky Atkins for Kwame, leaving Smush as our starting PG. Does the trade for Gasol outweigh the years of ineptitude? Those who have confidence in Kupcake are no different than the victims of spousal abuse, who after a decade of abuse, suddenly have amnesia after receiving a nice bouquet of flowers.

- Why does the selection committee for the Laker Girls place such high emphasis on dancing ability and personality?? I watched a show on the Laker Girls a few years back, and noticed that the hottest girls were not being selected due to these petty issues. Am I the only one who finds this tragic?? Would Laker fans really care if a Laker Girl has a misstep or two in her routine, if she was smokin hot?? I sure wouldn't.

Didn't Phil say "We haven't seen Kwame's best game yet?"

Jon K,

Yeah its the kind of article that could hold some serious weight in the near future. If bynum get injured again and seperates himself from the rest of the squad again it may cause a canyon sized rift the way kobe's loners ways kind of began the rift between he, shaq and the rest of the older players on the lakers.

I just hope its mostly hear say and nothine else-even though it does help explain the drew seeing his own doctoor ordeal. But even though drew didn't play in summer league with the lakers in 07 he came into last season in shape and ready to play

Charles,

No problem.

Unfortunately it kind of puts a blemish on what i thought would be a great summer to look foward to the 08-09 nba season with a healthy team all on the same page.

richtown

Drew went to see Dr. Altcheck because he's about the best in the business regarding knees............same doctor Tiger chose for his knee operation. He was just getting the best doctor out there for his injury.

Let's Go C's (or whoever was impersonating him),

>>>I personally love tom brady on the looks department
>>>over sasha....
>>>
>>>Lbut sasha isnt bad looking..i mean..for a guy..i mean...
>>>i like his eyes..and hair...he's cute...
>>>
>>>what do you guys think?

I think Let's Go C's wants Sasha to make him his Vujabic

I don't think there's any question Kwame is the best backup Center available. Otherwise, we would have to trade for one. If we can get him cheap, why not? The players like him, he's happy just being a backup, it's entertaining as hell for the fans. Win-win-win for everyone involved. Mike T will stay up all night studying Kwame's every move, chronicling the smallest detail... you'll wake up the next morning and there will be a full report on how EVERYTHING in the game involved Kwame, from the fat little kid in the front row who spills his drink to the very last reserve player on the other team, ALL deeply and emotionally affected by the mere presence of the Kwaminus.

Vote YES on Kwame Brown!

Toad,

With due respects, not all professional with big names and degrees after their names can cure. huh!

Where is Tiger Woods now? Still injured.

What happened to Drew Bynum who is supposed to be ok after 8 weeks which was May 15th? Flip flopping news on his clearance to play.

Quote of the Day: "The proof of the pudding is in the eating."

You pretty much took the words out of my mouth about Roland and the nature of the article. As did the blogger who insightfully posted as Roland Lazenby and said “C'mon, guys, it's summertime. I was just seein' if anybody was awake out there.”

What’s scary though is the reality that the Buss Family saga does possess all of the key elements needed to convince some Hollywood entertainment mogul that it could be the next great reality soapbox to sweep the nation and Neilson’s – a Shakespearian drama of brother and sister pitted against each other for the crown with sister sleeping with the king’s wizard and brother plotting with the king’s superhero 20-year old knight. LOL.

When you factor in the potential dysfunction due to the family and Jeanie’s relationship with Phil and rivalry with her brother, I think the other thing that keeps the front office functioning pretty well is Mitch Kupchak, who strikes me as a calming professional general manager who is probably a great force for reason in the background and not just the face of the Buss’ in the public eye. Jerry probably listens to Mitch more than his kids at this point. The bigger worry is what happens when Jerry is gone. That’s scary.

I think you’re right that Dr. Buss will keep things under control. I have no complaints about Drew working on his own, considering the great results he got from working with Sean Zarzana, nor on his seeking a second opinion on his knee and following HIS own personal doctor’s recommendation. I would opt always to be conservative here and the two doctors Drew chose must have had a good reason to treat the knee as they did.

Tom

Kwaminus as Anne Hathaway in the Center Wears Prada Brownicus,

Actually, it's a "lose" for the blogers. Why?

"Mike T will stay up all night studying Kwame's every move, chronicling the smallest detail... you'll wake up the next morning and there will be a full report on how EVERYTHING in the game involved Kwame, from the fat little kid in the front row who spills his drink to the very last reserve player on the other team, ALL deeply and emotionally affected by the mere presence of the Kwaminus."

Haha.

-bozz-

Long Time,

>>>>> I think Let's Go C's wants Sasha to make him his Vujabic

Thing must be going well right now in your life because you’ve been pretty damn funny the last few days. “Vujubic” really had me laughing out loud. Extremely clever and perfectly executed. Bravo! Was it extemporaneous or an arrow in your quiver?

Tom

AK & BK,

Thanks by the way for putting a stop to the auto-play on the videos. What a relief.

Tom

Fatty,

You better visit the hometown of your wife in Sweden when the dollar recovers after Obama's Presidency. Oops! no politics can't help it, I just finished listening to his greatest speech in Berlin. You will enjoy the scenery in the capital, the people, and Swedish way of life. You don't have to spend that much if you exercise frugality and use the net in navigating places to visit and setting up itinerary. Trains and public busses are very efficient. Provence and Costa Brava are also nice but it's just similar to picnicking at your Oak Creek Canyon there in AZ. Get the Stockholm card for a week that will give u free public transport and entrance to all museums.

toad ,

I don't disagree with that at all. I just thought that it was odd that he never really followed what the Lakers medical staff suggested. He even went out and got a second opinion from another doctor than the one that did the surgery.

He was well within his right to do so especiallly after seeing how Mihm was misdiagnosed for so long and Ariza not healing in the time he was originlly informed he would, When you an athlete especially a basketball player knees, feet and ankles are your bread and butter so I understand that you have to be overly caustious

KWAME BROWN IS NOT THE ANSWER…

To any question other than who does Mike T love more than anybody in the NBA. And he sure is not the answer to the Lakers becoming tougher.

Let me ask you this question: Have you ever seen Kwame Brown angry? Frustrated, embarrassed, humiliated, sullen, smiling, joking – but never angry. Even after he screwed up, never Angry. Just trying to clap his hands, drop his head, and run back to the other end of the court. Is that what you want sitting on our bench, a guy with no heart?

Just say NO to Kwame Brown.

Tom

Last week Eric Pincus suggested that Kwame might be the most likely replacement for Ronny, and now Lazenby.

If Kwame is signed by the Lakers for 2 mil/yr or more, all heck will break lose on the blog. Won't that be fun?

Where is MikeT?

Any truth to the rumors about Kwame being picked up as a back-up for Bynum?????????????????????????????????

http://hoopshype.com/articles/brown_lazenby.htm

Has anyone seen this yet. I dont know about the rest of you, but I am really fed up with Jim Buss's business antics. Why does he have to keep proving a point to everyone invloved with the Franchise? Does his act ever get old to him? I really hope Jeanie takes over the franchise and Jerry wakes up.

richtown,

Right! It sounds like Jim Buss is farming a Shaq versus Kobe Deux situation where the role of Shaq is played by Andrew Bynum.

How the hell came Jim Buss tell Andrew Bynum that Phil Jackson doesn't know how to coach big men? What madness is this?

He IS a big man and he coached Shaq who referred to him as "the best coach [he] ever had". This is insanity.

I hope Jeannie Buss gets control over the team and she marries Phil Jackson and the two of them run the organization.

I agree with several people that it was not a well-written article and had a certain schitzophrenic quality to it, but.... urgh.... I feel a little sick just thinking about it.

NO MORE DRAMA! I AM TIRED OF DRAMA! PUT YOUR DAMNNED EGOS ASIDE AND FOCUS ON WINNING!!! THAT'S IT!

URGH!

GO LAKERS!

Mikeandmike,

Yeah. We read it.

The terror. The terror.

The Kamenetsky Brothers should start a new thread around this article and Roland Lazenby should come on to defend/explain the article. He's done so once, but it's not enough.

GO LAKERS!

giantsquid,

"If Kwame is signed by the Lakers for 2 mil/yr or more, all heck will break lose on the blog."

Absolutely.

I miss Ronny already.

GO LAKERS!

I dont understand why everyone in here is justifying JIM BUSS'S actions since he started. He has been the basketcase here the whole time. Common lakers fans wake up, look at all the havoc he is bringing. And this is only the beginning.

I believe in you Kwame Brown.

Long Time,

I agree. That’s what is appealing in a way with Artest, not the deal with Thomas’ contract but the possibility of replacing Lamar with a comparable talent at less money, which may not be possible. But it makes sense from a salary cap or luxury tax point of view. By the same token, I could also see a scenario where Lamar would accept a lower salary also as a way for the Lakers to keep him but still reduce salaries.

Tom

EdwinG,

" ...greatest speech in Berlin."

Wasn't that something? Thousands and thousands of people, many waving American flags, in Germany for goodness sakes.

As far as Lazenby's comments, he's probably right. It's not really what a Laker fan wants to hear, but Jim Buss is an idiot, we know that.

Can you imagine the Lakers with Jim Buss as the owner? It's going to happen one day. That will be a sad day. Like that day in 2000 when that terrible thing happened in Florida.

It sucks that reject sons gain so much undeserved power time and time again.

LakerTom,

That's an interesting point. I've never seen Kwame Brown angry.

However, Kwame Brown angry would be a site to behold. How can we make Kwame Brown angry? Hmmm....

Time to break out the Bio-Chrono.

GO LAKERS!

well... for those opposed to Kwame, the question has to be asked, who else do you see out there that's better?

I've asked about Randolph Morris (6-11, 260), no response. I haven't seen much of him, don't think he's on Kwame's level so... who else is out there?

As the article flat out said, who do we have to bang with a Kendrick Perkins? There's all these washed up has-beens out there, and as far as MBenga, A. he's not big enough, B. some of you guys actually claim MBenga is better on offense than Kwame??? LOL! At least Kwame sets picks for guys, MBenga is out there, flopping all over the place, actually, not flopping, more like... moving like a spaz trying to set a pick here and there... so what if he makes a basket here or there? The rest of the time, he's useless and I LIKE the guy personally...

Hi, Roland,

>>>>> C'mon, guys, it's summertime. I was just seein' if anybody was awake out there.

We have been hit with so many cases of identity theft around here that most of us didn’t think this was actually you until the second post. We thought the post was funny though. LOL. At any rate, we have actually been MORE than awake. In fact, the Kambros have had to resort to posting Lakers Girls threads twice this week to cool the hot tempers and boiling politics down. Then you dump more fuel onto the fire by feeding the Kwame and Bynum debaters with more raw meat to fight over. LOL.

>>>>>One other thing.
>>>>>You're correct in saying this article has a National Enquirer feel about it.
>>>>>I apologize for that.
>>>>>But the Bynum situation is important. After all, the Lakers have hedged
>>>>>on making him the monster qualifying offer. This helps explain why.

What is your opinion as to whether or not the Lakers will sign Drew to a near-max extension before October 31st. We have posters who say we will for sure to guarantee we won’t lose him to free agency and others who say we would foolish to commit to a near-max deal on guy who is injury prone and really hasn’t proven himself for a full season? Personally, I expect a $60M to $70M extension for 5 years, based on what Bogut got from the Bucks. Love to hear your opinion on the extension.

The other issue is whether or not the Lakers need to be careful with their offer so as not to insult Andrew. Do you think this is an issue considering how Mitch negotiates and do your comments insinuate that Drew is more sensitive about the amount of the offer than some think considering his comments that he didn’t need to be paid max money?

>>>>>I quoted Tex because if I hadn't quoted him and explained that he had
>>>>>nothing to do with this story, then many readers would have immediately
>>>>>assumed he had something to do with it. This way it's clear he's not the source.
>>>>>And the drama between Jim and Jeanie has actually subsided to a degree.
>>>>>But I had to go into the background of the situation to explain it.

That makes sense since we all know you and Tex have had a long time relationship. How is Tex’s and his wife’s health these days and is he going to be back as a consultant/coach for the Lakers next year? Hoping for good news.

Thanks.
Tom

You know, the other side of the coin is that it's kind of great having a dysfunctional family dynasty - it's good entertainment. Cameras, sound, blog, action!

Cheerleaders are kind of creepy, in a way.

GO LAKERS!

Andrew the K/Brian the Kamenator,

Are you aware of any changes that will occur with next year's Lakers training staff?

GO LAKERS!

Kwame back?

I'll let Stephen A. Smith speak for me on that one.

Doesn't he have enough money for a 24-hour party island yet?

AWESOME POST.

Next time send me to the Laker Girl Tryouts!

Edwin,

That was a truly inspiring speech that should make every American proud, whether Democrat or Republican. If you read the content of the speech, there is nothing in there that John McCain wouldn’t completely agree with and support, including the theme that the world needs to unite to face the challenging international threats facing us

But back to basketball, Obama was in a gym in Kuwait during his recent middle east trip dribbling the ball behind the 3-point line. After striking a few basketball poses for the photographers, he warned “ I may not make the first one, but I’ll make one eventually. He then let it fly. Result: Swish.

Could Obama play backup point guard if the election doesn’t go as he hopes? LOL

Only reason not to vote for or draft him in my mind is that he’s a damn Bulls fan. LOL.

Tom

There is only one "C" man and that's me.

Who's the Faker being a faker?

I gots no problem with Starlet Kobe except that dude don't know how to win.

Best player since Jordan? Bah hamhahg.

Not ever close. You's gots to win a title as the lead dawg before you can be compared to Jordan, Bird, even Majic/Kareem.

Hell Shack Oneal deserves more luv than Starlet Bryant. Dont worry my Kobe worshippes, the "star" in Starlet Bryant is dwindling every year as the old man gets ole.

The celtics on the other hand, will be winning, winning and winning more championships.

Lakers will wunder why, why, why.

haahahahahahahhhhhahhah

Kwaminus as Anne Hathaway in the Center Wears Prada Brownicus,

If you were the Mitch Kupchak, how much do you think Kwame Brown is worth?

GO LAKERS!

"As the article flat out said, who do we have to bang with a Kendrick Perkins?"

Why is that question even being asked? How much impact did Perkins have on the Finals? Think he would have gotten in foul trouble guarding Kwame?

And that question implies that Kwame would be playing significant minutes, because if he's just the backup, he wouldn't be "banging with Perkins" anyway. Kwame would be coming in with the second unit. And how many second units have players with a good post-up game, which is the only area where Kwame is decent? Bet Farmar and Luke are excited about Kwame coming in with them. SHould really help with them outscoring the opponent.

Benjamin,

I agree. Stephen A. will tell us exactly why we SHOULDN'T bring Kwame back.
