In related news, I plan on vomiting for the 13th time

We get it. You're devoted to each other in the way normal human beings couldn't possibly understand.  Move on.

By the way, what's the gift protocol if you've been invited more than once?

If I were a friend of the Christies I would have stopped showing up to the weddings by about the 2nd wedding.

Vegas is laying odds on how many Weddings the Christies will have before their first divorce.

I heard they put into their will that once they pass on, their bodies will be exhumed yearly and be remarried on the anniversary of the original wedding date, for a mass cemetery wedding.

Poor Seattle. First they lose the Sonics, and now this.

Doug "Wa-pshh!" Christie

(Thats a whip sound)

Xodus,
Does he give that little sign to her everytime he says his vows, like he does when he shoots a free throw?

{Said in an Eric Cartman voice} Lame.

GO LAKERS!

Man whats wrong with him? i dont even want to get married once....

Go Lakers

That dude ain't whipped...that dude is a victim of domestic violence. You can't tell me she ain't the type to go upside Doug's head just for LOOKING at another female.

Girl is CRAZY and DERANGED for sure!

I guess he's just trying to become the next Dennis Rodman. So sad.

Love is beautiful.

Love is all.

This is not love! Puke! haha.

Go Lakers!

LakerTom,

The Lakers aren't behind the 8-ball if they don't re-sign Drew this summer. They'll be able to offer him more money, a contending team that's won one or two titles by that point, and the opportunity to play in Los Angeles for the rest of his career. I'm not saying that I want it to get to that point, but if it's at the expense of giving him anything more than 5 years at 50 million, I think the Lakers should stand their ground. You don't give a max or near max deal to a guy who hasn't made a single all-star team.

AK,

So I'm guessing you're still working on that next report card, huh?

So, who knows the roster for the Lakers' Summer League team?

GO LAKERS!

In light of the defeat the Lakers suffered during this past NBA championship, and as a result it became apparent that the team has some weakness, there have been some suggestions that the Lakers should be in the free agency market to get players like James Posey (a winner), Brent Barry, Ron Artest and perhaps Kevin Garnett. These are wishful thinking, but it helps to make the off season interesting.

James Posey was a free agent last year looking for a home and a decent pay day. The Lakers decided to spend $30 million for 6 years on Luke Walton. Knowledgeable people were prescient and criticized the deal because most thought that Walton does not deserve that kind of money based on what he had done and his potential. Luke Walton has not surprised anyone who had that opinion. Luke Walton should not be a regular in a rotation. He should get his minutes when the game is not in doubt (winning or losing) or when a player is in EARLY foul trouble. Then he makes his appearance and disappears when it is time to do so. It was a bad investment. Other potential suitors would use that as a benchmark to make decision on their contracts. Should they get less than Walton if they can outperform him?

The Lakers have a good team, no doubt about that. Proof? They made it to the NBA finals beating two quality teams (Spurs and Jazz). To win it all, these are my suggestions:

They need a defensive- minded assistant coach to help them adopt a philosophy and keep it in the arsenal. They should unleash it through out the season and be seen as a defensive minded team. You want teams to spend time practicing to play against your defensive scheme. This would be opportunity cost to them.

The starters and bench need to be configured. The team has a gem in Colby Karl whose potential should be unleashed during his second year. He reminds me of Gibson of the Cavs. He was set free two playoffs ago and people saw what he could do. Pure and deadly shooter.

These will be my starters.
Jordan, Kobe, Gasol, Ariza and Bynum.

The bench will be:
Fisher, Sasha, Karl, Odom, (and a player to be described below)
The Lakers need a big man who can play defense (rebound and block shots) and can shoot free throws.

If you notice I have not mentioned either Walton or Radmanovich in the rotation. As mentioned above, they should not be part of the rotation. They are ad-hoc players. You use them on need basis, not expecting a whole lot from them. You pray that they do not come in exacerbate a bad situation. Their worth is a trade for a second round pick plus a player who wants change of teams.

You need the bench to complement the team more than being supplemental. By this I mean you do not want the bench to be the exact duplicate of the starters (it is almost impossible) but you want them have talents and skills and specialties in areas the starters lack. For example, the bench can bring in players who are good three point shooters or play excellent defense. The objective is to have them change the game (hopefully in your favor). Knowing their role and expectation, the bench usually plays their heart out to justify their need. Occasionally if they are playing well and winning you leave them in.
That will be experience for them because you may one day need them.

I am going to end here. This is food for a thought.
By the way what is the status of Turiaf and Sasha on their signing?

The Source,
"James Posey was a free agent last year looking for a home and a decent pay day. The Lakers decided to spend $30 million for 6 years on Luke Walton."

You do realize that those were from different pots of money, right? The only money available for Posey was the MLE, which was used for FIsher. The Lakers were already over the cap, which is why they re-signed Walton. They didn't really have a choice. They might have been able to get him for a little cheaper, but not much. Based on how he had done that season, he was going to get other offers that were not far from what the Lakers gave him.

AK,

Gift protocol is similar to those of Hobbits and their birthday parties, where they give gifts to the attendees instead of receiving them. Bottom line--travel expenses, accomodation, and nothing below$500 for anyone in their right mind to show up.

Here's hoping Rick Fox shows up to crash the wedding!

I'd have liked to see that rather than us jumping the gun and paying him (Luke) his "market worth."

OH, NO!

NOW THEY'RE SAYING SHAQ & KOBE SHARE A SIMILAR LOVE!

IS THERE NO GOD?

SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING!

I wonder when Rick Fox will be able to stop laughing about the nuptials.....He's probably thinking that Christie deserved a better beating in the tunnels. BTW, who got the best of that fight anyway?

farmar, kobe, ariza, pau and bynum as your starting line? seems a little lacking in perimiter game. only jf and kb could make a three, and niether is really deadly all the time from out there. teams could just pack the middle and we'ld just be mediocre against them.

fish should stay starting for now in my opinion.. and/or start sasha on the 2 and kobe on the 3. df, sasha, kobe, pau, bynum would be a fairly sinister amount of power out the gate.

i'm curious to see what sort of crazy rotation schemes come out of this roster, if the lukomirian reign of mediocrity will stay at small forward this season, if lo can really handle the one.

Once a Laker, always a Laker...even after the lack of testicular fortitude becomes irreversible and ultimately fatal.

Doug Christie did give the Lakers ONE season of consistant effort - playinig over his head as the teams' primary scorer, no less. Needless to say, we weren't very good that year.

But the Christie days ultimately led to a lottery pick - one of only 3 in our history - and that pick became George Lynch, who also played hard, and once his contract was jettisoned, helped pave the way for the O'Neal signing and subsequent success.

So, then, to Doug - thanks for the memories...
And, please, for your own sake...
Grow a new pair!

Respectfully,
HIGH CHEESE

CORRECTION:

Did I really say that lottery pick became George Lynch? Oops - it's late, and my sun-downer-syndrome is kickin' in...

That particular pick actually became Eddie Jones.

Many apologies,
HIGH CHEESE

I think you are wrong, and Source is right. Restrict free agent's salary counts against cap too. So, as far as cap implication goes, it does not matter if Lakers signed Posey or Walton in 2007. They chose to give that kind money to someone like Walton, but not to posey. That just shows how good a GM Micth really is. LA media needs to quite hyping this guy because Gasol came here for nothing. Everyone talks about how great a job he has done. Doesn't anyone remember how many mistakes he has made in last four years?

Charles,

Can you say "Forrest Griffin; Light Heavyweight Champion of the World!"

What a fight!

I just read the "color controversy" posts on the previous thread, and I have a few questions for the blog:

What about some purple players? I hear they're tenacious defenders.

Or maybe some blue players? Those guys jump out of the gym!

Or, instead of a roster made up entirely of solids, what about signing a couple of "prints?" You know, a plaid power forward, or a paisley point guard? Maybe even a couple of tasteful animal prints coming off the bench?

Anything but GREEN...those guys suck.

Respectfully,
HIGH CHEESE

Should they really be publicizing a 13th wedding? Isn't that some sort of bad luck or something?

Well, Doug Christie does command greater respect for his character and integrity compared to say, kobee, who cheated on his wife.

Doug Christie also won the title instead of the lakers in 2002 - lakers only got by christie with illegal fixing by the refs (and the league)!

The SUNS would welcome a playa of Doug Christie's honor and talent!

Besides, we love him because he kicked rock fox's behind in the tunnel brawl!

This is what makes me upset...............

If it was'nt for that pau trade last year.........THE FRONT OFFICE gets an (F).

They over shot the gun when signing luke instead of waiting it out to see what he is worth an sign him to a much lesser contract........like their doing with SASHA an RONNY.
luke is in same boat as........
kwame
smush
brian cook......soon to be EX nba players........if lakers hadn't signed him.......he would be out the league are buried deep on somebodies bench.......my personal opinion.
An now we dont have enough money to sign 2 of the main players on the bench mob.........

RONNY with his energy an his defense........did you guy's know he is 3rd in the league in block shots per minute.......an he was playing the 5 when he really is a 4.

SASHA one of the better catch a shoot guy in the league.....if he mimic his game after REG MILLER.......RAY ALLEN.....RIP HAMILTON......Running off of screens an back doors.......he could really help us.

INSTEAD OF SIGNING PLAYERS LET'S DO SOME SIGN AN TRADE.......PLAYERS I LIKE

MIKE MILLER
JOSH SMITH
JR SMITH...........For lamar-vlad -luke........ARIZA-DREW......are next for pay-days.lets trade players to get rid of some of these bone-head contracts.

ONE MORE THING BEFORE I GO..........

luke
smush
kwame
brian cook........were getting heavy min by pj.

Every team has at least 1-2 bad contract on their squad........
But are coach seems to find playing time for such players......this is why pj get's no respect from me.

9 RINGS........BULLSHIIIIIIIIII,THAT'S OLD NEWS (HISTORY).
I LIVE FOR THE HERE AN NOW......SHOW ME 10.
He will never reach 10 if he continue to play players like luke-smush-kwame-cook.......over-DREW-RONNY-ARIZA-VLAD.......well maybe not vlad.......but i'll take vlad over luke an cook anyday.

He deserved to get his butt kicked by Rick Fox. 13 Times? Seriously?13? What a nut bag. Now, I'm going to go to youtube to watch him get his behind kicked by Mr.Fox, because that fight will never get old.

Let me get this straight, luke gets about 5mil a year and we offer Sasha 2.6 for 1 year, something is wrong with this picture. He should leave, thats just like a slap in the face!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone remember the Christie uncut porn flick ?

Elle,

What's so annoying is the pretension of it all.

Personally, I'm more down to trust someone who doesn't shout what they've found.

Or have a festival everytime they make a commitment.

The larger (or more frequent) the wedding, the more cause there is for concern, as far as I can see.

People who have true peace in their heart feel no need to convince other people that they are at peace.

GO LAKERS!

I'm one of those fans that thinks the Lakers had a terrific season. I'm curious - if the roster remains essentially the same next season, how many will continue with doom and gloom? How many will relentlessly bag on Luke and Vlad and L.O. and P.J. and others? I can understand it from the trolls becuase they're just trying to be annoying. It's harder to understand the motivation from fans. Our team succeeded to an extent that few expected. They went all the way to the finals and lost to a very good team. We're going to have our starting center back next season, plenty of position adjustments, etc., etc.. I won't keep going on about the roster because it's just the same stuff that's been posted time and again but it just kind of blows my mind how much trash talking against our own guys goes on here.

In fairness, I have to give credit to those who keep the faith and keep it positive. Those that complain relentlessly are in the minority... and I'm not talking about those that are simply looking for trades or upgrades that make sense. I'm talking about the diatribes, the name-calling, the cheap shots, the hating. I've noticed it especially in game threads... is this the joy you guys get out of basketball?

I'm serious here. To all the complainers and haters - what happiness do you take from the game? Did you NOT think this season rocked? Were you NOT totally into it? Are you looking forward to the upcoming season because you dig the game or is it just another excuse to spew? Just wondering.

Good Afternoon Family!

Just wanted to send out a link for all of our GMs who want to start shaping the team for the next few years.

From the video you can see DC got more punches into Rick Fox's head. That fight was won by DC. I appreciate all RF has done for Lakers but he lost the fight.

Who knows how it would turn out without all the bodies in between to break up fight. I can't say one way or the other how the out come would turn out just one on one.

I am not a hater but I really believe PJ has held this team from playing to its full potential. Of the players you mentioned I supported all of them but a lesser extent LW.
Luke can obviously play better than he has but my problem is when he is off PJ continues to overuse him which is detrimental to the team.

The talent is there as evidenced by getting to the finals which is more a testament to the quality of our players instead of the quality of the coach.

The happiness I get is watching our team succeed and the dislike is knowing they could have done better if not held back by PJ.

Therein lies the reason to post as to say what I feel and see as opposed to idol worship and hope things get better. It is not hate but opinion and I am entitled to mine whether you or anyone else disagrees with it. No hate just opinions.
Peace

nicksi,
"I think you are wrong, and Source is right. Restrict free agent's salary counts against cap too. So, as far as cap implication goes, it does not matter if Lakers signed Posey or Walton in 2007"

No - when a team is signing it's own free agent, they can go above the salary cap. That is why the Lakers are able to re-sign Vujacic and Turiaf this off-season. They are way above the cap, but those are their own players, so they can still do it. THe same situation applied last off-season. If the Lakers had not signed Luke, they would have had to sign someone with the veteran's minimum to fill that spot on the roster, because the MLE was used for FIsher. If you Google "NBA Salary Cap" there are a number of sites that explain all the details. Wikipedia does a decent job:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NBA_Salary_Cap

SO AK, how's the weight-loss plan going?

Jon K: NO, I AM NOT having a crisis of faith. You overstep your boundaries when you speak for me, bro.

Wolf: Stop overspiritualizing. I'm cool. Crazy is crazy. When you make your husband's female front office workers sign a contract stating that they are not allowed to look at him, THAT'S CRAZY!

Dave M is so on the nut with his take of these blogs, the bandwagons, etc. In essence there are true fans and there are bandwagon types, there are true bloggers, who make great points in their blog entries, and there is the blog scum. As long as a person knows who they are and admit it, that is a starting point. Bandwagon people probably bought Pierce jerseys, after game 2. True bloggers, are educated and inspirational. They take the time to volley topics, and do so logically. The scum, well, that's "let's go c's", and if it weren't for the 1st amendment his posts should be filtered out. But this is the time of "shock" media...(thank you, Howard Stern), and unfortunately we have to read past his junk. Luckily he is so stupid that he uses only a few letters in a sentence run. Probably because he is typing with one hand while his other one is polishing his own personal "trophy", the one in his celtic boxers. Things will change. There will be a day when we win with Kobe, and there will come the day when we will only have memories of those great moments that were always judged to be "well, he's never going to be thought of as better than MJ". Me, I don't care. I think it's all good basketball. For the most part, the seaon was a success. Ask the celtics who they thought they would be playing in the finals at the start of last year, and the Lakers probably would have come in behind the Okie Dokies and the Portland Oden's. I would take Bynum as he is now over Oden as he is now. If both healthy, Oden may have shown some game. Bynum when healthy did show he has game. At least we have the front office back in line. If Jim Buss starts trying to take over again, someone take him to the track. Kobe, buy him a racehorse for his birthday. Everyone have a good last few hours of this holiday weekend, and let's try to stay civil and reasonable. (myself included)...

JALF,

In my mind Rick won, just because he had the nerve to wait for him in the tunnel.

Elle,

HIGH CHEESE & COMPTON,

Good takes on the Staples’ politically incorrect posts. What’s funny is that I never realized that the Celtics had an all-black team until the announcers told me that and never once thought that the Lakers problems was too many Euros – or white Euros. LOL.

Tom

JustaLakerFan - I wouldn't have lumped you in with those I was referencing just as I don't have a problem with honest criticism. Also, like you, I'm not into blind idol worship, or idol worship of any kind for that matter. At any rate - perhaps the point of my rant wasn't clear... wouldn't be the first time, haha. Peace back.

dave m,

Great post. The problem with most disgruntled fans is that they are afraid of being optimistic because of the possibility of being disappointed. As a result, they prefer to undervalue the team and its players and their expectations. It’s a philosophy that their parents and life has taught them is the safe way to go. In fact, they would probably be singing the same tune even if we had won the championship.

You wonder why these fans don’t look at our history, the fact that we have the best coach and player in the game, the best young center, and the deepest roster in the league and decide to expect the best and not to fall into the loser mentality that nothing but bad is going to happen. They are in effect cheating themselves of the joy and elation that the rest of us were able to enjoy in this wondrous and unmatchable season of success.

Had these disgruntled Lakers fans been fans of the Boston Celtics, they would have jumped off the bandwagon 10 years ago and then jumped back on this year. They would have had their hearts and hopes brutally squashed for over two decades, expecting to miss the playoffs, lose in the lottery, and have their key first round pick overdose on cocaine. It’s hard to blame Celtic fans for being bandwagon fans considering their history.

But to those Lakers fans who are still angry and disappointed that we did not win it all this year, you do NOT have the excuse of franchise failure or impotency to excuse your lack of faith and belief in this team. Wake up and start smelling the roses and loving this Lakers team and what they have accomplished this year and what they are going to achieve over the next decade. You are lucky and blessed to be fans of the Lakers. How about showing some of that appreciation and gratitude by supporting rather than ripping your team? Trust me, it hurts to see our compadres in fandom not able to enjoy what is going to be over the next 10 years the greatest dynasty in the history of the Lakers.

Tom

humanomaly,

“Luckily he is so stupid that he uses only a few letters in a sentence run. Probably because he is typing with one hand while his other one is polishing his own personal "trophy", the one in his celtic boxers.”

Great comment about the blog scum. LMAO. Remember: don’t shake hands with any blog scum. LOL.

Tom

Dave M.

I agree with you that the Lakers succeeded beyond expectation and that it was an awsome year to be a Laker fan.

That doesn't change the fact that Luke can't shoot, can't jump, can't finish, and is only able to guard slow players.

But he sure does throw some nice passes....occasionally.
