The good news: We're collecting ALL of your exit interview copy

June 19, 2008 |  9:31 am

The bad news: That keeps us away from the computer, which could mean slow updates. We'll let the mothership know, but just to warn you.

So sometime today the interviews with the Laker players will be up? SWEET....I really want to know what was discussed.

Good morning, Laker Nation.

Hey, AK/BK, I have a question for you two.

What do you guys think is the WORST way to discuss future changes in the Lakers lineup for 2009?

GO LAKERS!

GO LAKERS!!

Lakers pride all the way. I'm proud of the Lakers and how far they've came this year. Next year, I'm expecting to see domination and lots of intensity. I'm also expecting another intense battle in the Western Conference with so many other good young teams duking it out. It's going to be exciting!!

Not sure what that means, but since both of you are doing it, I have this image in my head of you guys being buried with 150 reems of paper and sifting through those documents to the wee hours of the morning.

And, just as I did last season, I'll have the exit interview outtakes up and running as soon as I can.

Get rid of vlad rad walton, newble, mihm, get artest and kwame brown and the dream signin baron davis, trade farmar

Have Radmanovic, Vujacic, and Fish shoot threes all summer long and take supplements for iron nerves....The kind of three-point shooting with minimum setup time, split second screen and swosh....

Have Fish, Luke, Ramanovic and Sasha shoot threes all summer long, quick stop, quick setup, pullup three. And let them time supplements for iron nerves.

(A+B)K

Ok so what happens during the offseason?do you guys take a month or two off..?does this blog shut down temporarily?

So I say again Fire, have you come to the good side of the force?

I know it can be done. You only have to believe.

Posted by: "Pig" Miller

Always have been, always will be. Only you, have to believe me. Just got a little carried away with having a little fun with you guys during the regular season (my bad). Didn't you find it strange that I was around here the whole season and still here. I don't care about the suns, now the spurs and the c's, those 2 teams I can't stand.

Jon K. -

How about Mitch telling a player "How many boxes do you think that you're going to need? I know of a fantastic moving service here..."

I just like saying Lukamir Waltmanovich –

That nick name was a stroke of genius. Was that a Kam Bros original? If it was I'd like to be on the Kam Bros BW for that alone, never mind everything else they do.

Mmaba... Add me to the KamBros bandwagon

Hey u guys... As much as this season hurt like hell forst losing to them with a 30 point turnaround... Then getting our booties handed to us in a final deciding game...

I've been staying away jus cause it's been so sad lately... n everybody is critiquing like this was the end of the world... Trade this do this do that... U know wat I mean?? It's stupid...

We didn't have post presence as much cause Bynum wasn't there... Come on people... First of all did we really expect this team to make it this far?? NO... In the beg of the season... Everyone was like hey we're gonna loose.. this n that... there was a handful of people taht had faith... n we all stuck around... Personally i'm proud of this team... it was a very quick turnaround from last season...

N we'll be here again... Have a great summer fellow bloggers... Take care... See ya'll next season...

GO LAKERS!!!

Please give Lamar a hearty "goodbye" from all of us at the Lakers Blog.

I'm sick with Plashke and Simers.

Were there NO Laker fans on hand to welcome their Lakers back to L.A.? Am I mistaken? KCal-9 was there, but they didn't show or get interviews with fans. Is there because there were none? If that's the case, that's a telling story about the character of Laker fans.

What is the proper etiquette?

Do you thank your blog hosts?

Or do they thank you?

Were there NO Laker fans on hand to welcome their Lakers back to L.A.? Am I mistaken? KCal-9 was there, but they didn't show or get interviews with fans. Is there because there were none? If that's the case, that's a telling story about the character of Laker fans.

I love the post interview interviews...they tell you so much about a player.

Last year Cookie said "I don't need to work on anything in the summer, I just needed more playing time". That says a lot about his attitude and aproach to the game. Now he is gone.

Were there NO Laker fans on hand to welcome their Lakers back to L.A.? Am I mistaken? KCal-9 was there, but they didn't show or get interviews with fans. Is there because there were none? If that's the case, that's a telling story about the character of Laker fans.

BEAT L.A.!

Generic_one! So good of you to make an off-season appearance. If you're here for the next couple of months, maybe I won't go on hiatus. It's good to have you, exhelodrvr, and The D present and accounted for to make this (much-shorter-than-last-year's) off-season fly right by.

I'm really not looking for the endless stream of trade posts in which we offer up Coby Karl for Shawn Marion.

to that blogger who thinks people like me are morons and/or idiots for wanting Nine Rings to go, a few words.
First I don't call you names for wanting to keep a coach who has been universally ridiculed by nearly every sportswriter across the nation. If you like, I'll post the links from these experts (which you are not) that range from PJ's ineptness at adjustments to being "Out Zenned" by Doc Rivers
I for one have, realized that PJ was a fraud after the Detroit series, when the network miked Detroit's huddle and coach Larry Brown made those famous remarks that Nine Rings wouldn't adjust to what his team was doing. Fast Forward to this year's finals and you can only admit that Phil is a one dimensional coach that is so arrogant and set in his ways that he can't see the forest for the trees.
Add to that he couldn't manage the Shaq Kobe feud, where he did the cardinal sin of taking sides, his tell-all book that further destroyed Kobe's character, and finally failing to prepare his team for this years Finals, check that he prepared his team to fail, the reality of the fact that the game has passed him by is unquestionable.
But I am sure you can counter with "Phil Jackson has nine rings", but that doesn't pull any more weight, it didn't stop Doc or the Celtics did it? It didn't make them shudder to think that they were going up against the mastermind (ha) of Phil Jackson's coaching ability. they just played their style knowing Nine Rings wouldn't do anything to stop them.
Many bloggers throughout the season bitched and moaned that we didn't defend the 3 point line and that we got abused by teams like Sacramento and Portland or that Luke Walton did not have game, and his failure to adjust in-game, and his refusal to play defensive minded players.
So many facts that people like you ignore. "Yeah but he has nine rings, he has nine rings. Well guess what, Nine Rings will always be known as Nine Rings, because this game has passed him by.
The NBA is so competitive, each year teams get stronger and stronger, you know San Antonio will get a key player, you know New Orleans will be even better, Portland is just going to be a monster, Utah will improve, and Houston will be tough.
The scary part about those teams is they play defense, something that is an after-thought to Phil Jackson. What, you think all of a sudden Nine Rings is going to become a great defensive coach.
The Lakers were lucky that the stars were aligned just right to get them to the Finals. But when the stars faded and the Lakers needed real coaching, Phil failed them, plain and simple. Sometimes you don't get what you paid for.

Good Morning Charles--Good Morning Everyone....

Well it was an outstanding season--what a great ride---of course the finals could have been a little better, but like all of the more intelligent TRUE LAKER FANS have said, I am extremely proud of this team and this season and enjoyed it as much as any past season...

Winning the West as the top seed with every play off team with above 50 wins was nothing short of excellent in my book...

AND, more importantly, our future looks blindingly bright indeed...

Now the talk all summer will be of trade senarios with everything from reasonable to out right absurd---but that's all part of the fun...

I really don't think sweeping changes be made, but improvements should definitly be pursued...

Lamar's and his contract should be a major bargining chip, but should only be used if the advantage is clearly there...and patience may be the key, ala Kwame

Pau should not be on the trade blocks and again only be considered if there is some mind blowing deal out there...ditto with Kobe and Bynum (no sheet Sherlock)...

Sasha and Ronny should be brought back and I hope that happens...

I hope that Koby Carl and Mbenga return as well...I think Famar will become better and better and I hope he doesn't get traded...Mihm may have to be some trade fodder...

Two of our biggest liabilities also have extremely bad and undesirable contracts that will be all but viturally impossible to move....If Mitch can pull off a trade involving Puke and or Rad he will be nothing short of a genius or the greatest used car salesman in history...

What I really would like to see, and indeed, think has a good chance of happening is the Lakers attracting a big free agent for less than market value---we need another Rick Fox type signing...Elton Brand, Shawn Marrion, Baron Davis, Okafor, Igoudala etc....

The bottom line?.....wait for it....The New Lakers Dynasty has begun with this season and all the accomplishments thereof indeed... HUZAH !!!

AS ALWAYS, AS EVER, STILL YET ANOTHER GREAT DAY TO BE A LAKER FAN !!!

GO LAKERS !!!

Fire32,

Welcome to Laker Nation, then.

AK/BK,

Can hardly wait for the exit interviews.

GO LAKERS!

I"m standing by my last post for all good reasons for optimism next year.

I'm also standing by what I have been calling for for the last year--It's time to trade LO. I've always liked him, but I just don't think he's got what it takes mentally to be a champion. Not only that, but we can't afford hi s salary, and he can't shoot well enough to be a 3 anyway. Let's bring in Artest and watch him lock up PP next year. There are lots of other great free agents out there as well.

Congratulations Celtics, you did deserve this championship. I like you better than any of the other Celtic championship teams.

Enjoy it while yo can, because you are 1 AND DONE!!!

No worries AK. We'll wait anxiously lol.

Anomalous, the K Bros keep the blog pumping all year round...but of course it gets slow in the coming months. But when there are news, they do a good job of putting it on.

Go Lakers!

Ssshhhh - i think i can hear the boston celtics 'rolling rally' victory parade. . . i hear lamar is the grand marshal. . .

still hot!!

I feel that the Lakers roster shouldn’t change much. We have a good team at the core and a young bench, after all, we did make it to the Finals with a team that was not only one of the youngest in the league, but one that has suffered through a ton of injuries and has not played together for a complete year.

We just need a few tweaking, a few reinforcements, and a good summer to not only commit on strengthening and conditioning, but learning how to play mindblowing defense and work up all the frustrations of losing in the Finals and translate that experience into wins next season.

I think it’d do wonders for Gasol to add on a few pounds of muscles, go through whatever regimen Andrew went through, that way he won’t have players pushing him around and can muscle his way and help the Lakers’ “towers” around the paint. He should work on his midrange shot and sky hook, and definitely commit to finishing strong and aggressive at the rim, no more nice flips to the basket, that’s just lazy.

Odom, just needs to finish better at the rim, remain focused for an entire game, and not commit silly fouls (like whenever losing a rebound, he always tries to “steal” it back and that usually ends up in fouls).

Kobe, just needs to be Kobe. Heal up, get his pinky operated on, rest up and channel all his aggression from losing in the Finals against the other teams next year. Kobe should probably work with Gasol/Odom/Bynum together to plan out ways of facilitating with each other, confusing the defense and really learn to help each other out.

The Lakers Bench Mob: Jordan Farmar, Sasha Vujacic, Ronny Turiaf, and Trevor Ariza. All hardworking, lovable players that have lots of potential. We saw the flashes of brilliance with Jordan’s speed, Sasha’s hot/not so hot Machine shooting, Ronny’s ability to be the backup center when Pau was injured, and Trevor’s athleticism that makes him a capable defender (before he was injured). I’m optimistic that if Jordan and Sasha keep being the gym rats Kobe praises them to be, Jordan will be a reliable young point guard (strenghtening) and Sasha will be consistent shooter and pesky defender (strengthening training). Ronny just needs to control his penchant for being a little to zealous and falling for the fakes which leads to fouls. Ariza should work on his midrange shooting and go through strengthening training.

I really like this Lakers team as is, but I’d say the only changes, or partings we need to commit to would be Luke, Vladi, and Chris Mimh. I like them, but I don’t see where we’re going with them.

Keep Coby Karl, I see a lot of potential in him. It’s too bad we likely won’t be seeing DJ or Ira anymore, but Phil just didn’t seem to want to use either of them much in the playoffs.

I haven't posted to this blog in months, but as a Laker fan who goes back to the beginning ( and even slightly before ), I just wanted to offer my condolences to everyone. It is tough to lose in the finals, but it sure beats not making it out of the first round. At least we are back where we belong, being recognized as one of the teams who are true contenders. I have seen them all. The greatest moment was the first championship in 1972, while the worst defeat is always the last one. Hang in there guys and gals, we had a great run while it lasted.

Roger

Hey, AK & BK.
Thanks a lot for giving us this forum to cheer, support, vent, rant, etc. for our favorite purple and gold Lakeshow. It has been an enjoyable season.

Cheers to you both!

I don't know why more people aren't talking about this, I can't find it in any media but,...

How lame was KG during his Michelle Tafoya interview!?!

One of the dumb highlights, he said: "anything's possible...ANYTHING"S POSSIBBBLLLLE!". He keeps saying "possible" until his voice dies out. wow.

Then he curses on live TV. And then. And then....he says to Michelle Tafoya,...

"Michelle, you look good tonight, girl! You look good!"

KG hitting on the interviewer. wow.

You can see it for yourself on youtube...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiKf7aq328M

We will be ready for next easone nba be very affraid:)

Towards the end of the regular season, my assessment was that this post-season was about gaining experience but that next year would be when the Lakers were going to make a real run at it. Obviously, I was happy to be wrong about their chances this year and was upset, just like everyone else, that they got to the dance but came up short.

My reasoning why next year would be the real beginning of the run, was built around a couple of factors. The most obvious thing is the continued development of the younger players and the face they've now gained some valuable playoff experience. But more importantly, it's that now the front office has a whole off-season to make the smart moves necessary to solidify this team as a Championship contender. Now that they see that they have 90% of the pieces, it's a lot easier to go out and fill in those very specific holes.

Boston's front office had that mindset from the moment they made all their big moves last year. Since they knew that anything less than a championship would be a disappointment and that, suddenly, they had a team that was a contender, they could look at adding free agents (who, also, were looking to go to a team just like them) to complete the puzzle. So they sign guys like House, Posey, Cassell and Brown.

The Lakers didn't sign any free agents like that, b/c neither they nor the free agents knew they were going to make the run. Now they do. So, now they need to go out and fill those role player holes with smart veteran guys with very specific skillsets. Hopefully, there are those free agents floating around out there that see the Lakers as a team they could potentially grab a ring or two with and will be willing to sign for less.

I just read Lukes exit interview, he is in as much denial about his baasketball game as Phil is about his coaching!

P.S Like Father Like Son! Two Clowns!

3 wishes . . . 1) fire lamar, 2) fire lamar, 3) fire lamar

the odom experiment failed 4 years ago. . .

Marty,
"Coby Karl for Shawn Marion."

You're joking, right? Why would they do that?

Do You See What I See,

So are you saying that Phil is one of those coaches that keeps both teams in the game? I agree, Who knows, we might of had a hard nose defensive player already. Newble, but I guess we never got the chance to find out. As of right now what makes us think that if a known defensive player signs with the Lakers, he'll get playing time? We as fans see Phil's stubborn ways, I'm sure players around the league do too. Phil could ask for better players, but what good does it do if he doesn't play them. I bet Newble regrets not signing with Clevland.

Change your ways Phil or go extinct, just like the dinosaurs did when they weren't able to adapt to the changing world.

Floyd,

"If Mitch can pull off a trade involving Puke and or Rad he will be nothing short of a genius or the greatest used car salesman in history"

That was funny post Floyd, you're never short of puke's jokes. If Mitch can move those two, find ways to retain the rest through salary negotiations, I think that is equivalent of Championship parade. However, as we speak there are two levels of salaries that keeps on going up

On the high level: Kobe, Pau, Odom and eventually Bynum before July 9th. As forecasted by LakerTom about 80m for 5 years.

On the mid level: we have two categories namely: immovable - Vladrad, Puke and Mihm, they're white elephants that need a high calibre salesman like Bill Clinton to pitch their values to recyclers. Then, we have two movable players who announced that they wanted to be Laker for life - Trevor Ariza and Sasha Vujacic. Ariza opted out of the 3.9m will go for open market, the kid has not proven anything, he just came from injury! Spurs considering to get Sasha for MLE, aha he guarantees Lakers victory while he joins the Spurs! If these two guys would like to become Laker for life then remove those agents and accept $4m flat. w/ year to year renewal excalating negotiation of at 25% increase?

Then we have the unpredictable. Ron Turiaf, I assume he would go with what Lakers will give him somewhere 2M. They saved his life. Farmar is receiving only 1m but dreaming big as well that he is worth 5-7M before the end of his 3rd year with the Lakers. Hoopsworld is projecting that when everything comes into counting of all the pennies, Lakers will cost them about 90M next season. Definitely, Dr. Buss said I'm not willing to pay that much 20M luxury taxes, don't just tweak it, overhaul it. haha he got a tiny cajones when it comes to spending.

Therefore, we really don't need any kind of changes as long as ALL of them need to renegotiate their fat salaries and bring them within the luxury tax limit which is about 70M or at least 75M as maximum threshold, Jerry Buss has to forego some overseas trips with his foreign dates. lol!

chuck23 / all - where can i review the exit interview? thank you.

Doo You,

Jackson managed to get one of the youngest teams in the league to the finals, and within 8 points of winning the title. This in spite of the off-season turmoil, the season-ending injury to the anchor of the defense (made worse by the fact that it wasn't thought to be season-ending), losing Ariza, the top perimeter defender, for half the season, still unhealed injuries to Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, the slowest set of point guards in the league, very inconsistent play from Odom, Vlad, Walton, and Vujacic. He very effectively worked Gasol into the system, managed to lead the team to the best record in the West, beat HOF coaches Sloan and Popovich.

And teh experts you refer to almost unanimously picked the Lakers. But the problem couldn't be that the Celtics were just a better team, with home court advantage, with more options at the disposal of the coach, much more veteran, and that the Lakers got a mediocre series from Kobe, and very inconcistent play from everybody else. No, it couldn't be that the experts gave too much weight to the Celtics first two series; it must be Jackson's fault

ajax,

Until game 6, I had only known KG to be an upright and outstanding role model type. As a result, I've always liked him as a player... obviously in snuffing the Lakers and going to the Celts, I'm no fan of KG any longer...

But his behavior during and after game 6 was enough to make me sick.

There's nothing wrong with being happy... or even happier than happy at winning an NBA title. MJ cried and hugged the tropy when he won it in LA, but he was never distasteful. In fact, I can't remember a more distasteful display than the one KG put on during/after game 6.

It will be fun seeing them put back in their proper place next season. It will either be by us, or one of their other EC rivals.

Hey all - I missed the "good morning's" today, but y'all KNOW my heart was there for you!!!

Mamba24 - 2nd request - please put me on the "K-Bros" bandwagon - and thanks to you guys for all you do and continue to do to give us our FIX of all things purple & gold!

I'm really looking forward to the exit interviews. I'm interested in seeing the state of mind of some of these guys, and to see just how focused they'll be over the summer to improve.

Does anyone have a link to the post-game interview of Kobe (was there even one)?? I was so upset I couldn't stand to watch the outpouring of love for the green from all the idiot announcers & commentators, not to mention the stupid, ugly Lepper-cons themselves.....uuggghhhh. So I missed most of what our guys said - although I'm sure I have a pretty good idea.... Anyhoo - I'd be much obliged!

I would love to think that Mitch will again employ his mastermind abilities over the summer. He's pulled off some of the game's best trades and deals (HUGE understatement there!), so here's hoping he's got a few things still up his sleeve to make this great team even better. A tweak here, an adjustment there, and this team will strike fear into the NBA next year & for years to come.

LOVE this game - LOVE this blog - KEEP THE FAITH!! We are coming back stronger, faster & ready to kick @$$$!!!!

can I get a vote on a Meadowlark Lemon for Lamar Odom trade. . .

Do you see what I see,

First of all, those same "sports Writers" who you seem to think matter (why I dont know, see Vescey, Simers, Plashke, Skip Bayless etc to know that they are as dumb as anyone) were saying that PJ was doing the best coaching job of his career jus a few weeks ago. So now you are going to say that he sudenly doesnt know what hes doing? Seems pretty wishy washy to me.

Furthermore Doc Rivers DID NOT OUT COACH Phil Jackson, Doc Rivers is a HORRIBLE COACH, watch film of the series, Pierce and KG hardly even listen to him, in one play I saw Pierce tell him NO when Doc called out a play. The reason they won was having 3 haqll of famers and defense and that is due to Tom Thibodeao (sp). Doc River had NOTHING to do with Boston's success, in fact the media in Boston was worried that he would blow it and the brilliant talent he had on his team would be overshadowed by his horrible coaching.

But hey dont let the facts get in the way of your delusions.

lay off Lamar. Without him we would not have been in the Finals.

This is a full team meltdown with the Celtics holing the blow torch. We were not ready yet.

This year's Celtics formula is an anomaly. Think showtime Lakers, Shaq/Kobe Lakers and MJ Bulls. They lost, they tweeked, refined, learned, worked hard...that makes a Dynasty. This Laker team will be one. We need the Mychael Thompson, McAdoo, Tony Kukoc, Ron Harper, kind of addtions. But Laker management, be on the look out for the Nick Van Excels...boot em if they show signs of lack of dedication.

justanothermambafan -- it's on espn.com

Dying to hear Lamar's exit interview. BTW...did Vlad, Lamar or Luke get caught chanting "Cancun! Cancun!" instead of "Lakers! Lakers!" for their final postgame huddle of the year. I hope so. :o)

Luke/Vlad/Lamar: The Triangle of Mediocrity. IT MUST BE SEVERED!

BTW...Mamba, put me on the K-Bros "Nuthin But Love" Bandwagon (or whatever it's called). On top of everything they do for us, not ONCE have they labeled me a stark raving lunatic for posting all those prayers during the playoffs. \o/
