This oughta make tonight's dinner a truly festive shindig

May 2, 2008 |  7:36 pm

Guess who's picking up tonight's check (as voted by the Los Angeles Lakers)?  Your NBA MVP, Kobe Bryant (as voted by the media)!

As I suspected would be the case for a while, the hardware will be resting in Newport Beach at some point next week.  A well deserved honor (I would have voted for him and I'm pretty sure BK agreed) in what many (myself included) feel is both a "career" and career-defining season for The Mamba.  The exact votes aren't available yet and I'm suspecting the margin was reasonably tight --now that the favorable results seem secure, you can all safely admit Chris Paul had one hell of a season -- but the bulk went to The New Jack Bauer.  To say the least, it's been a crazy, fantastic ride for the Purple and Gold.

Congrats to Kobe and the Laker organization.

toastin' KBB the MVP

suh weet!

Is it wrong that I'm ecstatic about the ATL win?

Go Lakers!

Finally! Congratulations #24

Faith,

It's not wrong at all. But I'm happy more because the Celts play has been disgraceful than because of hatred of the Celtics. I'm too young to have a natural hatred for Boston.

Xodus,

You're right. They have definitely been punks.

I'm too young too, but I think Celtic hate transcends...especially considering I'm a big fan of Coop lol.

The Boston Celtics are SOO overrated!

CONGRATULATIONS TO KOBE BEAN BRYANT AKA THE MAMBA!!!!

I have been a Lakers fan for 19 years. This is the next best thing to a championship!

Kobe '07-08 MVP!!!
Lakers Forever!!!

Kobe, you deserved it.

I'm kind of relieved that Justanothermambafan, Charles and I didn't have to destroy New Orleans. We'll let global warming absorb that karma.

GO LAKERS!

Final Utah 113 Rockets 91.
Game on!

Congrats to you Kobe! Well deserved.

Now you get the chance to earn it.

Xodus--
"I'm too young to have a natural hatred for Boston. "

1) You are never too young to have a hatred for the Celtics. It's genetic. Nature dictates you cannot like both franchises.

2) If that gene for some unknown reason is indeed recessive, you'll soon learn how. Trust me.

Double jeopardy for Beantown this Sunday.
Kasmir (a.k.a. the Red Sox killer) will make his first start of the season for Tampa Bay and game 7 for the GreenieWeenies.
I could see a senario where no bridge railing in Boston is safe from jumping fans.......

No way Baby.

I feel ecstatic TOOO!!!

I guess a congrats to New Orleans is in order too.

Only one large scale destruction this decade so far!

Kobe got his at last. Now all Lakers to get theirs!!!
08 champions!
Lets finish this.

Faith.

The first seed will play 7th game against the 16th seed of the playoffs who were below .500 during the season. I don't know Faith, I like the Celtics to win on Sunday.

We want them to struggle more but ultimately, there is still unfinished business against Celtics. One is PJ vs. Red A. Second, KG snubbed the Lakers; Third, Danny Ainge, he's the devil out there. Lakers have been humiliated by Celtics for so many years going back to Russel years, we're still way way behind in number of Championships. A true Laker fan anticipates this match up, even the dead ones will rise to witness this rare event.

Congrats Kobe!!

Congrats The Los Angeles Lakers!!

Can't wait for the game on Sunday.

Congrats to my man, Kobe! You deserve it!

Congrats to the Lakers!

Now let's go out and win a championship.

Go Lakers!

EastCoastJessie-

I'm not from Boston but still live in enemy territory. Just start driving North, and when you think you've reached the end of the world, you're only another 3 hours or so away.
(Think of a rather famous horror writer and you'll have the right city.)

Been to that house in Bangor, nice gargoyles.

This is the start of something beautiful... like 4 or 5 more of those... to go with the Finals MVP and the championship trophy, of course!

Go Lakers!

If you're a scratch golfer, teeing up at the gargoyles, you could hit a driver and probably a 4 or 5 wood and land the ball in my yard.
(5 minute walk.)

Wow. At last.

Time for Gunner to make his next to last apology...

..."next to last" because his final one will be when we win the Championship!

Congratulations to you oh Great one Kobe Bean, the 1st of many (should be 2nd or 3rd). Where the hell are you at now Kelly Dwyer? You need to go put a sock in it because you just got owned son.

Utah = sweep version 2.0 - BRING IT.

Great news!

Congratulations Kobe. Now it´s only one thing left... MVP NBA Finals. I´m sure he will. And Lakers will be celebrating with some little one-rings to enslave them all... teams. Man, gotta go easy with my MERPG, I´m starting to lose contact with real world.

See you Laker Nation!

justanothermambafan, I was thinking "LeBronz" due to the fact that Boston has shown some vulnerability maybe most were probably unaware of b4 this Hawks series. To me, they lack a killer instinct mentality, a mental type of toughness, of say, like that of San Anton...But then again, San Anton is truly in a class by themselves. Well, at least they have been the last couple years..Besides, "this" Boston team hasnt really been together and maybe ATL is simply exposing them for the possible "fraud" that they could be!! LOL

But yeah I agree, we shall see...

Congratulations to Kobe Bryant!!!

I wouldnt be surprised if at the presentation of the award, Kobe, Mamba himself, sheds a tear............

MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP MVP !!!

FINALLY. This is a long-overdue honor that's well deserved. Congratulations to Kobe. MVP!!
