The waiting game
Aside from the one to learn how Andrew Bynum's knee recovers from a date with the knife, there's also the wait to find out whether the Lakers will face New Orleans or San Antonio in the Western Conference Finals, a query answered this evening at 530 pm PDT (TNT). Do the Lakers have a preference as to an opponent? If you ask Phil Jackson, it's a coin flip involving a rust-covered quarter. Both squads offer a serious challenge, whether you're talking the less experienced but younger/quicker Hornets (whom the OC Register endorses as the preferable draw) or the savvy, current champeen Spurs (whom BK chose and AK would concur as the more ideal foe, despite having the always dangerous Manu Ginobli on their side). However those chips may fall, the Lakers will learn the results as a team. The same dinner-centric solidarity shown during the Houston-Utah first round Game 7 will be in effect at an unnamed eatery. The only difference is that this time around, Kobe Bryant will be able to display an increased cheeriness in ways that don't automatically involve his wallet (although the traditionalists will call for repetition).
It's hard to remember right about now, but there are events happening in the world more important than the pursuit of a Larry O'Brien. Ira Newble goes out of his way to remind people.
If you believe one explanation, the infamous "Eva in a Hornets jersey" was confiscated over a TV rights issue.
A rumored Melo/Camby for Jefferson/Marcus Williams/lottery pick swap. That Keith Van Horn fella sure is coveted. And until his situation is finally set in stone, Ron Ron will always be linked linked to the Lakers Lakers.

Good Morning Laker Nation – I Smell Title # 15!!!!!!!!

IT ‘s DESTINY
It’s a all over but the shouting and the good guys won
Heres to you LA Lakers this was a job well done.
You won the game and walked off with Class.
You saluted the losers after whipping their @ss
The entire NBA is now shaking with fear
That you played this well without Bynum being here.
Just another Manic Monday, Yes indeed Mr Fatty sir
if you really want manic, watch the Lakers get manic on the Spurs
Everyone is tiptoeing around an obvious reality
This team is for real, it’s a team of destiny
They say the whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts
If one Laker goes down we have another ready to start.
We have a coach who sits back when a timeout should be called
Causing the other team to become confused, panic & stall
We have a player who can shoot better with a broken shooting hand
Than the next best player in the entire NBA land
This same player with a back that’s in excruciating pain
Can still outplay any other NBA player in the game.
Another player comes straight from a daughter being operated on
Flies a 1000 miles and shoots the shot on which the game is won
Now you have these people all playing on the same side
And imbued with skill and spirit and Freakin La Laker Pride
Thank you Bench Mob for always coming thru
Thank You Lamar, DFish and Pau, as stars you really grew
Thank you Kobe, Phil and Mitch for getting the job done
Godd@mnit isn’t it obvious, The Freakin Lakers are the chosen ones

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING LAKER NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, I will try to post more often...once again...like you care, but in my feeble mind I like to think you do.
Their overconfidence is their weakness!!
Our faith in out friends is ours...if that's our only weakness then f*ck 'em all. The whole team is 1 big group of friends. I have a weird feeling that the Lakers are going to come out in the first game looking like a narcoleptic at a Barry Manilow concert. In the end though, I know we will win all home games and 1 roady soooo...Lakers in 5. I know, I know, most say 6 but I think that they have something to prove.I know we don't even know who yet, just felt like prognosticating, but I know the outcome already baby!!! NBA finals here we come!!! In my head I think to myself..."Who wants to see NO vs.Detroit?" Thats like putting whipped cream on a pile of sh*t! Why bother? BUT Lakers/Celtics...? Thats a sore peter...you just can't beat it!! Even Stern knows what side his bread is buttered on...
Inhale now as I blow smoke at the screen...
IT'S TIME TO WATCH THE LAKERS AND DRINK SOME BEER,
TOKE A BOWL AND SCREAM AND CHEER!!!!!!!! LAKERS 4 LIFE BABY!!!!!!

Just like the fellas, I'll be watching to see who the next victim will be. It'll be a little early for dinner, so I'll just enjoy what I hope is a good basketball game.
I'm still torn on who I want. Pick your poison, but like I said earlier, all else being equal if you want it to be legit you want to knock off the defending champs.
I'm so psyched! I hope that whoever wins will come in with their heads spinning like the Jazz did.

Mamba - a no game day roll call? Craziness, but we like it!!! And Charles is back in the house (we missed you) along with a morning shout from 420! Gosh - what in the heck is happening today? Are we nearing a full moon?
Liked the story on Newble and Darfur as well. I guess they save those heart touching stories for in between game days or Sundays when more folks are lounging and reading the paper.
But can we talk about our bench today? I think we need to hype them up a bit. I know they read the blog (or glance at it) so let's give them a shot of our enthusiasm and confidence in them to show up, play and score!!
GO LAKERS!

WOW - the whole family (almost) is checking in today! Nice!
For my 2 cents, I say San Antonio because they're the defending ones, but really - who cares? Doesn't matter - the victims are now being brought to the slaughter, and we don't care what color their jerseys are!
GO LAKERS - and GET WELL SOCKS!

If the spurs can beat the hornets on the road, that means that they are still good, so we do not want to face them.
Posted by: greek dude | May 19, 2008 at 10:44 AM
I would like to play the loser. This is why.
If the Spurs lose because they are old and slow, then I know for sure we can take them.
If the Spurs go into NO and win because they are playoff tuff, they would be tuff for us, right?
If the Hornets lose because they are youthful and inexperienced, then for sure, that's the team I want in the finals.
If the Hornets can beat a playoff tested Spurs in a game 7, then they have truly arrived and will be a formidable foe.
That's why I would rather play the loser.
But that changes if BOTH teams play bad. If the Spurs look very old and slow. The Hornets look like playoff newbies, and one team just happens to win. (like the Celts/Cavs series). Then both are really losers and we could beat either one.
Makes sense to me.
Go Spurnets!

Good Morning Mamba24, Good Morning Charles, Good Morning ALL of Laker Nation!
toad present and accounted for Mr. Mamba, SIR! Thank you for the rousing start to the morning, and another great poem! Much appreciated!
I hope the guys have a great dinner tonight, and Kobe WILL pick up the check........can't change a winning routine now, can we? Worked for both series so far, so...........
Tonight's NO/SA game will be quite fun to watch, but I don't really care who it is that wins. If it is NO, we get a younger team we beat in the regular season, one which we can establish psychological superiority over for years to come, as I see them as the most viable long term opponent with their youth and now, experience, and of course, No. 4 as coach. On the other hand, it would be fun for us to put the final nail in the coffin of the SA run in the playoffs and to put the "old timers" well on the road to not mattering much anymore. Either way, we get some wonderful confidence as we move forward.
Those who are saying 5 games, I sure hope so, but realistically, it think will be a seven game series no matter who we get, but so will the Pisstons/Leprecauns series. Now that we know we can win on the road in the hardest place in the league to go into and win, I see a 6 game finals beginining the Lakers fourth dynasty, winning again and again as the east gets older and feebler, and the west all tries to catch up to us.
RESISTANCE TO THE FOURTH LAKER DYNASTY IS FUTILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8 TO 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's supposed to be three dots in an ellipsis ... and just one "o" in losers.
Unless by "loosers" you meant that he prefers boxers instead of briefs, in which case I don't think this is the appropriate place to discuss that.

Regarding a game watching party, I asked AK/BK a while back this set of questions:
Will the Lakers be having road game watching at Staples? And, if so, could we get a (premium) section set aside for the Blog Family?

With regards to Bynum,
Are you guys not concerned with his skill level possibly regressing once he comes back? With a player this early in his career, isn't it quite a big deal to be sidelined for such a long time? The time required to polish up on his skills, get back into some formidable game shape, etc, would lead me to believe that Bynum won't be effective until the second part of the season next year? Any thoughts?
Posted by: Lakafo0 | May 19, 2008 at 11:23 AM
Either way it's a clear path to the finals.
Lest anyone forget, we blew the doors off NO any time we had either a healthy AB or PG.
And the Spurs? I'm sure their experience is worth something. Hell, it may even pull off a win tonight. But a floppy, flailing, whining Ginobli is gonna get his head handed to him by a finally healthy TA. Dfish shut down DWill, Mr. Longoria ain't no worry. Duncan's looking old and has always had problems against defenders with length.
Bring on the Pistons. We still owe them for a stolen championship in 04.

Reg season.
9.1 pts - 46% - 2.7 apg - 20.4 mpg
Utah series.
1.7 pts - 3-23 .130 [Total 5 assists - 4 TO's] 12.8 mpg
We need Jordie to step up, not step down, if we want to

i think the problem with Jordan in the utah series was he was too much into the headgames w/ deron williams. he played like he had a chip on his shoulder but somehow it was channelled negatively instead of positive. let's hope he doesn't get into the same mindset with CP3 or TP. he should just play his game and not worry so much about trying to force the media to view him in the same light as those other PGs.

Lakafo0 ,
I would be more concerned with Bynum's timing. Since his development with the Cap, he has acquired sophisticated footwork and finishing. His array of offensive moves may require his to work out to double time. (Catching up, sponging-adding to his arsenal and conditioning.)
Best,

Lakafo0,
"Are you guys not concerned with his skill level possibly regressing once he comes back?"
His physical skills will definitely be rusty. Hopefully, he has still been doing film study/classroom work with the coaching staff (esp Kareem), on recognizing/anticipating situations and learning how to react. If so, mentally he will be further along than when he got hurt.
