Five is alive!

Jjonny_fiveReally, we'll do anything to work a Short Circuit reference into a post.  It's so transparent and cheap.  But damn if that movie isn't the epitome of delightful!  The way Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were able to enhance their own humanity via an unusually human robot?  I think there's a lesson in there for all of us.  No wonder it was nominated for a Saturn Award

But I digress...

Wednesday night, the Lakers faced a pivotal Game 5 against the Utah Jazz in their Western Conference semifinal series, needing a win to hold on to home court advantage but facing life with a diminished Kobe.  (Perhaps you heard he hurt his back?)  It wasn't easy, nor particularly elegant, but in the end the Lakers got what they needed in a 111-104 win.  They'll take a 3-2 lead into Friday night's game in Salt Lake City, comfortable in the knowledge that should they lose, one more game on the friendly home floor awaits.  The Big Three were large for the Lakers, carrying them through different parts of the night.  Kobe's back was clearly aching, but he still had a major impact on the proceedings.

Click below for the breakdown, including a whole bunch of audio.

The Good:

  • Lamar Odom: Before the game, Odom referred to tonight's contest as "the most important game of my life."  Fair to say he rose to the occasion.  LO was the best player on the floor, finishing with 22 points, 11 boards and two blocks, on 8-12 from the floor and 6-6 at the stripe.  He continued his aggressive play, making a point of taking his offense to the rim. But more than simply providing the Lakers with offense, Odom played a huge game defensively.  In the first half, he consistently muscled Mehmet Okur away from the post, and generally made Okur's life difficult all night.  Beyond that, he was incredibly strong on his rotations, sliding over to pick up Jazz players as they found space off screens or when beating someone on the perimeter.  All in all, an outstanding game for LO.
  • Kobe Bryant: He took 10 shots from the floor, five of which came in the first six minutes of the game.  He struggled with turnovers early, and to find dribble penetration to the hole.  But on a night where should Kobe have seen ten grand lying on the ground in front of him, I doubt he'd have been able to bend down to pick it up (putting aside for a moment that, technically, he probably doesn't need to), 24 managed to play 41 minutes of effective ball, posting 26 points with six boards and seven assists.  The Lakers spread him around the floor, dotting him around the post and on the perimeter, trying to vary the looks he was getting and give Kobe a chance to influence the game.  Even without making it all the way to the hole, Kobe was still able to work his way to the line 17 times, a testament to his ability to recognize and read defenses and take advantage of what they're offering.
  • Pau Gasol (first half/late fourth quarter version, particularly): The final line was 21/6/8, with four blocks, but it wasn't a consistent effort throughout.  Gasol was a monster early, finding freedom in the post and using it to either score or deliver a pass, and best of all meeting the physical challenge Utah presented to him.  He finished the first half with 15/4/6.  Solid!  Unfortunately, come the end of the third quarter, he was still stuck there after an 0-3 frame that included no boards or dimes.  Yeeps.  For most of the fourth, too, Gasol struggled as Jerry Sloan's bunch became far more effective in pushing him away from the hole and badgering him with doubles as he tried to find space in the lane.  But late, Gasol found a way to contribute, hitting a big finger roll in the lane with a minute left, then icing the game with a dunk off one of Sasha's many misses from downtown.  That he got the board by drilling Okur in the back was, in some ways, nice to see.  Yes, had he been whistled, it would have given the Jazz a chance to shoot FTs on the other end, but it's nice to see Pau throw whatever weight he has around.
  • Vlad Radmanovic:  His best game of the playoffs, by far.  LO mentioned after the game that the team really wanted to get Vlad Rad rolling, and tonight, they did.  He finished with 15 points on 6-11 from the floor, including 3-5 from downtown.  He was particularly productive in the first quarter, with 10 points.  Best of all, Vlad was able on a couple occasions to find his way to the hole, something he needs to do now and again to keep defenses honest.  Dude's long as all get up, especially for a three-point specialist.  No reason to live exclusively on the perimeter.  On a night where Luke Walton didn't play well, it was important for Vlad to step up, and he did.
  • Derek Fisher:  Are you picking up on a theme, here?  Five starters, five goods.  We don't just throw out these random post titles without weaving them through the post.  Fish didn't have a loud night offensively, but he hit some big shots and dropped off some nice passes.  His real impact, though, was defensively.  Yes, Deron Williams had 27 points, but Fisher made Williams work along the way, and was about as effective as anyone can be against a PG of his caliber.  He had four steals, had his hands on a lot of balls, and, like Sasha and LO, was able to add a little physical to the Lakers' game, rather than always being on the receiving end.

The Bad:

  • Turnovers: 11 in the first half, which prevented the Lakers from opening up a lead much larger than the seven-point cushion they held at the half.  It was especially disappointing, I'm sure, since Utah was returning the favor and giving the ball up themselves (14 Jazz TOs in the opening 24 minutes).  Everyone played a role in the first-half giveaways: Four for Kobe, three for Pau, two for Fish, one each for Walton and LO.  In the second half, they managed to shore it up, giving up the rock a scant three times, but by then the damage was done.  19 points for the Jazz courtesy of turnovers meant the second half was going to be close.
  • Bench Production:  It was a particularly bad night for Walton, who had one point in 13 minutes, and had more fouls (two) than assists (zero). Only two boards and a steal in the positive columns of the scorebook.  Jordan Farmar had a couple of decent moments, hitting a big three and finally using his quickness to log an important fourth quarter and-one with a drive to the hole.  But he struggled mightily on defense, and overall didn't make much of an impact.  Ronny Turiaf wasn't much of a factor, either, grabbing one board in nearly nine minutes of run.  Sasha had the most time on the court, but as you'll see below, was something of a mixed bag himself.  All told, the Lakers bench contributed 13 points and six boards in 55+ minutes on the floor.  Not good.  They did, though, play some strong minutes at the top of the fourth with Kobe and Odom on the bench.  Good marks for that, but overall, not a productive evening.

The Mixed:

  • Sasha Vujacic: On the one hand, he couldn't hit a shot to save his life, and drew a terrible T late in the fourth for yapping at Kyle Korver while running past ref Bob Delaney.  Stupid call from the ref to hit a guy for jawing that late in the game, but still, let's have some awareness, 18.  On the other hand, he played some great defense, and brought a physicality to the LA backcourt that often served to frustrate Utah and interrupt its offensive sets.  He got up in the face of whoever he had to guard (often Kyle Korver), and played his typical style of harassing D.  Was it always perfect?  No, but had he not been putting out that sort of effort and making a difference on that end, Sasha wouldn't have been on the floor late, because he offered nothing offensively.

Lakers uber alles!

Wall-E is a ripoff of Johnny 5.

Scream, Vladamir, Scream!

My first post but lots of love reading everyones forever!!!I was drunk and I was worried, and was so since tip off. Read a lot of posts but still love out Lakers, they did what we needed them to do tonight, so no hate whatsoever. Everyone did their part I saw no fault in our team, they gave us what we needed. I want tour team to play tomorrow just so we could simply get ready to dispatch the hornets right after that.

Love for my lovely team.

N8palm

HAHAHA Johnny five!!! Nice one BK. Jordan 5 sure came back to life tonight as well.

How about that 2-3 minutes of basketball in the 3rd or 4th quarter featuring all white players on both teams?! I mean, Farmar and Williams I believe are half black, but can look white, but anyway it was pretty crazy to see all that whiteness on the floor. A Vanilla McFlurry if you will.

Now, it's time to jump on the Jazz early in Game 6, build a solid lead in Salt Lake, hang on for the win, and wait for the winner of New Orleans-San Antonio (because that series is going seven).

16...15...14...13...12...11...10...

"...but still, let's have some awareness, 18..."

Crux of the problem with Sasha -- despite the bulldog D and more consistent shooting his decision-making is crap. It could cost us a game and maybe a title...

Go Lakers!

oh.. boy.. i felt sick watching the game. it was too close.. my neck, body and head hurt.
but i was really... i am really happy that the lakers won. yeah.. lets finish them off in game 6.

On a night when Bryant barely scored (meaningless FT’s at the end) in the most important quarter of the Lakers season, it was refreshing to see Gasol, Fisher, and Odom step up on both ends of the court.

Hope Kobe realizes after this win that he didn’t need to shoot the ball like he did in the previous game’s 4th and OT (2-15 FG’s). This particular team doesn’t need him to dominate the ball on every offensive possession. Laker fans can only hope that Kobe will see the light after the win tonight.

Interesting tidbit of the night. Kobe had no problem scoring (shooting, posting up, driving the ball) during the 1st quarter, yet, seemed to be having a tough time on the defensive end; letting Ronnie Trash Brewer go off for 10 points.

As noted above, scoring isn’t what’s needed for this team. It’s solid defense and the leader needs to exhibit it.

Guess Kobe’s back only aches or tightens when he needs to play defense.

-Jeffs Aho

Lack of common sense surfaces via Bryant’s quote. It really makes people scratch their heads sometimes.

“That was the worst, most pain I’ve ever felt in a game.” - Bryant (game 4)

Then why did you shoot all those shots during OT when your back was hurting that much? It’s not like your teammates were having a terrible game. It was their shots that got the game into OT.

You see the lack of common sense? It’s like a hitter having a bad day at the plate. Instead of taking pitches and see if he could help the team by getting on base via a walk, the batter decides to swing at 3 consecutive pitches out of the strike zone.

Here’s the 2nd head scratcher:

“It was better than I actually thought it was going to be. I was able to spin; I was able to slide defensively.” - Bryant

You were able to slide defensively? Didn’t Ronnie Brewer light you up for 10 pts via layups and dunks during the 1st quarter?

Sure Bryant shot well in the 1st quarter, but didn’t anybody else notice that he was giving up more points than he as scoring the that quarter?

The way to win is to not let one of those supporting players go off. Korver, Harpring, and Brewer. Bryant has a tendency to let unknown players go unchecked as he roams aimlessly playing the passing lanes. Opponents know to backdoor Bryant via baseline for easy layups and dunks.

Utah lost tonight because of Vladdy’s scoring output.

The Big Three on both teams will get theirs.

Somebody needs to tell Bryant that the coaches of the league voted him onto 1st Team Defense.

-Jeffs Aho

What an incredibly satisfying victory.

I murdered my local card game tonight too.

A perfect rounding out of a perfect day.

I'm proud of the Lakers, particulary Odom for showing extraordinary character and performing extremely well.

Jeff,

While I think you're being a little too hard on Kobe, I was disappointed with losing Brewer in those early 3 shots. Not okay. Kobe also didn't box out Brewer giving him another easy shot.

Also, Kobe frequently says stuff that doesn't make sense. It's hard to tell how injured he is and it's hard to tell when he's being genuine about his play, when he's being defensive, and when he's being political. He's been trained to not just say what he thinks because it's easy for it to be misconstrued (sometimes purposely) and sometimes his heart isn't in the right place as a team player.

It's just part of the fun of the guy. I think it's really unfortunate that he's been trained to be careful with what he says. I'd much rather hear what he really thinks because I generally find that much more interesting.

I mean, come on, the media basically made it so that he can't talk trash about other players in the league without serious repercussions. What fun is that?

Clearly sometimes Kobe's killer instinct and takeover instinct gets the best of him.

I think your focus is all wrong though. Why hate on Kobe when the Lakers played such a nice game, largely with Kobe playing within the team system and playing fairly hurt?

That just doesn't make sense to me at all.

A win is a win..

I almost had like 50 heart attacks and Sasha (my man btw) had a bad shooting night that made me cringe. Anyways, I think that today we had the benefit of many calls in the 4th and must admit that the officiating seemed to benefit us a little bit more down the stretch. I'll take it.

Please win Game 6 -- my heart can't take this anymore.

GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So sad...my cable broke during the final 6 minutes of play. WHY!!!

Anyone else think Pau's face after that crucial late put-back was rather strange?

I think the dude just doesn't know what it's like to win? LOL, poor guy.

Well buddy, it looks like you're gonna have to get used to it...

hey jeffs dumbass, their defense is supposed to be that way... to make brewer a scorer.. if u noticed kobe sagging down to help on boozer after the screen and roll... its their scheme to stop boozer and williams first and let others beat u... stop the hate man.. lakers won.. be happy... iknow ur sad coz ur CAVS lost again today huhuhu LOSER!

look lonely

Hahahhahahahahaaa

Is there any particular reason you feel the need to make us scroll through 2 posts full of stupid about the same thing?

Bryant was a true warrior and leader. His team rose to the occasion. We are fortunate to see one of the greatest of all time playing through adversity.

Kobe and the 2007-2008 Lakers to all you haters....

F-U.

hey jeffs you keep talkin about common sense but yet have almost none by yourself,yo know that dont you?? Oh,of course you dont,if you do you wouldn't throwing this bulls... all the way.By the way have you EVER play a game known as a BASKETBALL? You obviously didnt if you lack the basic knowledge such as DEFENSE ALWAYS costs you MORE energy and is MORE TYIRYNG than OFFENSE.

Jeffs Aho,

Kobe is unlike any human being you have probably ever been in contact with. His mentality is that every shot he takes is going in the basket. Even if his right arm is broken he is crazy enough to think he can beat you with his left. This rare mentality, which sometimes can be harmful, is what makes him one of the best to play the game. The ability to believe in yourself although shot after shot will clank off the rim to have the confidence to take another shot. That is why he took those shots while in pain he honestly believes they should touch nothing but nylon. However, it proved costly for the Lakers that game.

Kobe was playing off Brewer in the first quarter not one of the baskets Ronny had was he guarded straight up by Kobe. Kobe let him get his knowing he has no jump shot and can not go off for 25, and instead focused on keeping Boozer or Okur from breaking out a big game. The man knows the game of basketball, if Okur or Boozer got hot the Lakers would have to pack in the paint more causing the outside shooters like Korver, Miles, and Williams to have more space.

Do I smell a hater on this blog this morning?

BTW - Good morning Laker Family!

Good morning Laker family around the Globe,

Another great day to be a Lakers fan! Can you feel it?

What makes Wednesday night's Win so special is that the Jazz had every opportunity to steal a game at Staples Center, and they couldn't do it.

Kobe's back prevented him from playing his usual brand of Defense, and from taking any shots in the 4th. The Machine couldn't buy a Basket, even if he'd had a Gold Mastercard. Luke Walton, who's been so valuable in the post-season, couldn't find his game. Pau Gasol, even with solid stats, had moments where he looked lost and overwhelmed. Ronny Turiaf was largely ineffective off the bench. And yet, the Lakers prevailed.

Utah had opportunity after opportunity when the score was close or tied to take the lead. They played as well as any team could on the road. And yet, the Lakers prevailed.

To this observer, the Lakers' spark was Lamar Odom. Not only were his stats huge, his passion and energy were larger than life. LO was as determined and effective as I've ever seen him.

When the other Laker impact players make so little impact and the Lakers still prevail, it bodes well for Game 6 in Salt Lake City on Friday. Yes, it is another great day to be a Lakers fan. This is our team. This is our year. Go Lakers!

GO LAKERS!

WHO IS THIS JEFFS AHO MORON??? THE LEVEL OF IGNORANCE ON DISPLAY AT THIS BLOG SOMETIMES AMAZES ME. I WONDER WHAT WOULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO JUST MAKE CRAP UP AND THEN POST FOR ALL TO READ. THAT IS LIKE TAKING OUT AN AD IN THE LA TIMES ONLY TO THEN POST A PICTURE OF YOURSELF WITH THE CAPTION "IDIOT."

VERY NICE GAME KOBE (MVP)!!!

GOOD JOB PAU!!!!!

NICE WORK LAMAR!!!!!!!

LAKERS ARE GOING TO WIN GAME 6.

Wow, I psyched for tomorrow. I'm catching a connecting flight at SLC en rout to JFK and can't wait to sport some laker gear in the Salt Lake airport.

Now for a few game related tidbits. Kobe on defense, he was roaming people, not slacking on Brewer. If he wanted to lock down Brewer and leave his teammates alone with their matchups, he'd shut him down..period. Anyone with a back injury knows that twisting, second to bending over, is one of the toughest things to do, which is probably why he was unable to get back into position in time.

Pau's Push....I watched the replay a few times and I'm pretty sure Okur flopped to draw a foul because he realized he was out of position to grab the board. Anyone courtside have more insight on that on?

J-Mar: I'm happy for Jordan that he made some big shots, now he just needs to feed the confidence beast and move past this stretch of games where he has been a ghost. The kid's got skills, but nobody works well with fear in their heart.

FInal point: Did anyone else notice Jerry Sloan giving an earfull to the officals after the game? The guy gets a rediculous gift in the 4th with the Sasha T and still has the nerve to bitch. Please... Don't fret Sloan, I'm sure the officiating will be awful as usual back in Utah tomorrow.

we're alive!

i am happy. :p

let's stop berating kobe and the lakers. we won and we will continue to win.

go LAMAR!

Jeffs Aho, do you watch for strategy at all?

Kobe obviously takes 'lesser opponents' lightly on defense.. but he hasn't been doing that in the playoffs at all. You act as if he is doing this all series. Kobe was NOT in no man's land on defense, which is generally what happens when Kobe takes it lightly in the regular season. He was doubling on Boozer or Williams. It clearly changed Utah's game plan.. Boozer was pretty much taken out of the game. Sure, I wish Kobe is able to get back to his guy or the team's rotation is quicker so that Brewer could be covered.. but, you need to see the whole picture. This is what other teams do to Kobe, LeBron, Duncan, etc.. they gamble by saying let the role players beat us. It is strategy.

While Kobe overdid it (understatement) in the OT, people need to understand that playing at home gives quite an edge.. this team was missing wide open shots left and right.. it just so happens that Gasol was able to get couple of offensive rebounds.. one that was a pushoff that is potentially called at Utah. The team won as a team. But, that was some of the sloppiest basketball I've ever seen.

Also, you might want to notice the difference between how the offense was started in OT and how it was yesterday. THIS is what Phil was getting it.. Lakers did not throw the ball to Kobe early in the offense every time down like they did in OT that enabled the Jazz to load up on him and then not have good spacing to create a shot late in the clock. Gasol/Odom are not this aggressive on the road either. Gasol is easily taken out with physical play in the post (even yesterday at home) and Odom rarely cuts to the basket on the road.

A lot of things have to improve for this team to move ahead. No one can point it to one or two things, blame a specific player (well, except Farmar.. haha).

Jeffs Aho,

I beg to differ. This team does need Kobe to score to win. The Lakers are not an overpowering defensive team by any stretch of the imagination. However, on a particular night, in a particular game, or an individual quarter, the Lakers are deep enough to go without his points...sometimes. But, having Kobe not score is not the way to win a championship.

We won a game by 7 that normally we've been winning by 13.5 points on average. Kobe in this condition brings the whole Laker team down about half a notch. Do you think we beat NO without a healthy, shooting, passing, defending, and aggressive Kobe?

You are crazy if you honestly think that. Because his counterpart over there, CP3, is playing like Kobe did in Games 1 and 2. CP3 is not playing like the Kobe of games 4 and 5. CP3 is dominating over there. We are going to need a dominant Kobe, and LO, and Pau to get past them.

Of course Kobe is hanging back on defense! His back is hurting all the time. He has made a decision on what parts of the game to participate in and what parts to relax. He's pacing himself and managing his pain. You must be a mighty callous person to fault him for that.

I don't know if you've noticed, but he isn't playing the full offense either. He isn't setting those back-screens and down-cuts that he's been using to keep the triangle spaced and give Fish, Vlad, and Walton all those open looks when he's on the weak side.

We always see how Kobe initiates the Triangle from the top or the strong side because he has the ball in those situations. His little-noticed off-ball and weak-side contributions have been largely ignored this year, but are just as important. His screens are why Pau is getting so many assists. Kobe is the guy underneath (and Walton is usually good at this, too) who is screening the shooters' defender away so they can pop free.

Kobe hasn't been able to do that for the last two games, and you can see how the Triangle hasn't run smoothly since. There just isn't any way he's going to set a hard screen when his back is barking at him.

So, of course he's saving himself for just the big plays, the crucial plays and he has to delegate the whole rest of the game to his team mates.

So far, it's working.

Don't hate so much, dude.

--Fearless

Anyone know where a poor soul can watch a replay of last night's game online?

Missed it; gotta see it.

Wes

Jeffs Aho,

Dude! You're going to give yourself an anurism! Lay off Kobe's defense. He isn't going to defend like his old self until his back is healed. Deal with it. Take it like a man and move on!

This is not the same Kobe that was voted 1st Team All-Defense. OK?!

His back hurts. He isn't 100%. That means he isn't going to do 100% of Kobe stuff. You will see less of what you saw from him before.

Will it be enough? Don't know. But, you aren't going to get much more.

On the other hand, can Kobe muster up the strength to make a single great defensive play at a crucial time? YES! Did you not see the consecutive stops he, Fish and Sasha created during crunch time (including not one, but two shot clock violations)? Were you even watching the game? When the game was on the line, Kobe's defense was there right where it always was. The three of them nearly shut down Utah's whole back court. If not for some miracle threes by Williams, Utah's back court would have posted a goose egg.

But, then again, Williams is legitimately one of the two very best point guards in the league. When he's playing like he should, he can't be shut down either. So, don't expect that.

You really need to get your expectations in line with reality.

We are talking about humans, here. Not robots. People respond to pain. God gave us pain to remind us of what things NOT to do.

What you should be doing in coming up with a scenario where we win in Utah knowing that Kobe's defense is only going to be there for short stretches of the game and where he won't be able to shoot much at the end of the game. That would be a much more constructive use of your thinking ability.

Those are the relevant and realistic facts.

Also, we gotta hope that Sloan hasn't noticed. But, I gotta believe that if I've noticed where Kobe's game is short, so has he. And he's trying to figure out -- as we speak -- just how to exploit that.

--Fearless

Wow, a Short Circuit reference, AK/BK you never cease to amaze me. Well done.

-bozz-

passionate lakers fan-

make up your mind. We know Luke is white. But he has shown that he can play. Do I need to post your own words back to you? Kobe believes in him, as you said yourself.

Sorry, I just had a bit of a crisis in Luke faith myself earlier, I'm trying to make amends. Also I'm trying to set some kind of record for posts during one game.

Nah, I know you didn't mean to equate athletic with black, I think. But some here seem to.

Posted by: phred | May 14, 2008 at 10:10 PM

The deeper you play in the play-offs, your weaknesses are exposed.
Denver-a team that does not play defense-does not expose you.
Utah-a team that plays defense-will expose you.
I made the comment about Luke and Vladimir being trade as a result of looking to the future.
The future challenging teams (Portland, Houston, Utah, Sacramento, New Orleans) will block Luke's shots around the basket and their small forwards will take him off the dribble.
Vladimir?
No need to comment on why he will be traded.
The future small forward spot will belong to LO as a strater and Trevor coming off the bench.
Why?
They are both long and athletic (AK-47 is long; the young Wright on New Orleans is long; Artest is strong; etc...).
And don't forget Newbie (who is a much better defender than Luke and Vladimir).
I don't hate Luke or Vladimir.
I'm just looking to the future as a result of what I'm seeing in the present.
Peace.

Stop hatin Jeffs Aho. If you play any kind of Bball at all, you will know that it is more painful on your back to react(defense) than it is to go on offense. What won this game were all the free throws that Kobe made. And to be able to bait your defenders into those fouls despite an injury takes skills. Given your inate hatred, you will never get to appreciate that.

jeffs ahole - do you have a clue? you are actually bashing Kobe and his inner drive, as well as his defense? you are pathetic. did you read that just recently Kobe was named to the All Defensive Team - yet again? I bet when you tweak your little back, you are curled up on your mommy's couch, crying.

K Brothers,

"Really, we'll do anything to work a Short Circuit reference into a post. It's so transparent and cheap. But damn if that movie isn't the epitome of delightful! The way Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were able to enhance their own humanity via an unusually human robot? I think there's a lesson in there for all of us."

You guys are the anti-T.J. Simers.

Awesome.

Let's hope Phil Jackson has a pre-game viewing of "Short Circuit" for the team. Victory cannot be denied us!

GO LAKERS!

-Jeffs Aho

Man, you are soooo jealous. The only thing exceeding your Kobe envy is just how stupid you are. I mean really. you ARE that stupid. Your comments make you look foolish and ignorant.

The Lakers being lead by Kobe is eating you up so much, you can't help yourself into making silly childish replies that don't make any sense. lol

How about that 2-3 minutes of basketball in the 3rd or 4th quarter featuring all white players on both teams?! I mean, Farmar and Williams I believe are half black, but can look white, but anyway it was pretty crazy to see all that whiteness on the floor. A Vanilla McFlurry if you will.

your point...?

Good Morning Lakers Nation!!

Sloan complains the refs are not fair and I'm loving it.

Its another good day to be a Lakers Fan.

Was at the game last night and it was rocking!!! It was a really fun game and a really fun crowd. It was funny when everyone was screaming utah sucks, utah sucks!!!! I couldn't have been happier with the outcome either.

One thing I want to mention was the applause Jordan got when he entered the game. I didn't hear one boo or anything. This shows a lot about this years team and the fans. Jordan has been playing as bad as anyone right now yet everyone was behind him. I even noticed the Lakers give Jordan an extra hard pat or slap on the butt.

Jordan didn't have an awesome game, he definitely passed on some shots he would've taken earlier in the year however he did hit one 3 and the 3 point play he had at the end of the 3rd (or was it the start of the 4th? I forgot) was clutch and really got Staples back in to it.

This game was a huge win however we still have to take care of business because the series is anything from over. Hopefully these Lakers can stay focused and steal a game in SLC.

GO LAKERS

Brewer got those looks because kobe was helping and roaming to help the other guys. Whoever Kobe's guarding, he's giving them space and he's helping to guard boozer and williams. that's their defensive strategy right now. Still tho, it was his mistake that he lost brewer with those back-cuts in the first quarter. But if you notice when he's guarding korver, he sticks to him like glue. but when its brewer or price, he sags off and let them shoot the open jumper while he's sitting on boozers lap on the post. Its strategy man.

Somebody needs to tell Bryant that the coaches of the league voted him onto 1st Team Defense.

-Jeffs Aho

a bit unfair, don't you think, considering his back injury?

Greetings' Laker Nation the team got it done last night.
Kobe, did not need to put up alot of 3s since he has been having challenges with his back the rest of the team did what they had to do to get a "W'.
Friday's game is going to be a good one Laker Nation, and everyone who post here enjoy the game.

Guess Kobe’s back only aches or tightens when he needs to play defense.

-Jeffs Aho

.. guess you've never had a back injury... or played basketball

On a night when Bryant barely scored (meaningless FT’s at the end) in the most important quarter of the Lakers season, it was refreshing to see Gasol, Fisher, and Odom step up on both ends of the court.

-Jeffs Aho

here's a test of your objectivity: had Bryant missed those "meaningless" freethrows, would you still have called them meaningless?

Good Morning Party People!

One more win to take out the Jazz! Amazing Happens, love that countdown.

Have a good one guys!

Good morning LAL friends!
How sweet it is - up 3-2. Game 6 closeout.

I LOVE LO7!!!! He was awesome last night and to say it was the most important game of his life - special! I finally think he has the eye of the tiger - that look like you can't and won't lose. I have been waiting to see that in him for 4 years.

D-Fish - the season's savior! Seriously, his leadership, motivation & hard work to START every game for us this year and show up with 100% night in and night out is amazing!!!

Props to Vlad for his shots - but does PJ have to call him out every time? Why can't the guy show up and channel all this every game night for the next month?

I am not too worried about Walton now - I think he will rise up in UT and come out with a good mindset. You could tell he was getting down on himself during the game with the little mistakes. I think he will be shaping up after he sees the film.

What a great game!

GO LAKERS!

Typical Jazz troll response to a Lakers win.

"Boo hoo! You only won, *sniff, sniff*, because the calls went your way. Waaah! Waaah!"

Aw! That's too bad! Does it hurt that much? Maybe your mommy can kiss it and make it all better?

Maybe you will feel better knowing you never had a chance in the first place. David Stern has fixed it so the Lakers will win. Nobody wants to see a Utah Finals. Especially not the advertisers.

Now doesn't that make you feel better.

The Lakers are being tested in this series. Once they (the bench) rid themselves of the playoff jitters (turnovers, missed shots, etc.), just imagine how potent the offense will be. They need to persevere and work out their individual kinks to build confidence.

Go Lakers!

Good win last night! Anyone know where Drew Bynum was? We didn't see him on the bench.

While both grew up in St. Louis without NBA basketball, Andrew became a die hard Lakers fanatic after moving to L.A. to attend USC. That he managed to find a job requiring him to obsess over his favorite team, the same activity that prompted him to waste time while working other jobs, is pretty incredible. As for Brian, his baptism into pro hoops fandom has been provided by the "All Lakers, All The Time" citizens of Los Angeles. Beats the hell out of covering the Bucks.
