A whole new ball game?

The popular saying is that a series doesn't truly begin until a team loses one on its home court, a saying that the Utah Jazz is taking to heart this evening as it preps for game 3 (6:00 pm PST, ESPN).  But even if the notion that L.A. merely held serve is indeed the case, that doesn't mean a shift of venues works as a Robitussin-style cure all.  Only thirteen teams in NBA history have pulled out a series after falling behind, 2-0.  Of course, there's a difference between long odds and impossible ones, a fact this Utah squad knows via firsthand experience. They also come armed with a coach who knows a thing or two about teaching an effective pick and roll.  Plus, they consider themselves in possession of an ace in the hole, an arena with everything from  deafening volume to a motorcycling bear that's capable of creating a boxed in effect on the home team.  That boisterous crowd isn't afraid to get in a player's ear, even ex-Jazzman Derek Fisher, whose 365-day-old story is considered inspirational by everyone but the SLC residents (and speaking of anniversaries, nearly 11 years ago to the day, Kobe Bryant used a high-profile failure in Utah to gain wisdom for a brilliant career).

So how will the Lakers look to counter this admittedly tough obstacle?  For starters, they can take a page from Coach Dale Norman's Hickory High play book, which involves a tape measure and some calm perspective.  Matching or even besting Utah's numbers on the boards would also be a plus, although the Lakers have already started moving in the right direction.   It also wouldn't hurt to note the lack of believable swagger in the voice of their opponents.  The one approach they shouldn't apply, however, is a game plan involving the services of Trevor Ariza.  The latest CAT scan shows damage still lingering, which will force him to miss at least two more weeks before getting medical clearance.

The average Kobe fan's allegiance can border on zealotry, in the eyes of those on the outside looking in.  Of course, the first time The Logo looked in Bryant's direction, he was pretty much hooked, too.  After all the ups and downs, the roller-coaster rides and titles, Bryant has become family for many a Laker enthusiast.

Marge Hearn says Chick would be enjoying this run.  The Lakers' first lady would know.

The NBA playoffs may be where amazing happens, but is the NHL postseason even more amazing-er?

If Mike D'Antoni really wants to prove he and his system wasn't the problem in Phoenix, he'll make it work with the Knicks, who put their offer on the table (depending on how much much stock you put in an ESPN report, that is).  Or he could just take the easy (or as some would call it, "sane") route and take a gig in Chicago.

IT is INEVITABLE. Tonight, another link in the chain.

Utah is a really good time even better at home. If the Lakers are struggling, I'll predict them to lose.

Tim-Fo-Show

Nice to see you post again man.

Wheres Hugo?

GAME DAY!!!!!!

Great to star the day off with a roll call, thank you Maba 24.

Tonights going to be tough but we've been playing at such a high level we're going to be hard to beat. I can see either team winning. Should be a good one. I'm sure Kobe will give us another MVP performance. Just needs another strong game by LO.

GO LAKERS

Very bad news about Trevor. Very, very bad news. But it's still INEVITABLE.

I really, really hope Ariza can get back before we face the Hornets.

The Lakers expected Trevor to be cleared for tonight's game, so hopefully it just needs a smidgen more healing and then he can help with CP3.

We could really use him next round and beyond.

Gasol AKA "Frumpy"

Mamba,

Thanks I needed that Roll Call.

hey guys im new at this is the first time i post here. Man im really worried about tonight i feel like we are gonna lose this game cuz its tough winning over there in Utah and i we won last time without Pau but i dont know. I really want them to win tonight more than anything

Man...Laker Fam

Tonight is the big night. Every sports pundit is saying that the Lakers look the most dominant in the playoffs so far but our biggest test comes tonight. If we pull out a victory tonight, that would send a message to the rest of the teams in the playoffs. Some keys to the game are Vlad Rad needs to have a big game. He has stepped up the D, but we need him scoring on 3's and taking it to the hoop. Watch for the pick and roll tonight.

Go Lakers

Supermemo0616

Welcome!

Dayum, I guess I shouldnt've gotten all geeked about Trevor and his being cleared.

From now on as far as our players and their impending return following injuries, I am gonna just EXPECT the WORSE but Hope for the Best...

I like how the article about Sloan talks about what a reliable tough taskmaster he was, but neglects to mention what a raging homophobe he was. It seems fairly likely he would have had a better team had he given Jon Amechi some playing time.

The old-fashioned guys sometimes harken back to the good old days, the good old days of bigotry.

Hey, TA won't be with us on the court tonight, but we still have what it takes to whoop the Ja$$.

As Fatty said, the word of the day is REVENGE!

Revenge for the way D-Fish got dissed by the SLC whiners. Plenty of motivation for this game.

10 TO 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charles:" Thanks I needed that Roll Call."
Careful Charles you are starting to sound like Dr. Phil. LOL!

Good luck to the Lakers tonight.

D'antoni should definitely take the Knicks job. They need him more than Chicago does. D'antoni can bring them some respectability. It's a bigger market and Kobe always plays well at MSG, so it'll be fun beating D'antoni in the Big Apple!

Hello my Laker brothers and sisters. It's game day. I just wanted to share a little love before I head out and find a Mother's Day Gift for my wife. I'm so jacked up for the game today, I decided that work might distract me from my focus. Good to see you all in this morning. Mamba, Nice poem.Poignant and succinct.

Let's rip their referee whining throats out tonight.

Kobesabadassssss( and he is )

Mel,....you mean "thump" D'Antoni in the Big Apple right?

Kobesbad

GO LAKERS!!!!
I'd like to say that this is a great Blog.

I would say that the keys to the game is the lakers conitnuing to attack the rim and getting to the line. This takes deron williams out of the game, and utah has not looked to impresive in the half court sets especially with boozer struggling in the post.

the LAkes need to have another strong first quarter like in game two. I don't know about you guys but i have to say that was probably the best first quarter i have ever seen these guys play.

LO needs to have another strong game on the boards and start off aggressive like in game 2.

This series is ours to win because we are better than the Jazz in the open floor and we can dominate the half court because when all else fails we can just run Isolation for that guy with the #24 jersey what's his name oh yeah Kobe Bryant our MVP!!!!!

Benjamin:"I like how the article about Sloan talks about what a reliable tough taskmaster he was, but neglects to mention what a raging homophobe he was. It seems fairly likely he would have had a better team had he given Jon Amechi some playing time. The old-fashioned guys sometimes harken back to the good old days, the good old days of bigotry."
INSIGHTFUL. Kudos benjamin

http://alunaticraving.wordpress.com/

Funny site.

I'm mad at Trevor Ariza's healing ability and how conservative the Laker training staff is being. If he isn't experiencing any pain and can run and jump and do it without any pain, then he should be at least able to practice with the team. It's getting really silly. If they are waiting for the bone to be 100% healed, then he's not playing again for a long time. Bones don't heal like flesh heals. I broke my wrist and they let me get back to activity 12 weeks later. I think they are biding time right now with this whole fiasco and it's really starting to piss me off.

Kobesbad,

Applesauce 'em.

Maybe they should give Ariza some osteoperosis (sp?) meds like Atenol or other to strenghten his bones.

Present!

Morning Charles, Larry and all.

Gooooooo Lakers.

I know his teams were really fun to watch and all but I am so celebrating D'Antoni's fall. LOL if he winds up coaching the Knicks. But, hey, maybe he can actually make them relevant again -- in the East.

What a jackass.

I miss Chick. Good to see Marge is still enjoying life and Lakers though!

All I want for my birthday weekend is a two wins in Utah.

Kobes Bad: "Let's rip their referee whining throats out tonight."
Jon K:"Lets stomp on their throats"
Fatty:" Revenge is the Word of the day"
THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THIING.... GAME DAY!!!!

Is there a SASHA SHOULD START OVER VLAD RAD bandwagon?

If there is, put me on it!! Phil obviously has so much faith in Sasha now, as he left him in during most of the 4th quarter crunch time in game 2, when the game was on the line.

I think he's ready to start.

Thanks for the Roll Call Mamba --

This is one of those games that measures how far our team has come. Very hostile environment and likely underdogs (according to Vegas, ESPN, Simers). There is no question that the Jazz are the next victim -- but it may take 5 -- OMG 5!

Mel, maybe D'Antoi can now "bust" the bobcats, raptors and bucks ... how the mighty have fallen.

Mamba,

Its cool to see the roll call again... even though I'm not on it. :(

I think the key tonight will be how the ref's call the game. If they let the Jazz get away with all the Sloan dirty tricks (Pushing in the back, pulling jerseys, holding, ect) the Lakers might have a hard time adjusting and may loose their cool.

We'll see what happens.

Good Morning Laker Nation!

As "Director of round 2 game 3 win" I am here to give a shout out to the crowd. Lets get Utah at home!!!!!!

Yes, they have the best home record in the NBA...... BUT....We have the best team in the NBA and the best Player in the NBA.

Thats alot more than the mormons have going for them.

LETS GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PURPLE AND GOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning Laker Nation
Charles, Mamba, Jon K., Pig, Toad, Lakergurl(s)...

Supermemo0616 *WELCOME**
Don't worry the guys have this handled, DFish & Kobe will not allow the team to back down, sputter, or fizz. The Jazz season is coming to end this weekend.

What will they say after we beat the Jazz on their home court tonight? "This (series) one's in the refrigerator, the eggs are cold, the butter is getting hard".... Coming from the home of the future World Champion Los Angeles Lakers.
Can't wait until tip-off to get this party started!

Mamba, I can't believe you can whip up such a good poem, so fast.

Guess the Lakers can inspire us artists bloggers to incredible hieghts.

WARNING! WARNING! In-Law Alert!

In-laws coming for weekend. Wife has ordered Fatty, to clean carpets, wax floors, take out trash, etc..etc...
Fatty must comply. Secret to 31 years of marriage - (A good comply)

No more posting today. Only get break to watch game.

Have a great blogging day.

Hope the TIVO works for our traveling Lakers lady

Revenge! No mercy! Blah blah blah....

Go Lakers!

Tonight's the last chance Utah has to make this a series.I expect them to come out guns blazin'. I think we can weather their initial storm and finish strong and eek out a win. I hope the refs don't determine the outcome.

Jesterguru

Advance Happy Birthday! North Blogger represent!

jesterguru

Happy birthday! And, your birthday wish shall be granted if you simply blow out the canldes on the count of 3!

Ready?

1 2 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consider it done! Get out the broom, it's a SWEEEEEEP!

10 TO 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of us already think it so I'm gonna come out and say it. The Lakers will beat the Jazz in this series (I don't know in how many games) and will have to match up against either NO or SAS. In my opinion, I would prefer facing the SAS. NO seems to be a bad matchup for the Lakers and I would hate to see CPO drop 30 and 20 against the Lakers that frequently. We have some decent gaurds but CPO is in a class of his own. Another reason I want to see the Lakers match up against the SAS is for revenge. I hate the SAS, almost as equally as the Suns, and would love to see their dreams of a repeat get crushed by Kobe and the crew.

If you guys had to pick between NO and SAS for the Lakers to match up against in the WCF, who would you pick?

Man, the blog is hype today!

Charles,
Thanks! I've been trying to get a little more "work" done lately, ha ha ha.

Not sure about Hugo, I'm sure he's still around. Some of his friends were making the trek to Salt Lake to watch the game. I would have gone, but I had too much to do. Maybe next season I'll just travel on the road during the playoffs, wouldn't that be fun?

Fatty, thanks for the advice. I'm cleaning up around the house right now just to keep Mrs 4 (FO') Show happy.

Tonight is going to be a MAD HOUSE.

The Home Team in the 2nd round is 10-0.

Can the Lakers do what no one has yet to do???

I'll put it this way, if the Lakers find a way to win tonight, Lord help the other teams in the NBA, because I'm 100% sure the Jazz will come out fighting like a pit bull on steroids and PCP.

"Game 3 is no different," Kobe Bryant said. "No matter how loud the crowd is or what's going on, we just have to focus on what we have to do. It's just noise."

All this hype about the home crowd in Utah and them being so loud, I don't think it poses a real threat... Kobe is right, it is just noise. I understand that it gets the players pumped but is the crowd going to actually go on the court and play the game for them?
I would pretend they were cheering for me.... Is that lame?
Go Lakers!

Good morning everyone, I'm already counting the hours till the game, if we win at least one of these two games the Jazz are done for, I just hope we rip their hearts out for the way they treated Fsher. There should be some sort of unspoken rule that you NEVER,EVER,EVER mess with Fish. In the words of the Mamba "Lets get this party started"

sorry utah... there's nothing you can possibly do.

ELLE:"I just hope we rip their hearts out for the way they treated Fsher. "

OH MY GOD NO!! Now you've done it! You blood thirsty
Bloggers have even brought out the blood lust in kind ELLE.
FATTY, you are the ringleader of this! LOL!

FWF - thanks - me too.

Amazing - "going to Lakerland" - I LOVE THAT!! I think I am using that one with my family when they call during the game at most inopportune times because they are clueless.....

Pig: if you google Trevor's name - there is a NY Daily News post right around time he was traded which hints that his injury issues are way more serious than Lakers knew which is why the trade happened. It was interesting insight. And is making me think like we took the chance and it didn't work...this season anyhow. I won't go on the training staff is lame bandwagon but I think we knew what we were getting and it was bad luck.

But no bad karma for me today - LAKERS game day! Psyched for it and can't wait to see it when I land back in Cali.

GO LAKERS!

Charles,

Great links!

Thanks to everybody for the bday wishes already and yet to be expressed! (It's officially tomorrow.)

My very own birthday bandwagon...I'm all verklempt.

BUT

Let's not be distracted from the real important stuff, namely our Lakers and some good, good wins in the land of ice and snow.

Btw, a quick shoutout to Benjamin, whose posts I have been enjoying lately.

"There should be some sort of unspoken rule that you NEVER,EVER,EVER mess with Fish."

Amen, Elle!

(Actually, I think there is: It's called Karma and it's a bitch.)

Tim-4-Show, how you be man? Good to see you know
your priorities...The Mrs. first, The Lakers second LOL!

Tim-4-Show

The Lakers are already doing what no team has done.........we are, after all, UNDEFEATED and will remain so after tonight.

The Ja$$ will come out as strong as they can, but if we can win the first 5 minutes of the game and the first quarter with focus, intensity and defense, they're done, we can stcik a fork in 'em! Kobe and Fish will have all the guys on top of thier games for the opening tip!

LET'S GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 TO 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, the mormons finally learned how to scalp tickets out here...prices are through the roof! I'm glad my bro and I got our fat hookups for each game, otherwise our hot seats would be like 3 bills per.

Should be pretty raucous tonight...and the Jazz fans might be loud as well. :)

I plan on representing well with my freshly signed Rambis jersey (as of last game here)...

By the way, anybody have that old "It's the Lakeshow" song anywhere?? I've been trying to find it so I can blast it around the arena today, but have had issues...Anybody that can score that will get some mad props here!

Rose,

You wrote "I would pretend they were cheering for me.... Is that lame?"

Maybe at staples when the Lakers are on Offense, the crowd could chant "Offence"

Dum .............. Dum, OFFENCE!
Dum,Dum,Dum,Dum, OFFENCE!

So we would be used to running our offense with that in the background. Then when we are on the road and they are doing the D-Fence chant, the players can pretend its the "Offense" chant @ Staples.

That probably just made no sense. HaHa

:(

Go LAKERS!

SLC

RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!

10 to 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JesterGuru:"(Actually, I think there is: It's called Karma and it's a bitch.)"
AMEN, JESTERGURU,
AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

i know we don't usually listen to john hollinger but (from espn.com):

"In the Lakers' case, they could be unbelievably good. Between getting Andrew Bynum back, having another year of Kobe and Pau in their primes, and surrounding them with all the other quality young talent (Farmar, Ariza, Turiaf, et al), the sky's the limit. If everything breaks right, next year's Lakers could be one of the best teams ever."

Happy Game Day, Lakers friends!!!

Charles: I answered your Spanish post from the other day (second to last comment on the "Game 2 will feature an official MVP" post)... I don't know if you've already seen it... just didn't want you to think I'd ignored you. :-)

I know a lot of Lakers/Pau fans in Spain read this blog, even if they don't comment... just to let you all know, if you did know already: tonight's game will be show live at 3:00 am on Cuatro! Yoohooo! No watching fuzzy streaming video on the internet this time!!!

Go Lakers! Make it 3 - 0 tonight!!! (I've got a broom that is itchin' to help out with the sweep...)

Psyched,

I read that same report around that time. I'm pretty sure it was Peter Vescey that wrote it, which easily discredits the report because the guy is essentially an earlier version of Bucher. Straight gossip reporter. I think the Lakers are just being overly cautious about it. Even if they didn't know about it, the Laker doctors would've had to clear Trev in order to complete the trade. It was low risk no matter what, because the Lakers got some money under the cap in the deal, and Trevor is only on the books for 1 1/2 seasons. Low risk, high reward.

He'll be back soon. I'm an antsy pants.

From the "Nothing You Can Do About It Now" Department: It's no use crying over spilled milk, but before everyone heaps all this praise on Mitch K. for his brilliant schemes, maybe he should look a little closer before he leaps. He should have had T.A.'s medical history and his physical condition checked out thoroughly before pulling the trigger on the Mo Evans trade. But then I guess if he used the same Docs that said T.A. and Drew would make it back in 8 wks., they would have ok'ed the trade anyway.

Nevertheless, Mo was quite happy here being a Laker and has since showed his worth in Orlando. 9.3 PPG during the season and 8.0 during the playoffs and 3 RPG. Not too shabby. And Cookie? 5 PPG and 2.2 RPG in 45 games with the Magic. So, that's 14.3 PPG and 5.2 RPG that Mitch traded away for T.A. who hasn't been able to give the Lakers anything since early January.

Don't get me wrong. I like T.A. He's a heck of a defender, but he's injury-prone and a slow healer. I know it's not his fault. It's genetic

But I like Mo, too. He was a hard worker and looking forward to being a Laker this year.

So, Mitch, do your homework next time. Unless, of course, it was PJ who wanted you to make the trade, then all is forgiven. BTW, Thanks for Gasol.

EDDIE BROCK:" If everything breaks right, next year's Lakers could be one of the best teams ever.""

Sure, everybody wants to get on the BandWagon Now.
It's cool to be a LakerFan. But Hollinger there is no
room left on the bandwagon. Holinger can pay for the gas though.

TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO KICK SOME JAZZ AZZ!!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORNIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING LAKER NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAMBA24!!! YYYYYAAAAAAYYYYY!!!

We sat here in idle disbelief. He could not have just left the blog...not the mamba... We asked him to come back..we begged him, and still nothing. Like Superman, one day he was here, then he was gone. Where did he go? What was he doing? Was he abducted by Jazz fans so he couldn't keep the Laker Nation alive with his spirit? Was he drowning his sorrows in a dive bar on the bad side of Beverly Hills? Did he go blind and crash when he saw Tom Cruise drive by completely naked in a convertible smacking himself in the face with pantie hose filled with Jello while listening to Ride of the Valkyries? (anything is possible with Tom Cruise) No..none of these make sense, so I offer my opinion...He just had a mild case of Gonoherpesiphilaids and needed to rest dor a while.

Open letter to Benjamin

like how the article about Sloan talks about what a reliable tough taskmaster he was, but neglects to mention what a raging homophobe he was. It seems fairly likely he would have had a better team had he given Jon Amechi some playing time.

Derron Williams looked like he found his first rhythm of the series half way through the 3rd quarter in game 2. Hopefully that success won't leak into game 3.

I know Utah is really good at home. And I know they are as tough as any team in the league. But I also know NO team in the playoffs is playing better than LA and I know no one has the MVP on their team.
LETS GO LA!

Go Jester, enjoy your natal day. According to Mamba24, I'm a party animal. What animal are you going to feed?

BTW, this is a long overdue follow up AK/BK got the awards, Kobe got his MVP and the crowd at Staples got their T-Shirts. How about these nincompoof bloggers here, where is our blog t-shirts? Compliments of the many sponsors of AK/BK. When the blog was starting three years ago, we used to get follow up on our comments about the Lakers. No T Shirts, No Love.

Any sign of JW Weathermen? How about Staples24? Any reactions from Gunner24 about the MVP awards. I told Gunner one time that Kobe will get the MVP because of Gunner. Kobe made it because he was reading the posts of Gunner and followed the advice to the letter that led to more assists, high percentage shots, more love from his teammates. Bingo.

Anyway, we are almost half way of the playoffs, time to post again and be counted.

Mamba,

I remember when I first began to watch the Lakers, I was 15/16 and I watched because of Fisher, in all the years I watched the man and read the things written about him never once did I ever hear anyone say a negative thing about him. I was devastated when he left but always wished him well, I don’t know anyone who ever booed him or would ever think to when he was with the Warriors or with the Jazz. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when they booed him, shame on them. Hell has no furry like a Fisher fan scorned

GO LAKERS!

Good morning Laker Bloggers!

Sucks to read about Ariza, with how wrong they have been about predictions on clearances, I am not expecting him back.

Some good articles written (SportshubLA, Bill Dwyre) thanks for the links, K Bros.

Glad to read that it was Marge Hearn who gave out the game ball last time. (somehow didnt catch that on TV)
Chick really would have loved this team.

Happy birthday to the jester and the guru.

I actually do hope D'antoni lands with the Knicks, so I can laugh at both of them at the same time. Good luck in dealing with Starbury!

Utah is a great home team, but we are also a great road team. Its gonna be physical down there tonight with home court and all, so I think Boozer will bounce back. But we can still affect Deron if we get a block on him early on, he seems to stop penetrating after that.

Lets go Lakers! Lets go!

The Lakers got TA for one his defensive skills at the 3 position that we desperately need. Vlade is wondering aimlessly most of the time allowing his man to score at will. His shooting has suffered in the Utah series. He has open looks to the basket all the time but couldn't knock them down. Walton is a defensive liability in the post and not scoring enough to help out his teammates. Kobe has done a marvelous job at the 3 when Sasha was inserted as a shooting guard.

It will be tough game tonight. I expect Boozer to come out firing to make up for his miserable games at Staple Center. We need Lamar to be active and score in the 20s tonight. Fish and Sasha would also have to contribute when they double team Kobe. Pau has yet to have a breakthrough game and I think tonight could be the one....

Go Lakers!!

Frank1rizzo,
Actually that would sound a little lame.... But whatever works, I'm in. Hopefully no one will throw a beer out on to the court tonight...

Charles,
How are you my friend? I'm here at work right now, getting ready for the game on Tv tonight. I hope we stay undefeated and if so, that would send an extremely STRONG message that we're not going anywhere anytime soon.

Colorado loves the Lakers!

I'm really enjoying beating up on teams with goofball mascots this year. Can someone line up a blue hornet in tights, so we can extinguish that thing too?

Hello, my Laker family!
We need to take the crowd out of the game early.
The Jazz will be fighting with spit and vinegar in their blood tonight.
This is the perfect time for the Black Mamba and crew to RIP THE HEARTS OUT OF EVERY JAZZ PLAYER AND FAN ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.
Let's pray they can do it.
MICHGAN LAKER

Hey Mamba24! Hey Laker bros and sis!

Fisher should go for 20 again to shut the Utah crowd.

EDWIN GUECO"BTW, Kobe got his MVP and the crowd at Staples got their T-Shirts. How about these incompoof bloggers here, where is our blog t-shirts? Compliments of the many sponsors of AK/BK. We are all witnesses. But not everything about the LeBron is worth witnessing. Sure, he has the $400,000 car, Jay-Z in his corner, and Phil Knight wrapped around his diamond pinkie ring. But witness how His Greatness treats the little people, and you may begin to see the virtue of Brendan Haywood's hard fouls.

One of LeBron's favorite places to dine is XO Prime Steaks on West Sixth. Its mix of swank drinks and delicately massaged beef allows the Chosen One to consume calories worthy of his royal digestive system. All of which is swell — except that LeBron is among Cleveland's stingiest tippers.

According to a Punch source, a peer recently quit after tiring of LeBron going Scrooge McDuck on his ass.

It went down like this: LeBron pulls up in his Mercedes outside XO. People stop and try not to stare, but c'mon, it's LeBron James. He enters the restaurant with a group of friends. On this special occasion, the King decides to dine late. He keeps his group there until around 3:45 a.m. During this time the waiter obsequiously pours drinks and fetches anything else His Greatness needs.

The final bill comes to $800. By the feudal laws of decorum, which stipulate that the affluent should administer a 20 percent gratuity, staffers figured they'd be pocketing an extra $160. But when they fetched the autographed bill after His Heinousness bolted back to Akron, their expectation turned to disbelief, then anger.

LeBron stiffed them with a meager $10 tip. This is what French nobles like to call your requisite Bourgeois Bitch-Slap. The waiter wouldn't even take it, tired of being shat on by guys like LeBron.

Still, at least the self-proclaimed King of Ohio didn't pull a Bernie Kosar — who gets sloshed at the bar and then has to remind the waiters of who he is before he stiffs them.

GOOD GOD!!! I FEEL GOOD, KNEW THAT I WOULD

Two thoughts:

1) Utah is adrift. I would never rule out a team, especially when they're headed to their home court, but I heard an interview with Millsap on local SLC TV this morning regarding if the Jazz could win four of the next five. "We could ... Nothing is impossible." That may sound like a rallying cry -- albeit a weak one -- but everything in his body language and tone said, "We're toast," and he may have said the words, but you could tell he didn't believe them.

2) About Kobe's airballs a decade ago: Some people made him out to be a gunner and a loose cannon because of them, but the plain fact was, there was no one else on the team to take those shots. And the coach confirmed it by saying, "Kobe was the only one who would shoot" or words to that effect. Hey, I loved Eddie Jones, but he was never going to be called Mr. Clutch. The thought of taking a shot with the game on the line would make his eyes glaze over. And Van Exel had already given up, letting everyone else shoot as if to make a point.

So Kobe was left to dangle in the wind. He's missed precious few since then. And when he has, somebody like Robert Horry was standing around to clean up.

Mamba,

Great job on roll call. Rip their hearts out tonight and finish them off on Sunday. Go, Lakers.

Tom

Magic Man"Me, is your first name Bite? Cause that's what you can do"

CLASSIC! LOL!

Charles,

What is the inside influence of Eric Pincus of Hoopsworld has, that AK/BK do not have? Perhaps, a little payola for the messengers, secretaries and nurses, we can obtain the first hand news.

This is the game where we need Trevor badly that is an away game and in Utah who are stingy in giving out W to any team, Lakers got to dig for it. If the 4th Q performance of Deron is aligned with the first half production of Milsap, then this will be a close game. Lakers should take game 3. This is like a race in climbing Mt. Everest, don't give them any edge to revved up their fighting spirit that they can pass the Lakers, no matter how stiff the climb, Lakers got to be ahead at all times. The harder the struggle, the greater will be the triumph.

Last night on TNT, the broadcasters were anticipating the first loss of the Lakers tonight. Unfortunately, they were well informed and not reading the posts of the Great Mind, (the equivalent of Chad Ford/Mark Heisler combined into one) in the Lakers Blog. Prediction on the Playoffs - The future has been determined 16 - 0 Sweep, Laker has to go with the process of playing games for the media to record. Read this blog, it's all over folks, relax and sit comfortably because God is a Laker fan. Let's just discuss salary contracts, disputes for next season. Lmao!

Jesterguru - Happy Birthday!
Frank -- I'm guessing you're from Philly. That's where I grew up.

Now, on to the GAME! I'm surprised so little has been written about the need for great Defense tonight. Spending most of 48 minutes trading baskets on Utah's home court won't get the job done IMHO. I'm still concerned about Gasol and the way he was getting "owned" for much of Game 2. I also hope D-Fish has been spending a lot of time giving Farmar pointers on D, as well. The Lakers have already acknowledged the need to get off to a good start, and that's a good thing. At the end of the day, the Lakers are the better team. Demonstrating it convincingly tonight will put the dagger in Utah's heart, and they'll be left bleeding alongside the NBA highway next to all the other pretenders. Go Lakers!

HEY LEAVE LEBRON ALONE, HE'S GOT FAMILY TO FEED.!!!
LMAO.

Tom

Chick was the MJ, Kobe, Bird, Magic - take your pick of announcers - now we are stuck with Joel Myers - the Smush Parker of broadcasters! Life just isn't fair sometimes!!!!!

We miss you Chick!

Eagleboy

Hey Mamba24, we are not choosy on those T Shirts....

They sell at Los Angeles Streets 5 for 10 blank colored shirts, blog can buy that in bulk and put it on a silk screen & print the pictures of AK/BK. It hits 3 birds with one stone, we got the shirt, blog promotion and the message that we all belonged only to one mold, the original whack jobs were really AK/BK. lol!

First of all, stop wasting possible positive space on this blog stressing over not having Bynum or Ariza. The Lakers have enough talent, and more importantly team chemistry, to win this thing with the personnel they have active right now.

The trade for Ariza was a good one whether he plays in the playoffs this year or not. Getting rid of a 6'10" guy who does not defend or rebound really needed to be done. If he missed his first shot, there was absolutely nothing he could possibly contribute to a game. If for no other reason getting rid of Brian What's His Name, who couldn't make Orlando's active roster, made the trade a good one. While Mo Evans was a good athlete, he was stopping the MACHINE from getting playing time, and that's worked out pretty well for the Lakes, also. The trade was a good one becase of what it subtracted from the team, even if Ariza's potential is never realized.

Last, it really does not matter who starts the game (Sasha, Rad-Man, Luke, etc.). Phil has a knack of determining who should finish the game, based on what happened throughout. As long as you have the right players on the floor to finish the game, the rest is just setting the table.

Mamba24,

That's such a good poem on the roll call, amazing!!

psychedlakergirl-

As soon as the they tip-off, "I'm going to Lakerland! Bye!'

Thanks, it's the best way to quickly explain to someone that I can't be bothered, and I apologize if I cannot hear what you are saying, because I am not here, I am at the game, even if you physically see my body here, I am not here.

Personally, I'm uncomfortable handing the keys to the kingdom to an unproven, young center.

Something interesting from today's chat:

Danny Tulare, CA: If the Lakers were to win or even make the NBA finals without Andrew Bynum. Would it make sense to trade him for say a Shawn Marion. I feel Lamar is better suited to play the four spot and with Andrew back; Lamar would creat spacing issues because he is not an outside shooter. Andrew is still a few years from realizing his full potential and getting Marion in his prime would make a scary line up for opponets: PG Fisher SG-Bryant SF-Marion PF-Odom C- Gasol

J.A. Adande: (3:55 PM ET ) That would be a good move because Marion would help the defense and he showed in Phoenix he could be effective surviving on the scraps leftover from the other players and not having his number called. And in the triangle offense he'd get more touches.

========================

If his knee issues disappear completely, I'm all for waiting for Bynum to ascend to elite status.

Meh. Thorpe is silly. Lakers win.

I understand that Mitch and/or PJ got TA because of his defensive skills at the 3 position, and I also understand that Vlad is a bust there defensively. And I really like TA's gamer. All that is a given. But it doesn't change the fact that the Mitch and the team docs should have checked him out thoroughly just like Phoenix did with Shaq before finalizing the deal. Especially since TA had a medical history. Now, do you have a problem with that?

Thorpe's very thorough in his analysis, but it's basically a crap shoot. Any of these teams could beat anybody.

I'm just hoping Gasol comes out strong.

I think the Jazz will revert to their bruising style of play from Game 1. They tried to back off in Game 2 and we still lived at the line.

The Lakers need to be aggressive from the outset and get these guys into foul trouble and keep the crowd from getting into it.

I want to see defeat in their eyes like we saw in Denver's.

Mel,

Those sports columnists are tempting the Lakers to lose the distinct advantage by trading the B52 wide span of wings with the Smart car, Marion is a smart player but he's a salary cap disaster, if Jerry Buss gets Marion, with Kob, LO and Pau, then JB will be seen begging for more money along Figueroa. Potentially, those 4 guys can reach to 70M, that's almost luxury tax threshold.

Tonight, I heard David Archuleta will sing the National Anthem, the kid is from Utah. Brooks and Mercado of American Idol are also watching if they can overthrow the favorite. If he sides with Jazz, he's no longer the favorite because Paula is an avid Laker fan.

Will the Utah fans boo D'Fish? Were they booing him last time because he left the Jazz or because he just settled with only one wife? Why boo Fisher, he's not Kwame?

Iis it 6 P.M. yet? What an exciting Friday!
Streak will continue tonight folks.

Game day in Lakerville!!!!

Mamba24.....

Thanks for the real, authentic ROLL CALL!! Nobody does it better!!

Jesterguru...Many happy returns! The Show will celebrate your b'day with a victory tonight!

Eagleboy,

You are absolutely right. We are enjoying the fruits of the playoffs but it is really incomplete, we missed the voice of the Lakers. I reckoned the days when we turned off the TV audio and go with play-by-play radio feed of Chick, sometimes Chick was way ahead of the video and we knew Shaq made the free throw while they showed on TV wiping his forehead. Joel Myers and Stu are no longer broadcasting in the second round, I thought they were gone even during the season. Their broadcasts make us all sleep and for the first time I put them in mute whenever they interview a celebrity when the game is on play. That's a no-no for Chickie baby, Laker games are always the priorities, not even a short commercial could over rule Chick. The one on the radio, Dedes, his voice appears like he's always crying. whoaa! Well, I think Jeanie Buss would look into this in the off-season. I'm sure there are plenty of Los Angelinos who could put up a better broadcast, someone who is young, energetic and an avid Laker fan who is a walking Lakerpedia or even former Lakers. Joel and Stu should just apply for their social security checks. lol!

Edwin,

I've watched a little this year (the last 10 minutes of each show) and I was dismayed to find out that the girl I liked (the one with the blond hair and could play the piano) went home.

David Archulleta and the Castro boy are weak singers. I'm so glad Castro went home. It was like looking at Scarlett Johansen with a wig.

None of the final 3 have star power. I guess the guy with the spiky hair is the best left.

Im still pissed I have a meeting til 730 tonight! ARRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you can put me down on the Birthday band wagon as - dined with Kobe yesterday at Maestros on Newport Coast to give him some pointers offensivly!

it's cute to see all the bandwagoners in love with Fish. I remember right before he left the lakers how these same boards were filled with hatred towards him over his crappy shooting, etc. And now look.. not only is he loved again but loved with a self righteousness (e.g., how dare you boo fish!) befitting the world class hypocrites that you are.

Tom,

"Another year older. Another year of rain. Wait, there it is. Lakers sunshine for your birthday. You are going to enjoy all the Bynum-Oden matchups."

Thanks, brother. And the funny thing is, for the first time all week in PDX, the sun IS shining. Blog-God-Sync-Think?

And man, I am just about salivating thinking of playoff matchups with the Blazers the next few years. One of these days real soon I am going to walk out of that arena loving a Lakers series win -- and that'll make up for all the regular season losses. Oh yeah.

I challenge you to do a little research on J.A. Adande or most of these sportswriters.......and what you will find is an 8th grader who was cut from the badminton team and who lost their fantasy girlfriend to the Varsity quarterback

Trade Bynum for Marion........Absurd!!

Im hoping for the win today. Utah is tough at home..but who isn't (Atlanta anyone?) Its all about execution..and running the triangle consistantly. ATTACK! ATTACK! ATTACK! Don't settle for to many jumpers! LO has been good about not shooting but going to the rim. If for some reason we can't pull it out tonight..please..please..please..don't start up the typical trade machine b.s. of (We should trade x player for y player) after a loss. I don't mind a loss..as long as we come back harder and stronger.

BTW, I loved Bill Dwyer's column today. I thought it was quite poetic -- and subtly snarky in places, sure -- but I even wrote him and give him props. I told him it's nice to see a writer at the Times who still understands and appreciates all the buzz about Kobe and the Lakers. Without drama and idolization it wouldn't be Hollywood.

with all due respect to the blog veteranos,

whats up with all the polygamist jokes? Some of you need to be educated. As far as I know most of SLC is not even Mormon. The outer cities of Utah are the cities that have the higher Mormon population. Another thing is that I doubt that the FUNDAMENTALIST Mormons which do practice polygamy wouldnt even go to a Jazz game. why don't you keep this blog basketball related only.

btw: again i say this with all due respect. i've been reading for about 2 years now.

Imagine the excitement from Chick with the Development of the bench?

What his commentary would've been with the beginning of the season leading up to now?

*sigh* Miss you Chick!

TWoody,

Feign sickness at around 4:45pm. It also helps if you have some family member to call in and say there is a family emergency!!

Hope this helps!

I havn't been able to keep with the blog much of late, so forgive me if this post is similar to someone else's or redundant in its content.

I believe in serendipity and fate. The unfortunate circumstance of Tatum Fisher's eye disease had the beneficial consequence of allowing her father to return to his professional basketball roots in Los Angeles. The news of her continuing recovery make this a feel good story of epic proportions to me.

As I watched these 2 Western Conference heavyweights square off in the first two games of theis series, the thought of how fortunate the Lakers are to have Derek Fisher on their side has occured to me many times.

Imagine if you will, this series if DFish was still a member of the Jazz. Instead of the Lakers benefitting because of his intimate knowledge of the Utah offense, The Jazz would reap the rewards of his experience with the Laker's triangle offense. His toughness and defensive tenacity would be being used against Kobe, Sasha and JFarm instead of what we see now: him slowing down Deron Williams.

Fish's professionalism, maturity and big game cojones are a major swing factor in this series. He has allowed Kobe to blossom into an even better player. The on court synergy and basketball brotherhood that Kobe and Fish share is a joy to watch. I'm glad that the Lakers have Derek Fisher on their side once again. He never should have been allowed to leave.

Punks must pay.

GO Lakers!

Edwin,

I didnt realize that the K Bros were also on American Idol blog duty as well. They never cease to amaze me with their talents!!!

: )

Jesterguru,

Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoyed it.

And Happy Birthday buddy!

Bynum for Marion is shockingly stupid. First, Marion is a known locker room cancer when he doesn't get to be "the man." Does anyone really think that we'll run the offense through him above Kobe and Gasol? Does anyone remember how well he creates his own offense?

If he kept his mouth shut and played like he did last season, he'd be great...but, were that the case...It's still ludicrous. Are we forgetting how huge and long and...well, GOOD Bynum is? Hello? We want to trade him because he'll cause spacing issue for Lamar? Um, no. Trade Lamar and keep the franchise center (That said, I genuinely hope that Lamar retires a Laker with multiple rings, all-star appearances, etc.).

Bynum with Gasol is a crushingly dominant frontcourt. Let Phil and Tex deal with spacing issues and maximizing talent.

Anyway,
GO LAKERS!

How did Josh T. manage to find a working computer, much less string together an understandable sentence, whilst living among the backwood sticks of our glorious libertarian country?

Exercise your liberty my man. But, by god do you sound like an idiot. Please stay out of L.A. We embrace diversity here.

broxlakerfan,

As you can see, God is a Laker Fan. It was Devine Providence that steered D-Fish to the Jazz, and then to bring him back to the Lakers for this series!

Hallelujah!!!

I know I must be obsessed, because I just watched the last 3 minutes of regulation and all of overtime of the 2006 Playoffs Game 4 Lakers vs Suns, when Kobe made the game winning jumper.

I got chills watching that, thinking of how much Odom, Walton, Sasha, and Kobe have all gone through. It's weird to see Sasha with short hair. It's a different experience, kind of like watching the first Star Wars again, knowing what lays in store for characters in the future.

In retrospect, Kobe seems less himself back then, still trying to prove everyone wrong, still putting up that "front". He seems stronger today, more poised, and more sure of his ultimate capabilities. I have more appreciation for Odom's contributions, he was key even back then. And I had forgotten that Devean and Smush made huge, huge threes in regulation to keep the Lakers in the game. Kwame was Kwame, though.

These guys really have been through some battles together. It would seem that this series can help them even today, to remind them that they can be up 3-1 and still lose it all.

But that moment when Kobe hits that last shot over Diaw and Bell is pure ecstasy. I love watching the reactions of different fans, how you see some of them start to stand in anticipation of the shot, and their pure joy when it goes in. Phil's reaction is priceless. He leans forward in his high chair as the shot is released, and when it goes in, he stays seated, but leans wayyy back, head tilted upward, and folds his arms. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like he was heaving a gargantuan sigh of relief.
