Good news on Ariza

May 13, 2008 | 12:59 pm

AK will have more from practice later, but he just texted me with the news that Trevor Ariza has indeed been cleared to practice without restriction.  He'd been deemed ready by two independent doctors, who felt that his fractured foot had sufficiently healed.  More details later, I'm sure, but however it gets sliced and diced, the information is good for the Lakers.

That's a nice bit of news. It'd be oh so sweet to see someone stick with Korver around all those screens. And next round it'll be Peja or Manu.

Cleared to practice without restriction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could eat a whole wheel of cheese and p00p in the refrigerator after that news.

Next stop . . . Dunking on Carlos Boozer and Andre Kirilenko!

One word - SSSWWWWEEEEEEETTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good news.. but, hopefully it really matters and lakers make it to the next round.. he is not playing this week, is he?

Anyway, Ariza over Vlad any day!

If the Lakers beat Utah now, that will make Ariza the MVP of the team, right? Did he get any votes?

YES!!! YAHOO!!!!
PSYCHED!!!
LOVE THE NEWS! Thanks AK and BK. We need the interview if possible, please.

That is a great emotional boost even if he doesn't play - at the very least he can now suit up for the next few games.

Let's get Trevor game ready - even to play some D off the bench if in the very slimmest of chances it goes to G7.

GO LAKERS!

AK/BK: I have so many questions about this good news....it seems like its been almost a season since anything good came out of the injury camp.

Has he been at 100% on that super G machine?
What kind of drills has he been doing without contact?
Do I dare ask about expectations as to when he will game ready? Doubt that one gets answered.

GO LAKERS!

Seriously AK/BK: this is good stuff!

I actually prayed specifically for Trevor at church on Sunday. This news made today a great Laker Day!

THANKS!

GO LAKERS!

¡¡¡¡¡¡YAABBBAA DAABBBBBAAA DOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

OH WAIT A SEC.. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS A DESPERATION MOVE. THEY ARE MAKING THE 2nd,3rd,4th OPINIONS LOOK GOOD JUST TO GET HIM IN THE LINEUP.

MY BROTHER IS A ORTHOPAEDIC. ACCORDING TO HIM IF THE LINE IS STILL THERE THEN IT CAN EASILY BREAK AGAIN AND MIGHT NOT FIX NEXT TIME

BAD MOVE BY LAKERS!

THUMBS DOWN..

I WOULD RATHER WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON

God, You are a healer! THANK YOU for answering our prayers!

Yeah!!!!

Hey Simi Laker Girl

After a couple of wins by the refs in Utah, it is nice to get some good news and get some of our momentum back heading into WED. Thank you AK/BK for being on the spot and giving us the breaking (unbroken foot) news.

Note on the bottom of the article:

"One thing to note is that opinions from even the most highly respected doctors are subjective. If they prove to be incorrect, Ariza could have some serious long-term implications."

Welcome back Trevor.
Now stay away from Lamar's foot
LOL!!! Trevor Ariza over Vlad Rad anytime of the day.

Mamba from the east coast

I JUST DONT WANNA VISUALIZE MEHMET OR HARPRING STEPPING ON ARIZA WITH 10000 Pounds OF PRESSURE.

THE JAZZ TARGET NOW IS ARIZA'S FOOT

this is great news for some potential matchups out there. Ginobili, ray allen/paul pierce, tayshaun prince...

Charles,

My interpretation was that the Lakers may not adhere to the "cleared to practice" or at least clear him to play in a game. Pincus made it sound like the Lakers don't want to gamble on Ariza's health.

If I was in charge, I'd give Trevor the option. Then I'd have him go in for MRI at least every two weeks just to keep monitoring the "line"

But that's me. I obviously don't have a guy that I'm paying 2 million to play hoops.

What is an Orthopaedic?

One thing to note is that the subjective opinions of the most highly respected doctors are very good. They make it a practice of giving the best advice because that's their job, they take pride in it, and if they screw up, it comes back to haunt them.

And in response to the news...

Oh, hell yeah!

I would exercise caution here. But if he must go. Bind his foot in a mile of tape and let him loose.

Did your brother say anything about Kobe? I'm assuming he's not practicing, but any good news would be appreciated.

"One thing to note is that opinions from even the most highly respected doctors are subjective. If they prove to be incorrect, Ariza could have some serious long-term implications."

Why see a doctor then?

Charles - every day they step on the court those injury implications are there. I agree with you that's a risk factor especially for Trevor since he seemed to have pre-trade feet problems.

But can we stay in the moment and have a little excitement and good news?

GO LAKERS!

This news is fantastic....If and when he returns it will allow him to guard a couple of positions...The good thing about Ariza is that he can guard guys like Deron Williams or the guy from punked....That seems to be the problem with Sasha he cant stop Korver....
Im not sure if anyone else noticed this but in the 3rd Harpring scored a bucket and as he turned to run back down the court Fisher was at the top of the Key,as he ran towards Fisher he gave him a very nice nudge and stare down...Didnt like that at all......

With Kobe and the bad back 3 players need to step up for the next game...Vlad,Farmar and Ronnie....If he plays..
It seems that since Phill Jackson made those glowing comments about Farmar after that 24 point game it has affected him......We really need him to keep up the good work Fisher does before he gets subbed..STAY STRONG JORDAN...

Vlad...Played well in patches against Mello but his scoring touch has been missing since the end of the regular season......CONFIDENCE.........PHILL ....CONFIDENCE......I saw that game for the Clippers a couple of seasons ago...

Ronnie....What happened to the shot blocking Ronnie with the nice jump shot and strong finishing around the rim.........Back to Basics Ronnie......COME ON........

Thank the LORD!

F the Celtics

Great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wohoo!

Hopefully he is fully healed, We need him but we dont need him to get hurt because it isnt fully healed.

Hows it going Charles?

couldnt come at a better time. we need ariza as soon as hes cleared to play.

PsychedLakerGirl

"But can we stay in the moment and have a little excitement and good news?"

Ofcourse we can. I've had the same injury except on my 5th metatarsal. Sure I did not receive Professional Nba doctoral care but from my experience, that takes up to 6 months to take heavy impact. Unfortunately you interpreted my post for not being "Psyched." Perhaps the "Yeah" post before hand didn't mean much.

I am just a little cautious with news considering this team has been injury laden the last few years.

Best,

Tim-4-Show,

Thanks for the reply!

again, if Ariza is risking major injury by playing vs sitting out the rest of the season and coming back next year at full strength, I would have to question playing him. What we don't know is the realistic percentages involved here. If the risk runs as high as 20% of further injury by playing then he should not play but if the risk is something like 5%... well, let's get his butt on the court!!!

Also, I'm surprised at the lack of comments concerning D'Antoni going to NY. This is a landscape changing type move. Say what you will about D'Antoni but he's smart, he has a few young players to work with, they have a high draft pick coming up (rumor is he's crazy about Derek Rose) and may trade to get the #1 or #2 pick if they don't get it in the lotto. If NY isn't going to be a horrible team anymore, then first, there won't be as many easy victories available vs. NY, second, as they dump contracts and show improvement, they will be major competition for free agents so the whole scope of the East just changed. Also, trade partners, since most trades are made out of division then Western teams will be the ones most likely to deal with NY so again, the aftermath of those trades will possibly ripple through the Western conference.

David Stern just got his wish, the Lakers are back and... NY may just become relevant again...

PJ said Saturday that we could use Ariza in this series if he his cleared to play.

Rambis said on KLAC last week, Ariza was looking so good on workouts, he thought he would have no problem stepping in to play.

The article BK posted was from yesterday. BK indicated AK had more than that to talk about.

Is Ariza going full court with the team today? That's what I want to know.

Hows it going Charles?

Posted by: simi laker girl

How are you Simi? How's is 420 doing? I hope to see you guys soon when you host a Lakers viewing party. I actually met "PSLakerFan" during one of the Denver playoff games. Great time, cool Kat. Let me know when you guys plan one.

Holla.

Fairweather,

"Lakers forward Trevor Ariza was medically cleared to practice and did so for the first time since sustaining a broken bone in his right foot on Jan. 20" Times reported

PHO

Fatty hit the nail on the head. Did Ariza practice with the team full-tilt today? If not, when will he?

Benjamin,

Thanks for your reply. I am definitely hyped about the news! Don't get me wrong. In response to your reply:

I just hope with this case, it's not the same respected doctors of Mihm, Malone, and Shaq...

That's all man I meant with that note. Otherwise, Hyped with the news!

Regards,

I'm sorry I can't let this die, but I just watched the flagrant foul called on Turiaf and Price's supposed "block" on Walton about a thousand times. Both plays had about the same amount of contact.

I may be seeing this through my purple and gold glasses, but I cannot understand how Turiaf gets ejected on a flagrant 2 and Price makes the "play of the day" on "one of the best blocks of the playoffs". Watch that in slow mo and Price got so much body from Walton, he should have sent him flowers the next day!

And it drives me crazy how the media portrays the two plays. The only difference is how out-of-control Price was on the flagrant foul. But even so, Walton was thrown into the post, yet not even a mention of a foul on the play from the announcers or ESPN or anybody.

I am still mad at Walton for not going stronger and faster to the hole, but c'mon people, that was a hard foul!

What is an Orthopaedic?
(Posted by: Tully Moxness | May 13, 2008 at 01:47 PM )

Tully Moxness,

If you must have a answer, here goes..

Orthopaedics or Orthopedics is the branch of medicine that deals with the prevention or correction of injuries or disorders of the skeletal system and associated muscles, joints, and ligaments.

"Orthopedic" doctors look at x-rays and examine the patient before a prognosis or diagnosis is offered; "Orthopaedic" doctors give out diagnosis and opinions without first hand knowledge of the patient's condition.

Hope this answer your query! (LOL)

Taoshum,

"again, if Ariza is risking major injury by playing vs sitting out the rest of the season and coming back next year at full strength, I would have to question playing him. What we don't know is the realistic percentages involved here. If the risk runs as high as 20% of further injury by playing then he should not play but if the risk is something like 5%... well, let's get his butt on the court!!!"

All I'm saying.

In regards to D Antoni, did you catch the article(s) on him pitching for Diaw and Barbosa?

Taos,

D'Antoni and the Knicks deserve one another. Make no mistake, this move was less than lateral for the Pornstache and nobody is making the Knicks relevant again anytime soon.

A quick review: They are a team built around a frontcourt tandem of Zach Randolph and Eddie Curry. You tell me how simultaneously playing two smaller, less effective versions of Shaq, both unwilling to play defense, will suddenly translate to working with the seven seconds or less philosophy.

Their only hope in NYC is that someone trades for Z-Bo. But as anyone who saw the turnaround in Portland resulting primarily from them shipping his ass out for nothing will tell you, YOU REALLY DON'T WANNA TRADE FOR Z-BO.

I just want to say that there's no way possible that David Stern actually controls the results of these games in any way beyond having a vote in the rules of the game (etc.) and a deservedly substantially influence on post hoc judgments. But as far as pre-determining the outcome of a game or series, you have to be completely unreasonable to accept the unfounded premises for that *desired* conclusion.

I might add that this goes for both teams. You'll notice that the Jazz blog is filled with conspiracy theories as well; they all have it rigged against the Jazz, while many here seem torn between which way it's rigged (usually depends on what point they're trying to make). But the reality is that it just isn't rigged to the extent many folks like to think.

I will continuing waving my Banners - my Laker Banner AND my Prayer Banner - to the Most High for continued healing for Trevor's foot. In fact, no better time than the present!

DEAR GOD, as we celebrate the news of Trevor Ariza's healing, give the Laker coaches, trainers, doctors and staff overall Your wisdom and insight on whether Trevor is truly ready to play. Yes, we are in a time of adversity and could use him to help us in this series and in the future, but we look towards the future instead of seeing things in the present. Trevor Ariza is one of the key components of the future of Laker Nation. We need not have him rushed back quickly if he is not ready.

If Trevor truly needs more healing time and doesn't play, then we accept that as Your perfect will. If he is truly healed and gets out there to represent for the Purple & Gold, we (HAPPILY!) accept that as Your will as well. Either way, Your will shall be done and we praise You for it.

Continued prayers and blessings for Kobe's back. Empower & strengthen him. Use this situation to cause our MVP to rely on You, for You are the MVP of all of our lives!

We thank You again for answered prayers and blessings on our Los Angeles Lakers...AMEN!

hell yes.

Regarding D'Antoni: It don't mean a thing if you ain't got no D...

NO D
NO D
NO D
NO D
NO D
NO D
NO D
NO D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charles - it's all good.

LAT reports he practiced today but PJ says a week or two before game ready. PJ said the same thing about Mihm, then put him in when Pau and Ronny got into trouble. You never know.

At least he can suit up. I will take that as one small step. No pun intended.

420 is good I guess, we dont talk much but when I go over for a laker game, have not been there in a while.

I dont know when he is planning a viewing party, maybe ill try and set one up for Fridays game at a bar or something....

I guess I would want to know how many people would be interested in going to a viewing party in Simi Valley before I set it up?

PSLaker is a cool kat, hopefully I get to meet him too! I owe alot to him for getting me to go see my first game.

Talk to you soon
