Game Thread - Lakers at Jazz

Good Jazz brings to mind names like "Coltrane," "Davis," and "Monk." Bad Jazz brings to mind names like "G," "G," and "G." Let's hope tonight's jazz is even weaker than the stuff played by Kenny.

Onanoman,
No worries. In all honesty, as much as I'd like to see Ariza get cleared (if nothing else because he's a good guy), we've kinda reached the point where it's borderline irrelevant.
From whatever point he's cleared, it's gonna take him a good week or so (at least) to get into game shape. Remember, the guy hasn't played in quite a while. Plus, Phil even said the odds of him getting back into the rotation are basically non-existant and that he'd just be used in spot duty for specific situations. Which is to be expected. In the overwhelming majority of cases, without an injury or a regular's game just falling off the map, coaches don't mess dramatically with their rotations in the playoffs.
Even Bynum, had he been able to get back on the floor, was basically a given to come off the bench.

YOU EVER NOTICE
Farmar's problem starts on the defensive end. Since he can't guard anyone, his confidence level goes way down, unfortunately he does not make up for the defieciency on the offensive end, therefore he has become a liability.

AK/BK,
Why aren't you at the game. Have you been banned because you're heathens?
Posted by: | May 09, 2008 at 08:24 PM
every call goes the lakers way, david stern does command. lose they still do, and star wars is still lame.
Posted by: yodasmommy | May 09, 2008 at 08:24 PM
Lamar and Pau have not done enough to help Kobe tonight. 10 Points from lamar just won't cut it in Utah. I don't even want to talk about Pau...
Suck it up and go get the win....
Is Kobe the only one that wants it?

re: Kobe being smartest player
Winning has a lot to do with being smart -- for great ones like Kobe & Jordan...and even medicore players like Walton...if they make smart choices and the team is winning
Posted by: Derek | May 09, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Two players I'm concerned about in terms of the future; Vlad Rad and Farmar. For 2 years, Vlad has been inconsistent and ineffective. And Farmar doesn't seem to have the build, mindset, defense, or offensive game to keep up with the pg's in the West.
In retrospect, I think the trade of Crit will haunt the Lakers.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:13 PM
I think this has a depressing ring to truth to it. But I think the silver lining to that is that Crit wasn't really irreplaceable. He wouldn't be playing serious minutes in the playoffs this year, and the Lakers can definitely address the pg spot better this summer. Maybe we could even find a team that wants Vlad...nah, I think vlad is ok if we have to have him. We just need to have the other guys play better. Then he can just shoot.

Kobe's split the double/pass off the backboard to himself? Safe to say, I cant' do that.

Mitch mention to season ticket holders that the players performance during the play-offs will be key to the team that is assembled in the future.
Vladimir and Jordan do not have a future with this team.
Period.

And who would be will to take them and their contracts?
Vlade---3 more years at 6 mil + each
perhaps someone would take on Farmar's contract
Farmar--- 3 more years at a 1 mil, 1.9 mil, and a qualifying 2.8 mil

Even Yoda not know that move Kobe pull off backboard. Yoda not worthy.
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 08:34 PM
Kobe's pass to himself off the backboard for a dunk
Instant Classic
Posted by: YOU EVER NOTICE | May 09, 2008 at 08:34 PM
That backboard pass to himself might have to be the top 5 in basketball plays in playoff history that is not a game winner.
KOBE U R UNREAL
get some stops now

Can you smell it???
Polishing the dagger now....

AK,
We kinda went on a limb and predicted our first playoff loss tonight.. but I'm getting happy feet.... I think I'm about to win 100 bucks !!!!

Ignoring the x's and o's for a minute...it is great to see the Lakers brimming with so much confidence. They clearly do not fear this (or probably any other) team, no matter whose building they're in. It starts with Kobe, of course, who had the memorable line about everybody acting like their 9-game road trip was murderer's row, and then his "statement" when the Lakers came through SLCity in March. Back to x's and o's, they are playing great D now, obviously. Need to keep closing quickly on those open jump shooters, which they've been doing great this quarter (with Vlad out...a coincidence?).

Admit it, you just posted this because you wanted someone to notice your pathetic arse. You aren't even worthy to be on this blog. And nobody mentioned star wars.

Complex Brotha,
"We kinda went on a limb and predicted our first playoff loss tonight.. but I'm getting happy feet.... I think I'm about to win 100 bucks !!!!"
Good a reason as any to see a Laker win.

What the hell just happened? We had it down to 3, now it's back to 9?
Even if we lose this game, we played our absolute worse and we still were in it.
I still like our chances.
Hopefully the arena will be dead on Sunday. What percentage of the fans are Mormons?
Posted by: mel | May 09, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Yoda understand. Sportscenter waiting in wings, refs need to hurry up game.
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Weak execution. Phil, c'mon. You can call a TO in the playoffs. Pau... screen and roll. Every time. Look for it (again, Phil, try espanol). Um, 24.. heat check? or something? F*k!
Posted by: marco | May 09, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Horrible interior defense has finally caught up with our Lakers, just pathetic. Take Kobe out and let the rest of the fellas figure it out, they have done nothing in the fourth quarter...
Posted by: 70'slakerfan | May 09, 2008 at 08:39 PM
Luke Walton is a better player than Vlad Rad. I never thought I'd say that.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:40 PM
That was a bad shot by Kobe. Well, the run had to end sometime.
Posted by: Lakergurl | May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Man... did Paul sleep with Joey Crawford's wife or something? He cannot get a call.
Oh, is Crawford not calling this game? Well, he has powers.

The Jazz can't play any better and the Lakers can
Posted by: YOU EVER NOTICE | May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Way to give up the ball and let someone else shoot Kobe. Good shot on the 3 Luke....
Posted by: 70'slakerfan | May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM
The Jazz just can't miss.
At least Walton has found his jump shot.
Posted by: Tsiry | May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM
Ok, sign me up for the WE WILL WIN ON SUNDAY bandwagon... I didnt want our streak to end.. but I expected it so its ok.. now I'll flip the loss into a double or nothing and have my own operation chaos lol Man this hurts... even though .. oh hell.. I'm feeling dark.. I'm about to watch No Country For Old Men lol

Posted by: CBuck | May 09, 2008 at 08:43 PM
I swear, I saw Ira Newble on the sideline just having a great time. He's thinking "If we go all the way, I get a ring!"
Well, we're close at the end.
