Game Thread - Lakers at Jazz

Good Jazz brings to mind names like "Coltrane," "Davis," and "Monk." Bad Jazz brings to mind names like "G," "G," and "G." Let's hope tonight's jazz is even weaker than the stuff played by Kenny.

Mamba and the Mambettes within striking distance.
Champions get it done in the 4th.

AK/BK,
Kind of off topic, but wasn't Ariza supposed to get re-evaluated today? Did I miss it, or have you guys not heard anything yet?
GO LAKERS!!! STEAL THIS ONE!!!!
Posted by: gokobego | May 09, 2008 at 08:01 PM
We're chipping them...little by little...
Now that we've baited them, they'll try to double our MVP but expect them to get burn as Kobe will hit the right Laker...
We will prevail...
Go Lakers!

Lakers Nation,
don't take me wrong, I think Pau is a good player but he has two flaws: he does not defend and he is not a physical presence in the paint. It's in this sort of games that we miss Drew so much.
I think we are going to drop this, we can't get closer than 5 or 6. We need to win game 4, don't really wanna go back to L.A. with the series tied at 2.
GO LAKERS!

Very evil half drunken grin... this might turn out very good after all.. you can tell the crowd is ready to erupt, but arent sure ??? lol you can see Fish and Kobe whispering on the bench about stuff.. looks like we might happily be eating crow AK... Last Qtr.. lets go
LAKERS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: complex brotha | May 09, 2008 at 08:03 PM
These refs must have WWE's Vince Mcmahon as their freakin' mentor...these calls/non-calls are BS....The Lakers playing without intensity and killer instinct doesn't help neither.
Posted by: Rhon Salmon | May 09, 2008 at 08:03 PM
It is such a privilege to watch Kobe laying his heart on the court, every possession attacking, determination. This guy is unreal from a players stand point I have never played against anybody with such resilience I wish he keeps playing till he is 50.

ronny
LO
kobe
luke
fish
this five should lead us back... we can get away with grand larceny tonight if we just play one more good quarter
Posted by: CBuck | May 09, 2008 at 08:03 PM
It's like Vlad and Farmar are in a competition to see who can hurt the team more.
Vlad's winning since he gets more minutes.
Posted by: Xodus | May 09, 2008 at 08:03 PM
GoKobeGo,
We actually put something in the earlier thread, but Ariza's cat scan revealed that the bone still isn't healed enough. He'll get another look in another 2 weeks, but in the meantime, he's out for this series. Bummer.

Here we go. Hope Vujacic and the rest can step up now as Kobe gets his early 4th-Q break. But with nobody playing great, and the Jazz shooting over 50 percent and playing some smart D, this looks pretty good for Lakerland...only down 7 and lots of time?
Posted by: onanoman | May 09, 2008 at 08:04 PM
The Jazz have to be scared to death, they have played to best they can and the lakers are still right there. Kobe has played a great balanced game to this point but I look for him to keep getting the ball in the post and take over. The rest of the fellas have to be ready to knock down shots. As for Pau, I don't know how he will fit in this quarter, he hasn't done anything but let Boozer root him out of the post and bully him......
Lakers will come back...

2 big hole for Mitch to address in the summer: Farmar and Radman.
Posted by: LakerinBC | May 09, 2008 at 08:05 PM
Compton,
I'm having problems with your point. All year I agreed with you. Luke had too much playing time and that was costing Vlad in terms of Vlad getting into a rhythm. But Vlad is starting now, and has been for some time. Yet, Vlad hasn't really had very many dominant games from the 3.
I'm torn, because I'm a firm believer that every championship caliber team needs a 3 point specialist. Vlad is supposed to be just that for us, but Sasha and Fish have done better from deep. Do we get rid of Vlad or hope he breaks out of it?
My question to you is this; what is Vlad's role on this team? He doesn't post, he's not a good passer, he's not a true defensive stopper. He's not a slasher. He's not a banger. So, what is his role?
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:06 PM
we should have some more meat on the court when deron is in there....
Posted by: LakerGurl | May 09, 2008 at 08:06 PM
What's wrong with Gasol??!!! He is terrible today, at least has been for the three quarters. F***. We need to play better D. Let's go!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: lakersfan the "wolf" | May 09, 2008 at 08:06 PM
Man, Fammar sucks right now.
Posted by: Xodus | May 09, 2008 at 08:06 PM
I freakin hate this Jordan Farmar.
Where's the good one?
Posted by: Faith | May 09, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Farmar is sooooo weak...
GET YOUR AZZ OUT THE GAME!!!
golly...
WEAK!
Posted by: Korey | May 09, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Pau does nothing but sets screens... Is he scared to go inside?
Posted by: tim | May 09, 2008 at 08:07 PM
Dude, was Farmar going for a "personal distance high" with that three? That's not the shot I'd choose to "get it going."

farmar need to go to the d-league again
Posted by: VINNY | May 09, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Farmar is playing so nervous
Posted by: Fairweather Fatty | May 09, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Harpring leads with face, learns not good way to play defense. Will we see his version of Raja clothesline next?
How many kick balls missed by refs in this game? Yoda lose count.
Posted by: Master Yoda | May 09, 2008 at 08:11 PM
Does anyone stil thinks we have a great bench? Besides Luke and Turiaf no one playing and worth of all Farmar...

Farmar might be "HIGH" but thats ok with me.
Posted by: lakerbum | May 09, 2008 at 08:11 PM
Phil leaves Vujacic in the game when WAlton is one the Lakers who is playing up to the physicality of the JAzz. Sasha isn't shutting down Korver anyways so might as well leave Luke in. Turiaf. This is our only center who plays though in the paint. Gasol belongs in Europe where everyone plays finesse.
Posted by: Tom | May 09, 2008 at 08:12 PM
On Turiaf's Block on Williams that was called a foul.....
the replay clearly shows a clean block but stupid and blind Hubie Brown says otherwise. Can't anyone call em as it is?
Posted by: YOU EVER NOTICE | May 09, 2008 at 08:12 PM
Farmar choke today... and has been choke the whole series .. wake up boy
Posted by: farmteam | May 09, 2008 at 08:12 PM
Two players I'm concerned about in terms of the future; Vlad Rad and Farmar. For 2 years, Vlad has been inconsistent and ineffective. And Farmar doesn't seem to have the build, mindset, defense, or offensive game to keep up with the pg's in the West.
In retrospect, I think the trade of Crit will haunt the Lakers.

All I can say about Famar is...we traded the wrong guy. I'm sorry, I would've kept Javaris, a way bigger steal than Famar's no defense-weak-playing a** is.
Posted by: Rhon Salmon | May 09, 2008 at 08:13 PM
I do not recognize these guys at all. Are we in Bizarro World or something?
Posted by: justanothermambafan | May 09, 2008 at 08:13 PM
Agreed. Farmar is brutal. I don't think PJ can keep playing all bench guys at once in the play-offs. The teams are too good and they don't play it that way.
Posted by: OhioVic | May 09, 2008 at 08:14 PM
What's up with Farmar? He doesn't pass the ball anymore.
Posted by: Tsiry | May 09, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Thanks, AK, on Ariza update. That's bad news, although they're looking pretty good without him, too. Alright, not tonight especially.
But here's where the Lakers get a test. Needs to start at the defensive end, but they really almost don't look like the same team in the Triangle tonight...simply not executing (starting with Pau's tough times, of course).
A couple years ago, while I love and loved Kobe, I never would have called him one of the league's smartest players...but now, could be. That 3-pt play a great example.
Posted by: onanoman | May 09, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Vlad versus Luke.
As bad as Luke can be, you pretty much know what you're going to get from him. He won't help you all the time, but he usually won't really hurt either.
With Vlad, you may get that occassional get shooting game, but they are very rare. Other than that, you don't really get anything from Vlad.
Also, if you study the injury history of Ariza, I'm not convinced he can stay healthy for an entire year. Assuming he will back Lamar when he gets healthy, we are going to have to get rid of a SF. Will that be Luke or Vlad?
My money is that Vlad gets his walking papers this summer.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:15 PM
yeah gasol!
HE MANED UP!
fantastic block
Posted by: CBuck | May 09, 2008 at 08:17 PM
The Lakers will lose this game, but I don't mind that. It's not good to have a streak in the playoffs; too much pressure to keep it going. This is a good game for the Lakers to lose. They'll come back and beat them Sunday. They'll win it all in 5 games.
Posted by: troy | May 09, 2008 at 08:17 PM
Mitch mention to season ticket holders that the players performance during the play-offs will be key to the team that is assembled in the future.
Vladimir and Jordan do not have a future with this team.
Period.

Jazz are trying the McGrady strategy on Kobe - pound him all game long so he would be tired in the 4th.
Posted by: LakerinBC | May 09, 2008 at 08:18 PM
I wonder if the Lakers sound like a freight train right about now. Fisher with the chance to make it a 5 point game.
Posted by: mel | May 09, 2008 at 08:18 PM
Kobe's doing a fine job breaking the Jazz' rythm. There's still time. I believe in the MVP!
Great defense by Gasol! YEAH!
Posted by: Tsiry | May 09, 2008 at 08:18 PM
Thanks, Luke. We enjoyed bonus for a whole 13 seconds.
